Hey, I realize that these are different genres, but what order would you purchase these games in?  Recently picked up a Supergrafx/cd-rom rom.  I only own ghouls and ghosts as of now.

Here are the games I'm interested in;

Lords of Thunder/Winds of Thunder
PC Denjin (CD/hucard)
Pop N' Magic
Star Parodier

I'm looking to pick up games for $30 and under for now, but if you know any need to buy games, give me a heads up.

Well for $30 you can buy a Lords of Thunder at Turbo Zone Direct. The people at TZD are friendly and they only sell new/unopened tg16 stuff.

I haven't played PC Denjin or Pop N' Magic, but have played the other two on your list. Star Parodier is a colorful shooter and its intro is more entertaining than Lords of Thunder. My favorite stage is where you fight the level 4 boss of Super Star Soldier, and also the Bomberman stage.

Still you can't go wrong with Lords of Thunder. It's a classic shooter and that should be in everyones turbo library. Amazing graphics, gigantic bosses, and the challenge should keep you occupied for several weeks. Where as Star Parodier can be beaten in a day or two.

cavein2000

sweet... thanks for the heads up on the TZD site!

If price wasn't a factor, I'd rank them in this order-

Lords'
Star Parodier
PC Denjin/Air Zonk
Pop N Magic

Since Lords is cheapest anyway, I say go go get it.

I'd also suggest buying the HuCard Zonk/Denjin. The CD game is actually a sequel which at the very least isn't as good(as the original) and depending who you ask, not very good.

If you're a Capcom fan(as well as a shooter fan), I suggest also buying Forgotten Worlds. Its as cheap as Lords and is an amazing port.

One must-own for sure is Gate Of Thunder. Its worth it, whatever the price or region. But you should hold out for the 4-In-One/U.S. version since it has the extra games on it.

Thanks!  Gate of thunder looks sick, I can't really say that I'm a shooter fan, but I'm looking to get into it.  NEC seems to specialize in the genre.  I'm fairly new to the console, but owned a tg16 as a kid.  I def want to get a mint copy of drac X, and some of the more expensive collectors games, but I really have to learn how to budget.  I have been buying video games like crazy.

By the way is that a bonk tattoo you've got there?

Yeah, thats a real Bonk tattoo. The photo was taken before it healed, but it looks at least as good now.

I just thought that you were looking for shooters because of your list.

I could list a pile of super-cheap but ultra-amazing Turbo Hu Card games to buy, but I guess you can't play them.

Some other cheap(many are based on my Turbo-price based knowledge, PCE may cost more) but great games-

Shooter:

R-Type I & II -Hu
Aero Blasters -Hu
Dead Moon -Hu
Side Arms -Hu
Side Arms Special -CD
Forgotten Worlds -CD

Action/Arcadey:

Ninja Spirit -Hu
Bikurriman World (Wonderboy II/MW) -Hu
Monster Lair (Wonderboy III Arcade) -CD
Makyo Densetsu (Legendary Axe) -Hu
Bloody Wolf -Hu

Adventure:

Adventure Island (WonderboyIII/MWII) -Hu
Dynastic Hero (Wonderboy IV/MWIII) -CD
Dungeon Explorer -Hu
Neutopia -Hu

Platformer:

PC Genjins' -Hu

RPG:

Ys I & II -CD
Ys III -CD
Tengai Makyou II -CD
Tengai Makyou Fuun Kabuki Den -CD
Neo Metal Fantasy -CD

Pinball:

Alien Crush -Hu

Misc:

Bomberman' -Hu

If you can afford it($35'ish) and either have any interest in Adventurey/Zelda-y(turbo charged Ys) or just want a show-piece game, you should pick up Kaze No Densetsu/Legend Of Xanadu II. Its got some of the nicest graphics & art around(its the Final Fantasy III/IV of PCE).

awesome...

I do have a turbo grafx along with the supergrafx and cdrom2.  Thanks for the recs.  Right now I have ghouls and ghosts for the sg and bonk's revenge, super adventure island and splatterhouse for the tg16.  I have a cd-r of drac X, but the music tracks would stop playing randomly the couple times I tried it.

The next step is to pick up a cd game to make sure its not the system (I hope).  The supergrafx and cdrom2 cost me over $250.

Lords of thunder seems like a good start, but the legend of xanadu II sounds good if you recommend it.  Zelda is def more my style.

Yeah, like a lot of other Turbo/PCE CD games, Lords is worth buying for the soundtrack alone.

If you buy a Bonk game, I recomend picking up Revenge first, since its the best(in my opinion), but Adventure is really fun.

Bonk 3 isn't as polished(as Revenge) or fun(as Adventure) overall, but it has some cool giant sprites.

Calm down and take deep breaths.

First, I just want to say why did you sell your NEO?!

Second, you've become a compulsive buyer. Very common among new people who just begun collecting games for retro systems that everyone thinks is cool. You're not the only one, I've been there.

You're probably combing the interent for pce reviews, and then handing over wads of cash for the games that are considered the best in every genre. Please, don't do that. You'll waste your money that way.

Your going to make it dont worry.

Here some advice to keep you from falling into the money pit:

Limit yourself to 5 games, and play them. I really mean it.

Or better yet, play them on an emulator like Magic Engine. After hour, if you don't like the game then don't buy it.

Answer to some of your questions - Why did I sell my neo ? Used the funds from my aes to buy myself a Bally Adams Family pinball machine that I always wanted ! :)

Compulsive buying? - truth be told yes though my reason for this is I have been bagging myself some right bargains while prices are low unlike the US UK importers can be really expensive,so when Ive seen games like Bloody Wolf,Ninja Spirit for £20 I've been snapping them up as importers here are normally charging double for both !

Use an emulater - thats why I'm buying them all lol  :D

But yes I do play them alot - video machines either old or new are made to be played not to be put in a glass cabinet while you sit there and go oooooooooo I've got that rare cart and that rare cart which you find is quite common with a neo owners.

Anyway,I've gone on long enough thanks for your advise and I'll try ! Maybe 10 games a month ? hehe

Hve fun guys play them engines ..................................... :D

Great find on the pinball machine.  :D
Whenever I go to Las Vegas arcades I usually spend an hour playing the pinball machines since most are neglected.

Wow, 20 GBP is quite expensive to me. I hope for that price, the hucards are complete with jewel case and manual.

20 quid EXPENSIVE !! Thats cheap over here !! Yes for that price they are minty fresh and most include warrenty card to !

While I'm here anyone got/played Terra Cresta II loved the first in the arcades many many moons ago but I carnt seem to locate any reviews anywhere (IN ENGLISH !).Knew I shud of took more notice of languages when I was in school !

I've never knew they made Terra Cresta II for the pce. I would have to check that one out to see for myself. Was their ever a Terra Cresta II for the arcade?

I've played Terra Cresta on the nes and its one best shmups on that console. Very alestean IMHO, mainly because its a veritical shooter, plenty of firepower, and the powerups are numbered like in Zanac/Aleste.

Have you also tried Moon Cresta in the arcade, its the prequel to Terra Cresta?

radiantgun

Terra Cresta II also came out on the Sega Saturn many moons ago it interlaced 2d levels with 3d boss stages ! It sort of worked ! I've found two copies one used one NEW in shrinkwrap at a site here in the UK BUT for the NEW copy there asking 109 GBP !!!! Tried to find it on some emulators but to no avail.

I am a shooter man - you cannot beat a good old blast after a crappy day at work - relieves the built up tension !!
