I just want to say that Playstation 3 was 128 bits and Playstation 4 is only 64 bits. PS4 sucks.

I think I'm going to convert it to a MAME cabinet just for vertical shooters. Although it's not an original cabinet or anything, I'm still going to keep it where I can easily switch it back to a standalone Raiden 2. I also got a free Shinobi. The cabinet is trash and the monitor has some burn-in but the board works and the monitor looks fine when playing the game.

Anyone have opinions on running Turbo games in a MAME cabinet? i.e. Are there arcade equivalents that are better or what games would be good in a stand-up setting?

I just got this, it needs some TLC but i got it at a good price and everything works.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: Raffle: Devil's Crush

My cousin used to come over and bring Alien Crush, but I've yet to play Devil's Crush. Anyways, great raffle. This forum continues to amaze.

I'm getting chills already!
#658
Yeah, but I don't really have a problem with those, I usually only die once for all of them. Oddly enough I die the most on boss number 2 because the balls that fall down are constantly flickering and its hard to focus on exactly where they are.  I can get to  the very end when those little face things come out but they get faster and faster. I can never dodge the last one.
#659
Fantasy Zone, I can't beat the last boss. I guess I'm going to have to watch a youtube video. Those things that come out,one always moves straight for me and kills me. Also, just curious and I'm sure this has been asked before but is it consider cheating to use the turbo switch?

Quote from: technozombie on 03/12/2014, 11:49 PMWoot I finally beat Ys 1 and 2. The last boss was tough. I never thought I'd play an rpg that required dodging reflexes like a shooter lol. Curious what is the normal level to beat it? I was 60.
anything special needed to fight last boss?
i was getting my but kicked way too bad
You are pretty much required to have the goddess ring equipped when fighting him. It slows down have fast your magic drains when using the magic shield staff or whatever its called. Also, you may need all the Cleria equipment, just like you needed the Silver stuff in book 1.
#661
Well, since everyone is always like "lol KC," it was never on my priority list to play. However, after watching it on Chronturbo it actually seemed kind of fun.
#662
Wow, you guys are awesome.  I must say that this is the only forum that I actually follow. I like that this community actually places more value on playing than collecting. Thanks again.

P.S. I've never actually played KC(since mine didn't work), I'm looking forward to it.
#663
Can I be entered? My Keith Courage green screened so I mailed it to that guy who wanted broken hucards for some project, lol.
#664
I just finished Ys book 1 and 2 for the first time ever and leveling up is a must in this game. The instruction manual is useful too because it has much more information about what the items do than the in game description. Of course I'm sure you can find that online.

Great raffle, I wonder what would cause a bubble like that.

Is there any evidence that playing burned games causes any extra wear on the system? I use verbatim discs and burn with Imgburn. It's free and easy to use. I've yet to have a problem.

I'm a gamer first and foremost. I've been buying games for a long time, but honestly, I don't have very many. Perhaps one day emulation will be so good that people will care less about having the original. IMO we're not at the top of the peak because so many people don't know about game collecting. In my mind its still not very mainstream.

Quote from: OldRover on 02/28/2014, 08:16 PMFF9 would almost make my list... except I didn't actually hate it. It was hyped all to hell but wasn't all that interesting after awhile. It had a cool opening and the story was interesting for awhile but just got more and more contrived and boring as it dragged on. I quit playing after you pick up that character that eats things. As for FF8... well, I never had high expectations of it to begin with. Cloud 2.0 (Squall) was one-dimensional and predictable, especially if you've already played FF7. His constant whining was so obnoxious. I never finished the game, despite forcing myself to play it for as long as possible. I got to the part where Cid makes Squall the leader of things... and, predictably, Squall whined like a bitch as a result. I couldn't take his emo bullshit anymore and stopped playing. So neither of those games would really fit the criteria for me, since I didn't ultimately hate FF9 and I didn't really want FF8 to begin with.
FF9 was OK, I actually beat it but like 7 I never went back to play it after finishing it. Unlike, FF6 I seem to play through like once a year.

For me it's Final Fantasy 8. Pre-ordered 7 and played it 200+ hours. I pre-ordered 8 and never beat it.  The story was convoluted and boring, the enemies leveled up with you which negated the point of even leveling. The magic draw system made you not want to use magic because it was tied to your stats. Lastly, the card game was boring, too random and not enough skill based and too easy to miss characters that had good cards and not be able to go back and get them. In my mind the only redeeming thing was the mini-game type sessions over pre-rendered cut scenes looked really awesome at the time.

I only had Ninja Spirit and Fantasy Zone for the TG when I was a kid. As I'm starting to buy more TG games I'm sure I'll find something I don't like......or not, OBEY.

Quote from: majors on 02/27/2014, 09:50 AMVanishing Point on DC had horrid controls when you start but the Stunt Driver mode was crazy fun. I've heard that the main game does get better the more cars you unlock, but it starts you off with such crappy cars (two in fact), I never bothered to play more of the main game.
I remember when I picked this up second-hand for next to nothing, thinking nothing of it.  And I had so much fun I brought it over to my little bother's place and never came home with it!  I would go over to his place almost every weekend and for awhile we played that a ton! Great, arcade-y racing game that fell under the radar.
I have a soft spot in my heart for this game too.  I never really played the racing aspect of it much but the challenge courses were a blast. My cousin and I used to just do them over and over trying to 1-up each other.  I have no siblings and he was like my little brother. Sadly, he passed away before his 21st birthday, but I still have memories of playing this and the first stage of Super Mario Bros. just trying to see who could get through the stage the fastest.

This was an awesome raffle, thanks for putting my name on the list. Grats to Esteban.
#673
I visited Stuttgart once, I'd like to go back to Germany in general as I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time there.
#674
I agree that games from the 8bit and especially 16bit era have much more lasting appeal than the Atari 2600.  Disney games, for example, actually look like their characters.

Quote from: jeffhlewis on 02/09/2014, 10:41 PMI actually remember that Secret of Mana ad airing in the U.S...literally only saw it 2-3 times though. There was also some kind of claymation ad for Final Fantasy 6 also around the same time...

This one!
Final Fantasy III/VI Ad
Holy crap, I totally forgot about that commercial. Too bad Square(Enix)'s advertising isn't the only thing that was better back then.
#676
Quote from: guest on 02/08/2014, 03:29 PMI like this Spatterhouse ad... NEC didn't do so bad in the marketing department, their mistake was to advertise only on big metropolitan areas... fail on a country of the size of US.
This is a great commercial.  Although gaming in general is more popular than ever it seems like there is fewer TV commercials.
#677
These 2 commercials both made me want the games. One shows game play one doesn't show any at all lol.

lol this is the kind of response I expected. the video was done by pat the nes punk and some others. I think he should stick to the goofy reviews rather than the riffing.
#680
I'm not a big fan of this type of stuff but it has a couple of funny parts.
#681
I have a Keith Courage that green screens. I would donate it.
#682
I made it to the last boss today using 2 continues. Sadly I died on him and could never get past the Dino tank thing with only the 2 lives you get when continuing. Weirdly, I find myself in "Super Mario" mode, where I feel like I need to be in a hurry and have to keep reminding myself that I don't have a time limit. Once I started to change that mind set and started looking around for hidden stuff and spending more time getting points I do a lot better.
#683
I read a ton of gaming mags in the grocery store while my mom shopped. I was probably the only kid who liked going grocery shopping. Somewhere at the end of TG16's retail life I found one at a yard sale that I thoroughly enjoyed but only had a couple of games. Now I'm trying to relive the early 90's like a boss lol.

Quote from: Alucard655 on 01/23/2014, 08:25 AMThat dude had to be desperate..... I admit I was that guy.... please let me mockery begin. I saw that other auction for case and disc only ($69).
I was "watching" this sale as I too love RPG's. Anyways, don't forget cost and value are two different things. If the "value" of this item was more to you than it's "cost" then don't be bothered. Also being honest and taking the impending mockery is admirable.
#686
The disc said P.O.P LaserDisc on it. P.O.P. usually means point of purchase. For those who've never worked retail its basically what all the marketing material is called.
#687
Well I placed my Surugaya-a-too order. The majority of the stuff I was looking at before x-mas was gone. So I ordered a multitap, Street Fighter 2 ,one of those Hori 6 button controllers, Ys 3, and Space Harrier. I wanted dodge ball and dragon spirit/saber but oh well.
#688
You have to change the shipping country to Japan. I emailed them and they still ship to the U.S. even though, when trying to purchase, it looks like they don't. I still haven't ordered anything, I had some problems with my bank card, turns out they were blocking all transactions with Japan and so I had to get a credit card. I don't normally use credit cards lol.
#689
Well I guess you can hardly fault a person for obeying, and at close to 1k thats a lot of obeying

OP describes many many nights for me.

I've never tried Battle Royale, but I look forward to giving it a try.

After reading about CF2 being so cheap new, I thought I might find a used one for very cheap. Strange enough there isn't a used one on Amazon, and Ebay only had one used one for more than the new ones, plus it was from Canada.
#697
I'm thinking of getting one of those, I've been scouring ebay and turbo games are through the roof. :(
