The files contained here are intended to provide the means to
actually carry out a PCECD dubbing project! There are no technical
hurdles to overcome. With the software and batch files provided
you'd simply be working with 16 KHz WAVE files. It's strictly a
matter of someone serious to manage a gang of voice actors and
to see the project through to completion!

The batch files provided have extra info on how they work - mainly,
you need to rip track 2 from a Popful Mail CD to begin using them.
If you used my TurboRip utility to rip an ISO/WAV/CUE image file
set then track 2 would be named something like:
"02 Magical Fantasy Adventure - Popful Mail (J).iso"
Just put everything in the same working folder to begin!

Important Notes/Protips:
-Some ADPCM clips are actually recorded with background music.
In those cases you'll have to mix them in post-editing.
Most clips have no BGM so the voice actor just needs to do
his/her recording in a quiet room with a good microphone.
-Your dub wave file should be exactly the same size as the original.
-NEC ADPCM playback is very picky! If the new recording clips
once the overflow won't reset until a system reboot and you'll
hear nothing but loud cracks, pops, scratches, etc.! The preamp
volume must be low & features like low-bass filtering in Audacity
can help prevent this problem. The point is you must test EVERY
new English recording in-game and make sure it plays back cleanly!
More research is needed on how to best correct/catch this problem!
-FYI, you can directly play PC Engine VOX/ADPCM files without
first converting to wave format using these Windows GUI apps:

  https://www.ocenaudio.com/ (100% freeware)
  https://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/ (mostly free, but shareware)

Just be sure to select the correct sample rate, usually 16000!

Quick Usage Guide:

** Edit PMAIL_GET_VOX_FROM_ISO.bat and PMAIL_PUT_VOX_INTO_ISO.bat once to point
to the Popful Mail ISO data track wherever it's located. A full path can be used.
They are currently automatic, but if you have trouble you must manually edit.

To get/extract the proper Japanese clips:

1) Run PMAIL_GET_VOX_FROM_ISO.bat, that'll extract all raw ADPCM clips.
2) Run CONVERT_VOX_TO_WAVE.bat, that'll convert them to proper mono wave
files, they'll be the proper length and volume level.

For newly recorded English dubs/clips and insertion, just as easy:

1) Run CONVERT_WAVE_TO_VOX.bat on the new English wave clips.
2) Run PMAIL_PUT_VOX_INTO_ISO.bat to insert them into the ISO for testing!

There may be some issues to play with SOX and its clipping/dither features
to help with distortion stuff.

Do you own an original Popful Mail CD? You can rip directly to ISO/WAV/CUE!

1) Insert your Popful Mail PC Engine CD in your optical CD/DVD drive.
2) Double click TurboRip.exe.
3) Type /auto and hit Enter.
4) That's it. Ripping to ISO/WAV/CUE format will begin!
