Just a note, the everdrive is an amazing piece of hardware. It enables so much more now for developers. I paid for the digital download of atlantean and with out the everdrive i would of had to play it on a pc being emulated and face it, emulation sucks. Sure i would love to have the hucard version of atlantean but all i can do is wait until my name comes up on the list! Ever play any of the free games like HuZero, santatlantean, even the flappy bird clone are fun to play on original hardware.

As for the roms, well i'm pretty sure no one is selling them on cd and making ridiculous profits. They are free to download and that's it. Not only that but now people can try out games they may never be able to afford or see if they even like them before they buy them.

You then you posted after me you would raffle them. That would have been the right thing to do in the first place. This comment is why I locked the thread. In a way he was inadvertently referring to you three. If you wish you can explain your situation as to why you may desire said copies of "fake" games to him, whatever those reasons may be. He may, or may not, understand. Everyone has a different viewpoint, and cjameslv seems to have a fairly hypocritical one when if it doesn't seem to affect his pocketbook with his selling accessories to a device that plays roms aka "fake" games.

[Off-Topic / My new mod - Part 1 & 2 Up!]

A quick blurb:
This fuckin NES Advantage...it's a must have for shmups. What i like...adjustable turbo, the overall look.
What i don't like...everything else. Stick and buttons are soft due to rubber pads instead of micro-switches.
I tried a few different types of switches until i settled on the Sanwa's. I been thinking about doing this forever
but im not ben heck and this mod is not for the feint of heart. As far as i know and searched online, this is
the first microswitch NES Advantage mod. If i'm wrong..fuck it, here it is anyway.

I don't recommend this mod to anyone who doesn't have a shit ton of experience modding under their belt.
If you ignore this message and wish to push ahead, i'll hold your hand and walk through this hellbent mod with you. Let's go then...

Part 1: The Buttons & Main PCB

Due to huge size constraints, standard arcade buttons are out. This lead me to 30mm Sanwa's. The housing for these is too big as well. Take these apart and you end up with this:


Next we will need to install this into the main pcb which sits under the bezel.

i warned you...
k fine well time to drill the pcb and then file it or dremel (i chose dremel for time) it into a rectangle (go slow and enlarge it slowy and try to be as straight on sides as possible, as the switch will snap into the board). You will want to drill a pilot hole first right in the center of the button pad contacts then use a larger drill bit. Then remember the sanwa button you took apart, well center the bottom of the switch holder over the hole and trace the rectangle with a fine point marker or pen etc.

Take your time make sure its centered as this will need to sit centered for the button to press down on, and slide over the neck of the sanwa button (more on that later). You should have something much like this:




Now one of the switches (the one that sits closer to front. button B) will need to be slightly modified to fit and not hit the bottom plate. You will need to cut off the plastic around the pin with out cutting the metal. This will need to be about 1/8" lower than the other side. Done will look like this:


With that cluster fuck done, we get a small break and get to solder the traces we cut. This is straight forward. Check your continuity with an audible multimeter as this makes life easier. So now we are here:


Now time for the buttons. I recommend a dremel here and no idea how else you can get this part done otherwise. You will need to dremel out a rectangle into the bottom of the red A & B button centers. Take care not to remove too much. Watch your depth. It should slide right over the top and rest on the base of the white button. Once done you will end up with this:





At this point you may hot glue the sides of the switch assy if you want and reassemble the main pcb to the top of the bezel.


Part 2: (The Joystick)

Once you have everything fitted, take everything out of the top bezel. Remove all the joystick mounting posts and sand (i used a small power sander) everything flat and even with the bezel. Sand around the area as well since you will need a good surface to epoxy the switch housing later.


The joystick will need serious modding and i leave it up to you here. I modded mine by removing alot of the housing, screwing the micro-switches into the housing (8x4-40mm screws). I had to change the out parts from a few different arcade joysticks i had laying around. Sand a few plastic pieces to fit, monkey with shit until everything fit and worked smoothly....This took days. I tried a few different ideas (see my pics a few posts down) and finally found one that worked.  I ended up having to sand small areas of 2x switches so the bolts sat flush with switch.


Epoxy the joystick housing to the bezel (i used 5min epoxy and let it sit for a few hours before handling). Then solder it all up.


If all is well you will be able to bolt in the plate. You will need to pull off the small triangle brace before putting it all together (i used a beefy set of pliers and twisted each end off). **Note: The metal plate will slightly recess into the plastic around the edges.



Finally done. Which looks better, the red larger balltop or the original black balltop?




What a huge difference this is! What a huge amount of fucking work this was. I'm gonna go play lots of Star Soldier tonight and make a video for you guys!

Action Replay Reflashing

Just did this today to my newly acquired Japanese saturn! I used the action replay 4 plus. I been eyeing this thread on assembler for awhile. Nice to see someone compile this and put up a complete setup with loader. I cant wait for more versions with more supported features.  Right now it does region free and 4/1MB memory but no saves as of yet.

So i received turbokons v2 board the other day and finally had time to install it. I decided instead of the rgb on one side and audio the other i would arrange it to fit all on one side. I think it gives it a more fluid look. What a chore had to make a drill template to get this aligned. Well, what you guys think?

So i picked up not 1 but 2x Sony BVM-D20F1U units today! Well one is mine and the other is looking for a home. I paid $200 each so i'll take $200 + shipping. I'll have to send it UPS Freight as its 90+ lbs. So shipping only to 48 contiguous states. They are both made in 2005 and have the component card in back. I turned them on to test menu comes up and navigates, no burn in. So who wants in on the BVM club?

[General Gaming / Atari 2600 AV Mod]

So out of boredom this evening i decided to mod my vader. Was a bit of a pain in the ass, ended up  redoing the circuit twice.Compiled the design by using data from atariage and an ebay listing to get it all figured out. Picture quality was great and it works on my hdtv and regular crt. Here's a few shots of it in progress and final:

Just wanted to share what i'm currently listening to. Incoming back story: So i went to the Brooklyn Bowl to see Dj Shadow & Cut Chemist Monday. Real dope show and what stuck more was the opening act with Edan (pronounced E-Dawn) & Paten Locke. Their raw oldschool style of hip hop was grimy and non-commercialized. I was checking more out online and found this mp3 from Cut Chemist and Edan (i run this shit on loop for at least 4x).

[Console Repair/Mod Center / 2 Player TG16 Console Mod]

Why not? Anyone done this before? Looked around but didn't find anything (still new to forums, may have missed it). I been thinking how cool it would be to have a 2 player console. Yes i know there is a 5 port adapter but i'm thinking built-in would look alot better.

If there's no write up on this i'll go ahead and post more pics as i proceed. I added some pics for reference displaying clearances, things that will need relocation, placements etc.

[NEC Console Resource / Hey from Vegas]

First off thanks for the site! Been reading threads nonstop and there's alot of great info to be found here. I got back into retro gaming and first system i went and bought was a TG16 with CD addon and a handful of games i used to play as a kid. Second thing was a 32" crt tv to play it on (wife's reaction to the old school tv in our bedroom was priceless) Love shmups, side scrollers and rpgs. Looking forward to growing this collection out.
