Not Douchey at all. I love vidyagames, but am bad at them. :oops: I'm not the only one here like that.

I have CD Denjin (the sequel), but not the original Air Zonk.

Saturn Bomberman is the correct answer.

I wanted to like XEXYZ, but I never did quite 'get it'. it feels like it's unfinished.

dangit, don't have any CD-rs, and I can't figure out how to get any emulators to read a flunking iso... :evil:

I've never beaten a turbob shooter. The closest I've gotten to beating one is Blazers, so I'll say that.

So because I haven't got much better to do on a friday night, I decided to take the score list from that magazine scan, plug it into a spreadsheet, and see if I could find anything interesting. Like maybe bias. One of these days I'd like to compare these scores to square inches of ad space, and see if there's a corelation. I can't do that yet, but I did find something weird.

The average score of games, by platform, was:
(reviewer) Steve Harris; Ed Semard; Martin Alessi; "Sushi X"; EGM overall
NES 6.2352941176*;   6.2352941176*;   5.9803921569;   6.2254901961;   6.1691176471;
SMS 5.35;   6.1;   6;   5.7;   5.7875;
SNES 7;   7.0833333333;   7.25   6.8333333333;   7.0416666667;
Genesis 6.5652173913;   6.9347826087;   6.5869565217;   6.8695652174;   6.7391304348;
TG16 6.3636363636;   6.4242424242*;   6.4545454545*;   6.4545454545*;   6.4242424242*;
GB 7.64*;   7.56;   7.64*;   7.88;   7.68;
LYNX 6.6363636364;   6.3636363636;   6.8181818182;   6.2727272727;   6.5227272727;
All systems (by system) 6.4650852515;   6.6029925857;   6.5800126586;   6.5670546901;   6.5537862965;
All systems (by game) 6.437751004;   6.5582329317;   6.421686747;   6.5301204819;   6.4869477912;

Note the numbers with asterisks. Maybe I don't know enough about statistics, but it seems unlikely to me that, across a platform, two reviewers would have the exact same average between them coincidentally. Also note that this happens twice to the TG16: the average of Semard and EGM overall are identical when it comes to the TG16.

Hastily drawn conclusions: EGM as a whole disfavored the NES, SMS, and TG16(by -0.3178301441,-0.6994477912, and -0.0627053669 points, respectively) and favored the rest, especially the Gameboy(+1.1930522088 above average; everything else was favored by a fraction of a point.)
As for individual reviewers: Martin Alessi favored the TG16, while the rest disfavored it; He was also the biggest Snerd. Steve Harris HATED the SMS (disfavoring it by more than a whole point); "Sushi X" was the hardest reveiwer to please, unless he was playing a Gameboy(favoring it by 1.3498795181 points; the next most favored was the Genesis at 0.3394447355); Besides the TG16, the only system where some favored and others disfavored was the Lynx(Semard and "X" disfavored it, the others favored it).

Quote from: SamIAm on 02/23/2012, 02:01 AMAlso, if we include playground rumors, I think the all-time worst I ever heard was one younger kid claiming the his older brother had physically scratched his Quake CD in just such a way as to change one of the enemy face textures into a picture of Bill Clinton.
This reminds me. Back in the day, my friend down the street got some book that came with a "doom hack CD". you were supposed to be able to use it to mess with Doom in various ways, one of them being replacement of enemy sprites with celebrity faces.

Is it possible that kid mistook Doom for Quake, and either misunderstood "hack" or was just gullible?

I like it :)

There's a college radio station here in town that I think might like this sort of thing. I'd suggest it to them, but don't want to seem spammy either. Any suggestions?

This thread is for asking about PC-Engine games you're unsure about buying, and can't find enough information on. Is the game fun? how high is the moon-language barrier? is it deep, or just eye-candy? Whatever the reason, if you're unsure about a PC-Engine game, ask about it here!

I'll start:

Color Wars. I know it's a puzzle game, but that's about it - can't find gameplay videos or reviews. One website is selling it for 7 bucks, plus shipping. Should I bite?

A PVR that doesn't record one channel, not 2 channels... but ALL THE CHANNELS AT ONCE.  :shock:

the 'lite' version, that can store 3 days worth of everything broadcast, costs 1,200£ (about $1,900); the 'promise 7' that records a weeks worth of TV at once, will set you back 1,998£($3,170).

Only works in the UK, though.

Quote from: DragonmasterDan on 02/20/2012, 10:15 AMAnd the controller pinouts were large and easy to snap and break. I went through quite a few controllers as a kid because one of the pins would get bent or snap.
Really? I never had that problem. In fact, I kind of thought the larger connector was sturdier than it really needed to be.
#124
I also had a packed-in-hell. My parents would have been better off getting me a IIGS (like I suggested) but the salescritter talked my dad into paying too much for a computer that was 2 years out of date in 1992. no sound card, no modem, and a ghetto pseudo-windows launcher. At least it had VGA.

Best game I had for it was Castles 2. I bought Master of Orion (the original) but couldn't play it due to insufficient ram. (I had 2 megabytes of RAM, but the game needed 2 megabytes *free*.)

so... mixed memories on that.
#125
neat stuff.

That is a big pet peeve of mine with every portable I can think of - no title on the end. The game gear did it, so did the lynx, game boy, even such exotic things as the Wonderswan did it. and of course, our very own HuCards.
#126
Is that before or after shipping?

I'll keep an eye out.

Quote from: HercTNT on 02/19/2012, 05:04 AMNat, once again i stand corrected. I had no idea. Then again I never owned a three button pad. does that apply to the 6 button pads as well, or do you have to have the three?  thanks for the info, there is hope for me yet  :lol:
No, the 6 button pads work in a completely different way. select and run are unrelated to buttons 3,4,5, and 6 on the 6 button pad.

I've changed my mind. Short cords are no longer my pet peeve, because I have extension cords.

My new Turbob pet peeve is games that use Select to pause, and Run for something/nothing else. Valis 3 and Galaga 90, I'm looking at you.

There's another forum I frequent where we have a troll with a similar profile as ninny. Attention whoring, enemy list, keeps trying to come back under other aliases, etc. I'm afraid to say they've been dealing with him since before we started dealing with ninny, and he still keeps coming back.

Such a person probably doesn't have any social outlets other than internet forums.

Aside: MotoRoaderMike, I remember him.

Back on topic: Where does Kitsunexus (sp? extra syllables!?) fit into this. Was that another Nintega moniker, or am I besmirching someone's reputation?
Nope. Kitsunexus had the decency to finally go the fuck away. He did hang out at Lazerdorks for a while, but finally left a while back. Haven't seen him since. Another old infamamous poster, Validus, also was not Nintega, and also had the decency to go the fuck away.

So Ninny seems to think that if he convinces the mods that Nectarsis, Sinistron, et. al. are bad, he can get them banned. Let's crush that false hope utterly  :twisted:

Quote from: Bernie1. Why does the Atari ST version have no music? Sound effects only... wth?
Back in the day, when the ST and Amiga were popular, they were rivals. The ST was the weaker machine, so if you wanted to make a game for both, you kind of had to go with what the lowest common denominator (the ST) could do.  When Amiga games got ported to ST, features often had to be removed because it couldn't do many of the things the Amiga could.
It would seem that, in this case, the port was done with a hatchet.
