the switchless works well on the express, because i can connect directly to the controller board.
it could be used on the duo based on the cd door switch.
other consoles will need a switch, or button added to control it, but it can be a very small button (single contact momentary)
it can also be controlled with the same switch as the old chip design.

we seek out the strange, uncommon, bizarre and we fix it

i was not around for the original issue, with the other ID, however the only issue i have had with your current one is the lying.

with no bolt bombs

back to CF2
start over as a girl in the future
#2807
disc caps rarely fail.
corrosion is much more likely
#2808
"Hmmm... I just looked at that ebay auction again... that looks to be the exact same drive, serial number and all Think"

your right it does
#2810
the stain is flux
it was used to help the solder flow during assembly.
it is slightly corrosive and should be removed
#2811
just remember the eisa video cards.
think of the "MODE 9" cards
#2812
the issues on the "'A' and 'B' control buttons" is typically due to tarnish on the turbo switches.
polish the switches and it should work much better
#2813
the TOC is what determines if its a music cd.
i suspect its getting a partial read of the TOC
#2814
it must be switched at the source, because changing the scan rate would require reproducing the sig from scratch.
that said i would expect a clock circuit for the HU chips, controls it, you just need to find it.
note that one of the china counterfit units has a 50-60 switch on it
#2815
the data buffer is in the drive itself.
if its spinning up its finding the TOC.
sequence
1 lens bobs up and down looking for its reflection.
2 reflection seen, lens resets to center of disk and disk spins to read TOC.
3 system reads TOC and tells drive which track to read.
4 lens moves from center towered edge counting tracks.
5 track found, data reading.
6 spindle speed adjusted as needed to keep data buffer memory full.
#2816
if the disk is spinning too fast it means its not tracking/reading.
the speed is controlled be a data buffer.
when the buffer is low it spins faster to read faster
#2817
just means you need to add the RGB amp  so the LD player uses the amped sig too
#2818
its true that bad disks are harder to focus, but i have never seen the focus system fail.
the laser failures I have seen are from laser fade, or failure (as in the light source fails), which would not be hastened by poor cd quality.

Quote from: Lum on 06/16/2011, 03:38 AMCan't we simply agree the U.S. model Duo was trash from the start and move on? A long history of trouble related to them as this topic shows without any doubt.
the "us duo" (black DUO) in some ways it better built than the -R/-RX (better board material)
NEC just got unlucky with a capacitor manufacturer.

yes please refer to the chips per designator, as the duo has multiple micro-controllers, processors, specialized processors ect.
a data flow chart could prove quite useful.
any pin data on the custom chips would be helpful, especially as it refers to usage

my pcfx finely arrived monday.
I bought this non working pcfx ages ago and just got it.
got it running last nite
#2822
not true
the pac supplied grafx will be superior with the mod and the LD supplied backgrounds are of lower quality as recorded.
so you wont be improving on the quality of the LD playback, only the game supplied portion.
#2823
so it depends on how well the vid decoder is tuned.
most of the later sets are great at it.
anything with a picture tube uses the required circuit.
#2824
the signal degradation of the LD (comp) output should be the same as any television using comp input.
the RGB overlay from the pac should be without degradation
#2825
seperating the comp back to RGB and mixing it is simple.
you just need a color decoder chip from an old tv to seperate the colors.
6 resistors to mix it.
an rgb amp to output it and your done.

that looks promising.
I will confirm when i get a chance.

PS did i buy a PC-FX from you? (I responded too late to a second chance offer, but bought it anyway)

that helps some by confirming what i had figured out regarding IC105.
what i found regarding IC106 is, during non cd play the data bits are active, but the addressing is not.
once the cd reads the chip starts addressing the ram.
on the unit with the prob the IC106 data lines are only active during cd read.

what i need is pin info on IC105, to determine if its data is being requested.
either the data request isn't making it to the chip or the chip is bad
#2828
when i was adjusting mine i had the same issues.
all the pots had to be close to get any CDR to read/load
i used an original/stamped cd and was able to get it to load with the pots near center.
i than slowly adjusted with a CDR till i had solid reads

how about U105 and U501 interaction
i believe U105 contains a bus switch function, that is not getting enabled.
the function is to read U106 onto another data bus.

i really need more info on U105.
from what i could see U106 is acting as a cd data cache by U105.
U105 takes serial data from the cd and directs it several places, including the main data bus.
i have one here that is not sending data from U106 to the data bus.
U106 is being written from the cd
#2832
it seems i remembered wrong.
mine is using one large chip.
that said it should be easy to figure out how it works
#2833
i need to fix 2 genni controllers
my kid chewed the cords
#2834
i just changed my 16V caps
leakage was present and the picture got more vivid
#2836
thats partially hydrogenated
#2837
please avoid duplicate threads
#2838
the battery cover could be hard to come by.
the sound is an easy fix
#2839
its a CBT3383 chip atached directly to the board
i have closer pics where i installed it in an express

partly true
a common low quality cable can cause image degradation, especially over longer runs.
a good audio cable is 75ohm rated as well.
as a rule any cable is acceptable under 5'
a good quality cable will be needed for lengths over 5'
#2842
if you want to fix it a replacement din plug is easy to install.
i have seen the pinout on here once, but im not sure which thread.
normal rca jacks would be a very easy mod.

the region mod is the same as any other TG16/PCE system
#2843
i can, chop can, beemer can.
likely others too.
look through this thread to see some of our work on the express.
#2844
if the spindle is pushed down it will have problems focusing.
#2845
i have heard of running android on the iphone.
mine is windows mobile 6.5, not android
#2846
HTC touch pro2.
custom built rom.
running on cricket
#2847
we could also do a 2 part circuit usind the switch chip on one board and another board to control it.
make it one peice that snaps apart if needed.
#2848
tiny is what we want.
space constraints have been the biggest install issues from what i have read.
#2849
the smaller package chip is about half the size and will easily fit both chips on one side
#2850
you could have a cutout in the board that the 4001 sits top down in, or use the smaller 3383 chip and put both on one side
