@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I bought this last year on a humble bundle. It's definitely top shelf gaming.

Of course you could look at FINAL Fantasy.

Lol to get back on topic, the translation is looking beautiful. I can't wait to give this game a playthrough.

Oh yeah, on the subject of Earthbound Zero, that wasn't even a fan translation. It was a leaked prototype already translated by Nintendo. It can hardly be used as a success story for geting fan translated games published. I'm certain the sales of EB on Wii/Wiiu had a much bigger impact on the releasing of EBZ than a ROM floating around the internet or a few repro carts.

Has anyone played Undertale yet? My kids and I just played through it over the weekend. For those who don't know, its one of those retro looking indie games. It has a really interesting battle system and awesome music.

I'm happy with my collection. Really i have almost everything i want. That is a big almost because I'm just not going to pay the going rates for Pocky and Rocky or MUSHA. My wife is actually really supportive of my collection even though she is not a gamer. The only real stipulation is that it looks good a la well shelved and organized. She readily encourages me to buy stuff. Its really easy to get caught up in the gotta catch'em all mentality and I have before but I'm content to keep my buying to garage sales and such. It's nice to chill in my game room, and im happy just to set there and watch my kids play games.

Edit: fucking tapatalk bulshit, got a new phone got to change settings .

I've got a Zoom controller from them and that thing looks ridiculous, but they did some decent peripherals.

What's the Nintendo Power paperwork and letter about?
Apparently, the person had written to them and asked a question to which they responded by sending a catalog of game paks. There are also a couple of old kiosk brochures too. Pretty cool really.

My original TurboGrafx came from a garage sale probably in 91. It had ninja spirit, fanasy zone and a busted rf plug. I always had to wiggle it just right to get it to work.

In another 10yrs we are going to look at the gouging thread and think those items were cheap.

I hope the ps4/Vita exclusivity is short lived since I don't own a PS4.

I just saw Pat the NES punk talking about this on youtube. I was surprised to hear that that Signofzeta is friends with Ian.  :D

Also, Pat tells why he doesn't come to this forum any more.

link for those interested in watching.

Since those game are available in English through the Sega CD, it makes much more sense for hackers to put their effort into completely unlocalized games. Xanadu 1/2, anearth fantasy stories, and emerald dragon to name a few.

Quote from: incrediblehark on 02/03/2016, 11:04 PMYou could always take one of THESE and wire up one (or two) spare nes pads to it.
I'll have to look and see if I have any controllers with trashed cords that I could do this to.

Quote from: SamIAm on 02/03/2016, 08:03 PMHave you kept up on the state of PS1 emulation? How is it compared to, say, 10 years ago? Has it reached the point where 99% of the library plays OK 99% of the time? Back when I emulated PS1 games in college, I think most games would start, but glitches were a matter for the course.
I don't use emulation too much, usually just to try something out for a few minutes. I've always had good luck though, even when doing it on my phone.

I'm interested in one of those EXT port adapters for my Famicom Twin, but I could only find them for $25. It seemed a bit steep for something I don't "need".

Soul Blazer is a good game Brain Lord is an OK game. If Brain Lord released earlier I could have appreciated it more, but it released in 94 and for comparison Secret of Mana released in 93.

Emulation can actually make up for some of outdated 3d of the PSOne.

Whenever your hobby becomes a chore it isn't fun anymore, and its time to step back and take a break. Joe, I think you should edit  some of your old clips together and make some compilations  For example, you often say we aren't covering X game because we already did. So you might end up with a video that has every RPG you have ever covered in one. It's something I'd like to see and it would be less work and still get a few ad dollars.
#221
I have said this before Dungeon Explorer would have been a great pack-in, and would have likely sold more controllers and multitaps.  Legendary Axe would have been another good choice because it was getting such praise in the press.

Pack-in games essentially cost the console maker nothing. That is why you don't get to choose or get a discount. Uncharted HD for example has already made its money for Sony.

Did NES boxes actually come with hangtab? When I worked for GameStop we had tons of those things we stuck on games but mostly on display boxes.
#223
I saw this on Facebook today it seems appropriate here. OMG hangtab

QuoteI was a GameStop store manager for about 3 yrs.....
When shitty after market controllers are returned they are always field destroy.
My nephew was an assistant manager for about a year. He had to 'field destroy' a nice 17" LCD from one of the promo setups.

Manger insisted he use a hammer.
That really hurt :(
I once had a district manager who would  just call us and give us his password so he didn't have to come do the field destroy like he was supposed to. Anyways, a manager in a nearby store moved a bunch of PC games to defective( PC was always field destroy) anyways they sat in the back for awhile until the DM called and gave his password then the guy just brought them home.
#225
Looking at the video in the link that is field destroy items. Something that has been returned and its not worth it to the manufacturer or GameStop to ship back. When shitty after market controllers are returned they are always field destroy.  If retro games were thrown out they were likely returned as defective and not deemed worth fixing at the time. I was a GameStop store manager for about 3 yrs. I even managed a Funcoland turned GameStop. When the end of retro games came they went on sale. What didn't sell was returned to corporate, not trashed. I'm sure they wholesaled them after that.

It kind of pisses me off because I've wanted pocky and rocky forever and I would love to bust one open and play it, if not for the outrageous price.

This is a perfect example of why you shouldn't pay a shit ton of money for old games because you never know when a warehouse of old stock will show up.

Dang, I missed the last one in Arlington. Gamesack is the only panel that I would be interested in going to.

I was playing Punch Out on Wii U and I was losing to some of the earliest opponents; at first I chalked it up to not having played in years. After getting my Famicom Everdrive I had no problems and played to Soda Popinsky without losing.
We're these both played on a lcd/plasma?
The Wii-u was on a plasma set to game mode, the Famicom was on a CRT.

I have one of these that I picked up at a Garage Sale for $5. I had to fix the wires leading to the speakers also. Mine is actually in pretty good shape with the stand and remote. Only a little scuff on the front. It is actually in my storage building. I already have a 27" CRT and so I don't really have room for it.

Quote from: Dangeross on 01/05/2016, 01:19 PMI'm into RPG's and action/adventure type games mostly.
Neutopia, Dragon's Curse, and Dungeon Explorer are all great games in the action / adventure style. If you get a CD add-on or a Duo there are a lot more options for RPGs.

My only advice would be don't get hung up trying to get items. If you can't reach one, proceed and eventually a way will reveal itself.

Just finished Dynastic Hero, thanks again for those who made it possible for me to play it.  I had never really thought about how it was a Metroidvania type of game, before Castlevania ever started doing it. I guess Metroidworld isn't as catchy as Metroidvania. I definitely had a good time playing, but I think I liked Dragon's Curse a bit better.

I just finished Axiom Verge. I was wondering if anyone else here has finished and what their thoughts would be on some of the story elements.

I was kind of thinking that the bosses were clones created not by Athetos but rather by the Rusalka. In other words they were created just like Trace but then they were mutated and so they had to create another and finally Trace was successful. Perhaps after the use of the nanogates from Katrahaska. Anyways just curious what others thought.

It's been a few months since I played. I'll try this advice out soon.

1CC'd Gate of Thunder. Felt pretty good, though the game on the whole is very easy - at least on Normal difficulty. Devil is pretty chaotic; I don't know if I have the patience for it.

This game is good. Not Thunder Force III "easy but excellent" good, but close. It sometimes is a little self-indulgent showing off its graphics at the expense of slow, uneventful sections where you stand still (sometimes without having to shoot anything!). Bosses look great but have pretty pitiful attack patterns (usually 1, sometimes 2 easy-to-dodge salvos). All in all though it's a very likable game.
I can get to the 3rd boss without dieing and then I use up most of my lives on him.  Any advice?

and, I am not sure if he's aware about SaberRider.   I haven't heard from Saberguy at all... so, I'm not sure if I'm aware either, lol

We got a Wii U for the family at launch and we have played it more as a family than any other system.
All I can do is reiterate what everyone else has said about all the first party games are good. WiiU is really like the GameCube once was with a lot of great Nintendo games but nothing else really stands out.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 12/26/2015, 02:08 AMBeing developed by the French. So are the Japanese completely out of the biz now? Can they even do jack shit on their own any more?
According to that blog post:

We're so happy to be able to work on a cool project like Monster Boy but things are getting surreal now: Yuzo Koshiro and two of his friends (to be revealed later) have joined the team and will contribute music to it! Wow...O.o - We always wanted to work with great musicians from Japan and we couldn't be more proud and happy about it.

Yuzo Koshiro is famous for his awesome soundtracks in many videogame classics like the Ys Series, Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Actraiser and many more.

So I guess the Japanese still like to make music lol.
