I was playing some AC tonight and when I was in the bonus room with the sculls I noticed the ports that eject the ball were glitching a bit so I got the camera and this showed up.. it looks like the Gunhed ship with dark colors. I think it appears in the top hole but I was messing with the camera and didn't catch it very good. Any one else have this happen?

I noticed I got an extra ball when I killed it.
Lucky I had the ipad next to me to catch the glitch, I thought my game was about to self destruct.  :-k It played fine afterwards so not sure. I'm gonna try to get it to happen again here...

So whats changed?
The image now only contains 512 colors, no anti aliasing text or absolute whites
Fixed one of the swatches that was incorrect I think it was 180 72 216 in the second row
Got rid of the duplicate color clusters
Rearranged and made the image smaller
Made a dark version

Also I made a swatch file for Photoshop

Go to your Photoshop folder then /Presets/Color Swatches. paste the .aco file

Let me know if there are any problems.

I noticed Ps can be a bit picky when you manually use the color slider, fill something than sample it again. it will alter the color numbers slightly( example 72 36 0) will change to 73 37 or something. I think this only happens in the default 8bit (rgb) mode and appears to not happen if you switch to 16bit or over to indexed. Anyone else have this problem?

Good thing I had the cam nearby and started snapping, the game doesn't pause in the ending at all and just goes back to the title screen.

After 25 years of this games music giving me nightmares..I can take it out back and destroy it .../put it back on the shelf

Interesting stuff, lucked out on the size.

yeah, I noticed a few goofy spots like the lower left end on the X could be better will try and touch it up some more.

I see you added the lower drop shadow like you mentioned on the options and falcom, looks good and goes with the light rays.  8)

Hmm well it can easily go back in.

Ok here is a comparison for the outline.
1 is full outline
2 is thin outline
3 is a hybrid were we put one on top of the other and change the "full" to a darker shade. softens it up a bit

Some interesting views and opinions that are based on the game. My opinion having not actually played the game (yet) is more basic; that the cursive doesn't stand out too much to me, and compared to other rpgs doesn't bother me. When I briefly googled some rpg title screens (mainly SNES) about half seemed basic font like and the other half ranging from medium to heavily stylized. Also like I mentioned the cursive just seems rpg like imo for some reason.
Still like I said I can understand some of SamIAms views. But will let you guys discuss it since it seems more based on having played the game.

Good news on the 64 height  8) whipped up what I was thinking quickly in the past couple hours here. first one is kinda what I think of after reading SamIAms opinions though I could be way off.
made it kind of low contrast, glassy, basic/simple

Then did one with the cursive Xanadu higher contrast more like the J Title screen, side note I was able to make it fairly quickly since I originally traced the art with vector paths so just had to scale it up luckily.

I see what SamIAm is saying, and thats why I like his version as well. It has a simplicity to it.
Definitely something to keep in mind.

In a way I like BTs smaller logo better than the bigger one, maybe the big one is too big?, so is something in between possibly the answer like 48height? Not to make you guys do more work just theoretically :P

When SamIAms mention anti aliasing a few post back I was going to post that I was thinking the same thing that elmer was talking about later, the AA may deviate too far from the pixel shading look even though it has its benefits. About the extra colors on my last pic even though i added 4 colors, I didn't use some of the original colors so perhaps just picking some nicer shades is the key. Anyways went back to a pixel shading look.

I think this may be my final entry for 32 height as I'm pretty happy with it, though Im always down for changing stuff based on others input. The 2 was really bothering me and after I saw BTs version I thought I'd go back and take a look at the artwork again

Also reading what SamIAms was saying on his gradient and lighting he made a good observation, and his is looking super nice ..so I borrowed his Idea there O:). My outline is heavier than BTs so I defo need to have a nice color gradient. also added a drop shadow back in (the first one I posted had one) but also because SamIAms looks nice :- it can always be knocked out if its too much. Well, Im having fun and learning some techniques so don't quote me on this being my final entry.  :)

Well, I added 4 new colors to my concept and did some blending/anti aliasing with them was able to squeeze a little more detail out over my last pic also remade the 2 since the last one was a little jaggy.

That does look good, a few of the letters are a little sharp like the E. I'm curious how that would look not italic?

Updated the letter spacing, smaller II, also tightened the word spacing a little to get it to fit within the background tablet.
Are we just using the colors on the title screen or is there a palette? I think I used some colors from the original concept, and perhaps the outline is a little bright right now.

Side by side isn't too close, and it is turbo related heh. I also like that its clean and the tall text kinda gives it a chisel
look to go with the background tablet/stone. On the other hand you are right that it doesn't have any connection.

Here is a certain font we all know(hint look at my avatar) but it actually looks kinda rpg like, kind of like final fantasy slim letters

Here's a cleaner version no outer anti-aliasing, bigger word spacing, slight inner shadow. The II would have to be remade to match. Would take more work to add a bigger gap to the letters. I could work on it if you guys liked were it is going. but not sure if its gonna get too much better, its kind of an extreme cursive to do in the limited resolution.

Edit: cleaned slightly more and added a basic 2

Thanks for the info, I used tilemolester and tried to edit the xml, but couldn't figure out how to add interleaved in there. You wouldn't happen to still have your xml file for tm? There is an interleaved button in the editor menu but I'm guessing your mixing it with the 1bitplaner. I did make a new composite that uses three 1bitplanners (with plane order 0) and was able to get stuff to show up pretty good. This and using 2bit composite and 1bit planer I was able to mess around with editing stuff but its pretty hard to get the right colors you want with the different layers and all. So I'm not sure if I want to spend too much time editing many objects unless I could do it easier. I did find the ship and bomb icon and replace them with something smaller like I originally wanted to. but then I had to deactivate the gold ship in the hex because I couldn't find the gold ship tiles. But with zero lives I should have done that anyways. (Getting the power up will still pull a screen-clear of enemies).

I'll wait and see if there's any feedback on the original patch before I upload the new version encase I need to add any changes.

Gunhed FX1 rom hack is a modified version of Gunhed/Blazing Lazers
It is modified to make the game more challenging and give people who played it many times something a little different.

The patch is easy to apply you just need the rom.
Instructions in the readme.

Don't expect a different game though this is my first rom hack. I just altered some things to give myself something different to play once in a while instead of the original.

Changes are:
Only have 1 ship/life
Disabled 1 ups
No continues
Ship and weapon colors changed
Slight modifications to hud
Some sound fx have been changed or muted if annoying(blue comets)
Power up behavior altered (no sway)
Only need to put the difficulty code in once for all difficulty settings to be available
Speed starts at level 3 instead of 2
Disabled sound test screen do to level select cheats
a few other small things possibly

Let me know if you find any bugs or problems, and let me know if it works fine on an everdrive (I haven't got around to getting one yet) I tested this in the three emulators and didn't find any problems yet.

If you don't need more of a challenge it may be fun to play through a few times and see how far you can get.

Passed Blazing Lazers last night. I haven't played in a while but I managed to beat it without losing a life, This is the second time I've done that. default difficulty (34 divided by 2 plus 5.. 22 lives add 50 for the winning bonus)

I played about ten times last week and only made it to a moving downward technical cave. kinda wish this game had some text stating what level you are on. but that is one of the cool things about it is that it just turns into the next area.

I did confirm that the space suit icon is a 1 up its located in the blue downward cave after you go through the metal gates and its on the left side when you kill this dude on a cliff.

as for the dragon flies, these are weird I think they are for points but I'm not sure. I think you have to shoot them and then collect them. I cant figure out what spawns them but it may be shooting an invisible trigger. the first location you can get them is on the second level before the strawberry on the other side of this floating cave.

I managed to grab the ss but i didn't shoot these first so I failed to collect them. Its a mystery still I guess

Confirming what KC said a few post back
I checked the weird feeling pad and sure enough I picked it out of 5 others and looked inside

Here is an update on the Ys maps I was working on a few months back.
(They were discussed a bit in two other threads but wanted to start a main thread.)
Decided to finish my 8dp tg cover stuff first and that took a little longer than I thought but I got it wrapped up and worked on this recently.

Everything is printed now just have to test some cutting methods and cut them out. I made 50 of them.
I mentioned in the other thread I was working on 2 other Ys items.. check the pictures.

This is my first time beating this game back during game of the week in June.
Can't remember if I lost 2 lives or 1 during the play through.
Anyways if you can beat this game you can probably beat this score.
