RIP to BT Garner of MindRec.com... BT passed away early 2023 from health problems. He was one of the top PCE homebrew developers and founder of the OG Turbo List, then PCECP.com. Condolences to family and friends. ![]() ![]() |

Much OBEY respect for the people with the knowledge and skill required.Quote from: mac on 10/20/2014, 08:30 AMBootlegging PCE games is not nearly as complex/time consuming as localizing a game (let alone securing legal permission).Quote from: guest on 10/19/2014, 01:15 PMHear, hear !Quote from: guest on 09/22/2014, 11:17 AMPressed is nice, but I don't like how he charges an arm and a leg for something that costs him only a few bucks to produce.
While I do like the concept for this project, personally would have rather seen the money spent on getting a real english translation and publishing rights for one game.
Kaga Create owns the Faussete Armour IP along with other Naxat software titles http://www.kaga-create.co.jp/
(1) A mediocre graphic designer with some experience dealing with printers can easily bootleg a game.
There are a lot of folks in that pool.
VS.
(2) A team of people with the requisite skills to competently localize/translate a PCE game and issue an English-language patch?
Not too many folks can do this.
Sadly.

Quote from: guest on 10/06/2014, 06:53 PMDon't you wish you could hear what PCE music would sound like if it didn't have a shitty 8-bit NES sound chip?Think I have heard better farts
If Hudson hadn't wasted the game on a dead system, it could have sounded like this on the legendary SNES:
Quote from: CGQuarterly on 04/19/2013, 12:10 PMApril 18th chall forever be known in my house as "Dia de Los Neo Geos."Very nice find.
Received 3 packages yesterday, all of which I've been anxiously anticipating.
Package 1: CMVS (w/ power supply and RGB cable) from Xian Xi. Unibios 3.1, stereo mod, battery mod. Got a nice deal on it because I didn't need a video encoder board since I only play on a PVM.
Package 2: 2 Neo controllers from a buddy of mine. Traded him for some custom Xbox controllers that I made a while back.
Package 3: This is the one that I was really worried about. I broke one of the cardinal rules of Craigslist. I did a non-local deal. Found a guy down in LA selling some MVS games, one of which was NTM (my most wanted game). So I figured I'd e-mail the guy and feel him out. Anyway, the deal went smoothly and I got my games. NTM looks practically brand new, and more importantly isn't a boot.
The AES stick already got SANWA'ED! New buttons (obviously) and a new ball top. HUGE improvement. Eventually I want an AI stick, but this stick is great for now.

Quote from: bartre on 04/18/2013, 07:32 PMthe guys who bought that beta did some touching up to it, but that's about it.Nice. I remember reading about it a year or so ago.
it did get a real small homebrew print run, i've got a copy.
Quote from: gameofyou on 04/17/2013, 09:18 PMSystem on a chip ?Quote from: MotherGunner on 04/15/2013, 02:08 PMHi Guys, aside from the obvious (which is money), does anyone know why/how some companies are able to create retro hardware?I think there are 2 main methods. 1) you can design a system with a powerful CPU, and have it run emulation software. Or 2) you can reproduce the original hardware inside an FPGA chip.
Discuss.
Quote from: ElSeven on 04/18/2013, 12:15 AMWould be cool if these guys could fix Geist Force.Quote from: guest on 04/17/2013, 09:49 PMEven a puzzle game, or a driving game would be neat. They were not as high profile as the releases by NG:Devteam, but I heard they are pretty good.
Still, I see your point. The need for great shooters on dreamcast has been satisfied, lets hope these talented devs will move on to other genres.

Quote from: guest on 04/17/2013, 06:40 PMlol. 5$ says the HDMI output sucks monkey balls.probably, but you can beat your ass the controller will.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/17/2013, 02:02 AMIMO 3D platformers aren't very fun most of the time, even when done by very talented people. Aside from Nintendo stuff...there are very few.Agree 3-D platformers as a whole suck and the only exceptions I can think of is Mario Galaxy 1&2. Can't really say much about Mario 64 as I only played it about 10 minutes and decided that controller sucked for me LOL.
Could a homebrew team even begin to deliver something as good as Sonic Adventure 2, a game I consider barely playable due to the amount of time the player spends staring at a wall and swearing at the camera?
It seems like 3D platformers are really fucking hard to make.
Quote from: guest on 04/16/2013, 04:22 PMMan why doesn't someone make a cool 3D game for Dreamcast.Would rather see a cool 2D platformer but yeah it has turned into the schump machine.
Quote from: guest on 04/16/2013, 10:39 AMLooks nice, except for the low resolution (roughly equivalent to a Turbob) for no good reason. I figure if you're gonna make something look like it's running on old hardware, why not make it actually run on old hardware?lol true. I Asked the developers for a PC Engine port
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/15/2013, 08:01 PMI don't want anything remade in the typical PS3 full 3D tutorial laden bullet time QTE 120 hours of gameplay bullshit modern way of doing things. No achievements either.+1
I would like to see flashy remakes/sequels of Valis or Cosmic Fantasy though, more like in the style of the 32-bit era though. High res 2D remakes would be terrific if they used 2D animation with original chara designs for the cinemas, etc. No polygons, no moe.
Quote from: 420GOAT on 04/15/2013, 06:07 PMSaudi national. i hope folks are ok for the most part and i hope this shit doesnt start a trend.

Quote from: guest on 04/15/2013, 04:06 PMA dedicated clone would likely retail for more as well.Which would be fine by me. As good as Mednafen on the Wii is nothing beats using the real hardware imo.
Quote from: SuperDeadite on 04/14/2013, 11:41 PMRedux, which is a remake of Dux, which was absolutely terrible. And Pier Solar HD? lolIt wasnt horrible

Quote from: Mathius on 04/13/2013, 08:20 PMBetter give that Genny a good cleanin'.I will lol. Already had a Sega Cd but it's the model 1 and figured it would be nice to have a backup model.
Quote from: Mishran on 04/11/2013, 06:59 PMGotta bump this thread cause I finally got around to soft modding my Wii. I haven't messed around with it alot yet, but it was super simple and quick. Installed a few emus and some roms on a USB stick. Works like a charm. Gotta thank ya Bernie for bringing this to my attention. I've been using the Wiimote/Nunchuk to play the games since I don't have an alternative at the moment. How well does the Wii classic pad work for this? Might just pick one up used if I can it.The Classic controller is great for Snes and Genesis stuff. Prefer the Wii mote for Nes or TG16.

Quote from: esteban on 04/09/2013, 10:11 PMMEMO TO ALL JAPANOPHILES: Suck my left one. The North American boxart was a GIFT FROM THE GAMING GODS. In real life, nobody looked at cover art for more than a few seconds because they FLIPPED THE BOX OVER TO LOOK AT SCREENSHOTS.LOL, well yeah it was better than the Master System.
SCREENSHOTS determined whether a game was going to be purchased (in conjunction with magazine reviews).
HATIN' ON COVERART is silly.
FURTHERMORE: All consoles were plagued with poor coverart.
Dig up one of the old threads where I defend North American cover art. SUCK MY LEFT ONE, Japanophiles.
