My heartfelt thanks go out to all the men and women in the armed services; their dedication and sacrifice have kept this great country free and relatively safe.  Also, happy birthday today to the Marine Corp. on its 230th anniversary.

The Salvation Army is not associated with Veterans, but is rather a christian organization headquartered in the U.K.  They do a lot of good work around the world, but I refuse to donate to 'em due to their anti-gay rhetoric.

Really? I thought that the Salvation Army was just an organization for giving donated items to the poor around the world, and not one associated with religion or situated in the United Kingdom. Nonetheless, they're good to provide their services, too :P.

Up here we call it Remembrance Day, but it's the same thing. This is the day where we remember and honour the brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

In Canada we wear poppies in November in remembrance of our veterans. I think Britain does the same now as well.

A Canadian medical officer during WWI noticed how dense the poppy growth over the graves in Flanders, France. He wrote a poem about it during the war. The poem talks about Flanders fields, but it is really about the universal fear of forgetting the dead. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance so we'll never forget.
A Part of Our Heritage - Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

- John McCrae

Also this year, Britain and Canada held a joint ceremony to commemorate the 68,000 Canadian troops that died during WWI. All the soldiers names were projected on a vigil at Canada House in Britain.

Within two days, a feast can be enjoyed on Thanksgiving day here in America.

For everyone's awareness, I'll be leaving for my trip to Utah to visit my older sister for Thanksgiving (she'll be attempting to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the first time as I visit the new house she had moved in a few months ago). I'll be staying there from Wednesday to Sunday, and my flight leaves tomorrow at 5:50 P.M.

Should be December 8th on the Gregorian calander. Of course on the Hijri calander (the proper one in this case!), a new day starts when night begins.

Hmm... my calendar has it on the 9th; it must hate Muslims and wanted to make 'em late for the festivities.

No it's gonna take a lot longer than I originally expected. According to the official USCIS website, there is a 6 month processing time for our first document alone. According to this website it won't take quite that long, as they're currently processing applications received on September 24 (step 3) We are November 3, so about 5  more weeks for us, for that step. I'm hoping I can get her here in April, but I'd settle for June.

And in other news my car was stolen (again) over christmas break. My neighborhhood is populated by college students, so during vacations this part of town is deserted. During spring break, someone stole my car and used it to move stuff around, then left my car with the ignition turned on in the apartment parking lot. This time my car is gone. So I'm not going to be able to bring the games I planned on bringing, because I don't have a car to go get em.

Keranu

Please tell me they didn't steal your DeLorean! Bummer either way though.

I've had quite the nice Martin Luther King Jr. today myself. With my father, I went to Target, as I had a gift card there that he gave to me, and Best Buy, as a few Reward Zone program coupons came in the mail being vaild from 1/16/2009-1/22/2009 the day after I bought Kirby Super Star Ultra and WarioLand: Shake It! from one of the Best Buy stores around my area. At Target, I had purchased Super Smash Brothers Brawl, a game I highly anticipated getting for Christmas, and at Best Buy I bought Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 along with Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, two other games I wanted for the holidays but didn't get. Later, my father and I ate at the Feast Buffet at the Red Rock hotel and casino, which a lot of people were in the lines in the time we were waiting and left. I also had the chance to start Kirby Super Star Ultra today, as so far, it's been a pretty fun title for me (and with some decent challenge, too).

I know your pain. You can add "not being American" to my list as well. Here in Nova Scotia, after New Year's, we don't have a holiday until Good Friday.  :x It's bogus. Basically January, February, and March (depending on when Easter falls) without a holiday. Other provinces have added a holiday in February, but in Nova Scotian fashion, we're the last to get on these things....but we do have a world class recycling program....

Yes, there are some enhancements present. The visuals in this remake have been updated to the style to the Game Boy Advance and the other DS titles (Kirby's sprite retains the original design, but is of a dimmer pink and is less shiny). The cutscenes are in FMV in Kirby Super Star Ultra, though they only play on about 1/2-3/4 of the portion of the entire top screen, and do look quite lovely. A few new (unless they did appear originally) enemies have been noted to appear in this, which include a snapping alligator enemy (I do not know of its name) and a miniboss named Iron Mam that gives you the Fighter ability. There have been a few multiplayer games added for this version, which are available at the start of the game. Though most of the music has been remixed, a few of the original Super Nintendo tracks have remained the same in this game (such as Milky Way Wishes's intro and the boss fight against the Computer Virus).

The only bad circumstances I've come across are that the music is quiet, regardless of setting the sound to surround, stereo, or mono, and no sound volume dial is available in this game in order to adjust the output. Also, as I suspect to be due to the size of the touch screen portion useable for them, the in-game icons have been altered to a simple, round-shaped design, meaning that for the ablities, they are no longer represented to be of small icons of Kirby with the ability, but of only a simple representation of the power (the bomb ability, which had Kirby panically holding the bomb in the original verision is merely a bomb in the remake). There may be more general differences present between the two, but I do not know enough about the original to determine them, nor have I yet fully completed Kirby Super Star Ultra at this point.
