Hori Fighting Commander PC Controller

I love this controller. The white pc engine controller killed my hands when playing Ys I and II, but this controller definitely changed how I look at PC Engine now. I wish I had it earlier.

I want to get me one some day.  The ave 6's d-pad makes my thumb sore and the d-pad on the RX pad is pretty meh, so I'm sure I'd like the Hori.

I just bought one today from the Netherlands at $35. Let's see how it holds up.
I do not have any games yet that really take advantage of six-button-controllers, but this might change soon.

My thing is the circular SNES design, which doesn't cramp my hands. I played Ys III for like 3 hours last night and I didn't want to cut my hands off.

Do you like using it with two button games too? I'm not sure I could dig that with the positioning of I and II.

I've cleared that game a dozen times over the years, never had a problem with controllers. This is a game where you don't even have to press "attack". I could easily play it for many hours with probably any controller, even 3DO. It sounds like you need physical/mental therapy or something. The standard  PCE pad isn't perfect, but it's rare for anyone to complain about it unless they have hooks for hands. Do you have hooks for hands? Is all this too late? How long have you been struggling with issues of self harm?

Ys III requires a button press to attack, as do Ys II and IV if you want to use magic.  You've played the games, right?

I have a Hori fighting commander but I prefer the standard NEC 2 button pad.  Since the early '90s I've always associated PCE/Turbo games, the systems and the whole experience with the standard NEC pad.  I use the Hori mainly for 6 button games and I do prefer it over the Ave 6 pad.  The Hori is an excellent controller but I'll never replace the trusty NEC 2 button pad.

I want one for games that need six buttons.  The rest of the time I'll stick to my wireless pads or Ave 3 when the batteries are dead or I wanna lounge around on the floor.

Pretty much. It makes more sense to have 3 fingers covering 6 buttons to me than just your thumb. Or maybe I just don't know how to hold a controller.

I got this controller recently. Definitely works great for 6 button games like SFII.

I've also used it on and off for shooters and the d pad works pretty great too. The two button configuration isn't nearly as bad as you'd think. Though to be fair, my controller of choice is almost always the Ave 3 pad.

The ave 3 was always just so damn expensive. I got the hori for $40 boxed and shipped.

Ys IV can make use of six buttons, I didn't realize this until I was about 90% through it. I'm pretty sure there are a few other games that aren't fighting games that use it

This looks like a very comfortable controller. I want it but I have so many controllers already . Especially for a system with one controller port. But what can I say I really love this system.

I think about getting at least one of the fighting games, e.g. SFII or one of those were girls fight in cute costumes.
When the Hori pad arrives and proves to be good, I'll sell two of my PCE Duo pads.

Got one of these not too long ago for Street Fighter II and it works pretty well, I went with it over the Ave 6 button because I don't like the look of the Ave much. The only thing I don't like about it is that I often wind up pushing the switch for button V up when I try and do certain special moves. Can't even feel that I'm doing it, I just look down every so often and see that it is once again in the II or III position.

When I first got my Hori I was wondering the same about the two 6b positions.  No difference as far as I can tell.  They were probably trying to keep a uniform/matching look with the other switches. 

Would be nice if somehow a mod like maybe a 3 button mode could use the extra position.

You mean the A/B switch?  That switch is to go between 2-button and 6-button modes; some games will have a cow if fed 6-button info.

Got the controller in the mail today.

As mentioned somewhere else in this forum recently, we euro cavemen prefer to ship our used videogame stuff as filthy as possible. This controller was no exception, since the whole pad was sticky as well as the cord, which also had stains on it.

So I followed the usual procedure of disassembly and cleaning all plastic parts in a bowl of water and dishwashing liquid, cleaning the cord with water and germicide, and the rubber membranes as well, sparing the contacts.

Now that the controller is reassembled, it feels pretty much like the original SNES controller in my hands. The buttons and the d-pad have next to no difference in visual appearance and pressure sensitivity. As mentioned by Sadler, my digit fingers are automatically searching for shoulder buttons which don't exist of course.

To me, this is a very nice 6-button-controller.
