@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Off-Topic / A Boy and His Dong
11/06/2017, 03:11 AM
I wonder how A Boy and His Blob was such a famous video game, in that the NES title even got two song covers done by Brentalfloss and Duane.

Back in the day, I had Rescue of Princess Blobette on the GameBoy, and I thought "this game is no fun", thanks to the stiff controls, unforgiving gameplay and empty feeling castle maze. The one single music track does overstay its welcome pretty fast. One level, that's it?

Yesterday I saw a longplay of the NES version. Well, I think the colours and the more interesting looking backdrops make it a nicer looking game, and the music has more "punch", even though the melody is the same. Still, the rest of the gameplay looks to me the same as the boring GameBoy version. Blergh.

I've got a Boy and His Blob on the Wii for several years now, after seeing Game Sack talking about it in episode 76. The controls are done well, the game is now seperated into multiple worlds and levels, and there are even boss fights. Some of the FMV footage looks inspired by Studio Ghibli. Not a must-have game, but you can certainly spend your time worse.

Off-Topic / Convert HDMI to VGA
06/20/2017, 07:33 AM
Hi guys, I'm searching for a quality converter, so I can use HDMI sources (my Laptop Vostro 3360, Raspberry Pi, etc.) with my old TV (Loewe Concept L26, native resolution of 1366x768).
My laptop has a VGA output next to HDMI, but since it handles the TV like a generic monitor, it will only output full PC range RGB (0-255), while the TV expects limited TV RGB range (16-235). Thus very light grey will turn into full white, and very dark grey into deep black. The graphics drivers (Intel HD 4000) had been updated but still do not allow any changes in RGB range for "generic" monitors.

This is frustrating, since even my Xbox 360 and PS3 allow for limiting the RGB range when being connected via VGA or YPbPr/Component Video, so it matches the TV's range of 16-235.

The converter should provide some input for external power (I've heard these devices consume more power than HDMI can natively provide), be it via USB or a DC input.
It should be able to extract the sound channels from the HDMI source and output it to analog Stereo. SPDIF would be nice, too, but isn't a must-have.
HDCP support would be nice, but isn't a must-have.
No noticeable lag please, I want to use it for games, too.
Picture quality must be spot on in 720p and 1366x768 resolutions.
Should be able to act either as a TV or a generic PC monitor, so the computer's graphics chipset will enable the Full/Limited RGB range option.

Do you have any expericences with such converters, be it good or bad?
Any warnings?
Any recommendations?

And yes, I'll keep that TV.

Hi guys,
Inspired by this topic https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=20853.15;topicseen , I decided to create another thread.
since where I live, video game arcades were pretty much non-existant in my childhood, I never really experienced arcade machines. The few times I got my hands on arcade joysticks have been either abroad or when visiting the local Berlin computer game museum (were I played some Donkey Kong. And sucked bad). Sometimes, I hear people talking on the web or in magazines about arcade joysticks for consoles and why they are so great for e.g. fighting games and shooters.

In 2014, a good friend gifted me his JB King joystick. Here's a video of one of these things:
I tried playing some shooters on my SNES, but I couldn't really get into it. It's just that I have a feeling that I can't use its big stick as precise and fast as a small d-pad.
But since I never had much of a choice of trying other arcade sticks, I can't really judge if I either just am bad with these, or if a good arcade joystick would make more fun. Hell, I can't even tell if the JB King is good at all. It feels nice, has lots of weight, well the L and R buttons are placed so wrong (should be rather like a Sega 6 button layout), but otherwise?

So I'd like to hear what you've got to say. What's the do's and don't's with these controllers? I'm also asking because I wonder if it is worth modding the JB King to work with other consoles (let's say.... my TurboDuo, surprise).

EDIT: Replaced the video with one that has sound.

At least that's the impression it left on me when I saw it on TV right now.

I have no idea if this is true, but this is how it was promoted.

I've got to confess I've already posted this at NFG/GameSX, but nonetheless I would like to hear your thoughts about this topic.

I've recently bought a used PS3 that came with two original controllers (1x Sixaxis, 1x Dualshock 3).
I discovered the sticks on both to be very oily. After going through the usual cleaning routine with a total disassembly, washing all plastic parts with dish soap (and rubbing alcohol where necessary), and reassembling the controllers, I found out that there's still emerging an oily substance on the stick shafts, right where the seam between rubber and plastic is.

This hasn't ever happened to me with any other controller with rubber stick caps before (Dualshock 2, GameCube, Xbox 360), but I know an old Logitech mouse of mine has developed a similar oily rubber problem over the years. Googling turned out that quite a lot people experienced this with PS3 controllers like I did, but the majority of them just shrug it off as a lack of cleaning, with no idea hinting to the real cause.

So, I would like to know if there's a proper way of curing the problem. Are there replacement rubber caps that won't oil out? For one of the controllers, I plan to buy one replacement stick anyway since the plastic shaft has seen lots of wear.

I'm looking for an original Sony manufactured vertical stand for the slim PlayStation 3 (CECH-2x to CECH-3x) (not super slim).
The model no. for the stand is 98054 if that helps.

Off-Topic / Duck, duck, goose
04/12/2015, 03:06 PM
RULES

1. Everybody has to reply either "duck" or "goose" to the person above you.

2. If you reply "duck", nothing happens to the person above.

3. If you reply "goose", you have to provide a new avatar and signature for the person above. Please try keeping picture files within reasonable dimensions and filesizes.

4. The "goosed" person has to keep this avatar & signature for 7 days. He can't be goosed another time within these 7 days. He isn't allowed to tell other people in your sig or avatar that he has been goosed.

5. Rinse and repeat.

Feel free to attach whatever dumb stuff you want me to use. I'm your guinea pig for the first post.
Be warned though, I have a stack of ridiculous pictures that is just waiting for you guys to put you into shame.

Are you a bad enough dude to participate?

EDIT: Made the rules (hopefully) easier to understand for those who aren't familiar with duck, duck goose games.

Since my old Xbox 360's 120GB HDD is jam-packed with game installations, save files, downloaded content and user-data, I feel the need for a bigger harddisk drive.

Bad luck: Genuine 250GB HDDs for the "fat" console are rather scarce and thus pricey. On eBay are mostly bootlegs found, which lack some features of the original drives as well as being of questionable durability.

I've seen tutorials where people put the old HDDs into new slim caddys for use in the Xbox 360 S/E versions, but I'd like to do it the other way around.
So here starts my quest for getting a brand new original 500 GB Slim HDD to work in the old console, by swapping the caddys of each HDD and using the transfer cable prior.

My Xbox 360 Elite (Jasper chipset w/ HDMI) is unmodified and equipped with the latest updates. Will it recognize the official 500 GB HDD once the caddy has been swapped? Or is there any known limit for HDD size on the old console?

Back then in 2012 and 2013, Arcade-Gear aka Jap-Sai was the no.1 Japanese import store for me. I ordered lots of used PS1 and PCE games from them, and all were in flawless condition, most even with obi, and very fair (I'd say unbeatable fair) priced. And the staff was super-friendly.

From January 2014, they told their store would undergo some changes, which involved the pricetags being not viewable anymore, so you had to ask about prices by sending them an e-mail.

Fast forward to December 2014, I find both http://www.arcade-gear.com and http://www.jap-sai.com to be unaccessible. What happened?

EDIT: I tried to send them an e-mail, but both servers aren't accepting any incoming messages.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a component cable, either SCPH-10100 (PS2 branded version) or SCPH-10490 (PS3 branded version).
If you have both, I'd prefer the SCPH-10490 over the older one. But eventually it all boils down on the price including shipping to Germany.

My Turbo Duo, which has been fully recapped last year and gave me hours of fun, does suddenly struggle powering up. Not even the LED lights up when switching the system on.

I've checked the power supply for faults. It's a Goobay universal power supply ( http://www.premium-cable.de/Goobay-Netzteil-stabilisiert-flach-ACDC-5V-6V-7V-8V-9V-10V-11V-12V-5200mA-60W_p5921_x2.htm ), the output is set to 10V DC with the correct pin assignment. No trouble here.

Last time my console refused to work, I did a simple case reassembly to fix it even if I couldn't locate the root for the problem. Maybe there was just a bad solder joint somewhere?

I'll repeat the same, but I would also like to know if there are any signs to look out for once I got the console opened up.

I got the silly idea of making my Turbo Duo look a bit more colorful. That's why I would like to equip it with the switch/button covers of the PCE Duo. I wonder if anybody got some spares at hand, e.g. from parts donor consoles?
