you guys are some charitale people,  i would do the same but  never won something so cheap like that before. i hope you guys are still that giving. the last turbo game i need to buy before i am done forever is up and i just hope im not sniped out  :-({|=  because i would like to finish my collecting, and continue playing  but not have to worry about anymore ebaying  [-o<
#102
i always considred beyond shadowgate to be an RPG, unless you come from the school of though that RPS must have hit points.i am not. with that you can add loom to the list. and some others
#103
wasnt TZD counting down the number of turbo expresses they had and were screaming how they would be gone forever once they are gone??

i wonder if they would ever dig up some other games that were 'found'
#104
but riot zone can be had for about 5$ on ebay. i think ebay maybe extended the life of tzd and without it none of those games would still be in stock. except for lords of thunder the games they have left arent very good and worth the full price when they can be had for less, way less.
#105
the first time i played riot zone i beat it! i thought  it would be like final fght. it sort of was but i never saw a game that was that easy before
#106
yea i would like to know the amount of sales for he tg 16base system. cd add on duo and express as well as top selling and worst selling games
#107
i agree! there are some people on ebay who keep buying up everything!  once i buy my ONE copy, that is it, i dont need to keep buying every copy of everygame ever made. considering that people like, oh i dont know, mydogsrule, just seems to want to own 10 billion games it raises the prices on the rest of us! what does this guy do for a job? did he win the lottery or something??

i wonder if we would just send emails to some of thee people begging that we are simply collectors who want to collect and just leave this aucion alone for once. would that even work?
#108
well i have a spare controller if you are still looking for one
#109
you can just go thru the webpage to find these magazines, but all the pages themselves of the  later issues  link to nothing :(
#110
but that only means that the store had darkwing duck in stock at the same time as bonk 3 it does not prove the order of what came out at what time .
#111
i never got past 6-3 on this game. it surely is tough!
#112
so then what would it take to get TZD to start reprinting more CDs? mabe with the succes of the wii VC then maybe we could see some new CDS hit the street
#113
id love to see some of that merch! or buy it!
#114
johnny turbo was in the back pages of EGM if you didnt read it fo 2 or 3 monhs in 93 then you missed it. but it was no big deal

really the turbo duo was a victim of bad timing. in 93 knowing the 32 bits were on the way and with people already owning a snes genesis (or TG16!) of ou already but 200 or 300 bucks on something last year why dump 300 bucks on somthing then dump another 300 a year or 2 later?  and those who did probably bought a sega CD anyways.  maybe they could have just re released the CD ROM2 wit the 3.0 card and the games thrown in for $200 it could have sold a few more. but i still remind everyone who neer knew and even thouse who do, that nintendo's poliies were still largely in effect preventing success anywhere else. sega got lucky but signing up 3rd parties not on with nintendo and that was that! maybe the turbo duo should have had 20 pack in games! that would be sweet!!
#115
and world sports comp has a copyright date of 1992!

so who is the person who worked at TTI? and what was the last day of TTI? Mrch 2, 1994? April 17 1994?  it could be any day, but i have a feeling TZD was started officially the day after TTI shut down.

i would wager it to be bonk 3, for the turbochips.

damn it to hell that i had to throw away  all my VG and CE , my mom thought it would catch fire and our brand new house would be gone forever.

but i recall a small blurb there where turbochips were being rebraned as 'duosoft' starting with bonk 3. bonk 3 is also the first last and only game to adopt the TTI DUO style packaging with the artwork bordered around the TTI logo on the bottom and hucards on the side. also looking at japan bomberman 93 is vol 56 and bonk 3 is vol 58 this likely pins it as the final usa card game.

with the same packaging only a handful of games were made this way on CD. they are

beyond shadowgate
bonk 3 cd
dungeon explorer 2
dungeon mastre therons quest
dynastic hero
godzilla
madden
might and magic 3
riot zone
sherlock holmes 2
super air zonk
terraforming

so its automatically narrowed down to these if you believe the TTI labeling was the last batch of games. its my opinion that the last few were also made in severly low numbers. games  still available at turbo zone direct, i believe are not the last ones because many more are still available.

sherlock holmes 2 is labled as a CD and super CD. terraforming, a listed by pcecp.com lso has the feature, but its not on the case as such. the last true cd rom2 only game has to be buster bros. as it has a copyright date of 1993.

the only printed proof of an release dates i have seen recently was i found a scan of EGM from 1993 that lists beyond shadowgate as released in 1993. while this may have changed, its the only solid evidence i have seen of any games. (yea i could speculate on all the things i remember but in not lionel hutz where heresay and conjecture are kinds of evidence.)

these links are here

the second one dos not hae a date listed on the magazine but it is next to a 3do games which means it must have been after  10/93.

i have seen some text transcripts of egm reviews and they have reviewed all the games it looks like, i think VG and CE did too, as for gamepro, who knows and who cares, and i think die hard game fan may have had some too. so if anyone has acces to these magazines they can crack the secret.

TZD had  put on their page at one point that bonk 3 cd  was put out in dec 94, by them not TTI and dead of the brain was the last NEC game as a ppoint of reference as to when it all stopped. bonk 3 cd also had no japanese release.  i you want to call it that you can, but it was not truly officially TTI.  out of the blue i would say it is dynastic hero as it has the highet catalog number. maybe 12-93 or anytime in 1994

also that page has some inaccuracies. the final snes game was yoshis story in 98 (unless i am wrong) N64 was powepuff girls or madden for that year and for PSX its also madden as or atari 2600 it not secret quest, is sentinnel in 1990. he also seems to mix up last games produced and last for sale. and there is also the matterof japan or euopean releases for places where systems still have/had life

i alo heard that the owner of JTS  was no older than 24 at the time JTS went under. i wonder what both sides were thinking when that sale went down.
#120
yea the point get across. why do you need to review gamesthat you already know what they are.

but i hink a non verb "fuck" doesnt ever make anything more funny. it just gets added in to seem more edgy then becomes defacto that you must do it.

now if it was  verb "fuck" where he says "it is fucking  pacman!" where as some review came to life and started giving the business to packy, then THAT would be funny
#121
im glad to see othr people hate this stupid thing too!  there is no real joke, just an obvious statement that is turned into some screaming rant.

or it follows the patter of  "dude", "yeah..."  which is not only unfunny but extremely pointless!  i feel like its some mesage board overloaded with trolls that someone decided to draw pictures to!

the whle "dude, yeah" thing kind of works on a tv show like  sealab 2021, but only because it is so cleverly written and appropriate in that kind of context becaus people actually talk like that. but then the same legion of fans, who dont fully get the joke, start to make their own crappy productions of whatever with non jokes and it comes offlooking like crap because they speant 5 minutes thinking it up.

of course onetme i brought this idea up in a convesation with some people from gen Y and they all  freaked out on me, like i was some old timer who complained about bellbottoms and long hair and not being hip or with it.

i think the internet has destoryed all creativity filters. of course im not trying to stop free speech, as everyone thinks i want when i say this, but the internet has really lowered the bar on what passes for entertainment. simply because anyone can do it. true it has allowd SOME things to come out of the dark that canbe enjoyed, butid say 90% of it garbage. just look at youtube. with people who edit videos to other peoples music using only JPEGS and painshop text to try and tell something. maybe peny arcade gets cred because its actualy drawn somewhat OK. but these kind of things have NO value! maybe people eat it up because it is worthless, and unlike the paper, the radio the tv who have  controls in place to keep quality high (yes it is  to make alot of money too, duh) but still most eveything in real media beats  stupid my space, you tube, blogs and webcomics everyday for the rest of time

also dont comic strips usually have some backgrounds?
#122
by turbo came with keith and jj & jeff. it was in the $49.99 days. so could have been tti, the store or just my mom throwing it in the box.

yea what you talking about?  atari wasnt bought by the govt!  they got sold to JTS who literally threw out age of atari history in the dumpster then went under, scooped up by hasbro, wo made those 3d pong remakes. then sold off to infogrames who i think is doing OK with the name and at least keeping atari in the social consciousness by putting out flashback 1 and 2. its better than letting it totally dissapear.

the one good ting is the rights to develop jaguar games is now open to the  public!

and the govt was interest in atari after battlezone

Skullmonkeys, Castlevania, Johnny Bazookatone, the Strider port, Gunner's Heaven, a whole horde of SHMUPS and fighters...
yea i forgot about castlevania! i was asleep when i made that post anyways!  then theres  alot of fighters yes, and games like r-types and thunerforce v.  but even if the total of (original, not remade) 2 d  games for the PS was 100 it would be a drop in the bucket compared to all the other games they had.

i think being a jaguar fan is like that of wrestling

if you believe in it, no eplaination is needed. if you dont, no explanation will ever do.
#127
i prefer both old games and new. 2d and 3d  are bth fine but  i just cant stand games that you have to stop and have everything explained or walked thru for you every 5 minutes, and it seems to happen alot more with newer games, which happen to be 3d,  which is why i am gugingly playing thru zelda the twightlight princess, and everytime i think the game FINALLY starts moving, i have to stop, read, do some stupid step by step horsecrap, read some more. man its frustrating,,,,

i think alot of eople were turned off by 3d because  the transition from 2d to 3d was not as gradual as it should have been, and sony sort of force started it byt requiring ALL ps games to start being 3d, whch in turn made everyone else have to catch up. you start to see experimentations into 3d starting in 91 and 92 and if the saturn , jaguar, n64 and playstation would have been 2d out of the box with a slow transition to 3d (at least saturn and jaguar had those intentions!) it would have given developers alot more to time to perfect how 3d works, and alot of garbage 3d games would have never been made. but because psx is 3d out of the gate, suddenly eveyone has to be 3d too and i hink not everyone was prepared for it,  the only 2d games i can think of  for psx are rayman and klonoa and megaman x. were there any others?

so maybe if 3d started getting more into full swing around th time of the ps2 people would not be as bitter about it as they are, i can understand coz i played that crap too!  plus  i fel that we were robbed of expriencing endless 2d platforming with 16.7 mllion colors, as was my dream growing up!
#128
i was hoping my comments would not spark a discussion about what series is better than what. but rather about if the mainstream popularity of anime would have helped the TG 16, if it would have happened just a little earlier.  or would have  NWC not ben able to do 1+1 and not try to cash in like they didnt do anyways,
#129
i can sort of see why as different countries require different standards for electronics, as well as different tv standardes, but thatage is finally ending. thanks god

but what get me really mad these days is locking of downloadable content, name the wii and xbox 360 making sure you can only get content from where you live. its just a damn file! let us have it if we want it!

if a dark horse system were to ever come out again, to toally region free it might be the way to make some headroom.
#130
youre right about the sports freaks, i think sports games are fine, but i could never buy nfl, nhl, nba, mlb year after year forever!  of corse the PSX did sort of finally offer an 'all things to all people' mentality. it was almost like a PC with its variety and good to garbage ratio. i am sure that if the 16 bit generation were today, or the anime/otaku movement caught on 10 years before it did *** then it would have had a better chance. but if you ask me otaku fandom is just as loud and annoying and mindless as sports andom. if you  look at the timeline of gams  systems were loaded with elaborate stuff early on and as time went on the got stripped away .  atari gave you sticks paddles and a game. intellivision and coleco gave you  add ons and games, nintendo gave the robot the gun or the. power pad. sega and nec (burn me if you want) started the whole one controller thing, which no everyone does, and i personally hate. now you only get a demo disc if that, save for the wii. but oncepeople realized  you could save money by limiting thee things, knowing people will buy them anyways there went the fun.  but truly only super mario bros, and maybe sonic were the only pack ins that i would consider hot must have games that moved a system. the rest were just there to give you somehing to play.

also note that no console that did not have the annual sports gave has never reached mainstream popularity in america. i think that says it all about the kind of games people want here. or at least tha kind of game that will motivate alot of people to go buy something just to play the same thing over and over.

***i do believe that anime  was viable at least 20-25 years ago a was evident with such great shows as battle of the planets and robotech and etc, but it did not reach mainstream (read: annoying fans who only like it because its suddenly the in-trend thing to like)  till after the TG was long gone, i think.

of course in my young days anime fandom was about appreciating quality, realisistic, dramatic animation that you couldnt find in the US.  not about being a bunch of  whiny losers who cant get any because they spend their whole life walled up in their rooms with a manga in one hand and a bag of corn chips in the other while dreaming of someday finding some perfect cat like girl french maid butler, wishing they were japanese so someone would finally understand them.
#131
i always find good deals on yahoo japan! but its true without a japanese bank account, its almost impossible. paypal and ebay have yet to penetrat japan, i doubt they ever will,  i have talked with people here that have NEVER heard of ebay.

on the other side yahoo auctions in the us is running its final auctions this week :-({|=
#132
youre right too! knowing now that they kne all along to take the loss on the xbox, create it mainly jut so that the 360 coud be lanched and start to turn a profit, they coudl have really done anything.  i think the 360 is  much sleeker looking and the live arcade seems o be a good deal. but honestly i have never actually plaxed either xbox ever.

lame because you see it in the the eyes of 2007. plus  retconning history and console bashing go hand in hand on message boards no matter where you go.  youll always see the same things said by people probably not even involved n gams back then, whether its jaguar sucks, gamecube was a failure,  e.t. was the worst videogame ever made, final fantasy 7 was the best game ever made, and so on...

but to buy this thing in 1993 like i did, and watch that was entertaining. back then  a boot screen as a novelty and i was surprised it even had one. but it was cool to me then and now

also you can spin and shrink the little cat box as well.
#134
when i saw the first xbox commercial and then its release in stores i just stoodback and said. 'well its over'

what was over you ask? the days of alternative gaming, or niche systems and titles.

with M$ in the game along with sorny and ninyendo  there would truly never be anymore room to have a dark horse company develop a new system, much like our own beloved TG 16, but also other things that used to pop up, cd-i, 3do,  vectrex, neogeo and etc. not all of them may have been great or very widespread but they were able to capure a sliver to keep going. now no more. since then only the n-gage has tried, and failed. but thats a hand held anyways.  phantom and other vapor ware has nevr seen the light of day where as maybe with only 1 dominant company we may have seen these, but with in essence a 3 way tie (even if  'losing' the generation means selling a paltry 20 million)  the chance to be the one to be the next hot thing is split even further.  i doubt if we will ever see a new console outside the big 3

as for titles, M$ bled the red white and blue, i epected and was right about endless ports titles and shooters as well as the endless  ports of movie and tv based games. not that football and halo are terrible, but they do lead to 100 copycats of which most of those are terrible, though they sell. it means les  R and D for games that go off the beaten path. i am not talking about otaku wet dream repetitive cutsey RPG that isnt very good to start with (read: mother) but just any game that turns a genre on its ear like REZ or a game of great quality that wont sell alot of numbers, but will recoup its losses (working designs) its the same for  M$ and sorny. for sorny the PS1 had such a diverse library, which i belive alowed them to be the new (then?) top dog. but compared to PS2 the variation in titles is half or less. probably to stay competitive in the american market against the XTREEEEEME XBOX DUDE!!

as for ninyendo, they are so up their butts with  'quality control' so few games came out as is (like n64) and while it had some great games, very few were  truly original and many were delayed as is.

it also meant that consoles would finally be locked into some sort of release pattern. if you start from the nes, you have the nes in 85 , sms and 7800 in 86.  but then you have the genesis and tg16 in 89, while the nes is still hot, snes in 91, 3d0 and jag in 93, saturn and ps in 95  n 64 in 96  dreamcast in 99 and ps2 in 2000. theres a large gap of years between the definate end of one generation and the start of the next,  now we see  xbox 360 in 05 and wii / ps3 in 06.  all 4-5 years past the last release, and all very close to each other. never again will a company wait 2-3 years while comparable technology is already for sale by the competition (though the ps3 almost did!) so gone are the days of leapfrogging as well.

it also took away insteresting packaging too. now all games are in DVD cases with the systems name on top. like there was a caucus held on uniformity in game packaging.

these are things  i saw the xbox doing, for good or for bad

as for japan thinking they own the world, while they were busy cranking out a billion famicoms, apple and microsoft  were making sure every computer in used would have an OS made in the USA. and it seriously bugs the crap out of them that they missed the boat.

i still have 6 credits to go on a masters degree. would hae finished but got bad health problems that sidelined me to take a W, they would NOT give me an incomplete! bastards! anyways the next semester came around and those classes werent offered again! same for summer and or fall of that year. well, bills come in and they need paid so i went looking for work. i will go back at some point especialy because i only need a C and my GPA will still be good enough to graduate.  i have begged for an online class or some kind of equivalency to just finish it, but no. they wont budge.

my sister is going into 12th grade this fall.i started school in 83 and she will finish in 08! ihad 3 brothers in between that that is 25 years of b.s. school buses, lunch money and other various horse s. my parents have had to deal with. real troopers!

i did not go to the 10 year reunion, even though a letter  about it reached my mom somehow and she managed to reply back saying i was a big gaijin tarento in tokyo, which im sure had to impress or at least get a 'what the' out of eveyone who went.

of course playing atari reminds me of being in grade school , nes reminds me of junior high. turbo grafx  and jaguar reminds me of high school and i actually didnt own anything  current in college until i bought a dreamcast and playstation but i was practically finished by then.
#136
i thought it was  good deal and it showed off the power of the duo, as well as  allowing an already decent build up of games. i think in 92 93 or 94  ys was still a decent game that didnt seem dated.

pack ins are desperately needed again today!
#137
so i found me a  gameboy advance sp with a pokemon theme with the torchic pokemon, only cost about $30 so i thought it was a good deal.

but i cant even find the level of rarity that this sysem has. i have never seen one before and there are none on ebay to gauge the average price.

anyone ever findone of these? or know its true worth?
#138
Quote from: Seldane on 05/20/2007, 10:10 AMYou count stuff like Mario Sunshine and Galaxy but not New Mario? Why?
i only dont consider new SMB as part of the main series because it is on the DS and not on a main console like the others. if it mustbe counted then so shouldnt all the mario/wario lands and etc?   i dont think that monst of those games are up to the standard of the other games. plus all the advnce serie are just remakes, it ets into a tricky  way of classifying things
#139
there was one on ebay last week. mangled box no manual, sold for about 300
#140
how can it be a family tree when no link exists from controllers prior to the NES? if anything its an evolution from the control disc coleco and intv had.

General Gaming / Re: Wii is pretty weak
05/19/2007, 09:00 PM
i kind of agree, but nintendo has always made strong games, no matter how delayed. so its wii or nothing.
#142
i feel that the only true  withholden franchise is sonic. nothing has been good since sonic 3. the adventures 1 and 2  were ok but really the series has been in the toilet for 10 years.

mario series is close 2nd but they do take their time on making sure the game is great, then waiting an extra year to release it. if you think about it mario bros came out in 1983 and smb in 85, which ever you want to count first. super mario galaxy would only be super mario bros. 8 or 9, depening on if you count new smb, personally i dont. so thats 8 or 9 games in 22 years!  look at mega man, sonic, final fantasy and others, more games in less time or the same number of games in less time. instead there were 90 spinoffs of games you didnt need like mario tennis and baseball and 8 damn mario partys! but kart and smash bros series are good.

also nintendo has still never given us a true sequal to kid icarus, which i know makes many people mad, and now we have gone past the nes, snes, 64, and game cube waiting. the kind of game we missed out on! hopefully there will be one for wii.

after that theres a lot of  different games with no sequels i would like to see
#143
thats why i said MYTHICAL. though there has to be a somewhat translated CF3 somewhere. working designs admitted it was nearly ready when cancelled.  but to how much, i dont know.
#144
i knew about CF stories. and the design of CF1 is painfully weak compared to the later ones. I used to wonder why  working designs chose 2 and not 1 , then i played 1.

what i dream of is a playstation boxset with all 4 games in english, remade and redesigned. but from what i hear telnet japan is no more. and WD proved even getting a relatively  new  game put out , like growlanser, was a big ordeal for them.  so now lets just hope that someday the mythical "100% complete" version of CF3 shows up.  if atari 2600 game protos from companies that existed for only a year or so can be unearthed after 20 years, theres hope for anything
#145
joe

you maybe only half right on that sterotype. i would say thats true for guys, but for girls the steroetyp is of someone who littlers their myspace pace with anime icons until the damn thing crashes and they do it bcause they think they are some cute angel princess or some  bs like that.
#146
i had always hoped for a rmake box set of the complete cosmic fantasy, much like that or lunar. so long as its made in the next 50 years i can stll play it and be happy!
#147
i think all the early covers totally sucked. trying to use the TG font for all the titles doesnt work. and many of them had that late 80s tough syle to them. and most of them look like the were done on the same day by the same artist. i didnt like it at all. but i was able see past that.  they should have gone the route of early NES games and put a mock screenshot on the box, it might have fared better. of course if anime had gone mainstream here 10 years before i did, the TG might have had a chance by bringing out some of those series's games to cash in on it.

of course stuobborn japanese people dont want to be told what is right in fron of their face, and that if people were into nintendo and ninja movies and etc then we must have some fondness for japan, and would like to welcome it more. hence why anime finally started to creep onto american tv without disguising it as something else only after a lage number of trurly japanese styled games hit the saturn and ps1 and it slowly went off from there.

if only they had ditched the water color art and just shown cut scenes from Ys and said 'this is what our machine can do' things might have gone different
#148
baahnaahnaah maahn at the end as great! what is up with cartoons from england?
#149
heres a question, if thisguy ws seling every nintendo power, or EGM, some magazne with over 200 issues ould  be worth it then?

i would pay a handsome price to get the compete VG & CE!!
#150
no, no im not talking cdr im talking pressed cds and repro box/manual.

the other thing is i have heard about a 6 in  one hu card pirate, but why werent many others made? maybe its monetarily too hard to pull off  in light of the lower user base and 99999999999999999^9999 in 1 famijoy is just easier.

also then, maybe lets write konami/hudson to see if they have interest in a comp.
