if you thought the laseractive was obscure, this ups the ante.  for all you msx lasderdisc owners out there, here is a game:

Gents,

My 1st generation pioneer plasma has an 15-pin vga input labelled 'analog rgb' as a pc connection.  My question is, can i connect my dreamcast with a vga cable to this input?

I cant find much tech data on the pioneer tv.  I basically just need to know if tv manufacturers considered vga an analog rgb connection.  I know it isnt really, but that doesnt mean it wont work on this tv.  I just dont want to buy a decent dreamcast vga cable and not have it work

Gents,

I recently did the FM sound mod to my SMS and i am picking up compatible games.  I have a few but would like to add the following:

Cloud Master
Penguin Land
Shinobi
Fantasy Zone II

Looking for the case and manual for Rampage

PAL games:
Lucky Dime Caper (not an FM game, but i just want it)

I would like them with case and manual, but i need at least the case.

As far as pricing, my usual rule if thumb is to pay average ebay prices minus 10 percent and a small discount for multiple games.  I will pay via paypal as a gift.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Dreamcast stuffs
06/22/2017, 06:36 PM
Gents,

I have entered the world of Dreamcast recently and would like to pick up a few games.  Here's what I'm looking for for now:

Shenmue
Sonic Adventure 2
Marvel vs Capcom
Sword of the Berserk
Blue Stinger
Skies of Arcadia
Evolution: the World of Sacred Device
Armada
Shadow man
Legacy of Kain

I would like to pay average ebay prices -10% (i'm assuming the majority of the risk and there is no fee for this sale).  Im also willing to trade mod work such as recaps, region, and component video for our beloved PC Engine, but I can also do work on other consoles.  I recently did a Hi Def NES that turned out most excellent.

Let me know if you have anything I am looking for.

Edit:  marked 4 off the list.  thanks!

General Gaming / Space Berzerker question
01/18/2017, 05:20 PM
other than the green and black OBIs, the 2 Mega LDs in in the picture are identical in every way.  does anyone know what the difference is (other than maybe they ran out of green or black OBIs)?  my initial guess is one is the japanese release and the other is the US, but i have nothing to back that up.

Gents,

I picked up a broken Super CDROM with absolutely no sound.  Everything else, including the CD player itself worked fine, just no sound.  I ran it through the dishwasher and did a full recap.  Now I have sound.  Yay!  But now the CD player won't play discs.  Here's what is happening:

It will spin, the laser will start to read the disc, then after maybe 2 secs the screen will dim slightly and it will start all over again.  It will keep doing this until I turn the power off.  It never gets to the "please set disc screen".  I have messed around with the pots a bit, but there is minimal change.  There also isnt a guide for tweaking the pots on a Super CDROM, so I have been going off the Duo guide for now.

It seems like it is getting to a point in the early sequence (logic sequence?) and then failing a test and starting all over or something.  I don't have an oscilloscope or even know how to use one so that is probably out.

Any help is appreciated.  This is really frustrating because the damn thing was working before I "fixed" it.

Gents,

Just a little poll here.  I think some folks remove caps and voltage regulators.  Some only remove caps.  I dont know if anyone doesnt remove anything.  Anyway, I'm fixing a Super CDROM with zero sound and I was thinking of doing this for the first time.  I have never really had to in the past, but someone did a really shitty job of having a go at it before me, so I want to set myself up for success as much as possible.

Gents,

Can anyone give me the tip size for the DC out on the Super CDROM2?  I need to make a jumper cable.  Thanks!

-dan

edit:  i'm also assuming its center negative since the pc engine and both core grafx's are center neg.  let me know if i'm wrong
#11
Gents,

Like the title says.  Console only is fine.  AV Cable and controller would be nice but not necessary.  Prefer a CGII, but a PC Engine will get the J-O-B done.

Would like to pay around $60 for a CGII or $45 for a PC engine.  And i would pay a little more for cables or a controller.  Let me know if we can work something out.

Just like the subject says.  Those are the games I am currently looking for.  Here's what I have available for trade now:

I am also willing to trade mod work such as recaps, region, component or rgb mods in exchange for what I am looking for.  PM if interested

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB/WTT: Arcade Card Duo
05/03/2016, 10:29 AM
Long story short:  I gave away my Arcade Card Duo because I got also had an Arcade Card Pro.  The Pro doesn't fit in my current setup (pro-tip:  Pro cards wont fit in a PAC-N10).  I sold it to a forum member and now I need a little forum karma.

I would like to pay around $40.  Or, I can trade mod-work such as re-caps, region, or component video mods.  I have a pile of PC Engine RPGs/Digi Comics I can also trade:

Far East of Eden
Sword Master
Both Devil Hunter Yohko's
Dragon Knight II
Outlive
I might be talked into trading Dragon Slayer: LoH II and Tenshi No Uta I and II as well.

PM if interested.

Found this in the wild a few months ago and finally got around to recapping it this weekend.  It's been completely disassembled, cleaned, greased as required, and had its capacitors replaced.  It's in pretty good shape (see pics for condition).  Tested on original pressed CD and Super CDROMS, CDRs, pressed repros, pressed homebrew, and music CDs.

Also included is an original controller which has also been disassembled and cleaned, the original power supply (which is immaculate) and an original AV cable.  Price is $320 shipped anywhere in the CONUS.  Payment only accepted thru Paypal and as a gift (or add 2.9% +$.30 for buyer protection).

I also have a Crest of Wolf for sale in the PC Engine sales thread if interested.  I will drop $3 off the price if you want it.

Cheers!

decided to start a new thread on this since this isnt really a RGB mod (old thread).  i used Turbokon's v1 component board.  there are absolutely no jail bars to be found.  FEKA games are in black and white for some reason (must be the board design) but I play more Mega LD on this than FEKA anyway so no big loss there (glorious composite will suffice).  here's some pics (sorry for the daytime glare, you'll just have to trust me when i say those pixels could cut hard cheese):

This one stings a little.  I know one day I will regret this, but I'm selling my Super CDROM2 setup.  This thing is an absolute tank.  It has never failed to play a single CD be it an original game, pressed bootleg, homebrew, burned game, you name it.  The only thing wrong with it is the LED doesnt come on when a disc is playing, but it hasn't bothered me enough to fix it.

Since I have owned it, I have replaced all the capacitors and installed Turbokon's V1 component video PCB.  I used a 8-Pin DIN socket in the place of the factory socket, so an original AV cable (which is included) can be used instead of the custom component cable if you want.  If you have a modern flat screen TV please ensure it can use 240p signal prior to making an offer.

Everything you see in the pics below are included.  This includes the original controller, ac adapter, and av cable.  Also included is a factory replacement HOP-M3A replacement laser.  Price is $375 shipped anywhere in the 48-states.  PM if you have any questions.

FYI - I am not getting out of the Turbo game and I do not need money.  I just need to make some space and clear out some redundant systems (this is the last one I'm selling)

I might regret selling this one day, but for your consideration is my US TurboDuo.  It was region modded by the previous owner with a huge switch (just like KC mentioned in another thread), but the work was solid with heat shrink on all the connections and it works great, so I have left it alone.  It is the blue switch on the back in the picture.

Since I have owned it, I have replaced all the capacitors and installed Turbokon's V2 component video PCB.  I used a 8-Pin DIN socket in the place of the factory socket, so an original AV cable (not included) can be used instead of the custom component cable if you want.  If you have a modern flat screen TV please ensure it can use 240p signal prior to making an offer.

Lastly, the laser has been dialed in on thesteve's oscilloscope and it includes an additional HOP-M3 laser (not pictured).  Everything you see in the pic below is included.  Price is $400 shipped anywhere in the 48-states.  PM if you have any questions.

FYI - I am not getting out of the Turbo game and I do not need money.  I just need to make some space and clear out some redundant systems.

This will be my first big move with my collection.  If anyone has any good info to pass along, please let me know.  I should add that everything will be packed and shipped by a moving company.

I'm most concerned about my boxed stuff.  I'm not a cardboard whore, but at the same time, I have a couple really nice boxes I don't want pummeled to death by some ham-handed movers.  If I do the damage, that's one thing, I can live with that.  I want to set the moving company up for success and minimize my frustration.

Gents,

I have recently acquired a Pioneer Laseractive.  I have been looking for one for over a year and the numbers finally made sense.  My intent has always to get a PAC-N1 (or N10.... joh crystal charging) to go along with it.

What is the best way to go about achieving my goal?  I can raise the funds for a reasonably priced one, but I'm not going to pay stupid money ($500+).  Is the best route ebay (bleh), yahoo.jp auctions with a shipping service, the forums (help a brova out), or somebody's cousin in japan (i actually have a few friends in japan (mostly in okinawa) but they are not gamers and would need very specific instructions on what to do (ie. what shop to go to and how much to pay))?  Or is there some othe way?

Any tips on how to make this happen are appreciated.  Thanks!

-dan

I have a pair of Turbopads that need new homes.  I firmly believe these have never been used, however, the boxes are far from "case fresh" condition.  See the pics below.

One is definitely in the better condition of the two of them.  Let's call the "less nice" box a little worse for wear in one of the corners and along its bottom side.  The nicer of the two boxes is the one with the small tear in the upper right hand corner on its back side.

All that being said both controllers are in "never used" condition with their plastic trays fully intact and with all the paperwork that came with them.  This includes the instruction sheets, registration cards, and preview booklets.   Both controllers still have the protective film on them

I would prefer to trade these.  Here are the games I am currently looking for:

Dragon's Curse
Military Madness
Bloody Wolf
Monster Lair
Shape Shifter

However, I would be willing trade these for cash money as well.  Let's say:

For the Nicer one:  $40 shipped (CONUS only please or Germany)
For the Less Nice one:  $30 shipped

If I don't get any interest by Sunday night, I will throw them on Feebay.

I have a loose Blazing Lazers w/Manual in really nice shape I would like to trade.  The manual looks barely used (no creases on spine) and the cart has no scratches.  I will even throw in a sparky label.

Here's the manuals I am looking for:

Ordyne
Aero Blasters
Sidearms
Order of the Griffin
Dead Moon
Soldier Blade
Jackie Chan
Time Cruise
Shockman
Hit the Ice
Psychosis

I am also looking for some games as well.  Here is that list:

Shapeshifter
Monster Lair
Bloody Wolf
Dragon's Curse
Military Madness
Exile

I realize there might need to be some cash thrown in to even things out.  If you aren't interested in Blazing Lazers and have some of what I am looking for, I would also trade chedda or scrilla (as required).

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: TG-16 Console PCB
01/02/2015, 02:46 PM
I am looking to buy a working console deck PCB for a project.  A power supply would also be nice (does not need to be OEM).  If it doesnt have the RF shield, that's OK too.

If I cant get just a PCB, I am willing to buy a basket case console (would like it to work, but if its at least fix-able I will consider it).  The casing doesnt matter to me at all (I am taking the board out anyway)

Let me know if you can help me out.

OK, i know this issue has come up before, but i cant verify if anyone has actually accomplished this mod before, so i am bringing up again.  bear with me.

as many of you know, i live in germany so i got an opportunity to buy one of these slick grey units.  it really was sort of a throw in for a larger lot that i bought and i thought it would make a great next project.  these guys say they have done it, but they arent revealing how they do it as far as i can tell:

http://www.otakus-store.net/en/nec-pc-engine-gt-duo/48-turbografx-16-rgb-60hz-region-free-mod.html

could i send my shiny new unit (sts) to them?  sure i could, but that wouldnt be any fun.  so here's what i have been able to discover in a couple hours of research:

1.  first step is to swap out the 17.73448mhz crystal oscillator with a 21.47727mhz oscillator.  i also believe the 21.47727mhz oscillator needs to be a temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO).  if this is the case it would mean going from a 2-pronged crystal to a 4-pronged crystal.  so how would one go about wiring that up?

2.  once you have the oscillator swapped, the system will now be in black and white. so to restore color you need to tap the Hu6260 directly for RGB.  if you can tap the expansion bus for this, please let me know because that is much easier to use for the RGB mod.  im not sure why the color gets stripped out by the PAL mod, but i believe it has something to do with the CXA1145 chip that was added to the PCB

3.  speaking of the CXA1145, i have also read there may be something that needs to be done to one of the pins on it (pin 6 or 7?).  really not sure why this needs to be done exactly.  any info on this is appreciated.

that's all i have so far.  the system is in the mail, so i have a day to 2 before i can even get started.  more importantly, i need to source a 21.47727mhz oscillator.  i believe this one will work, but i dont really want to pay that much so if anyone knows where i can get one for cheaper or has one in a donor console they can sell me, that would be awesome:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ONE-PIECE-PRECISION-0-3ppm-21-47727MHz-21-47727M-DIP-TCXO-/141476232325?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20f0a3fc85

any help is appreciated.  i know fidde_se and thesteve have piped in on previous posts about this.  maybe they will on this one too.  any help is appreciated.

General Gaming / HD Retrovision
11/16/2014, 02:35 PM
i did a search and didnt see this, so i thought I would throw this out there for everyone.  basically, from what i can tell, its a component cable for the snes and genesis with the sig amp built into the cable.  so you just plug it into your console and go.  no installation necessary.  for the genesis they actual have a different cable for each model.  its in kickstarter, but the funding goal is met.  it actually looks really affordable at only $35.  more info here:

Looks like my AC Adapter has bitten the dust.  It blew its fuse about a month ago and I replaced it.  The fuse is still intact, but the transformer is stone cold.  I'm not getting any voltages over 1V on it anywhere.  Anybody got any thoughts on how to fix it?  If its not worth fixing, whats a good replacement?  I could get any 12V 1A positive ac adapter and canabalize the cord if i had to, but if there is a known solid replacement, I would prefer that.
#38
my coregrafx controller has lost pin 6 (no right or II).  i figure replacing the mini 8-din plug is the best fix.  the plug is encased in some sort of epoxy that looks like a chore to get apart.  i would like to just cut it and solder up a new plug, but i cant tell which colors go to which pins (because of the epoxy).  does anyone have a color coded pin out for the pc engine controller?  i cant seem to find a legit looking one on line.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Super Everdrive Group Buy
08/04/2014, 05:08 AM
All,

Bottom line up front:  I'm not trying to create a competing group buy with the SD2SNES GB that is in progress.  That Everdrive isnt what I'm looking for for a few reasons (cost being a big one).  If you are interested in the basic Super Everdrive, post here and lets see if we can put something together.  For more details on the Super Everdrive, go here:

http://shop.retrogate.com/Super-Everdrive-v2-SED2.htm

Details:  We need 10 folks to sign up/pay to make this happen.  The Group Buy cost for just the card (no cart housing or USB port) is $60.  I figure the cost per person for the reshipping (US only just to keep the math simple) would be around $68.  This would save you about $17 (including shipping).  I believe folks that want the USB port or Cart Shell can add that individually and it wont affect the group buy.

Fine Print:  I am active duty Air Force stationed in Germany which means I have a German and US address to ship to.  Retrogate does not ship to Germany.  So, if I ran this GB I would have to ship all the Everdrives to my US address.  This wont effect the cost, it will just take a long time since I think they would be shipped from Europe to the US and back to Europe.  Additionally, I would then have to ship everyone their Everdrives from here.  Again, the cost would be the same, it would just take a lot longer.  What I'm getting at is:  it would make more sense for someone other than me to head up this GB.

Anywho, post here if your interested.  We can work out who is doing what to whom once we get 10 folks signed up.  Let's make this happen.  I am going broke buying SNES carts because they are so damn pricey.

Commited:
1.  Schweaty
2.  Fidde_se
3.  clackattack
4.  Nec.game.head

This will probably be a little controversial since many of you think it would be defacing a Super CDROM2 by installing component jacks.  I am still kicking around the idea of replacing the stock DIN on it.  The only thing keeping me from that is the lack of component to DIN cables (at least I cant find one that has component and sound in the same cable).  And I've never built a cable like that, so I'm afraid it will come out looking like hacked ass.

I can't seem to find any pics of a Super CDROM with component jacks.  What do you think?  Straight out the back (what i'm leaning towards).  The power side or av side?  Someplace I havent thought of yet?

If you have done this mod to your console let me know how it worked out.  Even if you dont have a Super CDROM, I'm open to inputs.
#44
Gents,

I have reached the limits of my knowledge so I need a little help.

Background:  I am doing a repair for someone else.  It did not have any sound or pic, but according to the pics he sent, it did power on and the screen turned white at highest brightness setting.  When I got it, the battery compartment was corroded and the negative power lead was so corroded it just fell off the post during disassembly (i'm shocked this thing ever powered on).  I replaced the blue power lead and all the capacitors.

Current State:  TE powers on with backlight on the screen and nice loud sound, but no pic at all.  The brightness adjustment also doesnt change the pic at all.  Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe even when the CC501 cap is bad you still get brightness adjustment if the backlight comes on (assuming no other faults).  So, I have a TE with sound, but a black backlit screen.

While replacing the capacitors, 2 pads lifted.  The 1st pic below is the CC700 cap.  Its kind of hard to tell in the pic, the the pad is indeed lifted.  I soldered the negative end to a hole near the pad after scraping back to the copper.  There were 2 holes near the pad and I have tried both with no change to the current state.  The second 2 pics show the pad clearly lifted from CC501 (video cap).  The negative pad also lifted and it is currently soldered to the TestPoint described by Charlie to fix a lifted negative pad.  I also tried soldering it to the hole just below the '0' in "501" and i scraped back to the copper of the lead going to the chip with "BA" on it (cant remember what it is called right now) that Duo-R described in his post (pink oval).  That also had no effect on the current state.  As you can tell, I've gone thru all the fixes described in the cap replacement thread for a lifted CC501 negative pad

I have also swapped the screen with one that I know works and still get the same result.  I'm all out of ideas.  Any help is appreciated

folks,

where is a good place to pick up some Red, Blue and Green RCA panel mount jacks?  I found some here: http://www.vetco.net/  but they charge $5.50 for shipping and there is a $9 minimum order.  Seems a bit much to me.  All I have been able to find anywhere else are all just red/black (ebay, amazon, etc...)

I'm thoroughly confused on RGB modding.  If I RGB mod my Super CDROM2 to 15khz RGB output, will I be able to just plug that into a Sony Vega w/ YPbPr  inputs?

or any equivalent screws.  color doesnt matter.  they just need to do the job.  I live in Germany, so I cant exactly rundown to the True Value to get what I need and I had no luck at the local hardware store.

If you have a donor TE with the screws, I would like to buy them from you.  I've also heard a TV Tuner has the same screws in it.

Background:  I bought a grubby broken TE off ebay.  I got it all cleaned up and working but it doesnt have the screws.  The lack of screws wasnt in the description or obvious in the pics.  I probably would've bought it anyway  :P

Can the super cdrom play arcade cd's with the arcade duo card?  Since it has the super system card built in (which is basically just more ram...the same amount of ram as a duo), it seems like all it should need is a arcade duo card to "top up" the ram to a full arcade card.  I'm fairly certain the answer to this question is 'YES', but I havent been able to find anything that explicitely says so

Alright, I know this is a PCE/TG16 repair thread, but I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for elsewhere and there are some very knowledgeable folks on this forum.  It seems like the general concepts are the same, so I will offer it up here.

So, I have a non-functioning SNES-101.  It will not power up.  The power adapter works; it puts out the right voltage on the multimeter.  The fuse checks good on the continuity test.  The jack also shows continuity on the multimeter.

Here's where it gets interesting:  the voltage regulator is only showing 4V on the input and 2.3V on the output.  Its a 5V 7805 regulator, so it needs at least around 6.5V or so to work.  I'm willing to get a new regulator (its only about $2) but I don't think that will fix it.  It seems like there is a low-voltage issue somewhere.  I might re-solder the jack to the pcb and replace the voltage regulator if that doesnt work.

The guy I bought it from says it quit working after an electrical storm.  Anyone have any ideas?  Is it a prime candidate to be gutted and turn into an emulator box?  Is there someplace else I should take this question to?  Any input is appreciated.
