@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Quote from: Ravij on 07/14/2014, 04:02 PMHi all - I've not posted on here for 2 years (sad to say I haven't been doing much in PC Engine land  [-X  [-o< )

Anyway I've been thinking about getting a Turbo Everdrive, so when they finally came back in stock last week I ordered one.

I was a bit worried whether it would work ok on my PCE Duo as I had done an RGB mod powered off the 5 volt on the HuCard slot, and I'd heard people were having issues with regions mods....

No worries though, I seems to be working great. I even dug out my old CRT for the complete experience. I've not had some much gaming fun in ages!

I think I'll try and pick up that 3D printed PCB cover soon.

Cheers,

Ravi
Any links to this cover?

Hm, they are back in stock. Good!

Just a reminder, I'm open for a group buy if there are still 10 of us to buy them at only $60 each.

I'm still down for a group buy.

I'd be in.  However, it says it may not work in a region modded system.  Anyone have a TG-16 region modded by turbokon that can tell me if this will work or not?

It works in my Duo-R that turbokon region modded if that's any help. It messes up on switchless region modded systems (GT/TE) I've heard.

I would also be glad to jump in on that group buy for one.

Whether it will work or not depends on the system and the type of region mod performed. I can say for a fact that both DUO-R and US Turbo grafx systems have no issues using a Turbo Everdrive with both the Circuit and 8PDT based region mods.

However, I have noticed issues here and there with the standard white PC engine and Standard DUO systems no matter which type region mod is performed. Meaning sometimes games will load up with garbled graphics but after reloading said game maybe 4-5 times it usually works just fine.

Maybe someone else can chime in with more info for region mods with those two systems.

I do not own an everdrive but have had people send me one every now and again for testing purposes.

I never had issues with the everdrive on any region modded TE or duo that I have done. Only have issues on the white pce and a few coregrafx.
Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.

It worked on my switchless modded TE.  It wasnt even my Everdrive (I dont actually own one).  It was a fellow board member's that was helping me test out a bad huey.

Based on these replies I am in!

Thanks guys!  =D>

I think I would also be in for the group buy. I'm just stupid when it comes to the everdrive so, does that come with the SD card? And how easy is it to load up every game? (because every everdrive i see has what looks to be like most if not all games)

synbiosfan

Thanks for clearing that up, I hate giving out bad info.

FiftyQuid

I read something about not being able to use the loader with a Mac?  Is that still true?  I could always get the .roms and use a buddies computer.

It uses standard micro SD, so why would it need a special loading program?

The micro SD card you'll buy yourself; any of the sellers/resellers charge an extra shitty markup for them and they're dirt cheap nowadays. All you need is a minimum 2 GB micro SD ($3-$4) and that'll cover the 300 MB+ of the entire HuCard ROM library. Bernie has the whole thing well organized and ready to share via PM when ready.

The thing is, a Group Buy needs a leader, it's been organized here before for the SNES flash cart:

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=16576.0

The OP later realized the work/hassle involved and withdrew, only for BlueBMW to take over and save the day.

I described how it works here:

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=16576.msg345144#msg345144

It looks like we can probably round up at least 10 people who haven't bought it yet. But... who is willing to be the leader on it ? That's the thing. We could ask BlueBMW again, but he's already got the SNES buy that hasn't yet been done to my knowledge.

1) Buy minimum 2 GB microSD card with SD adapter to fit in your computer's normal SD slot.
2) Format card to FAT32.
3) PM Bernie for well organized HuCard ROM collection, probably archived in ZIP or whatever.
4) Unzip archive, copy to the root of the microSD card, eject.
5) Insert card in the TurboEverdrive and give it a shot on whatever NEC console!!!

Easy as pie, or should be, even with a Mac! ;)

Ah yes, the legend of Xak. ;) Where's that Spanish translation patch of Neutopia hiding anyhow ?

jtucci31

I wasn't too worried about the SD card I was just asking, so thanks for the information.

So did they even order them yet or are they just waiting on them by now?

Even if there isn't a leader yet, maybe we could start a thread and get a list of people going.

FiftyQuid

I'm not worried about the SD card you clowns.  :P  What am I thinking of then?  I remember reading about some loader program than needed to be used that wasn't compatible with Mac?  Damn!!!  I know it was Turbob related.

Feck...

You're thinking of all the other pre-Everdrive models of flash carts that had to be flashed with Windows PC programs. There is no loader software with Everdrive, just copy'n'paste of ROM files on a FAT32-formatted microSD card.

imparanoic

it's just drag and drop files on to sd card, so simple and the best way

it's not like older and unreliable rom loader flash carts, no need any iTunes style loader management for this

FiftyQuid

Sweet!  I'm still in.  Who's leading this?

Is anyone in the UK interested in these? They want nearly 9 Euros for postage. I was thinking I could order a few, and re-send them in the UK for about £1 each.

€9 for postage is ridiculous, for something that weights sweet FA. :x
