I thought these were nicely done.  Props to the designer.

The original ones pop up from time to time, but they disappear pretty fast.  Good luck if you're looking for one of those.  They have the TG16 logo on one side, and a game logo on the other... Splatterhouse, Bloody Wolf, Devil's Crush, and Legendary Axe II I think were the only options.  Could only find pics of 2:

Wow!  Now that is a rare piece!  Would you mind providing more pictures of the box and manual/packing?  I've never seen a boxed one.....

Very cool indeed, and while you're doing fruit, you should throw in a Coryoon option.

NEC America's marketing is considered one of the major contributing factors to the poor success of the Turbo Grafx 16.

Lack of 3rd party support, Not understanding the American market of the time, and of course Nintendo's stranglehold on developers didn't help....

When NEC gave up and passed the torch to TTI, it was probably lack of funding that kept the advertising low and accelerated the other issues.  It was during that time that TTI came up with this, perhaps the worst Advertisement ever....  July 1992 issue of EGM (possibly others).  Not the most desirable comparison here.  If you know of other super bad (as in really really bad) turbo ads, post em here.

Quote from: Senshi on 09/22/2011, 01:27 PMWas dracula X announced or just not thought about?
It was considered to the point that it is mentioned (as a response to a letter) in the last issue of Duo World.  TTI certainly would have considered it - as a pipe dream maybe, but there is no way that it wouldn't have been at least talked about.

IMG

As well, add Street Fighter 2 since TTI did at least make an attempt to get licensing for the game.  That one certainly would have turned heads here in the US.

Dan, this is the first time that I have seen the screenshots of the CES demos.  It brings tears to my eyes.  So close, so close.

And don't forget the extra holes!

I've met some great people since getting back into Turbo stuff, and they all have great stories to tell.  The latest is no exception.

I recently met a guy who worked for NEC back during the Turbo days as a game tester.  He said it was a dream job - I bet!  Last night, I got an email from him asking me what the heck Bonkinator was.  I hadn't heard that term before, so I asked him what he meant.  He sent me some pics, so I immediately started digging.

I saw that the Jun/Jul 1992 issue of Turbo Play announced a new unnamed character.  By the Aug/Sep 1992 issue, Air Zonk had his name.

Turns out, this guy has a demo EPROM called Bonkinator.

IMG
IMG

Have any of you seen this version before?  I didn't have any luck searching for it.  Pretty awesome though.  I asked him for some more pics of the actual EPROM and more screen shots/info.

What other treasures have been uncovered?

NEC did make a wise choice on the name change.  At least they got something right.

Check out this thread:  https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=7148.15

Zonk, Bonk, 2 Bombermen, a TG16, and Adol are all on the tree... man, they are tedious to build.

The Bombermen and Doraemon are keychains.

Quote from: henrycsc on 11/30/2010, 10:43 PMAdol's pretty awesome!  I came Across these (somebody's probably already posted them somewhere):

This is pretty neat. Print it out, cut and fold.

If you read the post, you'll see that TG-CD was the inspiration for the Adol "Boxpunk", but the site offers many, many other characters from various games.

OK Guys,
Using Duo_R 's measurements, I made an AutoCAD drawing.

IMG

Some stuff I had to ballpark, so we may want to get all the red dimensions confirmed before anyone does any ordering off this drawing!  Also, because the spokes are even on large side / odd on small side, I didn't know if they actually lined up anywhere (I assumed they did).  It probably doesn't matter, but I wanted to point that out too, just in case.

And the 3D rendering:

/gear1.jpg

If anyone wants the CAD file or a .pdf of the dimensions, just PM me your email address.

Frank_fjs, have you actually used those with success?

The problem I have found with those type is that they are made for a single business card to fit snugly.  The hucards, if they fit at all, are very snug to the point of being difficult to remove.

If anyone has a particular brand that they know works well, it may be helpful to everyone.  The one I tried was a no go.

Quote from: Frank_fjs on 11/17/2010, 09:47 PMFor my loose HuCards, I was thinking a business card folder would be ideal.

Something along these lines:

I'm going to remove the "system card" for the PC II

I can't confirm that this system is compatible with a CD Rom, but the image on the box shows a system card in the unit.  I would think the PC Boy is a brother to this unit and that one is 220V - wouldn't that make it incompatible with the IFU-30?  Not to mention, this is probably PAL as well.

Isn't there a similar issue with trying to connect a PAL/220V TG16PAL to a US TGCD base?

Does anyone know if the electrical or broadcast issues would for sure eliminate this possibility?

I'm also trying to do some final cleanup.  I will be adding the LD-ROM2 logo since they are part of this family tree.  I used the text on this manual image for the NEC Laseractive logo - anyone know if I am way off on this one?

Ok, another piece of hardware, this time US Third Party...

Can anyone confirm the existance of a Beeshu Zoomer Wheel for the TG16?

Here's a pic of the NES one:

IMG

I was looking through the July 1990 issue Video Games & Computer Entertainment and an ad for "The Ultimate Game Club" lists a "Zoomer Wheel" as a TG16 accessory for $39.99 used and $49.99 new...

The TGCD system was listed as $389.99 new at that time and the Turbo Express wasn't yet available.

Rag, if you can get me the graphic of what you had in mind for Arthur, I can add it.

Give me a link to a high quality image and I can clean it up for inclusion.

I could also use another graphic from an RPG  - Maybe Legend of Xanadu?  I'm game for other suggestions.

The power console looks awesome, but doesn't appear to be an actual released item (like the Duo to PC interface).  There were really quite a few prototypes that I'm leaving off just to keep the list manageable.

I'm going to have a test poster printed to check the quality, and if everything looks good, I will take orders.

Quote from: rag-time4 on 08/19/2010, 11:49 PMJust a quick comment: I think that instead of bomberman, Arthur from Ghouls and Ghosts should be near the SuperGrafx, and Bomberman should be elsewhere.

Also, what about the power console add-on for the SuperGrafx

I would really like to have one of these, btw
Hoobs!  More Awesomeness!  Is the NEC also called the LaserActive?  I can't quite make out the logo, but it looks like it may say LaserDisc Rom2.  Also the LD-Rom2 logo on the Pac N1.

Isn't the LD-Rom2 Pac N1 different than this one?  I was curious if the 2 different pacs actually had the same model number N1 and the Pioneer US was different as the Pac N10.

Awesome choices...  You're so lucky getting a company funded shopping trip.... too bad you can't expense it.  LOL  $700 sushi dinner!

Quote from: JapanTokei on 07/19/2010, 08:31 AMHenry !  I'm playing catchup, here is one back at ya!!
I think I spent the best $700 USD ever today with my haul.  I ran straight from the Narita airport to the shop.  The Yen exchange rate sucks now, but for 60000 yen ($700 USD), I got the following below.
Same as Henry, I don't want to pinch pennies and wait forever, so I plunged today:

* BRAND NEW SEALed - Bazzaru  (yes yes yes.. he completes me !!)
* BRAND NEW SEALed - Dead of the Brain
* Go Go Birdie Chance - Mint complete w/registration card
* Don Doko Don!  (been wanting to play this)
* Gunhed Special Huey
* Devil Hunter Yokko (complete) - just wanted to try this one out so I grabbed it

The picture below shows my new sexies on my hotel bed, like I promised I would share with yo uall  =P~

These below cost total aggregate $900.... this means I am pretty much done with my chase.  Only left is Madou Monogatari ACD...

I am a happy man today

Quote from: henrycsc on 07/18/2010, 12:58 PMNo worries Tats, I will never have that many.... just a lot of a games have no interest to me since I can't read Japanese.  :)

Thanks Opeth, no, haven't updated the trade list yet.... but I do have a handful of new ones.  Man this is a lot of stuff to go through... on top of the retr0bright project too!  If I never see another dirty hucard sleeve, it will be too soon... LOL
