Hope this might help someone or at least somebody might find it interesting.

I picked up a lot of TG16s and found that one of the units would only display a green screen regardless if there was a HuCARD present or not.  As with most solid color screen issues, possible causes could be cpu, ram, traces or a combo of any of the above.  As I was about to give up looking for broken traces, I felt a ridge by the HuCARD slot.  Sure enough, on the right side by the 6280 there was a break that took out 10 traces.

I fixed the four traces that went from the card slot to the 6280.  Just in case the crack were to telegraph further, I went ahead and ran jumpers on two more traces.  Just to see if I was on the right path, I fired it up.  I was welcomed by the Keith Courage title screen!

The remaining 6 traces that were broken, ran to the controller port.  Installed jumpers from the vias to the 6280.  Fired it back up and was able to control Keith.

I can only assume that the unit was dropped and this caused the board to crack where it did.  If you are experiencing solid color screens or no response on your controllers, the areas I repaired on my board might be some place to start looking on yours.

My next step with this TG16 is to recap the board and install a AV mod for composite out.  I will replace the tape that is holding down my jumper wires with hot snot once I am sure everything is still working.

Picked up a non-working TGCD and it was missing the upper magnetic assembly from the lid.
I assume someone removed it thinking it was keeping the discs from spinning.  That was actually
the middle gear that had turned to cheese.  I replaced the gear and put a spindle in from another
cd player.  While it works great now, I would like to return it to stock if possible.  If you have one
laying around in a parts bin that you wouldn't mind selling, please let me know.

Thanks

I am hoping someone can help point me in the right direction on an issue I am having with audio.  I picked up a TG16 knowing that it had a sound issue.  I was hoping that it simply needed a cap kit, but unfortunately, that is not the case.  When testing the unit, it sounds as if one of the sound channels is simply missing.  As I had the cap kit available, I went ahead and installed it with no change.  While performing the cap kit install, I searched for any bad traces, but didn't find any.  I get continuity from pins 17 & 18 from the Hu6280 to their respective pins on the expansion port (I am pulling composite video and stereo audio from the expansion port pins.  The RF modulator has been removed).

To test the sound, I used Ninja Spirit's sound test.  The music plays, but there is a continuous tone playing while the music plays.  This tone is persistent even when you stop the music.  I don't know if this could be a ram issue at IC102 or not.  Possibly the Hu6280 could be bad.

There aren't any graphical issues and games play fine...just with sound that is just not quite right.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
