@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I haven't even seen a copy for sale in a couple years, period.

merriman_bk

Think I've seen about 4-5 copies go in the last year or so (1 on a forum, rest ebay).  Loose hucard seemed to go for near $300, complete a hell of a lot more.

The few loose HuCards I've seen on ebay the last few years went for anywhere between $100 - $200.

Someone put up a sealed copy for $1200.

"Cheap" is quite the exaggeration. The PCE version will still cost you hundreds of dollars.

The PCE version consistantly sells for $100 - $150 tops on eBay. Its only the Turbo version's value thats out of whack since it doesn't show up for sale very often.

i did see the JP version last week under glass in a store for 16800 yen.   but i have never seen the US version in a store or on ebay. did TZD have any?

Nazi NecroPhile

Yup, TZD had it in their flyers - I still wish that I would've picked it up back then.  Ah well, wish in one hand and crap in the other.

I'm really only guessing at the year, but 1993 or 1994 was the last time I saw any TurboGrafx games at my local Radio Shack.

MrFulci

Up until 1996, 1997 (maybe later) Radio Shack around here had a catalog that was bolted to a stand that one could flip through. The catalog covered pretty mcuh everything Radio Shack could order. Inside it showed some Turbo Grafx games for order. I think they were sourced from TZD, though.
"Damnit, Beavis, put that away. You're not supposed to have your _____ out when you're cooking".

nat

Your Radio Shack was obviously far cooler than mine.

We had no such catalog.

MrFulci

Nat,

I didn't know about the catalog 'til TZD told me about it in the mid 90's. It's been a while, but I think TZD is where the games were sourced from if you ordered from Radio Shack during that time (1996 or so).

Yeah, I didn't feel like wasting another $10 on Bonk 3 CD and Dynastic Hero.

It was probably around 1995.

It wasn't a regular Radio Shack. They brought in whatever they felt like and had stock from every platform.

Agreed that's why i said the PCE version is cheaper.

While it's in, the $100.00+ range i'd go with that then spend money on the U.S version.

Shortly after the Saturn came out (what year was that?) I bought Vasteel at Toys R Us for a few bucks. My friend got me a few games as well, since they were so cheap... I couldn't believe that TRU still had the games in stock. That was the last TG-16 game I bought "for real." Everything after that was courtesy TZD.

Toys R Us seemed to keep a stock of TG games long after everywhere else stopped carrying them.

I, too, made my last in-store TG purchase at a Toys R Us.

toys r us always managed to keep games around past thier time. it was great to go in and see out of print games. i even saw a stack of atari 5200 games  one time when i went in there in 1991!  i bought most of my tg16 games there as they were the only one with a decent selection in my area. babbages always seemed to  run low for some reason.

but when a gamestop-esque store opened, the first of its kind in our area, it was the only place i went to go to buy games, it was cheap used tg16 games! it was a shock. there i got parasol stars, cosmic fantasy 2, the cd rom itself, ys and many many more. they also sold manga and guitars, and just about anything else they would feel like, but the focus was games, and it had a mom and pop feel to it that  that sadly, cant be duplicated in this  gamestop monopoly and hysteria of overcharging on common games because to be  nostalgic is nevau cool and because it also inturn deters people from doing a quick turn around on ebay.

the last game i bought in the stores was vasteel in late 94

oh how i long for 1992!

2X4

What is the big deal about this game?  It looks, well, for lack of a more accurate term, gayer than a man sandwich.  I mean, look at the title!  What am I missing here?
The Turbo was Dual Core when Dual Core wasn't cool . . .

Turbo D

well, apparently the US version has different backgrounds that are less gay. I seen a comparison on some dudes site.

It has more scrolling for the U.S version.

Still i feel it's price is a rip off if you ask me for, Magical Chase any ways.

Ummmm...... chips.  =P~

It's been said many times before - the cost Magical Chase (and other such games) has far more to do with scarcity than game play quality.  M.C. is a pretty good cute 'em up, but it wouldn't fetch more than $30 if it was readily available.

I like Cotton also, but I think Magical Chase is way more fun and less frustrating.  Also the graphics are more colorful and the enemies/bosses are more creative and insane.

is there a hidden music option in the usa version??

Cause I know there is one on the japanese version and there's a track that I don't think is used anywhere in game..

and apart from the rarity and IMO a great game plus that its made by Quest and it's their first game ever!!!!

rumours are Quest are formed from ex Square employees (those geezers who make those FF rpg's) before later going on to make SRPGs like battle ogre etc..

and I'm pretty sure I seen ripple and that pumpkin guy make appearances in some of those 'ogre' games..

Seldane

What's Quest?

Anyway, Success made Cotton. Maybe they're the same company, I have no idea.

I always thought Success were like Compile and Camelot. ie. they were part owned by sega but ran independantly..

Quest makers of Magical chase and ogre battle games

Quest - rumour is that this japanese company formed from ex square employees

Nazi NecroPhile

I think you have that backwards Digi.K.  Quest was founded in '88; a few employees left Quest for Square in '95 and made Final Fantasy Tactics (a rip off of Tactics Ogre); and Square finally bought out what was left of Quest in '02.

Here's an odd one for you Cotton fans - a goofy mix of Cotton and After Burner for PCs.

ah ok ^^

The rumour that I have, I got it looong ago before there was any playstation and I'm pretty sure I read it in some american gaming mag (may have been in the gossip collumn in EGM) and before I had any internet but thats as far as my memory goes....... >.>

Quest Corporation (クエスト, Quest Corporation?) was a Japanese video game company founded in 1988.

Quest is best known for its critically acclaimed tactical role-playing game series Ogre Battle. In 1995, key members Yasumi Matsuno, Hiroshi Minagawa, and Akihiko Yoshida left Quest to join Square,[1] where they developed Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story, and have worked on Final Fantasy XII as part of Square Enix. In 2002, Quest was purchased by Square;[1] although the purchase reunited some of Quest's developers with their former colleagues, it may have signaled the end of the Ogre Battle franchise
