Well just got back this morning and what a trip i had. I metup with Nulltard on the way down and after a really good lunch and a huge margarita, he then forced piles of douphile wares into my arms and now i am even enjoying them with my breakfast. Thank you Nulltard!


We found so much stuff is was ridiculous. The suv was completely full from roof rack carrier and filled to back of front seats by the time me and my friend were driving back to vegas. Out of all the hundreds of things we bought on this show a mere 3 items were held in the clutches of my hands almost the entire trip back. 1 of them by far is now my most prized obey item (can you guess which one?).

One thing i did learn is as i traveled over 6 different states, the turbografx brand recognition dwindled. It was to the point i would ask a local game store about it and would hear the words that pained my virgin ears " huh turbografx? what's that?"..... It was sad but i have forgiven the midwest of this heinous crime due to it giving me a small piece of heaven i have never seen before. I present my turbowatch:

I don't have a camera to take a better picture, just my laptop, but I spent just a few bucks on some things and was able to make this for my Virtual Boy:



It works freaking beautifully. If you've ever played a Virtual Boy for more than 20 minutes, you know that the real problem with the system isn't the red, it's that it hurts to play it. If you use the stand and put it on a desk, you have to hunch over and strain your shoulders/neck/back. If you lie down, the system itself is pretty heavy and can fall off your face, so you have to remain perfectly still. I used to recline in my chair and put the stand on my arms, but I still couldn't budge, and my arms would fall asleep. Coming out of a 30 minute session felt like waking up from surgery.

This is a great solution. All the weight of the system is held by the ropes, and the head-strap keeps the system in place. I can lean my head back on my chair, fidget all I like, and play this thing with nearly the same level of comfort as watching a normal TV.

What pulled me back in was probably neutopia.  But I love platformers and shmups- the pc-engine/turbo has plenty of these.  Blazing Lazers would have to be the one that finally pulled me back.

I love Blazing Lazers and Tapatalk as well.  Welcome back! Do be sure to check out all of the great resources on these boards, as well as the settings page in tapatalk where the signature can be disabled.  I personally love the signature, but some folk, such as Turbokon and Sign of Zeta, get all bent out of shape over it.

I've seen a few cards that have some girth like sf2 but damn that's a fatty. As far as i know both pce and tg16 hucards were flat for that game. I'm sure others will chime in shortly with a more definitive answer though.

Just found these. I like, but there are a few problems with the "Custom" insert that really drive my inner Grammar Nazi up a wall.

"For a short time, the peace and prosperity that had existed for 800 years before was returned to the land."

Remove the two words I've made bold. The "for" implies that Ys had been peaceful for the 800 years leading up to the present day, which is definitely not the case. The "was" creates some really awkward phrasing.

"But it is up to you, great adventurer, that must guide him!"

It seems like you changed this sentence halfway through writing it. I would suggest either this:

"But it is up to you, great adventurer, to guide him!"

Or this:

"But it is you, great adventurer, that must guide him!"

Also, while I'm at it, might I suggest changing the word "great" to "brave"? It seems a better fit, not just because it works better with the adventurer idiom, but also because it seems a bit presumptuous to call the player "great" when he hasn't proven himself by beating the game yet.

The 2nd image looks more appropriate. I was thinking the same thing for how the brownish sheen matches the back. That stair case isn't supposed to be next to him - it's a whole cleared area (think of the area right passed the two posts). And he can move back and forth, for the way the screen scrolls. The beam he shoots can be altered on the angle slightly too. And there are other attack sprites that go with it (a charge on the mouth area, and the floor hit spark/wave).

 Can't say if he is completely finished (AI), but all the graphics are there for him to function properly. Also, I can get the ground to show - it's just not in that pic (the map engine is very powerful, flexible and complex - so I don't understand all the variables involved). 

 I suspect he's functional, because all the assets are there as well as the map/stage layout for him. Probably taken out in near the end stage of development (why waste memory on it if they aren't going to use it? They could have used that room for other animation).

 If I could just figure out how to find/change that end of sublevel marker/variable. I've messed around with other areas, and changed to screens with 'doors' - but they don't function (or show up) either. There's gotta be some sort of 'object' map. The problem is, Konami didn't make ram as one linear layout; it's got chunks in between code, etc. So it's harder to looks for data patterns in memory (ram).

ya the second one for sure. I think the other part was his leg. I saw the brown sheen on top but then i saw it on his side too. Maybe only 2 neck sections though?

OK, the next step in this is probably going to be boring, but I used a MICROSOFT SIDEWINDER (back when USB was NEW!) pad to play emulated games on the computer.  It replaced my older pad that was a 15? Pin serial port connector)

I know a lot of folks will admit to using the keyboard, too. I tried playing lots of games with the keyboard.

I also had a BARBIE controller w/ 15-pin serial connector. It was packaged with an awesome  "PlayStation Barbie" doll that had a tiny PS1 that Barbie carried in a cute pink briefcase.

I had that but ended up loving the gravis exterminator. It was game port connector but had a usb adapter with it and it was the best controller for pc by far! I had this for a long time and don't remember what happened to, must have lost it moving sometime...

My friend used to write interesting articles (online and print publications) a few years ago (late 90's, early ) about wacky stuff like that. He shared so many crazy stories.

Anyway, one of my favorite things he did: play chess/card games with this old dude (in his 70's-80's). The dude, of course, played in the nude and had an all-glass table. If you were a free-spirit, like the old codger, you were encouraged to take off your clothes as well, but you were under no pressure to do so. He simply wanted people to play cards/chess with him whilst he was naked.
