Rare Popful Mail Pop-Up Counter Advertisement


I finally got a new incredibly rare piece of Popful Mail history! This is a pop-up counter display from Japan to promote the PC-88 version of the game. First one that I've ever seen and I'm glad to add it to my ever growing Popful Mail collection.  Starting to run out of space a bit actually

1) Sega Nomad boxed with games.

or Double Dragon 2 pc engine CIB with spine + some cash for it.

2) Nintendo Famicom Cassette Data recorder - rarity from Japan early days - this uses cassettes to record your BASIC programs as part of the programming add on set.  I have the complete data cassette kit, with original cables, data tape and player/recorder + original manual.  Just missing the box.  The player can also be used with normal audio cassette tapes, if you want to play those old music in the garage    $120 shipped from JP

Trade-wise:  i am looking for CIB with spine : Double Dragon 2 pc engine CIB with spine or Sega MegaDrive Double Dragon 2 or Lunar CDs English versions complete

Sega Nomad -  It comes with the complete original box, and original plastic bags for the system.  It also comes with the original battery pack, which attaches nicely on the back of the system for portable play. 

I tested the system and verified all the battery pack connectors works perfectly, with no corrosion, which is a common problem with many of these systems being sold on Ebay.  I am a collector, and confirm this system being sold is in excellent condition.

The screen brightness, volume adjustors all work perfectly.  Included are two free games as well (packed together in the box) - Sonic , and a cool Wreck-it Ralph homebrew game. 

(note this includes the box only.  inside foams, instructions are not available.

not related to gauging - but I did try to sell some items on Ebay recently, including one nice boxed working Sega Nomad with some games (but a lamer bid on it and I cancelled the order - will prob put it on here for trade/sell before I leave US). 

anyway what I did notice on Ebay are the number of listings (attractive items, at least) in auction format on Ebay has really thinned.  I dont see anything interesting, for example, when I search for PC Engine.  It seems JP sellers no longer really hit ebay to try to sell their stuff. 

and for US stuff I dont see much.. there was a nice fully complete Ys with the map etc, that went for quite a bit ($120+). 

I didnt buy much recently, did pick up a Genesis TMNT CIB ($90) and a SMS convertor for Genesis CIB for $90 as well.

that's a joke btw.. nice stash, man... but on a seriously note, with collection like that you can't manage to track down and complete copy of River City and Spriggran?  and yes, insurance with Fire/Flood might be wise, or just dump it in a bank lock box if it's cheaper...

Joe, it is Panorama Cotton.  Legit one, pretty rare, it also comes with a mug too in some special cases (those who mailed in coupons for redemption).  Think Space Harrier but with Cotton characters.

Cadash is a great game IMO for the console though, one of the few rare titles that has 2-player simu-play on the system... I think the US versions are just getting more and more "appreciation" and boxed versions are tougher to find.  that said, 250 is a lot, but again, when Valis 3 boxed goes for >100 something as well, things gets put in context.

one of my new favorite quotes:  "Everything is relative in life".  I think this applies for sure on the video game inflation these days.  It'll take another rcession to dampen this, since every country is printing $ and devaluing their currency like crazy these days.  (In case of Japan, I'm totally getting screwed !!)

Estaban:  lol, that is the most interesting combinational game collection shelf I've seen.  lol      Dawn Detergent + PCE/TG games = unique. 

I just got a new copy of Power Golf, although it is quite clean (brand new?) it is also quite moist and definitely seems to have been abused (warped jewel case) by the previous owner.

Since the case is warped, I didn't include it in the photo. I hope the sunlight will dry out the moisture, though.

I saw MUSHA for the Genesis go for $315 on Ebay yesterday.... pretty insane.  IF Musha is that much, Spriggan on PCE will be a matter of time before it explodes...

looks like there is general inflation across all collectible video games since 2009 for sure.  Not just States-side.. even Y! Auction prices are inflated at JP these days.

I second Matti on Ranma.  Best digital manga game IMO .. Though I haven't tried out the Cobra series.  Graphics is amazing as are the full speech for a regular CD game.

As for psychic storm... I didnt love it as much..  I thought the side scrolling action pace was too slow..  Like Sinistron slow...  And I didn't like sinistron as well.. 

Got these this week.  I HIGHLY recommend Psychic Storm. Awesome shewty!!

A Pioneer CT-1270wr Cassette Tape Deck!

So, I've had my eye on this at the thrift for the last couple weeks.  It finally went on half price sale yesterday so I grabbed it after work for about $7.   I just love how cool it looks and this means I can finally listen to my old tapes too.

It still works and sounds great, but without an equalizer or such (the matching EQ was sold last week for $4 but I missed it) I need to use speakers with audio controls on them.  The checkout lady even gave me the random tape that was sitting in the unit as well, it's some random new age music.

While perusing the thrift the other day I also came across these awesome items. 

A Marvel Heroes Official POG Association Game which was fully complete with all pogs, 2 slammers, play board and instructions.  There are actually more Marvel Pogs than the box says there should be so I dunno where the extras came from.   For those wondering, I saw POGS and I instantly thought of Arkhan.

A Namco Classics Plug and play TV game thingy.  It still has working batteries too and is going to be one of the early ways I play on introducing my daughter to games. 

5 foot ethernet cable.  It was 50c and I'll probably just gut it for the wires on some mods I plan to be doing.

Speaking of Ys - have you guys seen the Japanese-based anime DVD set?  I bought it back a few years ago, it is REALLY well done.  The version I had is published by some US firm I can't recall now (I still have it in my collection).  It is very faithful, covers the advantures of Ys I and then entering the world of Magic-filled Ys II.  Someone should re-release that in HD 1080 format!!

Ys is my favorite game of all time.  from the SMS port to the TG version.. I can play it over and over..

Lochlan - I'd keep your PC Genjin 3 takiken ban if I were you (I have 1 myself).  User battle and that are equally rare (1,500?)  but at least the PC Genjin one has full playblity of one level, and looks pretty damn cool in terms of card art too.  User battle is cool but from my understanding you can't even play it without the original 5 player setup of the competition it was used at?    anyhow, the Genjin 3 can go b/t high $200 to high $300s depending on when/where.  I think I paid ~25000 yen shipped for mine years ago.

In all honesty I don't know what I should charge for this set... NecroPhile like you said, I dont know how to price this little promo guy.  I somehow saw it in Japan years ago and snatched it.  Does anyone on this board know about it?  is it comparable to some sort of Taikenban hueys in terms of rarity etc?

Here it is:

All games complete with minty original mail-in registration cards included.

Only flaw with Snatcher is the spine card is half-stuck on the front side of the CD-case (see pic).
Other wise both games are gem minty.

The collector's promo-mini-CD for the PCE game is in good condition, but there are some small wear on the cover (which is made of card board).  crease on bottom right hand side of front cover.  Back has some impressions of the plastic cd holder inside it.  It's definitively good enough for Snatcher  collector's.

Matti - I will sell you my entire set of Snacther + pilot disk and this rare non-for-sale promo PCE CD as well in a set.  Will throw up the pics on this thread in a few mins and PM ya.  I'm looking for good homes for a lot of my collection which I no longer have the ability to enjoy given the period of life changes I'm currently going through...

FYI, the game comes with two manuals and a sheet of stickers.

On another note, I just finished moving and have unpacked a lot of goodies that will need to find a new home soon. 

Since I split this set up (btw OPE will be showing off his new SCD boxed system real soon, it just reached him!!), I will be offering up a few bundles separately in more common themes.  Will notify the community when I take some pics and get the details written up

still debating whether or not to let go of my rare PCE Zashii collection....  that is a tough one.  argh.

Yep, 'twas me.  It was $317 shipped in June 2010 and bundled with seven RPGs.
