Hey gang! Another Canadian has joined forces with the PCEFX community. I'm Andrew, tucked away on the east coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Am I the first Scotian to join the forums?? I've been an avid gamer since 1988 when my family got their first console, a Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas and I've been collecting since 2006 when I first started feeling nostalgic for those old school games. Fortunately I had the foresight to get into NES collecting early before many resellers, gougers and speculators entered the hobby. Unfortunately for Turbografx/PC Engine, I did not.

I only had one friend that had access to a Turbografx-16 growing up and I only got to play it a handful of times. It was his older brother's system and he absolutely coveted it so play time was hard to come by. But I do have distinct memories of playing and really enjoying Bonk's Adventure, Legendary Axe and China Warrior.

Nowadays I mostly like to play shooters. And that's what brought me to this site and into the world of PC Engine gaming/collecting. Over 100 shooters available on the system? WOW!! Sign me up please! I got a recapped region modded TurboDuo from Keith Courage 8 months ago and I've been playing and clearing more games than I ever have in my life. Thanks Keith, I absolutely love the system! I am trying to collect all the shooters (minus some of the crazy expensive ones) and anything else that's awesome. I don't really love the collecting/acquisition stage so I want to buy these as quickly as my wallet will allow so that I can sit back and enjoy having a library of great games that I can play for the rest of my life.

The Selling Forum doesn't seem very active on here but I did make a few deals a few months back. Does everybody just use eBay these days for turbo pce purchases? If anybody has controllers for sale please let me know. Hope to talk games with you fine folks! Happy to be on board.

Heh, welcome Andrew! I didn't know you had done business with Keith, that's good.

I sort of unintentionally coaxed Andrew into an introduction because I messaged him to compliment his love of lurking and browsing our long illustrious forum history... ;)

Yep, like Dave Shadoff: producer of Kisado TG-16 Region Adapter, my Ys IV localization project teammate/co-programmer/co-dev, and the pcecp.com co-dev, plus the Motteke Tamago fan localization project (and others), etc. Technically Chris Covell is a Canadian export too that landed in Japan to teach.

I tried to get my friend Chris Obritsch to stay, we had him only for a short while, he goes way back to my original PC Engine forum home (RIGG/Retro ISO Gaming Guild), but alas he's "too cool/famous" for us "ruffians" now that he's in the Kickstarter big leagues with his Battle Princess Madelyn game... He was known as "Buckets" LoboDaMainMan if that rings a bell back then. We had no idea whatsoever he'd become a successful videogame developer since he was the joker of the forum.

Anyway, yeah, there are a few other noteworthy Canucks around.

Thanks for the warm welcome. That's cool to know there are plenty of Canadians and even a fellow Haligonian!

'Tis true Nightwolve- I always like to do my research on a forum before I start posting. There's definitely been a colourful history here!

I've done deals with Keith Courage, CrackTiger, tg16manaic a few months back when the BST forum was more active. If I get any doubles I'll be sure to post them here for sale at non eBay prices.

We will still welcome you with open arms regardless of your past sins...

Sounds like a common situation, but at least you got some more play time with turbo than at a TRU kiosk!

For the "acquisition" part, I assume you mean the hunt and high prices? If not having shelf porn is appealing to you, the flash cards and even the new SSD3 can give you the ability to experience the games. Then, at your leisure you can keep an eye out for deals and sales of games you know you enjoy instead of buying the first(and rarely the best) deal online you come across.

As for buying, for me, I got most of my games in the 90's and been buying obey since then. I recently traded most of my US library for the JP counterpart since I have more PCE systems(my only US system is an Express). But even when searching for JP versions I would shop at game conventions, forums and YAJ.

Welcome aboard.  What shooters do you currently have or at the very least what are your top 3?  What shooters do you need?  I am a proud owner of an original Sapphire CIB.  Bought it off this forum.  You need the Arcade Card for that one though.

Apparently I do best at lurking as I hadn't noticed Majors and Tbone responded to this until 3 weeks later. Embarrassing haha.

Majors- I have to admit I am quickly converting from NES to NEC! For the first time ever I considered selling some of my NES games I don't play much to fund some PC engine purchases.  Yeah, I probably got slightly more turbo time than at a TRU Kiosk but not much. Feisty older brothers don't love to share when they are obeying. Who can blame them?! The first thing I purchased after getting my PCE Duo was a Krikzz Turbo Everdrive. I've had a little more trouble working it than I'd like to admit and I've had plenty of games to keep me busy so it's taken a backseat.

TBone- I have played the majority of shooters on the system and don't think I could limit it to a top 3. My 5 favorite PCE originals
at this point are: Nexzr, Soldier Blade, Air Zonk, Gate of Thunder and Download.
My 5 favorite PCE arcade ports at this point are: R Type, Gradius II, Super Raiden, Aeroblasters and Cotton.
Even that was tough as I wanted to add Kyukyoku Tiger, Salamander, Spriggan, Sapphire and many others. Oh man what a great system.
