Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

General Gaming / I’m back!
06/03/2022, 03:35 PM
It's been forever and a day.

However, nightwolve (LLC) has invited me back after the resurrection of our lord and savor all things Obey.

I'll eventually relearn how to use forums and post more interesting things. Maybe even included images!

I was at a GameStop yesterday. I was semi shocked more annoyed how they had faken ALL of their PS3/360 games. Dumped all the cases and just had sleeves and sleeves of game disks in their used bins.

I even found a few games so wanted still.  It I don't want to pay GS used prices is it's just a game disk.
#3
I bought a ghost and a ton of anime off right stuff. And limited run and special reserve games and what nots.

Pics incoming.

Brace your self the pics. Are. Coming.
#4
As for 360 games I would recommend.

You could. Set it on fire.  lol. Jk.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 11/05/2018, 11:44 PMI've had the JP version of Cotton for years and I had no idea there was an option to change the text. I wonder what other JP CD games have this option? I think JB Harold and Carmen Sandiego do. Are there any others?
Great question. No idea.

The only two port games I know of that allow text to change from JP to ENG is this and Super Metroid. Lol
#7
Then I will sale my copy on fb for $800. Lol.

Jk

Never selling my copy.

Great game. I'd just get the PCE version. It can be switched to English.
#9
I too got that Ash vs Evil Dead Collection. That bobble head is surprisingly well made. Not just cheap plastic or vinyl.

Although the series ended prematurely then what was intended. The final episode does still work as a series final.
#10
I kinda want to get he white Verona. But. It sure if it would clash to all hell when attacked to a Sega cd.
#11
Just learned the same. Seems their webpage finally updated as it was inaccessible for awhile.

Seems to have ability to connect to a Sega cd. Play everything Genesis backwards. No verification from what I could tel to play 32X games without the need of that converter.

Would like it if a modern cd reader of some sort could also be used as well.

Off-Topic / Divisive Topic.
10/06/2018, 10:01 AM
So here is a topic that's gotten tons of divisive comments on a movie collector fb group.

Scenario:

Used media store. Chain company sales used movies, tv shows, music etc.

Cases of movies are displayed while DVDs and what not are stored to keep people from stealing.

Potential customer walks in the store. Looks through movies. Finds some of the empty cases have the paper slip with the digital download code inside. Asks employees if he can claim codes.

Employees say "we can't sale the codes, guarantee they work, and usually claim the codes ourselves. If you find a code that works we don't care if you use it just put the case back because reshelfing is a lot of work".

Potential customer (I say that because let's say the guy doesn't buy a thing and walks out) then proceeds to find one or more codes that work. Claim them.

So that's the story.

Now the response.

1) that's stealing.

2) that's greedy

3) movie companies can press charges on you

4). That's a felony offens because at the start of every movie it says so.

5) you are just justifying the stealing of property and a bad person

6)  if the store doesn't care what's the issue

7) does any ever use these codes?

There are more but they mostly for the moralistic rout.

Personal take.

1) stealing?  Not if the entity selling the used products considered it stealing. Sure the person who buys the used item might want a working code but that would mean they would need to go through every used case to find a code that works if any have a code and it works.

2) illegal. No. The code is a legal means for the pubsliher to entice a buyer to get the new item. Once it's no longer new the publisher does not get any revenue. Additionally since the dotogital codes are not meant to be sold asperity most 3rd party companies can't sale the code. eBay has 3rd party rules against it, and the original owner who sold the item never claimed the code. The publisher already factored the existence of the code from potential additional revenue, and made it so the code can expire after X amount of time if not claimed.

3) greedy. Of course. No doubt. Is it wrong?  We are taking about collectors who value the quantities of stuff in a collection. That's an absered notion.

Lastly, yeah what's the deal with these codes?  For years I never claimed my codes. But recently went through my movie library and claimed as many as I could that still worked. Even did the same at my parents as they didn't care or want their codes. I also now claim the codes when I buy new movies. Yes my physical media library is in the hundreds maybe more then a thousand. While my Doris library is around 70. But here is the thing. I have no intrinsic value for the digital library. One day that digital library can get shit down. The company can go out of business. But that physical copy. I can always pick up and watch if I wanted to.

So basically it boils down to this. Are there policies that prevent or discurage a person from claiming. Codes for digital media that they themslef did not buy?  Not really. Unless you are walking into a store opening up new items meant for an original owner you are not doing anything wrong.

But that's just my take. What is some of yours?  Do you agree it's simlly wrong and feel shame?  Do you want to run out now to your local used movie store and ask if you can look for unclaimed codes?

I'll have the gayest of times. One way. Or another.

I am finally taking some time to watch an Anime I bought during a sale.

That anime being "School Live".

On episode one but I think knowing. The twist ahead of time is making the set up to be less inticing.

I love the model one. Got two of them. They look the best IMO.

However I have two for a reason. They are hard as well to keep running.

A CDX works great and more reliable.

It's a game I bought the PCE of when I first got into Turbo. Mostly as it was $35 import.

I became interested due to rarity and having greatly enjoyed Bonk 1&2.

Once I played it although it is more of the same.  It just didn't make me want to go back and play more of it like the first two games. Which is odd. With Bonk 1&2 I can look at the spin label and instantly say yes let's play some of that.

With Bonk 3 I pause and think do I feel like it?

Years later I did pick up a loose NA Bonk3 in a lot of other games from a fb page. Mostly because I wanted to complete my NA Bonk games (not including other systems). Oddly enough I only played it for 20-40 minutes once just to test it out when it got to my house.

In short Bonk 3 is a game more infamous for price and rarity then it is as a game to enjoy for its intended purposes.

In the soectrum of games (any system) that are expensive, sought after, and rare very few have ever lived up to the hype. The hysteria. Or the price (as most have to but the bullet instead of finding a Surprise at Dinasor Peek for $5 or such).
#23
Quote from: Joe Redifer on 09/03/2016, 07:07 PMBonk 3 is OK. I think by the time Bonk 3 (or PC Genjin 3 for the weeaboos) came around, the world had grown tired of Bonk. That includes the developers. I thought it was cool turning big and small the first couple of times I did it but after that It was an annoying feature. Besides giant Bonk, the game offered no progression in graphical technology. The music in the HuCard version is better than the CD version. There is also more animation in the HuCard versio due to the severe limitations of the Super CD-ROM technology. This is why Nintendo stuck with carts on the N64, people.
I always thought Nintendo stuck with carts is similar to why they like to stay one generation behind on most things.

Because it's tried and true tech that became cheaper as the next new thing came out allowing their teams tk better exploit old tech that they have become more experienced at.

Cheaper.
More experienced at utilizing
Cheaper.

Expect for the N64 carts. By that time they were the only ones still using carts instead of CDs so the cost to manufacture increased as the industry as a whole moved beyond it. Making Nintendo pay a premium for stay with older tech.

I don't know what you mean. The system has no Shooters.

It's primarly a pong clone.

These came out on DVD ages ago as well, I recall Carl Macek was involved.
That they did through adv films but after they went out of print prices for them sky rocketed. All i have is a bootleg set of them which is a rip of the adv release.Still it doesn't hurt that aura is getting a official release for bluray.Really though, these releases for 80's anime have been slow but it's getting there.
I think I backed this Blu-ray and English dub off Kickstarter.

Off-Topic / Retro controllers and mods.
07/29/2018, 10:19 PM
So I have been thinking of retro controllers recently due to 8bit duos new DIY PCBs.

Basically it's a PCB for the NES, NES mini, SNES, SNES mini, and Genesis 6-button controller. You unscrew the controller yank out the guts toss in the new board and close it up. Then you have a "new" blue tooth controlor ready to be used on a PS3/4, XBONE, Switch or retro device that has a 8bit duo controlor connector for blue tooth play.

As Sheldon once said everything is better with Bluetooth.

I personally live this user friendly so dad that $20 off their website. As I have 2-3 contrives thst I have kept that are messed up or the costs is all janky.

Then I thought. What about the NES Advantage? Or the 3 button genesis controlor/stick?  What about PCE controlor s?  Or other third party stuff that you pay prefer over original controls (but made during the era of the systems life).

Thoughts?

Hey NW. I am surprised you didn't continue with import gaming as you seemed to have been interested in it long before I. Although I grew up with Atari 2600 and on word I never considered or was exposed to anything not released in NA. In fact I would go so far as to say I though all games released in NA existed in other territories and there was simply no difference in game libraries as a 80s something kid.

Which is why in these past 8 years I have found expanding into import gaming is more viable, information more plantable, and it's like rediscovering old systems with new old stock of games.

I have realized that slowly I have become a bit of a famicom fan. Initially getting the games boxed wasn't to hard or expensive. However Lose has become the more affordable route these past few years. With that's said I find myself thinking of ways to store and organize my loose fami carts.

I also find myself constantly looking for that next fun game. So with all that said I thought let's talk famicom. Sure I could go to NA. But. Then I'd have to go to NA. Lol.

Best ports of the ninja warriors,mega-cd of course then follow by the amgia. It's also on taito memories for PS2 but i don't know how good that port is.The game also had a digital release for PS4 as a arcade archive title to.
That PS4 release sounds interesting. Does it require you to be on line to play?  I hate when PSN requires you to be on line at all times to play digital down load games
For games released by hamster for the arcade archives series do not have online play.
Looked through the current catalogue. A few interesting arcade games. However $7 a game? Dang.

Kinda shitty that you can buy it for the consoles, but the backers have to sit and wait.
I have seen some people have gotten them. However those who have seem to be youtubers doing streams and what not they might have had preference to drunk up word of mouth and sales.

I have to agree with the op.

Your daughter isn't 18 yet or 17 or what ever the age is suppose to be.

So she doesn't get to dictate to parents conditions (which will undermine your authority as a parent).

I am more surprised your spouse is not showing a united front on this.

For me it would be like this: you can be embarrassed all you want, however this is a matter of safety and my knowledge that you will be home safe after your party. So until you have your own car, a license, and of the legal age to make your own choices independent from your mother and I you do not dictate terms and conditions on the level of freedoms you are afforded.

I am in the middle of moving and have all my stuff boxed up.

Do backers get this game as well?  Will it be included physically with the full game?

Quote from: seieienbu on 05/13/2018, 08:45 PMThe complaint that I see, from the trailer, seems to not be that Apu is bad but instead that there's not other representation of Indian persons in media (or at least there wasn't in the early 90s?).  Yeah, he probably wouldn't be made today but there are a lot of classic things that wouldn't happen today.

I was curious enough that I checked the website where I could legally stream it.  I'd watch the whole thing if I could but it wants me to sign in through my cable provider and I'm not even remotely interested enough in what some guy has to say about a cartoon character to set that nonsense up so oh well!
You tried harder then I to watch it.

Taking what I have seen out of context and based spiky off interviews of the comedian.

His stand up stick is basically Apu.

He frequently mocks and stereotypes of cutlers/people/ethnicities. But you satire his cultural identity and on no white prowl gone to far.

Granted that's about the gist of every person who do not identify as white. We can bash in white people as the United whipping boy. White men most of all. But doing the same to other races is going to far. Lol. I have always found the hypocrisy of SJWs and their like to be most humors that they are blind to their own biases

And that's coming from a guy who is mixed race. But because my last name is English (white) I am culturally dimensioned as being only white and male. Not a personal with Mexican heritage and grew up among Hispanic people more so then white people.
