Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

well it certainly LOOKS like cho aniki. but I'm guessing that's not it...is knowing who that character is important?
#852
haha...I will! I just have not so much free time. I should've convinced you after I had a larger head start.
#854
god I can't even tell what to click anymore.
if someone puts it up in a proper place where I can just click the freaking link, I can mirror it on an actual website.
or email it to me, brandon at insert credit dot com
#855
you're further than I am I'm afraid. I'll let you know when I get there...got distracted by my 360 returning this week (and work...mostly work).
#856
metal stoker?
#857
yeah. that next purple boss was a bastard til I figured out I could just sword swipe him whenever he came near. shouldn't have wasted all those m-units on him!
#858
and btw, let me know if you need a quick primer on what all the upgrades do. Another thing I discovered - if you sell a weapon with one bullet left in it, it still sells for the same!

I wound up leveling myself way too much - I knew that if I kept the shield I'd be alright! I only used one M-unit on him. Hehe...oh well!
#859
oh, and I peeked ahead a bit via youtube videos some time ago, and you get at least one entire additional tier of upgrading, so don't worry about maxing out now.
#860
wow, you really did some grinding then! I guess the solution is to just stick it out. I feel like I'd do fine right now if I had a shield (I have it equipped and keep losing it on my way there - so I'll just purposefully lose it and equip it later. Should be a dequip option :\)

I always have a bunch of bazookas for whatever reason, so I'll just head down with a shield and slice/blast away. How'd you get a beam sword btw? Or are you just talking about the normal sword you can buy in town?
#861
I don't know if you take requests, but simpler classics I'd like to see revamped include:

Night Stalker
Tempest (bit difficult)
Shark! Shark! (you could use darius sprites!)
Fire Truck
Adventure!

#863
yeah, definitely don't pay the extra money!
#864
actually I think it might be alzadick again.
#865
yeah, it's blueraven's turn...
#866
yeah, a working designs retrospective thing would be cool! Oh, but to be clear, I should note that I'm Brandon Sheffield on the podcast (and also right now!) - I don't work at 1up, so I'm not in any way responsible for these - I just get invited sometimes!
#867
I totally want a crayon-drawn picture of bonk.
#868
ohhhh. I had done that already by trying to go beat the boss originally. man, that's complicated. heh. lemme know what you think of that boss!
#869
yeah, disguises are awesome.
#870
theeeere you go!!! winning!
#871
since you guys both came to that crazy conclusion simultaneously, I guess i'm doing this wrong - hint #2 - it's the opposite of what michael jackson gradually did during his lifetime.
#872
to get her out you've got to unlock the gate - put on the empire soldiers' clothing so you can get into all the buildings around there - in one, there's a guy behind a bar - walk up to the left and you'll hear the soldiers talking about the key to the gate being moved somewhere. the guy at the bar tells you the combo (it was RRLR if I remember, but you have to choose it in kanji). then at the other building you'll see the guys bringing a switch there, which basically looks like a save machine. input the code, then you'll hear a gate open, and if you go back to the cell she'll be gone. then you can get to the boss, too, once you leave the city and all.
#873
hint - it's not who he is, it's what he's doing, especially from 3-5.

lemmings was an amusing guess though.
#874
my new speculation is that I was not shooting him in the right spot. try aiming in different places and see if you can get his health bar to come up.
#875
it's funny cause I was going to guess princess maker earlier, but I thought "him having sex with her won't make her become a princess..." because I was thinking about the subject of the game too literally. heh. I got to the right conclusion using the wrong process!
#876
I'm 99% sure I got it, so here's my contribution. This shouldn't be too bad.

#877
well chad, let me know if you get to the freaking stupid boss I'm talking about :P
#878
ohhhhhh princess maker!
#879
Dynastic Hero?
#880
Hmm, I saw a bunch of what I now assume must've been bootlegs at liberty in akihabara two weeks ago. I'm back in the states now, so I can't check, but they were baffling to me because they were in the PC engine section, but had no PCE designation on them. I was worried I'd walk home with a drama CD or something (I think they might've been cds, not carts).

Oh well...next time. Unless someone else is in Tokyo and wants to check it out?
#881
oh, that doesn't fit the clues :(
Slot Gambler? hehe

It should be hi-leg fantasy though. cause that's funny.
#882
WAIT. Hi-leg Fantasy!?
#883
if king's quest were on the pce I'd say that.

romance of the three kingdoms?
#884
ah, I see!
and nat, that's horrid, that happened to me on the saturn once. Lost a whoooole lot of RPG saves, and never went back to any of the games that got screwed.

yeah, I'm totally stuck again though, trying to figure out how to beat this orange boss that has rotating guns all in the room, but which takes no apparent damage when I shoot him. then he shoots energy balls which kill me right away! There's some sort of shiny gate-looking thing behind him, but I can't get there. any help? I went back to town but didn't find any clues - I suspected maybe I could reflect his shots with my shield, but I can't manage to keep the thing until I arrive at the boss, heh.
#885
I'm about two hours into it after several days...I don't have much time to play it really.
#886
go through blood gear at the same time as me!
#887
Sadly I already saw a bit of it on youtube. I spoiled everything!

This game really is quite nice, I'm surprised more people don't talk about it, given how action-oriented it is. And the initial town music is great! Wish I knew how to strip it out into an MP3. It's been stuck in my head all day though, so maybe it's for the best this way.

I'd recommend it to anyone who's got a moderate grasp of japanese - the language is pretty simple.
#888
I was talking to inrunranrinrunsomebody about this today, and just wanted to mention I got past the bit I was confused by - but humorously, you were saying I should give the baddies some credit not to put two conspirators in adjacent cells - but they did! She was just to the right, rather than in the one I could see. Hah!

Now I'm off to unravel the mystery of how to beat this boss. Gah!
Thanks again for the help.
#889
I'm late to the party, but I've always called them cards, not cartridges. I guess I call them hucards more specifically. Technically you could call it a memory card - it looks more like a memory card than does a PS2 or N64 memory card...those things look like cartridges!
#890
yeah, I think that's the thing - for people who already know/like the pc engine, the whole thing is pretty pointless...also we were meant to keep it to the turbo grafx by and large, which was tough.

but that's how it goes sometimes!
#891
yo - yeah, I know we made a bunch of errors - that was the last thing I said, but I don't think it's in there.

Basically, christian and I got asked to do the podcast the day before, and the day of, well, we spend that day doing our jobs and such. In terms of research, none of us knew what would be discussed, and the point was basically to reminisce, because as someone said, all the technical info was already in the retrospective.

I think podcasts are silly, but I go on them when people ask. Just so you know, here's how the retronauts postmortem works - the host asks some people to come on, then they talk for a while. Researching is impossible, because who knows what you're going to talk about? I know stuff about the pc engine/tg-16, but certainly not everything. Am I a "big fan?" Well, I've been playing my pc engine several times per week for the last 6 months or so, after a hiatus of about a year. I own about 200 games at this point, two duos, a turbo express, and about 12 million controllers of various types.

It's true that we didn't get all the facts right - it's hard to recall the specifics without the internet there to help you. I didn't do too well in history in highschool, you might surmise. I'm not saying we shouldn't have gotten the facts right - but the podcast wasn't about facts, it was about talking about why we like the console.

Anyway, it's fair not to like it, and I don't really care if people do, cause it's not MY podcast - but I figured I'd let you all know how it went down.

Quote from: guest on 10/08/2009, 01:58 PMSounds a bit high.  Toss in a couple of common titles though, and it'll be worth a cool $250:lol:
yikes. I still have one of those, chopped to hell because the game store said that would "make it work" better. I was 14, so what did I know? I've been thinking about trying to make it work again, but I have two duos, so it's not real necessary.
