12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Sorry for the long wait on this. My friend was finally able to drop the game off to me. We played it on his Express for while. I have to admit I really suck at these games. I have all three adventure island's for the nes and i'm not very good at them either. Graphics and sound are very good. Especially the animated opening sequence and the shadows that appear transparent.

Thank you again.

After having Thesteve recap and put a new screen into my Gt, and Duo-r adding a lithium battery mod and replacing the control contacts, I finally got the chance to finish off the "ultimate Turbo portable" thanks to Turbokon. Turbo addes a controller port to my GT, and more importantly a component video out board. I can now use my GT as a portable with a large screen and long battery life, or as full blown turbografx with near RGB quality anywhere I go without the need for bulky hardware.  The picture I have included is my GT hooked up to my father in laws 60" plasma TV. The colors are a tad off, but it turns out its the Tv's settings and i'm not allowed to screw with them LOL.  Otherwise, the pictures scales nice and looks clear.  Add a controller and you got gaming goodness. I want to thank Turbo for the mod, its well worth it :)

has anyone tried these out? I need a new device to use while traveling and these look pretty awesome.  I'm sure quality control is an issue though, considering the price point...
I own the device you have pictured above. First rule of thumb with devices like these, don't buy them for how they come stock. The JXD 7300b works like shit outta the box. After updating with third party firmware, and installing better emulators and games it works very well. The D-pad is a tad soft, but sound is very good, the screen is excellent, compatibility after custom firmware is very good, and the machine is extremely fast for what it is.

Maybe we can get a few other android lovers on board with this thread and workout some details on stuff like dosbox and emulators.

Quote from: thesteve on 02/06/2013, 10:57 AMthe sync from the video chip is 0.3V, making it not acceptable for most RGBS monitors.
it can be amped and works fine, but this chip can be in your cable.
Well of course.  Both the RGB and c sync signals coming from the chip should be amplified.  I thought this was a given for a standard RGB mod.  Sorry if it was unclear.  This is a proven amp circuit that I used:

pce_rgb.jpg

2SC1815 transistors are hard to find these days; an NTE85 will work the same.

Of course if you skip amping the c sync, you'll never never need a 1.2k resistor to bring it back down to 0.3Vpp, as it's already there.

Quote from: HercTNT on 02/06/2013, 02:16 AMwell what does work and what should work are not always the same thing. I have tapped my Duo for raw sync when using my rgb and it did not work. Building the sync stripper was not only dirt cheap but effective. You can throw all the technobabble at it you want, but in the end, this simple cheap circuit worked just fine.
Did you not amplify the c sync coming off the chip?  Whether you did or not, it probably wasn't the right level if it didn't work.  Or the monitor could have been really picky about the pulse width.  Both of these are set to a certain level with the LM1881, but it's possible you could gotten them to good values without it if you know what's going on.

Whatever the reason, there is an explanation that you would call "technobabble," that would be helpful to know instead of having to just go by trial and error.
agreed my problem stems from getting the most i can out of my systems for the least amount of money thesteve, dou-r, turbokon, and mike have been invaluable in achieving these goals. for the average use, the terms you guys throw out is technobabble no matter how affective it is. we just don't understand waht you saying. based on that, the simplest of solutions to fix the problem, become the best. mike has gone along way to help me solve problems on my own merit. otherwise. guys like thesteve, turbokon, and duo-r have filled the gap were i have failed.

I suffer from severe insomnia due to a brain tumor that was the size of a golf ball. The tumor was pushing against my cerebelum and my brain stem. Because of it i have severe insomnia, vertigo, nausea and a slew of other nifty problems that will never go away due to the damage that was done. For what its worth josh, Mike has not only been a fantastic friend, but he provides a service that no amount of money could ever buy. When your awake night after sleepless night its maddening. The medicine i take to help me sleep makes me paranoid, i see things moving in the dark, hear voices that are not there. Its all side effects i have to live with. Mike has spent countless hours talking with me, or helping me with late night projects when i otherwise would suffer from a total breakdown. Now, i don't need anyone's pity, just support. Mike has provided that in spades by often staying up far later than he normally would for my entertianment, and getting work done in the process. If thats not the mark of a good person, i don't know what is. Whatever your beef with him is, its unfortunate, people who really know him know that he's not how you and a few others try to make him out to be. Just my two cents.

P.S. i have tried very hard to proof read this and any of my other posts as best as possible. due to my condition i often think one thing, but type another. my spelling is horrible, and i sometimes lose focus.

I went through a phase where I loved those gold letter stickers after buying a pack to restore the address labeling in the front door. Then I just had to find other uses for them... There's also some GameFan magazine influence at work there where Japanese naming in my mind had become sooo much cooler than any system title that the US side had chosen... Thus, "PC Engine" was cool, TurboGrafx-16 or "Turbo Duo" not so much... ;)
I went through this black on gold trim faze. I painted alot of consoles, toys, etc, with black on gold trim. loved it.

Quote from: Todd Gill on 10/08/2012, 06:27 PMThought I would share a recent RGB mod to my TG16.

RGB modded it with stereo audio and composite video as sync. Used a mini 8 pin din and installed it where the useless RF output was at keeping a stock external appearance. Borrowed this idea from MMmonkey.
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/rgb.htm

The RGB amp design came from GameSX. It's the regular SC1815 transistor based amp.
http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/duorgb.php

TG-16RGBMod-2.webp

This was my first time building an RGB amp and actually working inside a TG16. Pretty happy with the results. Other than some very minor jailbars when there is a light, full screen background, the RGB is very nice. Hooked up to my 20 inch Sony PVM. Next time I build one of these amps, I will make it smaller and probably lay some parts down (like the 220uF caps) so that it has a lower profile.
My rgb modded duo-r also has light jailbars. I don't think its possible to get rid of them. otherwise the picture is great.

Quote from: Drakon on 10/04/2012, 07:39 AMSick duo.  You using one of these?

IMG
The one i have is very similar to that. My duo is rgb modded, and originally had an rgb to scart cable. then had to buy another cable that output the scart to the vga in on the upscaler. That cable was rgb boosted, but the system was also. This caused some problems with the output. Then the system just crapped the bed altogether. Steve went through it and found bad wiring buy the guy that sold it (doujidance). Mike showed me how to get rid of the cable mess and rewire a straight shot rgb cable from the system to the rgb pins on the upscaler. Between Steve's fixes and Mikes rgb cable help the machine sounds and looks great. Before, with the upscaler the picture output had a very faint amount of fuzz in it. Now its crystal clear. I don't know why people don't like the output of this upscaler as its dirty cheap and in my opinion looks fantastic.

Sorry steve, I have real bad memory. This is my Majesco gamegear that steve recapped for me. I have plexi polish coming to take the scratches out of the screen. Before the recap it worked and looked terrible. Bad viewing angles, would not power right up. after the recap its looks fantastic. The majesco screen is a tad better than a standard gamegear screen. still waiting on the parts to do the new backlight. when i get them i will post another pic, if i forget, steve will remind me

just after i posted this, my plastic polish showed up. It came out pretty good, but there is a ton of dust behind the screen. i won't post another pic until i get an air duster and finish the backlight mod. should look great then.

07/31/2012, 01:11 AM
I thought i would share with you guys the model boat i have been making for my mother. It's small and may not look like munch, but its all hand made. The hull of the boat started out as half a pecan shell. the metal railings are the legs of a resistor. it has an actually wood deck made of toothpicks laid side by side. The cabin alone is made from 20 individual pieces of wood. Once again sorry for the camera, its crappy. I retook this picture 7 times in different places and the camera just can't handle up close shots. As you can see the sails are not done yet. I have yet to figure out what i'm gonna make them out of.

07/22/2012, 10:37 PM
Well I decided to just use my crap camera and take this pic for now. unfortunately the camera is 10 years old and i could not turn the flash off. its technically not portable at all with the adapter. it wiggles around so much that games reset or glitch. fitting the nintendo sleeve into the cart slot takes up the space between the slot and the adapter. It also extends up far enough to reduce wiggle on the cart itself. I'm pretty proud of it, as it was a cheap fix and works pretty well. i am open to ideas though as i would like a better solution.

Finally got my hands on a Majesco made game gear. They came out around 2000 and supposedly have better audio and video then sega made game gears. I'm gonna recap cap it and do a led backlight mod.

Edit:  Steve already recapped the gamegear for me and I finally got the parts to back light it. The original inspiration for the mod came from here: http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13132. The method I used was the DS top screen backlight and the gameboy power inverter. The DS needs 15 volts to power the backlight and the gameboy inverter does the job nicely. The article mentions removing the plastic around the gamegear screen to make it brighter and have everything fit. I do not recommend this as its easy to damage the GG screen. Instead i used a small pair of wire snips to remove the bottom plastic edge from the GG screen allowing it to fit without further modification. I have 4 pics to share. As usual, sorry my camera is junk. The first three pics show various states of testing and wiring, the last is the screen when on. Sorry the picture is blurry, but you will notice the backlight is even all the way across with no hot spots.

Sorry folks, will add other two pics to post at end of thread. man i suck at this.

Quote from: Mishran on 06/30/2012, 09:09 AMBut such a device isn't highly sought, so it wouldn't be worth a person's time and money to design and manufacture such a device unless it is embedded into a flash cart.
I'm with Mish. Not sure how many people would use a game genie on a turbo system. Now, make a device that acts like a real time hardware save state like this device:

This is what i have made so far, but its not perfect. I have sent prototypes to steve for evaluation. He believes it's workable. I can only build these in composite out. Steve can build them with everything including the kitchen sink. I would be more then willing to help, but if steve wants to take the reigns on this he can add it to his lexicon of services. Such a device can be built to hold every connector you could possibly want. I'm sure if there were enough people interested he might take a look at it.

What your looking for is one of these:
GBS-8200-PCB.webp
wayback.jammaboards.com/yuv-to-vga-converter-pcb-gbs-8220/

You can also find them on ebay.
you also need one of these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCART-RGB-RGBS-cable-RGB-CGA-EGA-YUV-VGA-converter-Genesis-SNES-Sega-/200694228811?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item2eba4ee74b
and finally you will need a ac adapter to power the converter board. all three of those will allow you to output your rgb modded duo with the scart cable to a modern lcd tv. The converter board is also an upscaler and filter and provides in my opinion excellent video output. the cable that you buy above will also let you hook up your sega genesis, and snes to a modern lcd as well.  The arcade board will auto setup itself. I hope this helps.

I have wanted a PCE GT/Turbo express since the day they came out. Two years ago I gave a TG16 to my best friend to introduce him to the Turbo for the first time. Until then he had never heard of one.  This year he bought me a PC-engine GT with the help of my wife as an early christmas present.  I sent it out to Steve for repair and a new screen and got it back today.  First I want to thank the hard work and dedication of this community to even make such mods and repairs possible. I have been to alot of forums and this one has one of the closest communities I have ever seen.  Also, huge thanks to Steve for taking on the project and putting up with me for the last month.  He did a fantastic job and I highly encourage anyone wanting similar work done, look him up.  Please forgive the picture, my lack of photoshopping skills does not do the picture justice at all. Turns out, my batteries suck as well. After reading another thread in this forum on just such a matter, i'm gonna purchase some eneloop rechargables to fix the problem.  I dont have the funds yet. When I do get the batteries I will put up a picture of it running.

Forgive the blatant butt snorkling, but i'm a huge turbo fan and this site and its forum goers has made my dreams possible. Thank you all again, and Huge thanks to Steve!!!
