Obviously, because of the nature of my YouTube channel, release dates of old video games are of particular interest to me. A few years ago I got some help from a few folks here in trying to piece together the likely launch lineup for the TurboGrafx-16, but since then I have found a great resource for release information from back then, in the "Computer Entertainer" newsletter. Every month they had a list of games for each system, which included both the expected release month of games not out yet, and more importantly marked games that had shipped out to stores since the last newsletter.  So say in October you might see "Blazing Lazers" listed as expected to release, and then the following month it would be marked as having already shipped. So you can more or less narrow things down to the month that they came out. So with that in mind, here is a list of the TurboGrafx-16's releases for 1989.

Aug/Sept 1989 (Initial Launch)
Alien Crush
Dungeon Explorer
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones
The Legendary Axe
Victory Run

October 1989 (National Roll-Out?)
Blazing Lazers
China Warrior
Power Golf
Vigilante

November 1989
Dragon Spirit
Fantasy Zone
Galaga '90
R-Type
World Class Baseball

December 1989
Moto Roader
Side Arms Hyper Dyne
World Court Tennis

Hey guys,

I need a few games for an upcoming episode of my show, and figured I would ask here before turning to eBay.  Games need to be CIC (outer cardboard not needed) and in nice condition (but certainly not mint).

Looking for:
Dragon Spirit
World Court Tennis
Monster Lair

Thanks!

I finally got around to RGB modding a little white PCE that I've had forever.  Completed the work, and it isn't working properly.  Did some troubleshooting and found that the C-Sync line is bridged with 5V, which is pretty consistent with what I saw on the screen.  I checked my solder points and they are definitely not shorted.  Pins inside the expansion port aren't bent.  Any ideas?

EDIT: THIS IS NOW SOLD TO A FELLOW GOODWILL-HATER!  I EXPECT HAT PICS!

Want to become a PC Engine Fanatic but don't know where to start?  This package will get you well on your way to being a TRUE PC ENGINE AFICIONADO.  $40 shipped (just $28 plus $12 for postage) nets you the following, shipped in an OFFICIAL USPS PRIORITY MAIL BOX:

Hyper Dyne Side Arms (CIC) - AMAZING CAPCOM HORI PEW-PEW ACTION!  Manual is a bit wrinkly.  Includes HuCard sleeve.

Valis II (disc and manual - no rear insert) - SIDE-SCROLLING ACTION PLATFORMING WITH SUPER-SWEET ANIME CUTSCENES, AND IT'S NOT EVEN A SUPER CD GAME!!  Our very own sunteam_paul has SHOWERED THIS GAME WITH PRAISE using phrases like "slightly crummy gameplay, but strangely hard to actually dislike."  CALM DOWN PAUL, YOU SOUND LIKE A VALIS FANBOY!!!

The Pro Yakyuu Super - REALISTIC BASEBALL ACTION FEATURING ACTUAL JAPANESE PLAYERS AND TEAMS!  There might be a spine card in there I guess, but I am too lazy to look.  But if you even care, you need to listen to Ron Jeremy and STOP BEING A COLLECTARD.

But that's not all!  Complete the look with an amazing NEW ERA 5950 "OBEY" FITTED CAP!  Let everyone know that YOU OBEY AND THEY DON'T!  CUT AHEAD IN LINES, EAT FRENCH FRIES WITHOUT GAINING WEIGHT, AND STEAL YOUR NO-GOOD BROTHER'S H-A-W-T GIRLFRIEND!  Size 7 3/4 to accommodate your over-sized brain!  Even still has the sweet BLING BLING gold NEW ERA sticked under the bill.  NEVER WORN!

All this would easily run you INCALCULABLE SUMS at your local USED VIDEO GAME SHOP run by some guy who has to flip-gouge video games for a living because he FLUNKED OUT OF TRADE SCHOOL, but JIBBAJABA'S PC ENGINE PARTY BUS doesn't stop there!

You'll also get a Monoprice PC ENGINE CONTROLLER EXTENSION CABLE.  This is the exact same cable being flipped on eBay for 1000% OF IT'S ACTUAL VALUE!!!  SIT BACK FARTHER FROM THE TV thus protecting your gonads so that you can REPRODUCE EVEN THOUGH IT'S PROBABLY NOT A GOOD IDEA. 6 big feet of EXTENSION ACTION.  That's 72 inches, almost 183 centimeters, or the length of over 18,000 GRAINS OF SAND!!!

Act fast because this package WON'T LAST LONG!!  N00blet market leeches need not apply!!

I have a Duo-RX controller in good condition, and am looking to trade it for an Avenue Pad 6 or Hori Fighting Commander.  Not sure what their relative values are, but I'm sure we can come to an agreement.  LMK!

Hey guys,

I run the Turbografx/PCE and Turbo CD HSCs over on Atari Age.

http://atariage.com/forums/forum/167-tg-16pc-engine-high-score-club/

I was originally thinking of doing a cross-board HSC where I would just post every round here as well, but since these forums are closed to non-members, AA members would have to sign up here in order to see your scores.

So anyway, I am just making you guys aware in case anyone is interested in participating.  The Turbo CD has very low participation, so some fresh blood would be awesome.

Thanks!

I have a stack of loose PCE Hueys that I don't want.

I'll take a picture later since I'm at work, but there's Victory Run, R-Type I, maybe Samurai Ghost and some other shit in there.  There's maybe 8 of them, I dunno.

Edit: Got the stack in front of me now.  Necromancer, Energy, R-Type I, Victory Run, Space Harrier, Samurai Ghost, some fucken Mahjong Academy deal, Benkei Gaiden, Momotarou Densetsu Turbo, and Super Momotarou Dentetsu 2.

Here's the deal though.  This isn't going to be a random drawing.  So how do you win this AMAZING STACK OF OBEY?

Guess the final total of the RetroVGS crowdfunding campaign, without going over!

IMG

Since we don't know how long the campaign will be, I am going to have to set an arbitrary end date/time once it gets posted, but it's going to be SOON, so get your guesses in now!!!

Normal raffle rules apply.  No n00blets, leeches, flippers, or people I don't like (which is like 3 people, so probably not you.)

This post was formatted to make it look as obnoxious as possible, but I assure you that this raffle is real.

Hey guys,

I've been doing research trying to get an idea of around when each of the early Genesis games was actually released.  This has included scouring Usenet posts, sales ads, and forum threads (including here!).  I've put together a spreadsheet with windows of time for each game, along with the claimed (but unsubstantiated) release date for each according to Wikipedia and GameFAQs.   Basically I am just trying to narrow down these windows as much as possible, which is the best we can really hope for since games didn't have hard street dates back then.  Some of the games I have down to a 2-week window, which is very good, but others can still be improved-upon quite a bit.

Basically what I am looking for is any information that anyone has that can help narrow these down.  Like your birthday is November 15th and you know for sure that you got games A & B that day, or whatever.  Vague memories are not really going to help, but something more concrete would be great.

I am going to want to continue with later games, going into February 1990 and beyond, so if anyone wants to chime in on those then that would be great, too.

Those early and late limit dates are not really set in stone, either.  They are just based on what concrete information I could find.

Thanks!

Chris

Hey guys,

I've been trying to play a bunch of DE lately, and although the game is obviously great, I obviously suck at it.  Bad.  Mainly I've been trying to figure out which character class is best for single-player play.  I feel like I try not to play the game like it's Gauntlet and just power my way through everything, but I still end up getting killed a lot.

Thanks for any tips that you can provide.  I tried searching the forums, but the search function ain't the greatest, and this site doesn't appear to be searchable with Google.

Thanks!

Just looking for a common one, here.  It's the only launch game that I don't have, and I'd like to do a TG16 launch retrospective for my YouTube channel.

Not looking for charity, just not looking to pay eBay prices.

Hey guys,

I want to make an adapter for using a custom arcade stick on my Turbo, but I really don't want to sacrifice a controller to do it.  Does anyone know what encoder chip the turbo controller uses, and if there is a version of it that's still available?

If not, does anyone have a broken controller that they want to sell on the cheap?

Thanks!

SIZE L.

I bought this shirt last month and it just doesn't fit me.  I normally wear size L tees, but American Apparel and whatnot.  These 1CC shirts are a lot more "roomy" than I prefer.  It has been washed once but never worn (aside from me trying it on).

Low post count n00bs and sales forum lurkers need not apply.  I'll end the raffle when I feel like it.

Good luck!

Hey guys,

On top of doing the Classic Gaming Quarterly website for several years now, I am now doing YouTube videos.  If no one minds, I'll use this thread to post new videos whenever I upload them.  Constructive criticism, subscriptions, and requests are all welcomed!

Today I uploaded a retrospective of the Streets of Rage series on the Genesis.
Thanks!

Hey guys,

I didn't see this already posted here anywhere, and figured that you guys would want to know.  Some dude over on N-G.com started this 1cc shirts deal, which are just one-off runs of RetroGaming-themed shirts.  This month's is a pretty sweet Hudson Soft shirt.  I'm not affiliated with this in any way; I just thought some of you guys would want to grab one.

Only 5 days left to order!

I'm looking for an old 2X CD-ROM drive from the early 90's.  The model number is CR-563 (or CR-563-B), and it was sold under three different brand names; Creative, Panasonic, and Matsushita. If any of you guys have one laying around in a junk pile, help a brutha out.

Thanks,

Before anyone gets too excited, these both *may* have issues.  The card with the R-Type label works, but I have to gently lift up on the card while loading a game.  This could be the card, or could be my setup here.  The cart with the planes on the label used to work, but I did something to format it the wrong way or something, and now the flashing program doesn't recognize it.  Could be totally fixable, though.

This is *1* raffle for both cards (meaning that one winner will receive both).  The reason I am raffling these off is that considering their possible issues, I just don't feel right accepting money or trade fodder for them.  I have a Turbo Everdrive now, so these are no longer needed.

As an interesting aside, the R-Type card used to be owned by one of the founding staffers of Die Hard Gamefan, and the creator/founder of Hardcore Gamer magazine.  So maybe that's cool.

RULES:  The only "rule" I have is that you need to be a part of the PCEFX community.  Someone could have 300 posts but just be here to buy & sell, or someone could have 50 posts, but actually be here to talk about turbobs.  So no minimum post count.

Also, if you already have a flash card, maybe leave this for people who don't.  But that's up to you.  And don't just win these, fix them up, and sell them.  If you get both working perfectly, re-raffle one of them or keep it as a backup.  Again, that's not a rule, just a request.

Good luck!

Chris

Putting someone on "ignore" is the online equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and going "LALALALALALA" when they're trying to talk.

I think RegalSin is a psycho, too, but I still don't ignore him.  I generally read posts before I look to see who wrote them.  Whenever I read a post and start thinking "WTF?!?", it invariably ends up being Regal.

Chris

Would anyone be interested in an HSC here?  Especially now that there are several flash carts available for the system, which would mean that we wouldnt have to worry about who has what games.  Obviously you don't HAVE to have a flash cart, but if you don't have a huge collection, it would help.

I run the NES HSC over at Atari Age, but I think that a Turbob HSC over here would be awesome.

Hey,

Not much interest in these when I offered them up for trade, so I might as well raffle them off.  I'm sure that there must be a few people around here who don't have these.

What I have are loose copies of Power League III and F1 Pilot.  Both come with a brand spankin' new huey sleeve, which I bought from that dude who started selling sleeves on eBay.  I will cover the cost of shipping.

I am raffling them off separately, so indicate which game you are interested in (or you can go for both if you want.)

N00bs are welcome to enter, as long as they were registered users prior to the raffle starting.

I just got a Duo-RX pad in the mail.  It acts as if the left direction is always being pushed.  I took the controller apart so that there was no chance that the conductive rubber was touching the contacts, and it still does it.  I didn't see any obvious problems, like a short somewhere.  Could it be anything else besides the IC being bad?  I'd really like to get this controller working...

Thanks,

Chris

I just got a PCE, and I am wondering if there are any good online sources for PCE games besides eBay?  Rising stuff used to have a good selection but they closed their store, and Play-Asia has next to nothing.  Where do you guys order your stuff from?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi all,

I just got a PC Engine, but I don't have any games to play on it.  I am looking for whatever, especially cheap commons.  Just some games to mess around with.  I have a PCE Duo so both HuCard and CD games would be great.  Games can be Japanese or US (where applicable) unless otherwise noted (my system is region-modded but I prefer PCE games since they're usually cheaper and have cooler box/label art).

Here are some specific titles that I'm looking for.  I'll keep updating the list with new stuff as I read more.

Arcade Card Duo (would prefer it to be complete)
Air Zonk/PC Denjin
Bikkuriman World
Davis Cup Tennis
Deep Blue
Ganbare Golf Boys
Gradius
Kunio Dodgeball
Naxat Open
Moto Roader (US only)
Power Golf II
Power League II
Power League III
Power League IV
Pro Tennis World Court
Knight Rider Special
Time Cruise
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
World Circuit
Ys I + II (US version only)

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

First of all, I know I'm a newb around here, but I assure you that I did not sign up just to sell my stuff.  I just found this site a few weeks ago after starting up my TG16 collection again.  Also, I have good trader feedback on Digital Press and Atari Age (same user name).

I made a couple of extra TurboGrafx-16 stereo AV cables while writing up an article on how to do so for Classic Gaming Quarterly.  The cable you will receive will be exactly like the one in the pictures in the article (and in fact *is* the one in the pics in the article).  Each cable is about 2 feet long, so you will have to have your system right next to the TV unless you want to use an extension cable.

I am asking $10 shipped per cable (shipping outside the CONUS is extra).

You can see the cables here.

Chris
