Only 1000 copies of the set made, and the sale price is.... $799.99

Awesome series but that price is a ball buster for sure.

https://shop.sentaifilmworks.com/collections/pre-order/products/legend-of-the-galactic-heroes-premium-box-set
Is that also available in broken down sets? I ask because even in Japan they usually break $800 sets in half.

Also, that dumb outer box...why are they still making massive dumb boxes in fucked up shapes nobody can store? Didn't we learn anything from The Eye of Folger or The Matrix?

Really?  Anyone want to argue that NES Bomberman is better than PCE Bomberman?
That may be the absolute best example. NES Bomberman wasn't the original but I like this because it's a company that made a game and then later on made their own system and remade the game for that. It did indeed turn out way better. A huge Bomberman fan wants them all of course but if you could only have one version of "Bomberman" the PCE version clearly works over all the rest and you're never going to play the earlier games. If you only collect "original" you'll never have the best Bomberman.

I've been drawing again lately and checking out the new shit. These Platinum Preppy pens are fucking crazy. So reliable and cheap, maybe the first practical fountain pen ever. I may ditch the red Precise V5 I've been using for fucking eeeeeeeveerrrrrrrr. In order to work so well they have some kind of weak-ass gel ink though so you can't mistake them for archival grade.

PreppyPens.webp

I really fucking hate ballpoint pens, btw. I need a little bit of scratch. When I write with a Bic it looks like I'm drunk high and six years old and I'm only ever max one of those things.

Here's a more recent SD, the B Club SD Nightingale. Its huge compared to regular SDs from Bandai. Its boot, of course. The decals are all gold leaf from some dude on eBay. This was the most complex resin kit I had every built at the time, maybe 110 parts, this was about 3-4 years ago I think. The paint is Humbrol enamel. There was a great deal of polishing and whatnot with this guy to get the finish I got, which could be a lot better.

This is most of the SD stuff I've built. Some of these go back over 20 years.

The MD Valkyries are something a lot of people haven't seen. There is a Macross "power collector" near me and he had never seen them before. They were really cheap. I don't think they had gum in them but they were just this side of that. They were as good of plastic kits as the smaller ARII stuff so good enough for me. I *think* these came out when they re-ran the show with the SD intro. Was that the 10th anniversary? So 1992 then. The Armored has an extra GU-11 because the VT-1D came with one which is like...WTF, guys? Didn't you see the movie? It has no weapons! And I'm not giving it any because Sunset Beachy is sacred!

Everything here was Tamiya Color brushed by hand, btw, except maybe some of the white on the Dendrobium which may have come from a rattle can. I'm assuming most have Krylon clear matte or perhaps an art fixative I don't know, like I said these go way back and my techniques change every once in a while.

The Mk2 is the newest thing here. It was done for a 48 hour group build 8 or 9 years ago. All the SD's have legs now and its bullshit. I still have at least a half dozen from when they were all branded SD Gundam G Century after the Playstation game so I'm probably set until the "no leg SD Gundam revival" of 2023.

OK, so here's some work I'm doing for a 1/144 FAZZ diorama...

According to Model Grafx magazine the FAZZ is not a prototype Full Armor ZZ Gundam, its really a test mule for the Full Armor because the ZZ Gundam was itself being developed in parallel. This is why the FAZZ has no High Mega Cannon and whatever and why the head is different.

So I thought I should have this FAZZ in flight and it could be being escorted by a core fighter that was itself a weird sort of prototype of the ZZ Gundam's Neo Core Fighter.

Here is a standard Neo Core Fighter's line art:

IMG

Here's some fucking sweat Kobayashi concept art from back in the day:

IMG

Here is the current Bandai plastic 1/144 Neo Core Fighter:

IMG

As you can see the "intakes" are very clumsy and thick compared to the ideal (or anything that flies). Bandai likes to get a lot of milage out of their molds so they avoid sharp detail. As amazing as Bandai's engineering is, this Core Fighter would have been a lot cooler looking if Tamiya or Hasegawa had made it:

IMG

Here I've made some improvements, removed probably %40 of the mass but you can cut cheese with the things now:

IMG

I wanted this to be a proto Neo Core Fighter so it would look half built or bespoke. Since I work in testing and development myself this aspect of Gundam Sentinel really appealed to me. I figured there would be such a thing...since its escorting a FAZZ it may as well have a ridiculously big gun.

I opened up the sides but the plan isn't to replicate the line art here but to emphasize the part separation but in a unique way:

IMG

Here I've knife edged the rear "intakes" as well and started to extend the rudder. I've removed as much bulk as possible to make this brick look more like the drawing:

IMG

Here I've added some stainless mesh and thinned down the rudder some:

IMG

You can see from that pic that the more I remove from the engines the more it exposes the ugly guts so the only way forward is to hollow out the nacelles completely and make new engines out of the old ones:

You can barely see them in this photo:

IMG

You can also see the stabilizer has been knife edged as well:

IMG

Here I've gone and built a massive gun out of a large spare ECU terminal and the ZZ Gundam's beam saber back pack thingamabob:

IMG

Here they are as they sit today, I added some more details from styrene, brass, and spares:

Quote from: guest on 07/06/2017, 03:23 AMVoltage divider:

IMG

Not as sophisticated and stable as a true voltage regulator, which is much better suited for a wide range of input voltages and shifting loads.

But it will work if these criteria are met:
V-input stays constant and predictable all the time.
R1 (series resistor) is decent sized enough to take up the heat that occures in the voltage drop.
R2 (flash cart) stays constant in value all the time time.
Yes, but would it cause issues on a data bus ? He's saying there should be level translator ICs in there, he never speaks of simple regulation or load. The 5V stuff has to read and write at 5V and the 3.3V stuff has to read and write at 3.3V. Also, data lines have almost no current consumption so resistors barely work the same way as they do with a light or a heater or a motor or something.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 06/14/2017, 04:04 AMS-video is excellent for the price/amount of work needing to be done. Obviously component is a bit better but depending on the TV I can hardly notice the difference with most games. Definitely a huge jump up in quality over standard composite.

Even though I do component and RGB mods as well, S-video is my choice for CRT gaming since colors look more like what I was accustom to as a kid.

here is the schematic I made for it way back.
 IMG

Here is a pic of a pce with S-video installed.
IMG
Ah, excellent. It's basically the same as Genesis, really easy. Using the full composite signal for chroma isn't ideal, to say the least, but I'm sure it's a significant upgrade to separate the luma. Thanks for the info!

PS: your image host sucks!

Quote from: guest on 06/08/2017, 01:19 PMLol, you know I actually even debated posting my previous comment (and picture) because I had a feeling you were going to rip into it about the animation being mid-90s instead of 80s or earlier.

I spent a lot of time when I was younger watching probably more 90s anime than anything else, and while I will easily admit that the difference in quality is noticeable, I personally don't mind too much.  I still like the character styles and the animation quality from that time, and to use an oft-overused meme:

IMG
I wasn't trying to make a value judgement. I enjoy the You're Under Arrest OVAs from the same time and they have very good animation, much better hand drawn animation of passenger cars that just about anything from any era.

However, the simple reality was that nearly all the money was gone by the time those OVAs came out and people had stopped working for free. I remember at the time (let's say 1997) I knew people in the industry who were constantly complaining about how nobody would fund good ideas anymore, how the labor was being offshored, and at the time I didn't really see it as someone who's just a consumer. Now that time has passed and I've seen a lot more anime and have had time to take a broader view of the whole situation it seems super obvious as hell when the bottom fell out.

Great anime came from the 90s (Giant Robo, Beebop, etc) just as it's being made today but when it comes to stuff like A-ko...well, it was already over by the time it came out. That's why it's 90 minutes of theatrical grade animation and all the sequels are shorter and cheaper. Many of the really top tier shit from the 80s was too lovingly crafted to make a profit. Five Star Stories and To-y come to mind. By now of course pretty much every studio has gone under or was bought out, it was a slow progress with them cranking mediocre stuff to pay the bills. Sunrise only exists because Bandai owns them now. Ghibli is only still here because they are able to work with Disney for international distribution.

Quote from: esadajr on 12/09/2016, 12:30 PMI like how the Akai unit sounds, so in addtion to it and the WinX68k emulator,  I'd just need one of these USB to midi cables

amazon.com/VicTsing-Cable-Converter-Keyboard-Adapter
IMG

then Bob's my uncle?
Assuming you can get that emulator to send to the USB MIDI host, sure.

This module won't play all the game samples and stuff though so you'll have to mix the sound from the game and the synth somehow, and be able to shut off the PC98 generated music but still have the Akai doing it.

I guess it would have to be supported specifically in the emulator, using external music from MIDI modules that is. If it is, that's potentially extremely entertaining. I have a number of MIDI things that, IMHO, blow GM out of the water. Hell, just having SFII be able to play VSTs is...I'd like to do that.

Talkboy...apparently you weren't a very smart kid. :)

I know that's kind of rude but...as a kid cassette recorders were a huge part of my life. Most of them ran on batteries and had a microphone. There were THOUSANDS to choose from. The ones branded "Transformers" or "Barbie" or "Home Alone" aren't going to be the good ones. Even a kid knows that.

Maybe by the time the 90s came around kids had forgotten about the cassette recorder? At least enough that you could make a new one that offers no features you couldn't get from something Radio Shack had been selling for 20 years? I suppose that's possible.

I got this one when I was six:

IMG

I loved it. I took it everywhere and recorded all sorts of things. My asshole stepdad lost his shit and threw it at a wall at about 100mph and even though that broke the lid the thing kept going. Panasonic is such a good company. Apple and Samsung and Amazon are going going to burry them just like they burried Pioneer but they had a good run. Always stressing quality over flashy design or low prices. The good guys.

As for disappointments...I don't know. I usually stuck with action figures, which tend to be pretty predictable. If you liked Snake Eyes you'll like Cobra Commander too.

One time I made a trade with a friend. I had a Matchbox branded Gakken Legios and I traded it for...the GI Joe base. No idea what I was thinking. Such a choice makes buying a Talkboy look genius.

Thats a composite hookup. You know, the shitty hookup nobody wants because its garbage. Straight to the display, no mods or repairs or anything, totally original PCE. Lighting was terrible when I took these pics too which is most of why they don't look as good as the RGB from Street Fighter.

When I'm back up and running I'll post better pics. I have a s-video Genesis that looks like MAGIC on this thing. This has honestly lead me to a new apreciation of Genesis. I think maybe half of the reason I always associated the Genesis as being a brown blurry POS was because the composite on mine back in the day was so bad. I always used one of those C64 monitors back then and the SNES and Duo looked way better, now the Genesis looks great too.

Quote from: Digi.k on 07/08/2016, 08:55 AMold thread but I don't recall having scanlines displaying prominently during the years when CRT was the main staple and the best connection here was Euro SCART RGB.  I also had a few Sony triniton TVs back in those days and then a big widescreen panasonic CRT.

Anyway these are screen photos of my BVM even though it's tiny but to really notice the scanlines you have to sit up real close or zoom in on the photograph pictures like these:

Those horizontal lines seems to make the picture feel a bit more higher res if that makes sense.  Sony 9"BVM and component connection.  But again I don't recall the scanlines showing up as strong as these back in the day on normal domestic CRT sets.

IMG
IMG
IMG
IMG
IMG
Back when CRT was the norm you'd need a professional photographer to get screenshots like that and even then it would be much shittier, most likely. When the ability to freeze a moment in time comes into play you notice it more. Many many sets have way thicker scanlines than that. Look at coverage in PC Engine Fan or Dengeki PC Engine. I know there was a review of one of the Xanadu games in particular that made me notice the scanlines and that was when everything was CRT.

In the SD analog realm a scanline isn't a thing, it's the lack of a thing. It's where the beam doesn't go. On old video games actually running in 240p (in the US this was rarely seen outside of arcades, computers, and SNES demo kiosks...maybe) the lines will be super thick. Once you get that SNES home and hook it up to your brand new 19" Trinitron that cost $600 you'll see much thinner scanlines because now your running 480i composite, essentially an analog line doubling hack. The image will also be a lot brighter because the beam is covering twice as much ground, but that depends on you're TV's ability to componsate gain, which was really bad a long time ago but eventually became perfect in later CRTs.

We love scanlines but TVs were mainly made for reproduction of film and they don't help film one bit so since the invention of the TV trying to reduce scanline visibility was a constant thing. My 2004 "super fine pitch" CRT produces virtually no visable scanlines because it's really a 720p CRT that accepts lower signals. It's fucking *ACE* for Laserdisc but the effect on games is mixed. It ends up looking like a Plasma or one of the better LCDs.

Not sure if we are still in licorice territory here, but if it is, Sweet Tarts Ropes are phenomenal.
There is only one flavor of licorice. Licorice flavor. The anus flavored "candy" enjoyed exclusively by old people, some Europeans, and weirdoes. All this Willy Wonka bullshit you guys keep bringing up is just...candy. Unlike licorice it actually tastes *better* than Brussels sprouts with bouillon cubes hiden inside.

Licorice is so gross. It's like the haggis of candy. Really, it's only technically candy by virtue of all the perfectly good sugar it wastes. Nothing else 1/10 as disgusting would ever claim to be a treat. When people pretend to like it just to seem tough it offends me, and I pretend a lot of things myself...but come on. That shit doesn't even resemble a good taste. It doesn't even resemble a bad taste. It doesn't resemble food. It's like some one just handed you a little compressed hunk of that black bioslime that drain flies live in, or the greese you see dripping from fairground rides. One of the worst flavors I've ever experienced and I don't see why it continues to be manufactured.

I mean, I hate spiced jelly beans, anything with cocoanut filings in it, and fake peach flavoring quite a bit, but I'd strap a feed bag filled with cocoanut caked spicy peach jelly beans to my head before I ate a single piece of licorice. I'd rather share treats with my dogs, no, my CATS. That's how gross licorice is. Worse than a cat treat.

I wish I could say more but that's probably enough to permanently derail this thread.

I like tea, without anything added.

I love lemongrass.

I love cumin. I put it on my salad. Everything. Popcorn. I love cumin.

I love very hot (spicy) foods from all cuisines Indian, Thai, Chinese, Persian, Italian, etc. (not so hot that I develop a fever, though).

I love nori/seaweed

Horseradish/wasabi

Tabasco.

Black pepper.

I have to stop, but I could go on and on.

Best gifts...for me...probably the Capsella 500 set when I was expecting a smaller set. Also, the Starriors Armored Battle Station. I loved Starriors and this came from my mother, who normally avoided the militaristic Japanese robot stuff totally (my grandparents always bought the Joes and Transformers) but surprised me with the Battle Station that year for some reason. Looking back that was a particularly shitty year for us so maybe she felt bad for me. I don't know, as a kid you don't always pick up on that stuff, sometimes you figure it out later. She also might have just bought it because it's really really fucking cool and anyone can see that.

In general my adult life, as complex as it is, kicks my childhood to the curb. Maybe that's why I never get sucked into these "craze" things as deeply as other people do. I have my own life now and I'd rather do my radio show or build a race car or a model of my race car than Hordac (!) a bunch homoerotic fantasy figures or sealed NES crap that can't actually be used for anything at all. I bet a lot of people would enjoy an actual life if they gave it a shot.

At least 30 years ago they did. That's an Apple ][ Apple 1 proto.

Ah, by "breadboard" I assumed the white plastic ones where you just slip the components into place. To me that is "project board" but maybe they go by both names. These ones are a lot harder to use on the next project.

Btw, that was nearly 40 years ago! Well before today's Chinese PCB manufactures that can turn your drawing into a PCB and have it on your doorstop in two weeks.

Quite a reach for that metaphor but maybe you got it, we'll have to go to the booth for a ruling on the field.

I agree, largely, though. When a game takes longer to boot and get into than it takes to beat many other games, it's silly to consider it an option. 9/10 times that I load up a modern console I end up playing an older one while waiting for updates and groups and connectivity, and then feel satisfied with my game session before the modern console even boots. True spit.
What metaphor?

Quote from: Gredler on 09/21/2015, 08:22 PMI keep thinking, how stoned were they when they sat down and planned this thing out. The system that will play all games, and be retro but modern, never patch, and cost as much as leading market competitors.

then I saw this pic on the indie go go go site,

Really stoned, apparently. Should've not hit the blunt before taking these promo pics and movie, I mean holy shit at least get some eye drops or something.
They are liars, big dreamers, and idiots. I don't think they've ever been high more than once in their life. Carl Sagan, Jimmy Hendrix, and Shakespeare got their ideas while smoking weed. These guys...sniffing Trix, maybe.

The thing with weed is, no matter how fucked up you get, when you wake up the next day you know if it was in fact a great idea you had or just something stupid. These guys still seem to think this stupid idea makes sense. You can't get actually that high and stay that way for months. People have certainly tried. It's not possible.

I think we'd all be happier people if we decided we just didn't give a shit about this kind of stuff.

...but then people don't pay hundreds of dollars for games they don't care about so...

I'm going to be perfectly honest here and say that I didn't really read the post I just quoted. It's way way too fucking huge. It's ridiculous to expect anyone to read that.

I did want to ask a question though. What on earth makes you think the WP article (which I saw the other day) somehow applies totally to me but somehow not to yourself? You're much more aggressive with people than I am these days. The wind kinda left my sails a few years ago, not sure why. I certainly don't have the energy to write up page long fake quotes of someone.

I'll try to keep this short.

I don't care what you think of any movie. It doesn't matter. All these Ghibli movies are beloved world wide. Someone not liking one of them doesn't matter. Their image is still pristine.

When I said you were a psychopath, it wasn't because of what you thought of the movie as a movie. It just wasn't. You can obsess over how you think this is about me not approving of your taste, but that's not it. Taste doesn't matter. I called you a psychopath because your reaction to the movie was like a review of a super bowl commercial. Nobody reviews Schindler's List or Three Kings completely removed from the circumstances of the subject matter. I've never read a review of The Great Dictator That didn't mention Hitler. These things just can't be separated.

You did that though. You just brushed that dust off your jeans...like Grave of the Fireflies was a less funny version of Kiki's Delivery service. Anyone who can see a movie that unpleasant and not even comment on how hard it is to watch is pretty fucking numb to humanity. Psychopath? Maybe just autistic. Maybe you're so patriotic you can't allow yourself to be drawn into a movie that portrays the Asia pacific campaign as anything but holy. I don't know what it is, I just know it's fucked. I've talked about this movie with a lot of people, and I've read a lot of reviews of it. Nobody is "meh" about this movie unless they are in the John Birch Society or they have Ass Bugers. I mentioned it. I didn't mean it even as an attack but as an observation. How could you have such a half ass "meh" attitude about something so powerful? Oh, it wasn't powerful for you? Well, that sorta proves my point. You're emotionally impaired. Abject human misery rolls over you like water. Great. I'll remember that and not mention it again for fear of massive explosions from the parts of your soul that actually do exist.

I'm sorry you feel insulted by my diagnosis. I'm sorry your opinion of me is somehow in a constant state of flux. I don't know why you care. I don't know why you stuck up for me in some dumb chat with who the fucker ever. I don't know what was said about me, why is stuck up for me, why now you aren't, or why you have such a huge emotional stake in this forum politicking crap.

A lot of people here can't stand me (a lot more would, but I don't post as much anymore) but I believe I have a decent reputation as someone who is honest about saying what they feel. I would never belabor a point by changing my story to win some sort of argument. Regardless of how inappropriate my comment was, I *genuinly* did not call you a psychopath for not liking a movie I like. I wouldn't have said anything it if it were any number of movies I like much more than Fireflies. My "psychopath" comment was used on you for the same reason I'd use it for people who own all the Faces of Death movies or who run over squirrels in their pickups on purpose or who won't donate money to a worthy cause because they used a tacky font in their flier. If you want to be pissed off at me for armchair mental health diagnosis, fine, but this fallacy you keep repeating, that I call people crazy if they don't have identical taste in movies...it isn't true. It just isn't. If it were, I'd admit it.

I failed to keep this short. I'll admit to that too.

Quote from: NightWolve on 07/22/2015, 08:36 PMOK, from the top, the review of his crazed psycho fanboy behavior :

Quote from: NightWolve on 07/20/2015, 10:10 PM* Person A pops in a thread to share an opinion on a movie (of the anime variety in this case):
Quote from: NightWolve on 07/17/2015, 12:45 PMI saw that a few weeks ago actually. It's not my favorite in their library, but it was alright. I can't recall seeing an anti-war anime before so that was a first.
* Person B, apparently so butthurt by the above opinion has a crazed, emotional overreaction and pops in said thread to assault Person A's character in this way:
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 07/17/2015, 09:58 PMFirst off, anyone who isn't completely reduced to a blubbering wreck by GotF is a certifiable psychopath. I always knew, now you've given us proof.

As for anti-war anime...I guess you haven't seen very much anime.
So, Person B calls Person A a psychopath, claims his above opinion on a movie gives proof of it, adds in the fact that he has baggage associated with the view to back it up (the "I always knew" addition), etc. whatever that is...

* In a great twist, Person B now accuses Person A of an overreaction to that level of character assault over a brief opinion on not really being a fan of a particular movie... Imagine if Person A had outright trashed the movie!
So the guy is 100% clearly in the wrong. Case closed on that! Firebombs a perfectly civil thread, then plays stupid and blames the target's reaction (e.g. "no no no, forget me, his reaction! his his his!!!")! The above analysis/conclusion is unimpeachable, to borrow his word!

But now fast forward to present behavior. We see a continued troll strategy. It appears it'll be to drag focus away from his crazed, emotional, PMS-vaginal overreaction to a perfectly civil opinion on the movie in question, and try to focus on his mark/target to repetitiously repeat the same charge of psychopath, in other words, not only will he not apologize, he instead is digging in and this could be due to several reasons. It may be his arrogance/bigotry/pride is so far gone, it's literally impossible for him to admit any wrongdoing and/or he is revealing traits of a genuine sociopath, etc. He hopes others will seriously take the bait in this strategy and engage with him to aid in this whole pathetic, immature, petty exchange he caused!

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 07/21/2015, 09:07 PMGUYS, HELP!!

I JUST...DON'T UNDERSTAND... I JUST DON'T...

NEVERMIND THAT I'M A GREAT BIG OLE VAGINA THAT COULDN'T HANDLE THIS MASTERPIECE OF AN ANIME ONLY BEING THOUGHT OF AS "ALRIGHT" IN TERMS OF QUALITY! IT'S A GODDAMN MASTERPIECE AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE CAN SUCK MY LEFT ONE AND DIE!!!!!! DIE I SAY!! DIE!!!!!

BUT SERIOUSLY, WHY WOULD ANYONE GET ANGRY BEING CALLED A PSYCHOPATH AND THEN "EXPLODE" BY CALLING ME A PSYCHOPATH AND TELLING ME TO GO F--K MYSELF ???

I JUST... I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND...

I'VE BEEN CALLED NASTIER SHIT MILLIONS OF TIMES OVER THE INTERNET! MILLIONS!!!! I KID YOU NOT!! I HAVE A CHARMING PERSONALITY, WHAT CAN I SAY! I'M A CERTIFIED A$$HOLE!!! MY TROLL IS STRONG!

YOU WANT EXAMPLES ?? SURE!

LET'S SEE, OFF THE TOP OF MY SNAPPERHEAD, I CAN LIST THE FOLLOWING:

AN EGOTISTICAL EGOMANIAC WITH AN EGO THE SIZE OF JUPITER, A TROLL, A PIECE OF SHIT KEYBOARD WARRIOR, A BIGOTED ARROGANT ASSHOLE, A MANCHILD, A MONSTER, A BIG OLE VAGINA, A NARCISSISTIC DRAMA QUEEN, ETC. AWWW SHIT, I'M OUT, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA, KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN' ?? SINCE I'M A HUGE INTERNET A$$HOLE TROLL AND HAVE BEEN CALLED EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK, I JUST WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEBODY ELSE WOULD GET ANGRY AT INSULTS ANYMORE UNLIKE ME...

WHY FEEL INSULTED BY AN INSULT ANYMORE ?? IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME ANYMORE!
The better, REAL question here obviously is why would anyone have such an explosive reaction to somebody else not liking or loving a movie as much as they do ?? I doubt this could all ever easily be explained let alone understood... :/

I think this whole sad and embarrassing incident on Snapperhead Chad's part brings up a good tangent discussion on the nature of trolls. Just so happens that a new article on The Washington Compost went up where they did a study to answer the question of what makes them so nasty. It's not detailed, but I think it applies well in his case. Let's take a took!

"Science Reveals What Makes Trolls so Nasty"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/science-reveals-what-makes-trolls-so-nasty/2015/07/20/
IMG

QuotePeople who enjoyed trolling had much higher rates of dark traits such as sadism, narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism — so much so that "it might be said that online trolls are prototypical everyday sadists," the authors concluded.

The study also found a correlation between enjoyment of trolling and the amount of time a person spent commenting online — perhaps explaining why so many corners of the Internet seem overrun by trolls.
Hmmm, yessss, interesting. So according to the graphic, sadism was the top reason for trolling. I think that might be on to something with Snapperhead Chad here I'm afraid... I'd add arrogance, bigotry, egomania, nerd pride, etc. The most striking thing I would say here is that he demonstrates clear characteristics of a sociopath. It's looking like it would be IMPOSSIBLE for him to admit/comprehend/process that he did/said anything wrong from A to B if you assumed he wasn't trolling and this was all serious - that would be the fundamental problem here. I was thinking earlier that simple nerd pride is what makes it impossible for him to admit any over-the-top wrongdoing, but the real reason might just be much worse as mentioned... We'll never know for sure I suppose. Ah well. :/ The troll aspect to his behavior is 100% though.

Quote from: Raizen1984 on 07/22/2015, 02:51 PMThere's nothing worth thinking about here.  When you insult someone, especially for an asinine reason like this, it's always going to rub them the wrong way.

Everyone deals with things like this differently.  For example, when Zeta implied I was a racist for not wanting to play a visual novel in Japanese, a language I cannot read or speak, I just shrugged it off.  Some people are just more vocal than others.
Yeah, don't fall for the bait, Raizen, his shitty, ill-conceived troll strategy is not that hard to discern... He's a lot better than that when he really wants to troll, so that's far from his best work on PCEFX. Color me unimpressed here...

I'm afraid I missed the exchange where he implied you're a racist but somehow I'm not surprised. Sounds like there might be Japanophilic excesses based on your experiences with him. I see elements of a cyberbully that wants to browbeat someone into liking something as much as he does with psychological attacks...

Yeah, I'm understanding better the feeling of another PCEFX member who refers to him as "a piece of shit keyboard warrior." I'm bothered by the fact that I stood up for him and referred to his informative posts on gaming at times as a defense and that he is a valuable member. I failed to see him for the piece of shit that he is and it took this exchange to do so, thus I feel a bit foolish. It bothered me enough to go back and tell that person he was right all along and to laugh with me at this thread! I try to correct my shit when possible, so yeah, this is not somebody I would ever defend again.

Basically, SnapperChad jumped the shark for me... He went full retard, and as Robert Downing Jr. taught us, you never go full retard... Your career cannot recover in the aftermath and so I'll never look at him the same way again to be quite honest. Also, I wouldn't wanna watch this movie again at all because I think I will forever hold the association of what happened in this thread; it'll forever remind me of a psycho nutjob fanboy ripping my head off for not finding it the masterpiece that he does, etc... One reason I considered the possibility is because I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles, so watching it for the sake of the English dubs would've given me a replay reason, but f--k that shit now... Heh.

I love Sherlock Hound. I have the wonderful LD Memorial Box and the theatrical release, which was basically two episodes with slight differences. This theatrical version was how it debuted to the public, it played with Nausciaa's roadshow release in 1984 and the series started airing later that year.

That episode where Mrs Hudson is revealed to have a past as an aviator was so awesome...she didn't do much in the Conan Doyle version...

I need to get that U.S. DVD set now when I'm thinking about it. I'll want it in a few years when my kid is old enough to grasp it.

Edit: I found a good pic of the Memorial Box. Each of those discs is gatefold, btw, with art on the back side that is just as good as the front. The book contains konte and direction, the phone card...is just a phone card.

My favorite thing about the cover of this game is that it's essentially the same as the JP covert except stupider. This cover specifically, IMO, lends a lot of cred to the theory that TG16 games have such terrible covers because they lost any good copies of the original art somewhere between the US and JP releases.

Why American publishers could never manage to hire an illustrator that knew WTF he was doing in the world of video games is beyond me. There were plenty of guys in the U.S. that could draw a a ninja in 1990. There was absolutely no shortage of ninja skill back then. That was right when all the indie comic publishers were trying to successfully clone Ninja Turtles, there were ninjas in Wolverine comics, The Fat Ninja was pretty cool, Tales of Ninja Warriors was a great ninja anthology series I really liked. Ninjas all over the place. Somehow we ended up with this crappy airbrush garbage and shuriken the size of pizzas.

A C5/C6 is a better car than a Miata in nearly every category. Even in areas like fuel economy and trunk space, and while its nearly three times the price, the prices start to even out as they age. It's also interesting to note that the most lusted after high dollar mod in the Miata world these days is a Vette engine swap.

mazda-mx-5-habu-by-f-5_1600x0w.webp

0-60 in 3.8 sec, btw.

The reality though is that using the full potential of a late period Vette is nearly impossible. There are very few tracks in the world where they can actually get anywhere near their top speed, possibly none on this side of the Atlantic. Most of the time driving a car that powerful is spend holding back the car's potential, wishing you could get on the power more. With a 100HP Miata you can drive all-out almost constantly with the added bonus of not having to buy a $1200 set of tires every track day.

BTW, Vette owners are some serious assholes %90 of the time. This is changing now that Vettes are actually good cars, a recent development, but it's truely a car for assholes. Anyone who disagrees is probably too much of an asshole to realize how true this is and probably would post a brag picture of themselves in front of a TV running Magical Chase in stretched mode. This isn't some theory I came up with myself, it's a pretty established concept. Even many Vette owners agree, since assholes tend to not get along very well with each other when their entire life is essentially a dick measuring contest through a microscope.

There is even a thread about this issue here on this Vette forum.

That's not what he means. What he means is that if someone breaks into his house to steal his games the he'll finally have a legal excuse to do something he's always wanted to do: murder another human being. The pleasure of killing will far outweigh the value of any video game, the cost of cleaning brains out of the carpet, etc.

Being able to kill someone is basically like Christmas for many Americans. No, more like The Rapture. They wait and prepaid their whole lives for it, generations even. Of course they are statistically 20 times more likely to blow their own brains out in a fit of depression than they are to stop the "home invasion fairy" but hey, there's always a chance, right?
