you have logic running hot, start with 5V voltage checks
then replace anything hot
also what is your supply output?
#202
going black after white tho i havent seen it on a TE/GT, i have seen on other versions
it means the system crashed shortly after resetting the pallet registers
the cause has been bad 6280/ bad work ram/ bad trace
any one can cause this, and it could be all, but most common is bad traces
#203
the router was doing strange things, and couldnt seem to get all the pins routed due to the excessive routs it was using
the flex region mod was worse to route as its an extremely small board and auto was butchering it
#204
these dont look original intentionally
the goal was to undercut some of the crazy overpriced games, and try to kill off some of the demand
as far as trace routing, that was mostly done by hand
and yes i would love to have homebrew on these
#205
see a switch can be discreet
#206
finding pin compatible 64k8 chips isnt that hard, its the same as the work ram by the card slot
#207
not quite as he described (hadnt even talked about power source)
i was actually referring to a common exception in most chip data sheets, that states the input voltage doesnt need to be observed as long as currents are
note this only applies to diode protected inputs and would need to be confirmed with the MFG data before designing around it
#208
then your card needs resoldered
the assembly on those wasnt great
#209
inputs to the 3.3v chip will need a resistor to limit current, allowing the internal diodes to clamp the voltage
3.3V outputs are sufficient to control TTL 5V inputs, tho not by a large margin
#210
cant really help with mac
as for it not erasing, the app needs to be opened after plugging in the card, and must be closed and unhooked after flash
it doesnt work twice
#211
as far as 5V it wouldnt be required on the cpld as the RAM can be 5V and drive the outputs
a 3.3v chip can address a 5V chip fine

Quote... new, cheap, repro Arcade card
Yes it can probably be done. Would need a programmable chip (PGA/CPLD) to do the registers, and
extra RAM chips. The real question is if there is enough space on the board for everything...But you would have both sides to work on, so probably.
well my thing is i havent done anything with programmable controllers
as far as space we have about 0.040 chip height to play with and are using TSOP now
also i have no info as of yet on how the pages are called

i learned this back in the 80s, but had long forgotten it

Quote from: guest on 05/01/2016, 03:54 PMIt would be nice if someone could make a guide showing which wires to connect to get an Ave Pad 6 working with a PC-FX controller plug. Just to have a decent d-pad for the games which need it.
I think that you're going to actually need a circuit board for that ... the impression that I get from the PC-FX docs is that the joypad port is clocked-serial and not nibble-based like the PC Engine.

I'd love to be wrong on that, but I don't think that there are enough pins on it to do the full 2-way communication that it supports if it were using anything other than serial shift-registers.

A real hardware-guy could probably figure it out pretty quickly.
that reminds me........4bits=nibble
#215
they may look similure, but they dont feel it
these dont use a plastic backing, and instead both sides are FR4 fiberglass material, making them extremely sturdy and cold to the touch

Quote from: NightWolve on 05/03/2016, 10:58 PMIt's hard to believe working HuCards are in production again like this... Wonder about the factory they found to get these made, what it took behind the scenes, impressive all the way!
Pretty sure they are from here
https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=19848.0

Not sure how is making them though
i assure you they are not..............
i did the layout on them
#217
if the meter said you good, move on to checking those pins to the 6280
bad traces are about as common
#218
the ribbon cables break on those easily so that is likely
also common are trace and via corrosion (not always visible)
3rd option is chip failure (it happens)
#219
the data lines have pull up resistors and remain high without a card
#220
it gets a bit more complicated then that
the 6260 uses a Vref-lo and Vref-hi to set the top and bottom of the RGB output, so it can differ between systems, but generally doesnt
also the output rigidity of the 6260 is quite low making its output differ depending on what amp its driving
#221
i thought that was without card
pins4 and 30-32 concern me
#222
condition looks about average
got a logic probe? (or scope)
you need to run across the slot pins without the card and see what its doing
almost every pin should read high/low or pulse
#223
in the TE there is not enough room to fit that board as intended
it could be jumpered in, but that defeats the point
#224
as for run-select as reset, its a software reset and not supported in hardware
#225
no need for uC or menu rom for power cycle switching
a dual flip-flop and a few supporting parts will do it for 4 games
#226
lol, your welcome
everything i know about the duo was from going through them, finding the issues
seen that ram dead once
#227
it does look familure
#228
having done several TE with SMD ceramic and tantalum caps i assure you they dont add hum, they actually reduce it
#229
the ceramics have mostly replaced the aluminum in all but the largest values in modern electronics
ceramics were not available in larger values back then, and cost more per uF
even in the TE most filter aluminum caps have a ceramic across them to buffer the responsiveness of the cap
#230
the thumb print and text is etchings with plating underneath
#231
ok you have an issue with IC105, IC501, IC106 or the connections between
any or all
#232
i dont expect an adjustment to help
its getting no data back from the cd to the system
if you open the lid while its trying to load what happens?
#233
well thats a tough one, it sounds like the cd system is working
whats it do with a game
#234
well if some games run with errors it could be system card or base ram
dirty connections are always an option
#235
have you tried reseating the TG16 and CDR2?
#236
refusing to read lower tracks could be a lens issue (uncommon)
if it gets any noise while playing audio, it wont read data
#237
well the burn speed effects the required burn power
if you burn max speed for your burner, you have no headroom for burn calibration
#238
if you get it fixed/or it runs still and you want a housing i have a box of them
not sure if i have a set of screws tho, but i do have the shields as well
#239
dont recall
i think it was actually my first TG16
back in highschool
#240
whats crazy is i think that was once mine
if so i pried it apart around 93 as the RF mod died and i couldnt get the right screwdriver
i lost it about 4 years ago and it was a running unit
#241
and i have seen that a few times
start with audio CD
using the bios CD player watch the time/track and level displays as they are data read off cd
also do direct track seeks, and confirm it selects the correct track
selecting incorrect tracks is likely a trace between the 3 QFP closest to the front edge
incorrect displayed disc info is likely a trace between the CXD and IC501
no disc info is likely a dead CXD or IC501
#243
yes, look up simple OP-AMP circuits
check your grounds, check your input couplings, check your resistors between out and -in
you need to figure out whats pulling the - inputs up
#244
so the amp is working and something is pulling the inverting input out of range
#245
well i have a TurboExpress open with a 6280A in it

IMG
#246
well the system reads the TOC
then if the TOC shows data on track2 it starts buffering from track2
if it reads all as audio it has a problem in how TOC is read, but if it just doesnt load on game discs then it recognizes it but has issues buffering it
#247
foot notes on this issue
the DUO-R has a clutch to prevent this issue (which tells me NEC knew about it)
the CDR2 and super CDR2 are immune to it due to different sled drive designs
this happens when during a seek the laser loses focus causing it to lose count, when seeking near the outer track
this can be caused by disc defect, laser defect or having the focus gain set too low (pots)
#248
odds are you have an open via by the 10uf caps behind the heatsinks
#249
i wasnt aware of the sound difference
the versions are interchangeable on the boards
#250
either there is an issue with your YS CD or with the tracking sensing
it could be the pots but bad laser is more likely
burn a cd of ys and try again first
