Let's just say that you might want to check with your attorney, and make sure that your will is up-to-date.  :-"

hey darkonus sorry to leave you hanging - i've recieved the boards and just haven't got around to trying building it yet. I've got some other projects i've been focusing on right now and haven't been obeying too much. trying to catch on up on my saturn backlog heh  :D

Quote from: guest on 02/08/2017, 09:55 AMYou walk over eggs to pick them up and have them follow, and eventually they'll hatch and return to your home; you get points at the end of the round based on the number of chicks you have and their color.  Charge up to fight (or defend against) another player, shake the bushes for power ups (speed, charge time, etc.), drop egg blocks in front of other's homes to keep their chicks from making it home, and keep your own home clear by destroying other's dropped egg blocks.
that pretty much covers it. iirc i almost had a  handle on it but the group consensus was to change games.  will definitely be giving it another shot

I tried this game with some friends a while ago but we couldnt figure out how to play . seemed like it would be a lot of fun if we knew what was going on. what constitutes winning?
#6
DarkOnus, thanks for sharing all this information. Also thanks for mentioning composite, I'm not sure how that option escaped me lol. Just pull it off the expansion port.

I was just checking the Ace's thread on sega-16 and it sounds like people are running into similar issues in the last few pages of the thread. They were discussing a couple of fixes. I have some pots I could replace the resistors with to fiddle around with. They were also trying putting caps inline with the rgb input resistors. not sure why. I think he originally designed it to work with genesis rgb so it may be worthwhile to compare the pc engine signal to the genesis one.  I'll take a better look at my options once the boards get here and i can do some testing.

I have a spare white pc engine that my friend wanted to use but he only has a newer TV. Also I wanted to build a separate universal converter that is simply scart to component. or maybe scart>15pin din>component . was meaning to build ace's board a while back but fucked it up the first time . been wanting to do an electronics project too. i'll let you know how it works out
#9
hey darkonus where are you getting the boards? I'd like to get one. Have all these components

:)  always happy to see an update , I check this thread almost every day

Author says it works on actual hardware  but not Magic Engine emulator

Hisou Kihei X-Serd on PC engine hucard has been translated.

romhacking.net/translations/2780/

Looks like a turn based strategy game featuring mecha. It's the predecessor to recently translated genesis game Vixen 357.

one of the top games for the console + cd imo. its so very unique, fun, and presents a well-designed challenge.

can't deny i'd love to look through that amazing collection. wowza

Quote from: guest on 10/17/2016, 01:30 AMI can't say I see the point.   How flashy do you really need a list of games to be, lol.
I agree.  Reminds me of the neo geo community right now bickering about the whole flash cart development. They are going nuts over the menu for the thing(s)

I was too young at the time to have an idea of what the video game market was like, but from what I read it seems like Street fighter 2 would have been a big deal. and I think it's common sense that they should have changed the pack in. My vote would have gone for legendary axe as the pack in.

As for pat and ian , I do enjoy their podcast quite a bit. Ian has good taste imo and is decently knowledgeable. Pat has a lot of passion and is a go getter  with the hobby.

one md rpg that doesnt get mentioned too often, but i enjoyed quite a bit is 'king colossus'. neat little action rpg. also has a translation patch.
#19
The readme for the translation covers a bunch of the differences between versions

QuoteII. Saturn Version Differences
==============================

Present in the original game, these differences also apply to the English patch.

- The game's glossary, previously available on Policenauts.net, can now be accessed in-game at any time by pressing the Z or Start buttons. The first time a term in the glossary appears in any game text, be it in-game or voiced, it is followed by an asterisk, indicating it as a glossary term. The glossary can be browsed by three methods: Recent (the twelve most recent terms that have appeared), Categories, or Alphabetical.

- Support for the Virtua Gun/Stunner peripheral. There is also a Shooting Mode in which the player can access the Shooting Trainer or any of the game's shooting scenes (after completing them in the story once). Note that the scenes you can access depend on which disc is in the system. For example, if you want to access a shooting scene on Disc 2, you must enter Shooting Mode from Disc 2.

- Additional scenes.

- Altered dialogue in a handful of scenes.

- Additional character close-ups.

- Additional "breast bouncing" interactions and uncensored bouncing. (Sony censored the PlayStation version by having the bouncing animation toned down.)

- Bonus videos that become available after completing the game.

- Two alternate versions of the ending credits. The easiest way to access these is simply reload the final save point in the game; you do not have to replay the entire game to view them.

- Support for the Back-Up RAM Cartridge/Power Memory peripheral.

- The anime cutscenes now run at 24 frames per second, instead of 15 in the PlayStation version, but the video quality is slightly reduced.

Like the PlayStation version, the Saturn version supports the Shuttle Mouse peripheral.

Also like the PlayStation version, if you have save data from the game Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You, the game will insert additional dialogue into a handful of conversations, depending on how you played Tokimeki Memorial. This consists of throwaway jokes that imagine Jonathan Ingram as being the protagonist in Tokimeki Memorial. Though as of this writing no English translation patch for the Saturn (or PlayStation) version of Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You is available, like the PlayStation patch we future-proofed the patch by translating this dialogue as well.

I didn't even realize this was a thing  - I've never been into adventure games and still have to get to snatcher. maybe i'll give it a go this weekend .

for those interested, policenauts on saturn now has a complete translation patch. I gotta try this out on real hardware soon.

there are a ton of japanese pc engine rpgs i'd like to play at some point when i can improve my japanese a little more.  here are some that haven't been mentioned that I think have that pc-engine "atleast slightly above average and interesting" charm that really makes me want to play them through.

tengai makyou series
linda cube  (this is the original linda cube, right?)
sol moonrage
dragon slayer legend of heroes 2  (had alot of fun with the first one.. is there an english version of 2 on any console?)
seiya monogatari anearth fantasy stories
efera and jiliora (always wanted to play through with a friend)

these ones all seem pretty high quality. kinda left out some of the lesser above-average ones that i would end up playing through if in english. also didnt mention translated ones

megadrive rpg library seems pretty limited in comparison to pc engine. i should give lunar another shot.

i've found that coasters are caused by bad rips like 80%+ of the time. After finding a good source of rips, my shitty old laptop burner has made zero coasters

Quote from: poponon on 08/30/2016, 11:51 AMfrom my understanding, good upscalers do 720p because 240p times 3 = 720p , but 240p does not divide into 1080p nicely, so the scanlines do not have the correct proportions . I think most hdtvs that do 1080p can do 720p natively without upscaling also. yea it would suck if they could not
This would be wrong.  Fixed pixel displays (basically everything except an HDCRT) have to scale the image to their native resolution.  So if you have a 1080p set it has to scale the 720p image to 1080p.  If you have a 4k(UHD) set, it has to scale 1080p and 720p to 4k(UHD).
.
really? shit. i oughta test my flatscreen sometime to see if it's scaling. dont have one at the moment though

Quote from: guest on 08/30/2016, 09:49 AMThe upergrafx looks neat, but $350 is rather steep and why is it 720p?  Since most HD TVs are 1080p native, won't they have to upscale it again, introducing more lag?

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Re: Ys IV
08/23/2016, 08:17 AM
just finished this one two weeks ago. The translation efforts were really something - I don't think I've ever played another fan translation that seemed to be as much as a labor of love as this. Really amazing stuff. PCE community is the best

the game itself is a lot of fun too - just don't be like me and forget to get the heal ring the first time it's available or else you have to wait until near the end of the game to pick it up again. I think it's fairly soon afterwords but still
#27

also don't fret man - I appreciate all your work on pce related stuff so much!

Anyone else try TurboRip with mounted image of Exile 2 -Wicked Phenomenon (US) ?   Mine keeps crashing - tried 2 different images from usually very reliable sources.

everyone saying arcade games that already have (good) home ports - come onnnnnnnnnnnnn
#31
definitely agree with black tiger - awesome game we never got a home port of.

karnov would be awesome too -  a proper port rather than the nes remake

willow or nemo on cps1 would be good picks too - never got home ports. donno how feasible these would be though.

someone mentioned rolling thunder 1 - that would make a great 2 player pce game. loved rolling thunder 2 on genny

1. Whirlo / サンドラ / Sandora / Xandra     from Valkyrie series
2. Chelnov
3. Gekisha Boy

Runners up: Popful mail, Karnov,

was mostly thinking of older games for these

Quote from: geise on 07/15/2016, 09:36 AMIs this actually nintendo manufactured or are they contracting out to another company to make this?  Since SuperDeadite said there's nothing about a fami mini then I think someone else is making this, just it's licensed by nintendo of america.
damn, that would be even worse. i think it's pretty clear we  are not the target market for this thing
#34
this would be so much cooler if they were attempting to recreate the original hardware. 70$ for an emulator and some roms ... no thanks

at first I got a wii just to play monster hunter with my bro, but eventually softmodded it and played a bunch of games on it.

I think I was 8 or 9 when pokemon first came out, and it was huge. every kid was playing it nonstop at school both in class and at recess. I haven't been able to get into any of the entries past the first, but pokemon go seems pretty neat. I'd like to try it out but it's not out in Canada yet and I dont think it'll run on my phone.

think a turbo ED is like 100$. Anyways please enter me in the raffle my few copies have got a couple scratches, could use a replacement

PCE-CD just on size of library and number of worthwhile games. Sega CD has its fair share of great games though, and is definitely a worthwhile console. 32x on the other hand......

My favourite sodas are Chinotto's and bitter Italian (red or white) soda.  If you've ever tried the "Beverly" at the Coke store in Vegas or at Club Cool at Disney World - I like that too...
red, white, clear, whatever  - bitter soda is so damn gud.

Quote from: bartre on 06/25/2016, 06:20 PMOddly enough, the only things I ever drunk buy are thing that I've been putting off.

Example- I had needed a couple new charging cables & an aux cable for my phone.
I was out at the bar waiting for my friends to come back inside and boom, ordered.
I do the same kind of thing. I'm such a cheapskate that's its a bit relieving to get a couple small things when drinking

this sugar filled style licorice is my jam.

I dig black lic too
Not sure if we are still in licorice territory here, but if it is, Sweet Tarts Ropes are phenomenal.
There is only one flavor of licorice. Licorice flavor. The anus flavored "candy" enjoyed exclusively by old people, some Europeans, and weirdoes. All this Willy Wonka bullshit you guys keep bringing up is just...candy. Unlike licorice it actually tastes *better* than Brussels sprouts with bouillon cubes hiden inside.

Licorice is so gross. It's like the haggis of candy. Really, it's only technically candy by virtue of all the perfectly good sugar it wastes. Nothing else 1/10 as disgusting would ever claim to be a treat. When people pretend to like it just to seem tough it offends me, and I pretend a lot of things myself...but come on. That shit doesn't even resemble a good taste. It doesn't even resemble a bad taste. It doesn't resemble food. It's like some one just handed you a little compressed hunk of that black bioslime that drain flies live in, or the greese you see dripping from fairground rides. One of the worst flavors I've ever experienced and I don't see why it continues to be manufactured.

I mean, I hate spiced jelly beans, anything with cocoanut filings in it, and fake peach flavoring quite a bit, but I'd strap a feed bag filled with cocoanut caked spicy peach jelly beans to my head before I ate a single piece of licorice. I'd rather share treats with my dogs, no, my CATS. That's how gross licorice is. Worse than a cat treat.

I wish I could say more but that's probably enough to permanently derail this thread.
You are missing out, comrade. :(

I mean, I cannot imagine a world without, say, cumin.

I also LOVE burnt toast.

Anise = amazing, especially if it is not overloaded with too much sugar.

I drink my coffee black.

I like espresso.

I like tea, without anything added.

I love lemongrass.

The bitterest beers are the best beers.

THE BITTEREST BEERS ARE THE BEST BEERS.

I love cumin. I put it on my salad. Everything. Popcorn. I love cumin.

I love very hot (spicy) foods from all cuisines Indian, Thai, Chinese, Persian, Italian, etc. (not so hot that I develop a fever, though).

I love nori/seaweed

Horseradish/wasabi

Tabasco.

Black pepper.

I have to stop, but I could go on and on.

Oh, and I love licorice! Black, delightful, heavenly licorice.

Onions!!! Leeks!!! Chives!!!!

Licorice, too.
esteban, we have very similar taste . minus the burnt toast. I find after u get used to very flavorful things, other tastes become more boring.

You said in another post you dislike jagermeister ... but have you tried the less sweet italian style bitters (amaro)??  Fernet Branca???? my #1.

that being said i also go for some less flavorful stuff too, like german food.

Quote from: esteban on 06/02/2016, 04:49 PMI love Chelnov...I can't explain why I think both the arcade and MegaDrive versions are so addictive/satisfying to play.

I don't care. It's a good game. :)
I agree completely. I think chelnov is my favourite genesis game - even one of my favourite games all together. The artstyle / theme / story  make for such a unique and interesting experience. on top of that the gameplay like you said is very addictive and satisfying. It feels like every inch of the game was planned pretty precisely. I think the weakest point of the game is the music, which is still pretty good and suits the game perfectly. I'd suggest it to anyone
