You guys probably already know this, but just in case you own a PSP and have not heard in Oct a new PC-E emulator came out, and it works really well.  Really, really well actually.  It does require the 3.xx kernel to run however.

Since it has no readme, you put games in the folder with the program and select + left trigger takes you to the save state menu, pressing the right trigger from this menu will take you to the options menu.  From there you can choose a new game as well.

I tried it myself it's a pretty good emulator, I don't have a PSP either, but my friends are "PSP Warriors"

one thing though, when I play Ninja Gaiden, the ROM resets after I beat stage 1. What's up with that?

No idea, it could be a problem with the game or the emu.  The only game I have had lock up is Final Soldier so far.  When you beat R-type I (J) the game takes you to a level with a black background, where the d-pad directions are mixed up and it is full of the enemy that makes green bubble trails you have to shoot.  I don't know if this is normal for the PC-E version or not.  When you die though on this stage, it takes you back to level 1 with some of your powerups. :?

Level 4 of R-Type is a level with a black background filled with those enemies.

I truely hope you are joking.  The PSP is the best portable system, ever.  It plays nearly every console PSX and before.  It can emulate many old computers and dos.  It plays many arcade emulators.  It also has its own software, of which there are good games.  It has a wide, bright screen.  It's easy to get spare parts for.  A slim with a 2200mAh battery will play for many, many hours too with the screen really bright and the volume at max.  The variable clocking of the cpu and bus is also wonderful for long trips.

The PSP is > PS3, Wii or 360 =D>

GP2X does all these things. I'm thinking of picking one up to compliment PSP.

The GP2X can run many of the same emulators, but not all.  It is underpowered when put next to the PSP, but it is still a fine homebrew/emu portable.  The PSP also has a better screen than the GP2X.

I was actually thinking about getting a GP portable right before the PSP came out.  However, when the PSP came out and supported homebrew out of the box as well, I went for the PSP and have never once regretted it.  I actually own 3 of them (2 fats, 1 slim) because they are really fun to play multiplayer games on like Crazy Taxi, some of the emulators like the CPS1+2 and some SNES ones support muliplayer over wifi as well (with IR shell you can play 2 player PSX games as well!).  I hope illegal machine who is working on this current PC-E emulator adds wifi support soon [-o<

Perhaps the old model is, but have you seen the new model of GP2X, the F-200? It's significantly more advanced.

Nope. The PSP is expensive toilet paper. Why not just buy the cheap stuff?

Why the fuck would I want to emulate DOS on a handheld? So I can relive the good ol' days of XCOPY and QBASIC, miniature-style?

Emulation is lame anyway.

QuoteIt has a wide, bright screen.
I'll give you that. The screen is nice, actually I rather like the overall design of the PSP itself. That's the only thing it's got going for it IMHO.

For portable gaming give me a DS or PC Engine GT/TurboExpress.

Now you're just talking crazy talk.

DOS is awesome, you can play Eye of the Beholder II and all those old Lucas Arts games that completely rule.

Fixed. Plus GP2X emulates DOS better.

Loom was the shit back in the day.

But why not just play the stuff on a regular computer? Seems to me like it would be a real pain to play those games without a real mouse.

guyjin

you can't fit most computers in your pocket?

(how do the Gamepark portables compare in size to the DS and PSP?)

I don't know how big it is exactly, but it's probably like the PSP but a bit thicker.

And the reason it does computer emulation so well is because it's not just some cheap Korean console, it's a portable Linux computer - just add the breakout box and you can hook up a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Also, unlike the PSP, Gamepark EMBRACES homebrew, meaning there's no shitty firmware updates that destroy everything, and no special battery to make to get them back.

If I wasn't saving for a car, I'd have one right now.

GUTS

If you don't like LucasArts adventure games your opinion on everything else in the entire world is invalid.

Personally I don't play them on an actual computer because I hate playing games on a computer.  I could do it when I was a kid, but now I just fucking hate it.  Plus they all run great on an Xbox and you can even use a USB mouse/keyboard if you want, but I just use the controller, it works fine.

Kitsunexus

I like the music and characters and worlds, just not the gameplay.

Well yeah I guess you have to enjoy running a cursor over the screen looking for little things to click on so you can solve obtuse puzzles.  Monkey Island 1, 2, & 3 (4 is decent) are some of the best games I've ever played.

Bump to an old thread, emulation of many CD-Rom games is now down perfectly with use of the "official" emulator that was used in the PC Engine Best collections. I will upload some of my icons later tonight on my homescreen. PC Engine Best: YS Collection!!!!
