ALIEN CRUSH

IMG

The winner is Alien Crush. An excellent pinball game by good ol' Naxat Soft for the Turbo / PCE. Some prefer Devil's Crush, but this is still a fantastic pinball game. I really enjoy the Alien style aesthetic. Alien Crush also makes good use of all the types of pinball items such as the bumpers and flippers. Getting into the bonus rooms for extra items and boss fights can be a challenge, but are great for points. The music is also fantastic. Devil's Crush I like a little better in the music department, but these tunes are still really nice. Well I hope everyone has fun this month. Post some high scores!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, starting the voting to get this game of the month up and running. So the last week of each month I'll make a poll with games we can vote for. I'll try to keep a good mix of genre and hucard/cd based games, so hopefully everyone will be happy (lol probably not). Below is info for all the games in the poll for people who don't know of certain games. Hopefully people that don't normally post might come forward and participate in discussion or even with certain games post high scores. Lets make this fun.

1. Aoi Blink

2. Dungeon Explorer

3. Alien Crush

4. Splash Lake

5. Hellfire S

SamIAm was doing these before (thank you!) and I was thinking about starting this back up and hosting if there are enough people that would like to participate. So, reply here with interest and maybe we can start another thread with hosting dates and hosts for the Game of the Week. I'm hoping this could start more discussion again and possibly get some lurkers to participate. So...anyone interested?

Also, this could turn into a Game of the Month as well.

Yeah it's ebay but damn those prices are 4 to 5 times what it was a year or two ago.  I believe I sold my copy with registration card for $45.  I was thinking of buying it back, but now I bet elsewhere is following suit of rediculous ebay BIN's.  Is this the new "fad" mega rare megadrive game?

Here is a high-score thread for one of the harder pc-engine shooters.   Post your score before you die on you last life since you can't pause right before you die.  Not really a shooter for high score runs, but with how hard level 4 can be if you can get past that stage without continuing a 1cc is possible.  One bit of random info for those that don't know is you get an extra life every 50k.  So, starting things off here is my score.

I had a copy for decades, but with me selling my house and moving I seem to have lost it.    I am now looking for a complete copy.  If anyone has one I will be willing to take it off your hands for a fair price.

I am phishing for interest to see if anyone is looking for any older issues.  If so I will put up a list of every issue that I have.  Now for gamefan mags the issues I have are from October 93' till the very very end.  EGM I will have to look.  I'd rather send them to people that want them rather than recycling them.  Well, the gamefan mags anyways.  I could really give a shit about the EGM's.  Anyways post in here if you're interested and I'll start making a list.  I'm giving them away, but might charge shipping if it's a couple copies.  They start to weigh quite a bit after a couple issues.  Just let me know.

EDIT:  Ok I will try to get all the mags together I have and make a list of all of it. Let everyone pick and choose.  If you know which issue you are specifically looking for just PM me.  I will try to get a full list up in the next day or two.

Great Cracked article that's actually about a year old.  None the less it's a fantastic read that is kinda spot on for the majority of us here. Have a read.

So I decided to break down and get a new HOP-M3 laser in case I need it.  I ordered it on Monday.  I got an email replay back yesterday stating that they were "on backorder with no ETA"  So I wanted to start a topic and ask around here.  Who here has recently orered one in the past month or so?  I am wanting to know how long they have been "out of stock"  Their page doesn't ever list anything as in or out of stock, so you just have to hope they have it when you order.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Just as the title says.  Blatant copy of the youtube thread.  I'm huge on music and have noticed a lot from others talking about bands and musicians/composers.  So...post what you're currently listening too! Even if it's video game music, post it!  Guess I'll get it started.

Listening to one of the new songs from a band called Cynic.   Cynic - Carbon-Based Anatomy

Also I've been on a Sega game music kick.  Here's one from my favorite Sega Arcade game.

Added some nice little info to the first sentence.   O:)

Well now others are editing.  Guess I should've known.  That's what I get for doing something that probably shouldn't have been done to begin with.  Fun's over. #-o

General Gaming / You're favorite Darius!
08/09/2011, 01:46 PM
Please give a little explanation for you favorite version of Darius!  Inquiring minds want to know! :D  Mine is Darius Gaiden on the Saturn!  I just love the graphic style on that version the best.  Plus the mid boss capture is nice as well!  Also has my favorite music from out of the other games.  I love Zuntata!

Runner up for me is Darius II/Sagaia on MegaDrive.

I would like to purchase a loose copy of US Dead Moon.  Own the box and manual, but lost the game moving.  If anyone has a loose copy I'd gladly take it off their hands for a fair price.  Thanks!

Here's a nice one that I always loved by Namco to promote the launch games for the PSX.  I always laughed at this one.  Great stuff.
Here's another one.  It's a montage of really old game commercials.

I've been a little out of the loop on the "newer" games since I don't play them much.  However I was at XSEED's web page to check out the info on Ys 7 and the other Falcom games they are releasing later.  Well I also noticed a news post talking about Ivy the Kiwi.  I was like "I've never heard of this?  Oh it's from Yuji Naka?"  Well I don't know who's seen it or not, but it really looks like a fun game.  I am glad to see XSEED bringing this over.  Not sure if this is anyone's cup of tea but Prope has some fairly interesting games to me.  I like Lets Tap and Let's Catch, and this game looks very fun.  http://prope.jp/kiwi/index.html

Here's some nice youtube videos.  https://www.youtube.com/user/PROPEGames#p/u/1/N5BIYhcnBd0

I have no idea if this has been talked about before, but this is mighty interesting.  I found this while browsing yahoo japan auctions.  http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f76201648  It seems to be a development demo of Sapphire.  This one pic shows that they were thinking about different characters.  Thought some would find this interesting.  Has anyone heard of this before?

General Gaming / sega saturn video card
06/10/2009, 01:59 PM
I have been wanting to get a sega saturn video card.  I found out there's a couple different ones.  Do all of them do the same thing.  I know they're for the better mpeg format.  I picked up the Sega Saturn Lunar Silver Star Complete that has the upgraded mpeg video.  I need the video card to play it.  Do the JVC and Hitachi Video cards both do the same thing? Does it matter which one I have?

Fighting Street / Why are you all so 1337?
03/29/2009, 10:47 AM
Seriously!  WTF.  Everyone is always spewing garbage about how awesome they are with pc-engine knowledge and videogames in general.  How good they are in bed.  You guys are so awesome!   Please...indulge me in why you are the 1337357.  I'm sure EVERYONE wants to know. Everyone here is, so I guess all I have to say is  =D>

My Arcade Card Duo is giving me issues and cleaning it has not solved the problem.  If anyone that has a used loose Arcade Card Duo they could sell I'd gladly take it off their hands.

I have decided to start playing through some of my old SCD games.  I decided to play Basted.  It is an original and that is all I will ever play in my US Duo.  The issue is the very beginning audio track for the intro starts half way through.  So the intro is still going but the audio stops well before the intro ends.  It's the only game that does this!  Well that I've seen so far.  The cd is in mint condition.  I tried the CD in magic engine and it plays the intro fine.  It's just my Duo, and again it is the only game I've notice that does this.  I haven't really been having any issues with long load times or anything so I'm not sure if it is the lens.  The lens is the only thing I can think of.  Has anyone else experienced this issue with this game?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a nice little auction on Ebay that has a "2nd print run" of Sapphire.  (not my auction)  Take a look here http://cgi.ebay.com/Ginga-Fukei-Densetsu-Sapphire-Turbo-Grafx-PC-Engine_W0QQitemZ180265017290QQihZ008QQcategoryZ139973QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I own both of these games and have a question about them.  My copy of Tengai Makyo II has a the cover on the instruction booklet.  I have noticed other covers to the instruction booklet that have the characters instead.  Also, I have seen two different covers to Gulliver Boy.  Did these games use different covers for a second running?  Also which ones are first runs if there is such a thing for these games.  Thanks to anyone who can answer my sort of pointless questions.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the Valis series.  I loved the Valis series.  Valis II and III were released here in the states and are not that expensive or hard to find.  The voice acting is bad (especially in Valis III) but I love that series.  Valis IV and Phantasm Soldier for the Japanese CD and SCD are very awesome as well.  If you'd like to see what Valis is like you can find a version for MD/Genesis of Valis III.  The Turbo version is the same with more levels and cinemas, but less or no parallax scrolling on some levels.  There used to be a bug in Magic Engine that caused Valis Phantasm Soldier to not play, but it has recently been fixed.  So these games have no problem in Magic Engine.  Also I would suggest like others have in investing  in a Turbo System.  If you're not going to bother with HU Card games find a Japanese Duo-R or RX.  One other way is to get a TG-16 with the CD add on and Super Card system 3.  That way is actually cheaper from what I could find.  Dungeon Explorer II is another one I'd recommend.  I've seen it go for a good deal on ebay but I've also seen it go at a fairly reasonable price as well.  Just depends on the seller and people wanting it at the time I guess.  BTW I'm glad you're enjoying your Turbo games!  :)

Well I recently got my turbo duo sound fixed and started rocking out all my old games.  Well I have every single "original" arcade game produced, and was starting to play them again.  I play them on a US Duo with the Kisado converter and Arcade Card Duo.  I have now been having issues with these games.  The biggest problem is trying to play Sapphire.  The game loads fine but when the first level starts the sprites are just blocks.  My ship looks fine but everything else is a blocky mess.  Fatal Fury 2 seems ok, but that's the only game that plays fine.  I tried cleaning the Arcade Card Duo and the Kisado converter but have had the same results.  I tried some pc-engine Hu Card games and they all play fine with the converter.  Anyone else ever have this problem that uses the same set up as me?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm guessing it might be time to get another Arcade card Duo.  Thanks for any help.

I have been having trouble with my TurboDuo since I got it back from my brother.  I haven't played it in over 2 years.  Since I got it back the sound doesn't work.  I know that this has been covered a billion  times on here.  I also notice that the cd lens seems to be off.  It loads stuff fine, but it seems the lens is all over the place.  I know it can get stuck to the right if it has read errors, but mine is sometimes in the middle or very very far left.  When I play Ys Book I&II it's all the way to the left.  When I play Gates of Thunder it's in the middle.  Does it just depend on where the data is on the disc or do I need to re-calibrate the lens?  Also do people with the cd audio problem still have sound in some parts like the intro to Dungeon Explorer II and one part in the begining of Dragon Slayer?  I guess that audio is on the Data track or something.  Oh well any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
