Have you tried any of the other controller pads for the run button? meaning take the button 1 and 2 pad and press it over the run contacts on the pcb to see if it works. If it does then you need to clean your Run button rubber pads. I like to use a small piece of sand paper to lightly rub across the little black circle a few times. I've tried cleaning with various things but that never seems to cut it. Sand paper always works. To be clear I am talking about wiping the rubber circle with sand paper. Not the controller PCB.

That happened to me with security essentials. I added an exception for the folder where I keep the program. security essentials would delete it so fast I could never read why it was deleting it. Nor could I go back into virus history to find out why either. Not a big deal. problem solved.

Quote from: Beartruck on 02/05/2018, 09:27 AMHi guys, after months of ebay stalking, I finally managed to find a CD-ROM2 unit for a decent price. As the title implies, I just need to know what kind of AC adapter would work best on it. I am from the United States. I already have an adapter I'm using for my white base pc engine, so I don't know if that would be compatible or not. Sorry if I come off like a newb, but I wanted to ask the experts.

Image of item for reference:

Is that picture of the actually item you bought? Looks like it comes with the correct ac adapter needed.

I must have ordered one quickly at the beginning of his Black Friday sale because I ended up getting mine in the mail within about 2 and 1/2 Weeks. Guess I was just lucky.

did you try another SD card yet? Hope you got it working.
#155
I thought this sounded familiar. I then listened closely and realized it's the exact same recording!!!
I'm surprised I didn't catch this before.

Shape Shifter Intro
Bud Light commercials
There are also other bud light commercials with partial versions of the song but the above samples are obvious.

Makes me wonder where the original music came from. Probably some classical piece I know nothing about.
#156
yeah, make sure you got the OS file needed on the SD card. I had this problem when I first worked with a V2 everdrive. Didn't realize it needed an OS/bios file where as the older V1 everdrives do not need one.

Just giving this thread a bump. I have a RGB modded PC Engine duo, Coregrafx II with Super CD-rom2 drive,  and a complete PC Engine CD setup ready to go if anyone is interested.
#158
what happens when you try to turn it on now? What does the screen look like?

I don't see why he even bothered making a repro of spriggan one or two. both of these games usually sell for maybe only a little over the cost of the Repro making it silly to get the Repro instead of just getting the real thing.

most of the other repros he sells makes sense since the original game usually sells for much more and can be very costly to get the real thing.

I can't remember for sure but I remember years back I had a regular TurboGrafx CD system that would not work with one of the Sherlock Holmes games I had. I can't remember if I was able to get it to work by making a copy of the disc or if maybe I had to format the internal CD memory.
#162
I'm not cool with him selling any of the translated games since the translations were done by people for free for others of the Tg16/pce community to enjoy for free. Not to mention the megaman conversion that he basically stole. If he didn't do either of these I'd have nothing against him.

That being said, I can definitely see the appeal for the some of the repro collections(especially the US DUO one mentioned in the Life in Gaming video) being sold due to the extreme high price the original games normally command. The manuals included with the games are very well made as well.

Not really that good of a price now since the US dollar exchange rate has taken a big dump. lol
#163
Nice, that's one of those older style turn knobs for the region mod isn't it. I've never done one that way myself but always thought it was cool and interesting to see whenever someone sent me a console for repair with one of those installed in it already.

Quote from: guest on 01/21/2018, 01:47 PMI tried it with some needle nosed pliers and it did indeed come off, although a piece of the plastic came off also. Perhaps my pliers weren't needley enough.
The fact that the part that holds the disc just presses onto the motor spindle seems a bit crap to be honest, seeing as it is spinning at speed.
Bummer man, I too have broken my fair share of these in the past before I figured out the best way to remove them without doing so.

I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure ps1 and dreamcast top spindles will work as well. I think I used one in the past but can't remember for sure. So you could always just order one of those instead. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-CD-Spindle-for-Sony-Playstation-1-PS-One/282750520032?hash=item41d53e8ae0:g:ZggAAOSw0wRaG9RQ

Maybe someone else can chime in and say yes or no.

If I ever decide to buy one of these, I would plan to use a standard pc engine with it so I can have a S-video jack for use on my CRT. I don't like the look of RGB personally. Especially when used on a modern HD TV. Makes me feel like I'm playing on an emulator.

I don't think they will move away from a megadrive style RGB /av port. Too many people in parts of Europe love Sega. So it makes it more convenient for them to have cables that will work with it.
#166
That's a pressed on spindle top. You need to grab a small pair of needle nose pliers and then pry downwards towards the spindle motor thus pushing the spindle top up. If you try to just pry upwards you will snap /break the spindle top.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 01/15/2018, 05:05 PMCheck to make sure the grounding strip on the lens ribbon cable is not grounding/shorting out against the motherboard. This happens rather easily causing the drive to not work.

I typically just remove this strip since it isn't needed.
After running for another 4 hours the cd cut out again and I can't get it to spin anymore, I did not touch the pots which were near perfect. What strip are you referring to, did I overlook a pic in the repair thread?
There is a copper grounding strip that sticks to the larger of the two lens ribbon cables. I just remove them and the black wire connected to it. Be careful to not rip the lens ribbon when doing so.

If this doesn't turn out to be your problem then check all the little the wires that go from the play/track buttons to the main motherboard. I've seen these get shorted/smashed when people close up the case too fast not noticing that some of the wires are near the screw holes.

Quote from: imparanoic on 01/15/2018, 11:05 PMare the jail bars still present with xrgb series upscanner converters?
I assume they would be since this is something that some systems can put out if the jail bar fix is not performed inside the system. Not all systems suffer from jail bars. Meaning, I test every system I perform an RGB mod on first before adding the extra caps for the fix. The fix can actually make things worse if performed on a system that didn't have jail bars to begin with.

I've never been able to successfully do the trick by plugging in my VGA cable after the system has been on shortly. however, I've only tried this on maybe 5 games since most of the games I have just work with the cable. so if I ever want to play any of these five games I just use my CRT television.
#171
Quote from: schweaty on 01/12/2018, 10:58 AMI feel like Im missing something here.  I've seen a couple of posts about most dreamcast games being vga compatible, but when I look on the back of the games I have, it looks like at least half are not.  Huh?
I wonder if this is because most people use CD-rs and at least 95% of games are patched to work with a VGA cable now days.

Also, I have two super generic VGA cables that were maybe $15 each. Never had an issue with either one as far as video quality or buzzing audio is concerned.
#172
Do you have a magnet to use in the meantime? Meaning if you just need something so it is usable I have some pc engine CD magnets that you can use. There is no way to attach it to the CD lid though so you would have to take it off each time to swap out a game.

Quote from: guest on 01/10/2018, 01:30 PMThey could just accept games as-is and be honest with themselves about how any genuine enjoyment they derive comes from their compromise of working around the broken or poorly executed aspects of these games. Instead they tend to dismiss comments from people prefering non-gilded games, particularly rival titles (like Ninja Gaidens for non-Nintendo platforms).
I know what you are saying and think it is a valid point, but maybe a bad example. If someone told me they preferred the PCE version (which I think is the only one that is actually the "same" game, could be wrong there) , I'd have to ask them why, honestly. I'd think the NES version was leagues better even without my Nintendo tramp stamp.
I didn't grow up with the Nintendo version of Ninja Gaiden so I have no Nostalgia for it. With this in mind I prefer the pce version of the game. If I compare the two, I can't stand  how washed out the colors in the Nintendo version Look compared to the PC engine.

this might be because the TurboGrafx was my Nintendo growing up. Meaning if colors don't look as good as the TurboGrafx they can end up looking subpar to me.

Which everdrive do you have? Any Version 1 meaning V1 1.1 1.2 etc.. can only be used as a CD system 2.1 or lower card. Only the newer Everdrives V2 on up can do a super system CD card. You also need the correct patched file for it to work. The regular Bios rom alone will not work until you patch it.

Also, have you tried backing the systems cards out of the converter slightly? Sometimes the pins of those get gummy and require cleaning. Backing them out of the slot slightly usually works if the pins are not clean enough to get it going.

Just tried this out and it works great. The full battle music is pretty good.

Not related to this change but I also noticed that the title screen music also stops once you select the first member of your party to start to game. Same sound effect as when you would kill someone during battle. Not a big deal since this is only at the beginning of the game but funny that any sound effect seems to kill the music everywhere in this game. lol
#177
I do all my lens adjustment by ear. I've done it so much that I can tell by sound which needs to be adjusted. I can't really make a guide for that.

You are going to have to do this by process of elimination. Just start by turning one of the pots any given  direction and then test the CD drive. If it makes no difference then try turning it the opposite way. If that doesn't do anything then put it back to it's original position and move onto another potentiometer and do the same.
#178
Thank you.

I kept searching music, audio , music, audio.

never once thought to type in sound. lol
#179
it could be my imagination but I thought I read a post here once where someone said they made a patch to fix the music but that the sound effects no longer worked.

is this my imagination? I can't seem to find the post anymore.

if this is one of the CD drives with the clear looking gear inside of it then I would not worry about the capacitors. Not saying they couldn't be a problem at some point, but I've never come across one of these CD drives that has the clear stock gear where the capacitors have been a problem.

I would also recommend trying to make some small potentiometer adjustments on the side of the motherboard. If this does not get things going again then this drive might need a replacement lens.

you could probably do this using a regular audio CD as long as you have one with a lot of songs on it. The trick is to get things reading well with songs within the first 1-3 tracks and then songs near the outer edge of the disk which would be around maybe track 18 through 22. obviously depends on the length of each song as to how high of a track number you would need to move up to.
#181
Quote from: mtrienis on 12/31/2017, 12:17 PMHi, where is the diagram for this post?
at the time of this original post it showed how to replace just a few of the capacitors on the board to get the sound working again. Overtime, this has proven to not do much at all anymore since really all the capacitors in the system should be changed. there are other caps on the board that can affect the sound besides the ones initially mentioned in this post.

so if you are experiencing sound issues, just change all the capacitors.
#182
some of these drives came with a KSS 220 and others came with a KSS 162. It's completely normal to see a KSS 220 in there.

can you tell if any of the capacitors have been replaced?

Quote from: Nexus7 on 12/30/2017, 09:17 PMI'm really tempted to sell off my TG-16 + Turbo CD combo for this and a PCE Core Grafx.
I'm struggling with a similar idea myself. Not so much to sell some stuff and make some money. Just because it would make things so dam convenient having the entire library of games at your finger tips.
#184
I was wondering for others what games you don't like for the Turbo where most other people sings its praises.

For example. Forgotten Worlds

I don't know why but I just can't get into this game. So many talk about it like it's one of Capcoms best but it just doesn't do anything for me and I don't know why. It looks amazing, sounds amazing, but I get absolutely nothing out of it. Maybe it's because I didn't own this one on the Turbo growing up. I do like Side Arms though so it's not the style of shooter.

The original gameboy pot works as a replacement. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-Replacement-Volume-Switch-Repair-Parts-For-Gameboy-Color-GBC-Motherboard/182562243778?hash=item2a818ec4c2:g:8rgAAOSwBahVFAjn

gamegear pot is not compatible with a DUO. Even though it has 5 pins the pin order is different. However a game gear pot will work to replace the volume dial for a Turboexpress/Pc engine GT.
#186
I have a bunch of brand new video universal Power supplies that are pc engine compatible just sitting here. $7 shipped if you want one.

They work for pc engine/tg16, NES, SNES, and Genesis Model 1.
#187
the center CD spindle is suppose to be slightly higher then the metal surrounding. There's a good chance yours has gotten pushed down. I've seen this happen quite a few times especially when things get beat up in the mail.

you should be able to see the complete sides of the metal spindle when looking at it from the side not from the top.

if you do need to raise it, the best way to do this is with a small pair of pliers. Put the pliers under the center spindle and actually push down with the pliers against the motor itself 4 Leverage. otherwise, if you try just pulling up on the center spindle you will most likely Bend the motor spindle or the actual metal on the mount itself which makes the CD spin all lop sided
#188
good to know, thanks

By the way, just made myself a CD-R using the .ISO files from the US version with the .wav files from the Japanese version. The Japanese audio Dub syncs up perfectly with the english subtitles. It's pretty awesome.
#189
No worries, it's just cool that you were able to make this patch in the first place. It just makes things so convenient. Not to mention being able to use it in place of a super system card for both pc engine/TG16 systems as well.

I am also glad to find out my TE is fine because the entire time I was testing this game I was worried my everdrive was buggy.
#190
here is a screen shot. Seems to happen with my US cotton as well although the failed sectors are different. Just messes up at 99%.

IMG

Maybe both of the CD drives I tested are wonky? I've been ripping some other games to my pc without  any errors so far. Maybe there is something wrong with my discs even though they look great.
#191
it happens just passed the cutscenes as the adPCM audio starts to play and the main character gets out of bed.
#192
Think I might have found a bug with the game Cotton. Both the US version and JP version have a read error right at the end of the rip. I tested two disc drives with my PC and the same things happens.

Is the error anything to worry about? CD-r seems to still play fine.
#193
Just had a thought. Seeing how fast some games load up in those youtube trailers makes me wonder how much faster Fighting street will load in between rounds. Arcade Neo Geo ports as well.
#194
I've tested both the US and JP patched files with it. No difference. I know it's not my disc because it loads up fine using a system card or built in DUO system card.

Nevertheless great work on the patch. Can't complain if only 1 game out of the entire pc engine library doesn't work correctly with it.
#195
Well after all my testing I never thought it could be the game I was using. I was testing Dragon Slayer II. For whatever reason this game crashes on the first game screen that has ADPCM audio with every system I've tested it on. So there is some bug with this game and the patched file working correctly. Anyone else else stumble across any other games it won't work with?

As of now I've tested 5 other Super CD games with no issues at all. Glad to know my everdrive isn't a dud.
#196
Is there any kind of test I can do to find out if the problem is my everdrive or the patched files I've tried? I've honestly tried multiple ones sent to me by people who claim that they work on their setup. So I'm more leaning towards there being something odd with the everdrive. Not sure if krikzz will let me send it in for any warranty service for this patch/function not working since he doesn't really condone the use of it.
#197
So you can leave your Turbo Everdrive in the system and still run Super CD games without damaging the DUO. That was the original purpose of the patch correct?

I've tried many patches that others have sent me to avail but if you want to send me yours so I can try it again it can't hurt.

I've also tested it in a Turbo Grafx and regular PC engine with the exact same results.
#198
I recently got a new V2.5 and I cannot get the patched file to work. I have tested the everdrive in 3 different DUOs with original power supplies and no region mods. Game starts to load and then crashes immediately on the first picture that shows up. Must be something wrong with my Everdrive?

All game roms load up with no issues at all.

SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a complete gate of thunder 4 in 1 disc with manuals for sale. The gate of thunder manual is perfect. Both Bonk manuals just have some pressure spots where the CD case closes on them. Otherwise they are both in good condition.

The disc is in good shape as well with just some very minor scratches near the outer edge of the disc. They are very difficult to see unless you hold the disc at the correct angle under some light. Does not effect game play at all. It's difficult to get them to show up in pics but there are some included here where you can kind of see them.

The front of the case has a couple scratches on it.

Asking $68 shipped in the US.

Quote from: Gypsy on 12/11/2017, 10:48 PMSo to confirm this will work with any system card under 3.0? I actually don't have anything below that, but figure they'd be cheap enough to buy to play this. Wouldn't want to buy a card and have it not work though so if anyone can confirm what this works with that would be awesome. I believe there is 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1?
Yes it will. You can use an everdrive for those CD cards as well.
