This is the Japanese limited edition release and it comes with PSP Game, Box, Character Pouch, Drama CD, Flier

Very fun game, a lot like Ys in my opinion.   I played through the translated version and am almost done.

Off-Topic / Hey it's Lent
02/15/2018, 12:30 PM
So Lent started yesterday and runs until Thursday, March 29.

Anyone here observe, traditional or otherwise?  I know there has been an upward trend of people doing "secular lent" and giving up various things for the period.  I guess Twitter is the most popular thing for people to give up for Lent this year.
#3
If so, can you please give me a compelling reason as to why?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1676714319/xeno-crisis-a-new-game-for-the-sega-genesis-mega-d/description

IMG

QuoteXeno Crisis is a new, original title for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis which will be released both as a physical cartridge and also as a downloadable ROM. At its core, it's an arena shooter that takes inspiration from the likes of Smash TV, Contra, Mercs, Granada, Alien Syndrome, Zombies Ate My Neighbours, Chaos Engine, and Shock Troopers.

We want the game to look, feel and sound like the classic Mega Drive games of the '80s and '90s, but also add some new elements that weren't so common in games of that era, particularly procedural map generation and randomisation of gameplay elements. Achieving that classic look and feel is vitally important to us, which is why we've teamed up with legendary pixel artist Henk Nieborg, who previously worked on the Mega Drive title "The Misadventures Of Flink", developed by Psygnosis.

We're also working with "Savaged Regime"; a highly renowned chip-tune artist that knows how to push the Mega Drive's YM2612 chip to the limit - you can hear a sample of the Xeno Crisis soundtrack in the Kickstarter video above.

The game is currently at the prototype stage and we will be releasing the finished product in October 2018 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Mega Drive's launch in Japan. We're launching this Kickstarter campaign to fund the remainder of the title's development.
Personally I think this looks really cool.  Thankfully they've already been fully funded in less than a week and have reached the first stretch goal for co-op play.

We still have a shitload of candy in my house since Halloween finished and I have been eating more of it than I should.  In that vein however:

Which is the best, and which is the worst, and which is like "ehhh, I'll eat it but it's not that great".

Snickers, Milky Way, and 3 Musketeers.

My order would be:

Snickers > 3 Musketeers > Milk Way

Personally I think Almond Joy/Mounds is the tops but that is another discussion.

So, 48 years ago Neil Armstrong was a part of human history by being the first human to step onto the surface of the moon.  Pretty amazing when you think about it, but it sucks that we haven't been back to the moon since 1972 which is over 40 years.

Do you think we'll manage to go past low earth orbit again in your lifetime?  Maybe back to the moon or another celestial body?

Buy/Sell/Trade / Dengeki G's Engine Issues
05/18/2017, 01:09 PM
ON HOLD

So I have two Dengeki G's Engine issues I really don't have much need/want for:

Issue #2 (7/1996) and Issue #7 (12/1996)

IMG

Was thinking $20 for the pair, if you're interested let me know.  They are in good shape but have some wear to them, I think one from December 96 has a crease on the corner of the front. Just the books, though they do each still have the "18+" supplements to them as well which look like the last picture below inside the magazine.  Each magazine is just under 200 pages in length.

Konami has announced Bombergirl for Japanese arcades.

Described as a four-player cooperative battling title, the game obviously drops the Bomberman theme for a totally moe one filled with girls. It's also worth mentioning it seems like there's clothing destruction, because why not.

Apparently this is what they've decided to do with the Hudson IPs.  Huzzah   ](*,)

Off-Topic / Dash Cameras
01/11/2017, 03:41 PM
I have had a decent daily commute and have been cut off or almost run into a number of times over the years and was debating picking one of these up.

Does anyone here use or used a dash cam?  Suggestions or complaints or just a waste of money?

I bought a bundle of stuff recently and wound up with a number of duplicates and games I don't want/need so I figured I would post them up if anyone is interested.  All games are CIB and in nice shape with no to a couple light scratches.

Prices are general estimates I came up with and do not include the shipping cost.  If you're buying multiple things I can discount to bring price down a bit.  If there's not a lot of interest I'll probably just take them to the local game store and trade them in.

SOLD

Okay, so this is a weird bundle.

I've got:
1 Blue Justifier for Genesis

1 Lethal Enforcers for Genesis (Cart, Manual, Poster, and in a universal game case with custom artwork.  Artwork is sized to fit in a genesis clamshell if you want to swap later when you get it)

1 Lethal Enforcers for MegaCD (This is the JP release, everything is in beautiful shape and comes with reg card)

1 Lethal Enforcers II Gun Fighters for SegaCD.  (Has original longbox with back insert, but only the front cover of the instruction manual.  Disc has moderate scratching but no pinholes that I saw and works perfectly fine when I tested it.  Longbox is great shape, front has no cracks and both
hinges, back has no cracks but has a long scratch along one side.)

PICTURES:

Asking $45 plus shipping but if you're interested feel free to send me an offer as well.  Will also consider trades I guess, I'm mainly looking for Dreamcast/SMS/Genesis stuff.

I had seen this article linked on another site and just finished reading through it, enjoyed it quite a bit and figured I'd share.

QuoteYou may not know Kentaro Ohnishi, and he's okay with that. Today he's a programmer at Vanillaware, and one of director George Kamitani's trusted associates - but it hasn't always been this way. He has his own story to tell about where he began, his inspirations, and how playing Starcraft on lunch breaks can end up being a foot in the door.

SOLD!
I have for sale a complete in box NEC PC-FX unit to help make your life complete.

IMG

The unit comes with an original box, paperwork, composite cables, controller.  Also included are two games: Welcome to Pia Carrot (has obi) and and Ah My Goddess (has reg card only), all discs looks nice and minty.  I will also include burned copies of the translated Pia Carrot and the translated Zeroigar as well.  I've tested them for awhile and they seem to work fine.

Extra details:
Unit has a bit of yellowing but nothing too outrageous, I really never noticed it until I was comparing to to the controller which seems a bit brighter.

Also, when playing the original disc of Pia Carrot the opening intro movie seemed to stutter a bit, however when I was playing the burned disc I didn't have the same problem.  Not sure if there is something wrong with the pressed disc, but it looks flawless.  Just want to be up front about it.  The FMV openings for Ah My Goddess and Zeroigar (burn) seem to play perfectly fine too.

Asking $250 USD + Shipping

I discovered I had an extra of these and am just looking to get rid of it.  This is a drama CD, and there is a comic in the booklet and then it's like a story being acted out on the CD.  I was thinking like $10 plus shipping, it's in great shape by the way.  Shoot me a PM if interested or wanting to make an offer.

The local gaming store near me has Jack Nicklaus Golf for the Turbo CD new and sealed in their case for $60.  I personally have no desire for the game but I'm wondering if anyone here has any interest in it?

It sounds like it's a decent deal based on what some folks were talking about, so if you are interested and are someone I know/has rep I'd be willing to pick it up and for you and re-ship at cost.

It looked like it was in decent shape from what I saw, some slightly crushing and sun damage though.

It seems like a new press campaign, but it looks like Toyota has anthropomorphized the components of their Prius as anime styled characters.  This seems to be a big trend recently ever since the Sega Hard Girls took off and are doing quite well.

Here's a launch video, entertaining enough to watch:
And they've got a whole section of their website devoted to the girls:

Well, about 3 years ago I won a raffle from T2KFreeker for SFII on the PCE and have enjoyed it immensely, however I finally got my mitts on a complete copy of the game so I am re-raffling the original loose HuCard that I got from him back in 2012.

I'm going to let it run until the end of the month, August 31st, and choose a winner then.

Since I'm sure a number of folks may have this already, I'm setting a minimum post count of just 50 as requirements for entry. I will ship free of charge to anywhere in the US, if you're international you are free to enter as well though if you win I may ask for a couple bucks if shipping to you is super ridiculous in price.

I'm finally trying to clear out some Sega CD games!

Many CIB, most cases have some cracks/damage but everything looked like it is in good shape.  If you express interest in something I will obviously look at it and give you a better description and can provide photos, I just didn't have time right now to do so. Each game booted up fine and I played each game for a bit just to make sure they work.

Priority will go to people buying multiples.  If you want to buy the whole lot, well godbless and I will work with you to make a good deal.

CIB
Power Monger    9
Fahrenheit   12
Ecco the Dolphin 7
Silpheed   15

Prices are before shipping, and I will pack it just like you want (box or bubble mailer) and only charge exactly how much it costs me to ship it. I think I priced everything okay, but if you think my prices are out of whack well shoot me an offer.  If I check and something is considerably worse condition we can discount the price as well.

I also got some duplicate Mega CDs left to move after completing my set of Japanese exclusives.   If there are ones you're looking for let me know.

Disclaimer: I am an incredibly slow seller sometimes when it comes to details and replying, but if you have paid I will do my best to ship out ASAP.

Oh, and I've got one more thing for sale still:

So, I have a handful of LaserDisc movies that are rather nice versions and haven't been converted to DVD that I would like to capture using a higher end laptop (i7/16GB RAM).  Has anyone done something like this before and if so do they have any recommendations and/or processes.

Most of the movies are older and do not have a fancy audio track, just stereo so I'm not sure if that changes much.  Looking to not spend a ton of money on the hardware if possible.

It seems like s-video is normally touted as a better choice for capture normally, but from what I read LD is natively stored as composite.  So, maybe I would be better served just getting the composite and doing the filtering later on a software side and encoding it?

I'd love to hear from folks if anyone has opinions or has done something like this.

Some of you may all remember Victor Ireland, the dude who ran Working Designs.  His new company, Gaijinworks has been localizing some titles and striving to produce physical versions whenever possible for people who want to own a copy.

Well, he recently got the rights to Summon Night 5 from Namco-Bandai and will be translating and publishing a version if possible.  Also on the docket in the eventual future is Class of Heroes 3 to complement the physical versions of Class of Heroes 2 for PSP and Class of Heroes 2G for PS3 they published.

EDIT:
You can preorder this now! - You can preorder this now! - You can preorder this now! - You can preorder this now!
http://www.gaijinworks.com/SN5_presale_live.htm

Included stuffs:
QuoteYou are purchasing a digital reservation voucher code that entitles you to a physical copy of the Summon Night 5 LE which includes:

Case with multi-sided cover insert
UMD with custom art (may be different than shown)
Full-color game manual
Giant 14"x19" poster (one of two randomly inserted shown)
Full Summon Night 5 Original Soundtrack CD (OST)
North America PSN (only) digital download code, good for free download
Serial Numbered Holographic Seal
Remember, when this is fulfilled you will get a PSN code for a digital copy AND a physical copy of the game.  This means you can still play the game even if you are dumb like me and never want to open the case.

Also, payments are through Amazon so if you have an Amazon account this is super easy.

PREORDERS CLOSE ON SEPTEMBER 7TH AT 12:59 PM PST!

---OLD STUFF---

So, are you interested in buying a copy?  Then go over to http://www.gaijinworks.com/ and fill out the interest poll on the homepage.  You are not buying or paying for anything now, it's just a form to gauge interest. If enough people sign up saying they would like to buy copies, then the production process will get underway and the email address you use will already be signed up to to be notified when the preorders start.

Remember, YOU'RE NOT PAYING ANYTHING NOW, it's just to get an idea on how many people would like to have copies.  I personally like to have physical copies in hand over digital stuff you don't really ever own, hence my support for this project.

Nintendo just released this pretty funny video promoting upcoming stuff, but they also mention they're going to do a Nintendo World Championship this year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original back in 1990.
(video embedding seems to be broken because it looks like the forum is using the Youtube v2 API)

And a bit more in depth discussion at Polygon:

This seems pretty awesome, I wonder how many people will show up for the prequalifiers and such.

Just got an email from ebay, blah blah:
http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/springupdate2015/fees-and-features.html

I have a hard time understanding it all, but starting May 1 it looks like they're reducing (maybe eliminating?) the number of free listings that a person gets per month unless they've got a store.  Hopefully, this means people will stop throwing up $300 Bonk 3 manuals or other stupid VGA shit at ridiculous buy it now pricing for perpetuity.

Impressions?  Or do I just lack reading comprehension?

Is anyone else seriously concerned about the current trend of people not vaccinating their children?

The whole premise that decades of science are being voluntarily abandoned because people are afraid of unproven (or disproven depending on what you read) effects really worries me.  I've got a kiddo that's almost 2 and has been vaccinated up to her age group, but the kind of things that are happening now like with the Disneyland outbreak seem crazy for this day in age.

General Gaming / People with Amiiboners...
01/07/2015, 11:36 AM
Seriously what is the deal with these things.  It seems like they are Skylanders/Disney Infinity but with people going crackhead crazy over them.

I saw a couple defect ones have gone for thousands of dollars, and people are regularly paying like 5X time the retail price for some of them on ebay.

On a couple local Faceboook gaming groups I follow like half of it is filled up with Amiibo talk, and I regularly see people going to stores and completely buying out the stock, it's insane.

Does anyone here collect these?  I was going to buy the Xenoblade one but apparently preorders for it were sold out like over a month before release.

I have 2 copies of Power League, however one of them has this crazy looking sticker on the case.

I can read 88, Caravan, and Soft (software) on the sticker but I'm not sure as to the overall message.
Discussion in chat leads me to believe it is probably just a sticker advertising it as the caravan title for that year, but a full translation of the sticker from anyone who is good at kanji would be appreciated.

So Sega announced awhile ago that an anime adaptation of Sega Hard Girls, the project that anthropomorphizes Sega game hardware into 17 beautiful girls, was green-lit and the first episode is up on CrunchyRoll for free streaming.

Here's a bit of new on the Anime itself and what the girls/hardware look like:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-04-10/sega-hard-girls-project-with-hatsune-miku-kei-inspires-anime

And here's a link to the anime for free streaming via PC on CrunchyRoll
http://www.crunchyroll.com/hi-scool-seha-girls

Episodes are only about 10 minutes each, and if you are a fan of Sega hardware and history you will probably find this at least relatively entertaining with all the funny cameos of games and such.

Enjoy!

Sounds like physical media's swan song will not be the blu-ray, there is a new optical media disc in the works!

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201403/14-0310E/

From the article:
QuoteTokyo, Japan - March 10, 2014 - Sony Corporation ("Sony") and Panasonic Corporation ("Panasonic") today announced that they have formulated "Archival Disc", a new standard for professional-use, next-generation optical discs, with the objective of expanding the market for long-term digital data storage*.

Optical discs have excellent properties to protect themselves against the environment, such as dust-resistance and water-resistance, and can also withstand changes in temperature and humidity when stored. They also allow inter-generational compatibility between different formats, ensuring that data can continue to be read even as formats evolve. This makes them robust media for long-term storage of content. Recognizing that optical discs will need to accommodate much larger volumes of storage going forward, particularly given the anticipated future growth in the archive market, Sony and Panasonic have been engaged in the joint development of a standard for professional-use next-generation optical discs.

Both Sony and Panasonic aim to launch systems with a recording capacity of 300 GB per disc from summer 2015, onwards. In addition, both companies plan to leverage their respective technologies to further expand the recording capacity per disc to 500 GB and 1 TB.

Up for sale is a copy of Arc the Lad Collection and Hint Guide For Playstation 1.  The outer box has some bending damage to it, I can provide more pictures for the buyer if they want.  But other than that the game discs and everything are in very nice shape.    Everything is complete, especially the omake box.  The omake has all 4 covers, unopened standees, memory card holder, and even the original tissue paper.  Hint guide looks like new.

The price is $65, plus whatever shipping costs to your location are.  I know this all fits nicely into a medium flat rate and that costs about $12 to ship.  Just a note, the hint guide is big and heavy so that adds to the overall weight.

Namco Bandai Announcement Trailer
Short Peace - Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day - Trailer

Official JP Trailer (slightly longer)
Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day - Official Trailer

SHORT PEACE is the highly acclaimed anime movie compilation featuring works by legendary anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo and includes four stellar short films. The fifth and final part of the whole collection is a 2D side-scrolling action video game called Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day, which was directed by Goichi Suda (Suda51) of Grasshopper Manufacture and developed by Crispy's Inc. (Tokyo Jungle)

It was just announced that Namco Bandai will localize this for the US the other day but this one looks pretty interesting to me! Looks like a frenetic platformer/run and gun with a touch of maid complex or something.

The other parts of Short Peace look pretty good too, I may have to look them up.

I've got a Pioneer LD-717 Laserdisc player, which is an older model Pioneer player I picked up from a thrift for a good price a couple years back.

When I first got it it would play LDs without any issues, now there seems to be some problem getting the discs to start.  When I pulled it out the closet the other night and set it up, it played the LD perfectly fine the first time I tried it.  Then when I tried with a different disc I got the distinctive clicking shown in this video, then it happened with just about any disc that was put in.

I think is is a problem with getting the disc to start spinning, because if you let it sit there long enough it appears to go to a black video screen that never changes.

Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated!

PS-Apologies for my narration, it was pretty much done on the fly.

So I was reading the Hyrule Historia last night and I came across a section that talks about concept ideas for characters that were considered in Skyward Sword but abandoned.  Imagine my surprise when I saw the following concept as one they had thought about!

Skyward Sword Potion Brothers Concept Sketch

The VERY FIRST thing I thought of was Ai Cho Aniki with Samson and Adon.  Was some designer at Nintendo influenced by the game maybe?  Or are buff brothers like a trope that is commonly used in Japan?

PS-My apologies for the crappy pic, I took it with my phone and tried to brighten it up a bit.  It's odd how the moire effect occurs even when using a phone.

This article was a very neat read on the development they did for the new 3DS classic Sonic game.

Apparently one of the things they had to do to build the new 3D versions of the games they released was make a beefed up MegaDrive concept they called the GigaDrive and build out additional effects using the extra specs.  In one part they actually liken it to the SuperGrafx actually.   Not to spoil the article, but a lot of what it does is adding a z-index to many of the different planes in the game.

There's another cool part where they talk about trying to add in the spin dash for Sonic (since the original didn't have it) and they wound up having to do all sorts of crazy legwork.

Overall, it's worth the time to read, despite being Feka :P

Off-Topic / Ys: The Art Book
11/14/2013, 05:56 PM
http://www.amazon.com/Ys-The-Book-Falcom-Nihon/dp/1927925010/

Celebrating over 25 years of Ys, the flagship series of Japanese RPG publisher Nihon Falcom! Ys: The Art Book collects the fantastic artwork of more than a dozen titles in the Ys franchise, from the original game all the way up to the brand-new Ys: Memories of Celceta. Includes pinups, character designs, rare concept art, and more!

Current price is only about $30 with a size of about about 280 pages.  This looks pretty slick to me, but I am a sucker for art books!  According to other info I've seen though it actually releases on Jan 1, 2014.

So I've probably got around 15-20 clear DVD cases that are pretty close to brand new condition.  I don't have much need for them and was wondering if someone else might want them?  I was thinking like 15c each for them plus whatever shipping would be.  I've used some of them for my own loose games and they're pretty sturdy, I just don't need this many.

Here is an example picture for what most of them look like:

SOLD!

I'm selling one LaserActive game here today: Virtual Cameraman

All games I sell are tested and work fine in my LaserActive with a S-10.  Shipping is not included in the price, but if you're in the US it should be about $5 if shipped media with tracking, priority is about $9 I think.  Everything will be sent in nice vinyl shipping boxes to protect them during transit.

If you are interested, please PM me.  I am on PCEFX, Sega16, DigitalPress.

Virtual Cameraman - $SOLD!
Comes with Disc, Sleeve, Instruction Insert, Anketto/Reg Card, and protective resealable poly bag.
Overall everything is in very nice shape, and looks very close to new in my opinion.  There are also a few very light and very small scratches on the disc.  They are very hard to see but I wanted to make sure it was still mentioned.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madoverlord/bubblegum-crisis-ultimate-edition-blu-ray-set

EDIT: FULLY FUNDED!  IT'S ALL GRAVY FROM HERE ON OUT!

QuoteAnimEigo founder Robert J. Woodhead started a Kickstarter funding campaign for a North American Blu-ray Disc release of Bubblegum Crisis on Friday.

The campaign would aim to release an "Ultimate Edition" of the eight-episode Bubblegum Crisis original video anime series. The basic goal would start at US$75,000 and include includes the series itself, the HD-recut Hurricane Live 2032/2033 Bubblegum Crisis animated music videos, and the upconverted live-action music video "The Holiday in Bali" on two region-free BD50 Blu-Ray discs. The package will bundle five postcards from MegaTokyo and a custom Commemorative Challenge Coin with supporter-assisted designs.

Supporters ? regardless if they buy the set ? can access "a downloadable Omake (Extras) Archive that will contain all the static bonus materials we have, including program notes, song lyrics, translated interviews with the original creators, and high-resolution color artwork and line-art (settei)" in both HTML and PDF formats. Supporters at the $10 level or higher will also receive the five Megatokyo postcards. Other pledge levels include "Night Night Knight Sabers" Satin Pillowcase, set of Metal Figures, Nene garage kit, original production cels, Boomer+AD Police model, and MotoSlave models with riders, but most have already been taken.

I know we've got some anime fans here, so this looked cool enough to share.  It also looks like they've got good traction since as of posting here they're at like 57k out of the 75k needed.  However, sadly pretty much all the high tier ones with the sweet promos are already gone :(  I'll still probably throw some cash down on it though!
