Today this very curious item got delivered that I won on Yahoo Auctions last month.

It is what appears to be an officially made PC Engine Arcade Board... as you can see from the pictures, it has Hudson chips (Hu6260, Hu6270 and Hu6280) along with some screen printed writing... NEC PWD-678 72406781.

At the front there is the HuCard slot and a slide power button, which makes me think this was maybe mounted in something... there is also an on-board controller port.

Then at the back the board has two connectors, one for Audio/Video and the other for power... there is also 3 adjustment pots in the middle of the board which maybe is for audio volume... I am not sure yet.

Now the writing on the board got me thinking as they looked familiar, so I looked at the other console main boards to compare...

White   -   PWD-623A 72406235
Core      -   PWD-814A 72408141
Core 2   -   Same as above
Shuttle   -   TBC
Super   -   PWD-820A 72408201
Duo      -   PWA-3285-A 72932851/5
Duo-R   -   PWA-3339-A 7233392
Duo-RX   -   PWA-3365-A 72933652

TG16   -   PWD-782A 72407822
TG-PAL   -   PWD-913A 72409131
T.Duo   -   PWA-3321-A 72933211

So looking again at what is on this board (PWD-678 72406781) it places its production between the original White and Core Grafx units.

Next job is to wire up a new connector and install in a cab and see what happens... I will keep you posted.

Has anybody ever seen a board like this before... let me know what you think.

Now I know that there are many PC Engine Arcade boards that are widely available on eBay and Yahoo Japan Auctions, and I had assumed that these were the handiwork of some Chinese factory knocking out more unlicensed crap. But I now know that is not correct, but before I explain anymore i'll give some background...

A few years ago, a few friends and I very sadly helped the owner of one of London's oldest Amusement arcades, the Goodge Street Casino, to clear out the last of the cabinets so it could finally close its doors to the public. As part of this closure, the owner's collection of cabinets, boards and artwork were also saved... and the guy in question was the owner of Electrocoin Automatics, John Stergides, who were the largest distributer of all Amusement Arcade cabinets and games in the UK and across Europe... similar to Romstar in the US.

Among the collection many rare and prototype boards were found, including amongst other things an unreleased Bubble Bobble 2 PCB...
http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=53192

And a wealth of Neo Geo MVS Prototypes that I currently have in my collection...
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?238655-MVS-Proto-carts-Part-II

Anyway, back to why I actually started this thread...

So within this collection was a fairly ordinary and common PC Engine Arcade Board, but it what the board was packaged with that was most interesting... it was another friend who got hold of it first so for the last couple of years I have been trying to get him to part with it and now I finally have...

IMG

So obviously we have all seen these boards, but this one was the first one I had ever seen boxed and marked Alpha Trading...

IMG

But this system also came included with an airmail letter which again was stamped by Alpha Trading...

IMG
IMG

The first letter dated February 17th 1989, is from NEC and addressed to Alpha Trading confirming that they have importer/distributer rights of all PC Engine systems in Korea...

IMG

And the other letter was the original order invoice placed by Electrocoin on April 6th 1989...

So I have been playing and collecting the PC Engine since the late 80s and have always been intrigued by the wealth of different hardware that is available for the system... which is why I created www.pc-engine.co.uk

But during this time I have never ever seen a Screen Magnifier for the PC Engine GT... but one has now turned up.

Now i'm trying to research this and google returns absolutely nothing... and I mean nothing, not even a picture.

So the question is, does anyone know anything about it... where does it come from, who made it etc..? Anything would be great to hear.

Cheers.

Quote from: guest on 12/31/2015, 09:42 PMOne question... on accessory support, i see a few entries for the Virtual Cushion. I always thought it was simply a bass shaker butt seat thing. Do you know if games like metamor jupiter and image fight 2 really do anything special for the virtual cushion?
I'm not aware that the games are any different, as you say all games will work as it just adds the bass, but I believe these games had a compatibility logo added as they were released at the same time... Image Fight II on the exactly the same day as the Virtual Cushion (18/12/1992) and Metamor Jupiter a month later (22/01/1993)

I'm going to get the text translated to know exactly what the logo says...

That's some cool stuff there...

I have that PC Twin Commander (but only loose unfortunately)... strange that they made it with two different controller styles.

IMG

And i've never seen that AEBS Twin Controller.. that is nice to see. I have the 2-player Multitap that looks similar but never seen it with pads connected.

Thanks for sharing...

Quote from: rcantor77 on 10/04/2015, 08:00 AMHas anyone seen this controller before...

IMG

Just picked it up... it has a built in multitap, a 4/8 switch and it is programmable. Although I don't have instructions atm so still trying to figure that bit out...
This is for pc-98.  You plug it into your computer's keyboard port and then plug your keyboard into the other side of the controller plug.  Then you can program the keys on the gamepad to any keyboard keys.  I really do want to pick one of those up for my PC-9821CE.
OK, well that would account for the slight interference that I get...

Has anyone got the pinout info for a PC-98 controller port so I can see if there are any differences..?

Damn, I have been looking for one of these for years... and you're right these are completely useless compared to the newer flash cards but they don't look as cool as the Griffin...

Today I received some nice 3D glasses that I have been on the hunt to add to the collection for many years...

Quote from: Flare65 on 04/11/2015, 06:47 PMI found these two joysticks on ebay two years ago.  Never seen them before or since then.  They are brand new, but the boxes on both show some shelf wear.  They say PC Engine on them and have the Japanese style controller plug, but the company address is based in NY.

Anyone seen these before?

IMG
IMG
IMG

IMG
Great looking sticks, thanks for sharing. :)

If you ever fancy selling then please let me know as I would love for my stick collection.
#19
And here is a better image of the Multitap they did...

IMG
#20
Sorry the picture is nto great so here is another, as it is actually grey not black...
IMG

Sodipeng made this who had the distribution rights in France for the Core Grafx, Super Grafx and GT that got released there, so this considered an officially licensed product. There is also a Multitap that they did that looks like the Turbo Tap.

IMG
#21
Thanks for the pics henrycsc, and that poster you did is great although its the items not on there that I really would love to see... the stuff that didn't really get sold in great volumes or no-one has really seen before.

I have been trying to track down some of the PC Engine hardware that was released in France, so far all I have manage to find is a boxed controller...

IMG
#22
Yeah maybe they are... and especially that they don't show the HuCard. But I thought the manual was the same as shown here..

http://sdicks.free.fr/Potins/Yokai/CarteOR.htm

And the black/gold card was just an additional inlay...

IMG

But if they have been sprayed to con people then they have done a pretty good job around the labels, unless they have been restuck on afterwards.
#23
Now I was fully aware of the promotional Gold HuCard release of Yokai Dochuki...

IMG
IMG

But on Yahoo Auctions atm, a Gold Chan and Chan has turned up and is commanding quite a tasty ¥128,434 price tag already... does anyone know of any others that exist..?

Its bloody horrible to use, but anyone else got one of these..?

Found it... :)

And for just in case that ebay link stops working...

Obviously I have spoken and thanked Sam personally for this but I thought it about time that I post up what he managed to sort out for me. Sam has been an amazing guy throughout this transaction and I cannot recommend dealing with him enough... thanks again mate. :)

So after many trips to the shop for me and a handful of crafty pics, I ended up purchasing all the Special HuCards (and a cheeky copy of Magical Chase) enabling Sam to buy himself a nice new toy. Between us we had some great help from Opethian as an intermediary and my best friend in Tokyo as an address to post to, so thanks to them too.

Then a few weeks back when my mate returned home for some family issues, he brought back with him all of the Engine goodness he has been looking after for me for a month or so...

IMG

Thanks again Sam.  :D

Definitions
noun: overpriced version (extremely), this version that gets nerd collectors uppity and extremely volatile against anyone in their vicinity and gives those who posses it an extreme case of over compensation and verbal flatulence.
Oh... and i'm not compeltely uppity and never get at all volatile to anyone, so not sure that definition is correct. I just like to Obey. :)

So did anyone on here win this, I tried to get it but I maxed out at 25,000¥...
http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u70185700

IMG

I knew it was rare, but I cannot believe it went all the way upto 59,000¥. Even if I had of won it, I would not be able to do anything with it as tracking down one of the software CDs would be nigh on impossible... and expensive.

Anyway, good luck to who ever did manage to get it... and hopefully they have some software and could perhaps post some more info on this as the only thing I could find was this...

Oh well that is interesting then... I must have seen that before as I have looked at pics of Adol's collection many times...

But the one on eBay doesn't look like the Adol's at all, it just looks like its faded a bit in the sun.

In the early nineties I used to buy all my PC Engine games from Dreamware (VideoGameImports.co.uk, Dream Machines or what ever you want to call them today) and spent many an hour sitting on the phone to Lee chatting about the latest PC Engine games and which ones I should buy and which ones we both enjoyed playing. My only regret of those chats was not taking Lee up when he offered me his personal Laseractive for £200... :x

Anyway, at some point during that time, as a regular customer I got put on the mailing list of a home made PC Engine Magazine named PCP. I recently dug it out from my loft and wondered if anyone on here knows anything about it...who it was that created it, how many issues there were etc. I think there might have only been one issue as I also have a letter from the editor stating that they were stopping the magazine.

Cheers.

Yeah I know it is the only technique to use and when you start trying it you realise how fekking good 16/sec actually is.. although people have done 180 since it was with two fingers.

For those who don't have a Shooting Watch to play, here is Hudson's Flash Watch online...

IMG

At the moment all I can muster is 85 with one finger and 105 with two... enjoy!

I want some of those sweat bands form the contest a few years ago...

IMG

Just looking at a Takahashi video he has got a strange technique...
I always used to use both thumbs and rock the unit between both palms... can;t remember how many I used to get know but I am going to have to get mine out and give it another go.

Is there a High Score thread anywhere yet...?

I have had the LT and Super CDROM2 since about '99... sadly they are both unboxed hence the need for the case.

I had been searching for the LT -> Super CDROM2 adapter for years and then stumbled across one on eBay UK about 7 years ago for.. somehow I snagged it for £50... bargain.
