Your wire is way too thick, and I'm also not sure why you used a full-size DIN when a mini-DIN is a much better choice for the white PCE.

Quote from: benlefou on 03/12/2016, 02:50 AMMaybe an issue with the power supply?
What PSU are you using?
#3
Drakon would be proud.
#4
Just swapped out the S-video mod in my white PCE for an RGB mod yesterday, and I went and performed Tim's jailbar fix while I was in there. No jailbars to speak of. :)
#5
I usually drill a pilot hole using a small bit, then I use a step bit to finish it off. I used to go through bits until I got the size I needed, but a step bit saves a ton of time since you're not constantly switching out bits.
#6
What kind of power supply are using with your Duo? If you're using a cheap PSU it can generate interference like the kind you're seeing.
#8
I've experimented with those switching regulators before, they're neat but the problem with some of them is that they tend to emit some noticeable interference. You can bring down the interference by using an inductor though.

Quote from: guest on 02/23/2015, 05:24 PMWait wait, Valis III is at the bottom end of the PCE library?

huuuh
This is the same guy who gave Metal Storm on the NES an "F" so he can shove it for all I care.

General Gaming / Re: Disc rot/Bronzing...

I've noticed it's somewhat common with Saturn discs and even some Dreamcast games, they just naturally start developing pinprick-sized holes in them.

Quote from: Pinwizkid on 11/10/2014, 02:05 PMIt's worth noting that this console doesn't have the silver encasing on the pcb and the black transistor hanging off at the bottom of the pcb grows very hot when the console is powered on. From looking at the other console, it seems as though the silver casing acts as a heat sink since the transistor is screwed into it, but I can't be sure because I don't know how hot that transistor usually gets.
The transistor in question is the 7805 voltage regulator and you absolutely, positively must have a heat sink on it. It gets incredibly hot without it and it'll shut down within a few minutes as a result.

It's also worth noting that the HB-F1XV (and the HB-F1XDJ which is pretty much the same computer) is easy to mod for S-video output; you can even solder an S-video jack to the part of the motherboard where the RF modulator normally sits and hence you don't have to drill into the case.
#13
Now it needs an NESRGB...
#14
I'm surprised nobody suggested reflowing the solder joints on the controller ports. The TurboTap has a single-sided PCB (meaning all the traces and solder joints are on the bottom of the board), so there's a pretty good chance it's bad solder joints.

Quote from: ishiyakazuo on 09/23/2014, 08:33 PMand more about keeping a console pristine.
You know it's totally possible to mod a TG-16 without making any holes, right? Hell you can mod a TG-16 for RGB along with a region switch and still not have to make a single mark on the console.
#16
Quote from: ishiyakazuo on 09/23/2014, 11:08 AMIf you have a TG16, why not just use a passive converter?
Because a region mod is cheaper and far more reliable than a converter?
#17
That has more to do with the particular RGB amp in your console and not anything wrong with the Duo-R.
#18
Quote from: NightWolve on 09/01/2014, 07:40 PMDon't understand how someone learned enough about these consoles needing full capacitor replacement and basic soldering technique but not enough to mind the polarity of an electrolytic cap...
Or had the decency to recap the entire system when it's well-known that all the caps in the Duo go bad...

Are you sure you added a little fresh solder when you reflowed the pins? Reflowing alone sometimes doesn't help much, but adding a bit of new solder to the joint goes a long way.

Quote from: Dicer on 08/04/2014, 11:59 AMI'll have to give this a go, thanks for the info...I assume it's safe to put the port in the useless rf space?
It's perfectly fine, I've done this with a few TG-16s and PCEs and never had an issue.
#22
Holy shit those are some thick wires.
#23
Quote from: Joe Redifer on 07/02/2014, 11:01 PMNice job with the molex connector. I really like that idea. Is there anywhere they can be had in bulk? The only drawback is that they can take up quite a bit of space.
I wouldn't recommend using Molex connectors because of how big they are. I use DuPont connectors in my mod work which are much smaller and more readily available.
#24
Knowing the Duo-R I'm willing to bet it's the solder joints. The through-holes for the DIN jack are only plated on the bottom, so eventually given time and wear, the joints will crack.
#25
I did manage to pop it off... but broke a few latches in the process. There's several latches on each side of the white tray and I couldn't bend it enough to undo the snaps.
#26
Quote from: guest on 04/29/2014, 08:41 PMNot to poop on anyone's party lol
I think you kind of are honestly.

I'd be interested in both, PM sent.

Quote from: guest on 04/19/2014, 01:13 AMI will give it that the giant drama threads are absolutely hilarious.
I love the Messy Mod Work thread, it was largely responsible for driving Drakon and his horrible mod work off much of the web and should serve as a great inspiration for beginning modders on what not to do.

Bump.
#31
Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but how does the white tray on the IFU come out? I'm disassembling one in order to clean it out, and I can't seem to get the tray out. I'm assuming it's snapped on but I really don't want to put stress on it and break a latch or two.

Quote from: wildfruit on 04/18/2014, 03:10 AMIts Japanese version
Not really, it's the Asian release.
#33
I didn't use cream when I did my PCE, I used the clear stuff so all you have to do is submerge it, no rubbing stuff on needed.
#34
It looks fairly awkward to me, and honestly I much prefer having a region mod than a converter.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Loosey Hueys
04/03/2014, 03:39 AM
I think I'm starting to get back into an Obey mood lately and I've been wanting to rebuild my HuCard collection for some time. I'm mainly looking for loose ones right now, here's what I'm currently looking for:

Adventure Island
Alien Crush
Bomberman '94
Dragon Spirit
Fantasy Zone
Final Soldier
Galaga '88
Gekisha Boy
Gradius
Image Fight
Makyou Densetsu
Neutopia
PC Genjin
PC Genjin 2
Salamander
Sidearms
Son Son II
Space Harrier
Street Fighter II
Takahashi Meijin no Shin Boukenjima

I'm also willing to trade for mod work, PM me for details on that!
#36
RGB =/= component. You'll need to use an RGB to component converter like the CVS287 in order for you to use RGB on your TV.
#37
Quote from: schweaty on 03/20/2014, 04:39 PMits a real cheap third party sega/snes combo power adapter.
Those are some of the worst PSUs ever made, dump it and see if you can get ahold of an actual Nintendo AC adapter.
#38
Quote from: Tatsujin on 03/19/2014, 08:32 PMI don't see any meaning in repairing a snes?
Pfft.

Anyway, I would totally suggest trying another PSU as it wouldn't hurt. Failing that, there is the possibility that one of the chips has failed and is causing the undervoltage issue.
#40
I have two of these, one in my Twin Fami and another in my NES top loader. They're fucking awesome and I might start saving up for a third one (!) too.
#41
The PSOne and slim PS2 PSUs also work fine with the Duo-R/RX.
#42
Quote from: sniper on 03/10/2014, 08:28 PMCould my power be too weak? It's 9 volts, 1 amp-- maybe it needs more than one amp to work correctly?
The original PSU puts out 1A so that's not the issue.
#43
Quote from: munchiaz on 03/06/2014, 01:11 PMwould that work on a PC duo R
That plugs into the PCE's expansion port so no way.
#44
Quote from: thesteve on 03/02/2014, 03:26 PMWouldn't be surprised if it could be hooked to pce
It uses digital signals present in the N64 so I'm not sure if it could be adapted for other consoles.

Mine has the round ring and was made around October-November '87.

Quote from: guest on 02/24/2014, 12:44 PMBuy a 1571, not a 1541.    The 1541s are pieces of shit.   I stopped using those years ago because if you look at them wrong, they go out of alignment.
Yeah I wouldn't bother with an actual 1541 either. When they go out of alignment, you have to get a special disk for it and you can't just make a copy of it; you have to actually buy the disk. The 1541-II is also a nice choice since it's small and reliable, but it has an external PSU. There's plenty of third party drives as well, but they use a different BIOS than Commodore drives and some games won't work because of it.
#47
Quote from: saturndual32 on 02/20/2014, 02:47 PMJust realised that a lot of games are said not to work through the SD2IEC adaptor,  i have been reading reports that a lot dont work.
That has more to do with the fact that a number of games depend on the 1541 hardware (which the SD2IEC doesn't fully emulate) to work properly, it doesn't have anything to do with PAL/NTSC issues.
#48
Quote from: guest on 02/15/2014, 05:44 PMOK, now I get what you were saying. Thanks for clarifying. Do you think the Japanese law affecting resale of older electronics maybe hurt the Japanese market for retro goods?
IIRC, that law was actually considered back in 2006 but wound up being dropped.
#49
Quote from: Tatsujin on 02/15/2014, 05:04 AMso then there is even one more advantage of the japanese SMS over the oversea one :D
Indeed. However, the Mark III and the SG-1000 are totally incompatible with Genesis/MD controllers. It's an easy fix though, the reason why they don't work on those systems is because pin 7 is connected to ground, so that messes up the multiplexer chip in the Genesis/MD controller. Just desolder pin 7 or cut the trace for it and you're good to go.

Picked this beauty up from cdamm on Neo-Geo.com a few days ago:

After getting it I recapped it, replaced the original power jack with one compatible with a model 1 Genesis/SMS PSU (and appropriately rewired it), and added an NESRGB board. Here's Rockman 4 in glorious RGB:
