I know mods don't have the power to ban people and I'm not looking to ban anyone right now, but is there some kind of "infraction" thing we can use?

I'm talking about this:

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4612.45

Nat said he had to delete an entire thread earlier (I didn't see the offenses).  Nat sugests ignoring.  I suggest infractions.  2 infractions should equal a 1 week ban.  After that if the user should earn another ban, it would be permanent.  Thoughts?

nat

For lack of a better system at this particular moment I suggested ignoring.

Some kind of infraction system would definitely be beneficial here. After I deleted his fairly brutal attack he started trolling and pushing buttons to see if he could get a reaction from the mods. At this point I though it best to ignore him (don't feed his obvious appetite for attention), but an infraction would gladly have been issued if available.

nat

I'd also like to add that while Kitsunexus has always been one of the more verbose members here, he seems to have remained more or less in line since he started posting here a year ago.

Again, this is another case of beef started on another forum that has been brought to home soil.

Joe Redifer

I'm not sure why Kitsunexus has a beef with the new member, and I haven't seen the new member starting anything.  Kitsunexus has bragged about how he's been banned from dozens upon dozens of forums in the past, maybe this will be just one more to his count.

I have locked this thread and I feel that Kitsune needs a ban.  But the only thing I can do right now is lock the thread.  I can't actually do anything about Kitsunexus.  I know one thing, and that is ignoring this is NOT an option.  If he is trying to get banned, I say we oblige.  Give him a week.

nat

At this point I agree.

He has blatantly disregarded warnings from myself and Joe and is continuing attempts at instigating.

Aaron, it'd be nice if us mods had the power to initiate temporary bans for times like these although I understand the reasoning behind wanting to reserve that power.

Either way, here is vote #2 in support of a 1-week warning ban.

Joe Redifer

Another good reason to have banning power is if this forum ever gets spammed.  That way we can stop it right away.  Having the ability to view and compare IPs would help as well.  Kitsunexus threatened some sort of 400-member spam flood in the chat room.  I don't take him seriously, but it wouldn't surprise me if he tried to sign up under a new name a few times.

I will ban Kit for a week to let him cool off.  I will talk more about this later.

EDIT 1: I'm not going to ban him.  I just PM'd him asking him to ignore the other user in this situation.  If he comes back for more, I'll ban him for a week no problem.

I think the rule should be only one warning, then a week ban.  No need to give them two chances before a ban.  Will talk more about this later...

Kit got back to me - he's leaving the forum for good.  I'll probably give you guys banning powers.  Again more later.

Yeah, that's what I meant, an "infraction" before a week ban should be standard.  "Infractions" should expire after a set amount of time.

Anyway I'm sure Kitsunexus will eventually calm down and reappear.

Keranu

I believe this is Kitsune's third time attempting to leave. He usually comes back in less than half a day.

You guys might be right, but I get the feeling this time it's different. He all but stated to me numerous times that he outright refuses to be civil to this new user (which blows my mind as the new user seems about as docile as they come), and knowing that we aren't going to permit any further attacks I'm skeptical how much more of him we're gonna see around here.

There is obvious serious back history between them that started on another forum somewhere that he refuses to let go of. Until he can find a little maturity in himself to keep those feelings in check, I think it's best that he does stay away.

Joe Redifer

According to the new user (Game and Watch Kirby), this is the first forum she's ever signed up on.  I have no clue what could be angering Kitsunexus so much about her.

Keranu

They got into a little fight on this PC-FX demo YouTube video just because Kirby didn't think the PC-FX was that good. I can try posting the link if you're interested.

Yeah, I'm curious.

PCEngineFX

Yah I highly doubt Kit will be back.  He sounded really dead serious about the issue.

Keranu, I'd like to see that link as well.

That's absolutely ridiculous. I just read the comments on that link by both Kitsunexus and DreamLifeKirby or whatever her name is and it's perfectly clear Kirby was not trying to insult anyone. I don't even see anything there (by either individual) that is grounds for the type of personal attack that I ended up deleting from the forums here. I should have saved it before deleting it. I think the only other person besides me that saw it was The Old Rover.

In that YouTube thread she simply stated her opinion of the PC-FX (even though it's obvious she's never owned one, but then, neither has Kitsune) which is completely within her rights. She even apologized there in her rebuttal for being slightly abrasive with her original assessment.

Kitsunexus was way, way out of line on this one.

Well speak of the devil...Kit came back.  He told me in a PM that he won't cause any drama....

I saw it too before you deleted. Xiphas actually went in his cache and posted it on my IRC channel as well, so now we have it forever  .

I want to see!  I want to see!

nat

In the latest episode in the saga, Kitsunexus has created a parody account of the Kirby user.

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4655.msg77925

Joe Redifer

I almost find humor in him responding to himself.

nat

Yeah it's kind of amusing at this point. I'm just hoping it doesn't get out of hand.

Joe Redifer

I closed this thread because I thought it was in very poor taste:

Geez.  It doesn't take too much for Kits to fly off the handle.

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4684.15

nat

Joe you jerk, I just spent 20 minutes (literally) typing a long reply to SignOfZeta and you go and lock the thread so when I go to hit "Post" I can't post it.

EDIT: As far as Kitsunexus goes though, yeah, he's been on reeeeaallly thin ice lately. Maybe he found out the girl he likes hates him or something.

Joe Redifer

Wha?  You should still be able to post in locked threads without any problem.  If it was because it was locked as you were typing, try copying all of your text, exiting the thread, entering and replying again with the pasted text.

nat

Oh, I probably could've (at the very least, unlocked it, posted, re-locked it) but you pretty much buried the topic with your last post. I decided to run with that.  :|

Joe Redifer

Man this guy likes to abuse other members a bit too much and for nearly no reason, in my opinion.

Quote from: Kitsunexus on 02/27/2008, 11:35 PMYOU FUCKING IDIOTS! CAN YOU NOT READ! I WAS AGREEING WITH YOU! ALL THOSE GAMES ARE CLASSICS! THEY ARE GOOD! WTF IS WRONG WITH THE BOTH OF YOU?

nat

Yeah it's becoming a recurring theme. He's perfectly fine 98% of the time but then he goes and has these random explosions of anger.

Joe Redifer

I would not have paid his post any kind of special attention had he just left off the first sentence.

Keranu

This is what makes Kitsune such a fun member to have though :) . It's just his shtick.

Well Kitsunexus decided to post a whole bunch of pictures of rotting corpses and dismembered body parts (all real) in the "Post Something Lovely" thread.  All mods/admins should have gotten the e-mail alert from Guyjin.  I edited his post and removed all the pictures.  Seriously, this guy needs a banning.  We are WAY to easy on this prick.

Keranu

Yeah I really didn't think that was called for either, especially since the lets "Lets post something awful" joke was already used multiple times - one horrorfying joke pic is enough. Not to mention that Kitsune's pics were really, really horrible.

Thank god I missed that.

I agree-- we seem to continue to let Kitsune off the hook more often than we should. At the very least, I opt for a general "warning ban." Otherwise I feel he'll keep pushing the envelope whenever it suits him because, hey, he always got away with it in the past.

nat

I'm really not trying to beat the ol' dead horse here, but even beyond what's already been stated, I'm now starting to get guff from other members when I ask them to pipe down.

I stepped in with a friendly "let's be civil" reminder here:

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4855.msg82604#msg82604

and almost immediately got PMs from both members involved that basically said "Well Kitsunexus is allowed to do it every day and nothing happens to him!"

Keranu

You never turned that on for us. If you did, I have no idea how to do it. You said you were going to, then I think you forgot about it (as did I).

That said, it'd be a big help to everyone if you did so.

PCEngineFX

Sorry, thought you guys had ban privilages.  I've turned it on for all mods.  Should be pretty easy to ban anyone now....

Thanks, I figured it out.

nat

I noticed someone already added the Kitsunexus ban.

Did that person send an e-mail his way letting him know why or does the system do that automatically in the case of temporary bans?

Joe Redifer

It likely does it when that person tries to log in and presents them with the reason provided in the "Reason to show user" dialog box.

I only prevented him from posting for 6 days, I didn't prevent him from logging on.

nat

How the hell is Kitsunexus posting? According to the Ban page, the ban is still in affect for three more days.

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4902.msg83527#msg83527

PCEngineFX

The "Ban Name' is not where you put the username.  You must add a "Ban trigger" and then add the username you want to ban in there.

nat

Ah, OK. Joe set the ban up this time, but that's good information to know for the future.

nat

I've modified and corrected the ban based on the fact that Kitsunexus didn't even know he was banned and therefor didn't experience any "punishment" for his actions. I extended the ban period 5 more days.

Joe Redifer

That is very, very weird.  Banning is more complicated than registering.  On vBulletin you just choose "Ban user" and select the duration and reason, and that's it.  SMF wanted to make it much more laborious, I guess.

I'm writing my congressman about this!
