Good eye, Paul!

Quote from: guest on 07/12/2012, 04:00 PMThe rest of the game makes me think of Pyramid Plunder.
Was thinking the same thing.

Quote from: TheOldMan on 07/11/2012, 08:29 PMLet's assume the minimum donation is $5. So, if you donate $5, you get 1 entry. Donate $10, get 2 entries. And so on. That allows the people who really, really want to have it to get more chances.

(Though I would also set a maximum to the number of entries you can get, to keep someone from trying to 'buy' the raffle. I would also have any donation guarantee at least 1 entry, so no one feels left out. )
That sounds good, how about $5 minimum (from here on out) with a max of 5 entries per person? Currently 14 people in the raffle... maybe a max of 30 contestants.
#253
Thanks, Mat! You could've waited to donate, I was gonna take your word for it ;) .

Leave the raffle open until you have the disc, and it's been checked. Once you are clear for pressing, then raffle the disc off. I would have a minimum contribution, with # of entries you get based on multiples of that amount, so no one feels short-changed.

Take all the donations you can get, in case Rover changes his mind and decides to get Jungle Bros. pressed.
Or, use the extra money to fund some other projects here. (We really need cd trays for the AbCards).
I'd love to send the extra money to fund your CD trays. What exactly do you mean by "with # of entries you get based on multiples by that amount"?

Currently up to $211 in funds!
#254
OK tell you what, I have 13 people entered into the raffle currently. I'll accept two more contestants into the raffle + Mathius, since I know he wants in on this so bad. Unless you guys think there should be more, then I'll extend it.

Please keep the donations small at this point, even 1 cent will qualify for the raffle!

Thanks to everyone who has recently donated!

Could the additional donations be put toward any other expenses/bonus materials/advertising? If so, keep it open. If not, wind her down before it turns into a lottery.
Yeah I don't want this to get too big either and keep receiving money we no longer need. We might still have some pre-order bonus material to cover, other than that we don't have anything that needs funding at the moment.

#257
Ya, what they said. ^

Thanks to all your generous donations, we've covered the cost for the check disc (in under 24 hours, amazing)! The Turbo/PCE community has to be the most loyal, supportive, and downright coolest out there in the retro gaming scene!

There are currently 10 users entered into the raffle. Should I keep the raffle going until the disc arrives?
#258
Received and entered into raffle. Thank you!!
#259
Thanks so much, guys! We've now just broke the halfway point for covering the costs of the check disc! Great work!

Quote from: Mathius on 07/09/2012, 08:24 PMI would send a donation if I could afford it at the moment. I have to save my $$ for VGS and the Chicago game stores. Once I get back I'll look into it. :)
No sweat Mat, we're well aware of your wholehearted support :) .
#260
You're good Bernie, I saw your username in the comments. I figured out BlueBMW's username by his email address.
#261
Thanks for the donations guys, this helps us a lot!

Also to anyone else donating, please include your PCEFX username in the comments.

The check disc order has been made! They won't ship outside the US, so I'll have to mail it to CrackTiger myself if he's still interested in testing the disc.

"Hey Keelan,

Great - I will get with billing after lunch and get everything moving here. It takes about 3 business days. Once it's completed I will let you know.

As for shipping to Canada. We do not ship outside the US, so I would have to ship to out to you.

Sincerely,
Brian"

And with that said, I will now take donations for the raffle! My Pay Pal ID is keelan_mckenna@yahoo.com, just make sure to indicate it's a donation in the comment box. Any donation amount will qualify for the raffle, so don't feel pressured to donate more than you're comfortable with!

Yikes Zeta, take a chill pill. He happens to think Jaguar is a good system despite it's bad reputation, who cares?

Quote from: OldRover on 07/08/2012, 10:45 AMKeranu, if you have both the original CDROM unit and a Duo, take it and test it there. I only have a Duo, so it would need to be sent to someone with an original unit too.
I have a Turbo Duo and a PCE Briefcase, but the CD unit on the PCE will no longer load CDs :( . I'll have it sent to CrackTiger, and that way he can also send out any artwork with the raffle if he wants to.
#267
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 07/08/2012, 01:53 AMI mean, you said this. You said it was excellent. You claim that you have the Jag experience to back up your definition of "excellent", unlike me who has clearly never even set eyes on a Jag (so you think), so what is your more educated and valuable opinion on this matter?
Doesn't take much education to understand people like things you don't.

I was gonna have it sent to me just to make things a little easier for Nationwide, but I can tell them to mail it to Nod if he wants it.

QuoteI have $235 worth of pre-order funds in my Pay Pal account to cover the cost for a check disc.
But we shouldn't let you do that. I'll shake down Arkhan for $20. (Only because I don't pay-pal).
Everybody else, pony up.
We were able to cover the production cost very quickly with the pre-orders and I still get the occasional order coming in. People are welcome to donate, a buck or two will do just dandy. I'll start the donation raffle once Brian has the order set.

#273
I think that's an excellent idea, Clash!

I sent Brian an email just awhile ago letting him know to proceed with the check disc. I also asked him if his replication team could give any tech info on how they were able to make the stamper.

I know, LaZer Dorks has been down for the past couple years :( ! I really should bring it back up.

In the mean time, here's my Ys III comparison on archive.org .

I have $235 worth of pre-order funds in my Pay Pal account to cover the cost for a check disc. Since it sounds like just about everyone is in agreement to have one made, I'll go ahead and let Brian know we'd like a check disc to be sent.

Normally, it would take 10 business days to replicate 500 discs, so it shouldn't take longer than that to press a check disc, hopefully even quicker. If we're lucky we might still see a July release, but if things continue to go smoothly we should see a release no later than August.
#276
Quote from: Mathius on 07/06/2012, 10:18 PMDid Ark get a "check disc" made for Insanity?
That's what I'd like to know as well. I assume if our masters work, then the replications would likely work.

We should have enough funds from pre-orders to cover the cost for a check disc, but people are welcome to donate extra.

I don't know how long it will Nationwide to create a test disc; if we go ahead without one, the game would be released by the end of this month, so probably an August release if we take the safe route.
#277
Hurray, some good news at last!

"Hi Keelan,

Replication has informed me that they were able to get a stamper. However, they have recommended that a check disc be sent. The cost for the check disc is normally $195 but because of the issues at hand we are bring the amount down to $150. The other option would be to wave the check disc and proceed by agreeing to the waiver below.

Here is what the replication department sent me.

Looks like the stamper was able to be made!
But.....we are highly recommending that we make a check disc for the stamper and send it out for review.
If choose not to do the check disc, we would require a waiver noting that you understand the master is not to industry spec and may not play correctly in all players. Advise how you wish to go forward.
Thanks!"

The check disc sounds like a gimmick to suck a few more bucks out of us. I wouldn't mind paying for it if we really need it, what do you all think?

Also I'm a little disappointed they didn't mention what the problem was with the masters... apparently they don't need new ones either.

Hold up, is Will Smith really a Turbo fan or is that just a joking reference to Enemy of the State?

I responded to Brian's email yesterday and Rover will be sending TheOldMan copies of the masters ASAP. We would like to find out as much info as we can from their replication software/hardware before switching companies.
#291
Yikes, hold the champaign. Our Turbo train has derailed once again:

"Good morning Keelan,

I was out all day yesterday.

Here is the latest information I received from our replication department.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

We have tried many various ways to read these discs but the format is unusual and we keep getting uncorrectable errors on the transitions.  I have to say that we can't do this format.

It seems this master is able to work on a CDR, but the way it is formatted does not allow a stamper to be made for replication. Candidly if the stamping department cannot get a stamper from the master(s) provided, it's safe to say no one can.

Let us know how you wish to proceed

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Keelan, my apologies but at this time we are not able to replicate with the masters provided.

At this point all the print is completed and ready for the discs. But we can not complete the job without the masters completing the stamping process. Please let me know if your mastering guy knows of any other options and if new masters will be sent. I will keep trying. But, after trying 3 attempts we have exhausted every means.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Sincerely,
Brian"

I wish this was just a bad joke, but that's what was in my inbox today. OldMan, any ideas on this one? Unless they've updated their software, it shouldn't be impossible to replicate our format, as we already know from Insanity's production.

Arkhan if you can find your job #, I could email it to them for reference and maybe that will help. Other than that, I'm all out of ideas.

QuoteBrian did tell me that the replicators did find success with one of the master copies but are still confused
....And you're on to round 2. Now you have to convince them there isn't a problem. Hopefully, the cutter will be able to use the disc. If so, you're home free.
.....If not, we fix the problem (once they tell us what it is) and start again with "It doesn't play in a CD player". <sigh>
He also mentioned something on the phone about how there may be some issue with their company using newer replication software for our old software, but he doesn't know anything about the technical details. We'll wait and see what the email says.

Quote from: Storinoso the holdup is creating the CDs? Why can't they just be burned to regular CDRs on a home computer and then have the labels etched on?
TG/PCE CD and Duo systems can be very picky with CD-Rs and may misalign the lasers. Meteor Blaster was burned to silver CD-Rs and many people had problems running it on their systems. Plus replication is more authentic and professional, we won't settle for less unless we absolutely have to.

Just called Nationwide and spoke to our project manager. Wasn't able to talk to the replication team directly, but Brian did tell me that the replicators did find success with one of the master copies but are still confused with something. I told Brian to reassure his team that the formating is correct, it's for a very old format, and that it's to be expected for it to play audio tracks when inserted into a PC or CD player despite being a video game.

Brian told me he was preparing an email to go out to me today. He sounded like a nice guy on the phone, if that helps us at all :P .
