2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Leaving now, should be there in a couple hours. See y'all there!

Mine arrived! Happy to be Psycho Arkhan's guinea pig for the (INSANELY SWEET!) poster packaging!

IMG

The game arrived in one piece too. Aside from the sticky residue left on the front case from the packaging tape, there aren't any cracks, broken hinges or anything.

This was a really, really well done effort! The poster looks like it could easily pass as 80's/90's full page ad you'd find a gaming magazine, from the fleshed out hand drawn art down to the energy-driven marketing!

Amazing stuff, Aetherbyte raises the bar again! :D

Quote from: Keranu on 03/13/2013, 04:31 PMThat is hands down the coolest homebrew packaging art! Love everything about it, especially the 80's style font!
The 80s were my era. Even if I try to do something modern, it ends up looking 80s. I'm stuck there.
I think just about all of us are stuck in the 80's. 8) (<- gotta wear shades)

It's what they get for upping the priority rate.
Hell yeah, tell them to eat that shit. On the bright side, it seems Pay Pal still charges the same old price for printing shipping labels.

Quote from: Bernie on 03/04/2013, 12:39 PMBrowsing through the blog, I found this.

QuoteAnd finally, not MM related, Dragon Warrior. I never publicly released this game. It's on CD. I'm gonna redo some the emulation code because this game was the very first NES2PCE project that I ever did, then release it publicly. I'll have to figure out BRAM syscard lib and make a save option too.
This is the first time seeing this, and I surely hope it is still on the agenda.  I would love this!  Info taken from here http://pcedev.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/mm1-mm2/#comment-544
We did that several years ago, I think Tom had problems with memory being taken up by the map??  I don't quite remember, but Keranu & Fragmare both worked reworking the tiles & sprites, & I did several redbook versions of the tunes, but I never finished them all.  I think the castle & town tunes were done, the dungeon still needed more, as did the title screen.  The overworld theme was close to done.  I had a couple of different versions of the battle theme, I'm still not sure which one I liked best, but I did want to have 2 versions.  1 for regular battles, & 1 for "boss" battles, & I think we were going to make the "bosses" look slightly different, since in the original, they're just repaints of other enemies.  I'm sure there's another tune or 2 I'm forgetting.  I was working on an evil town theme, where I mixed the music of the dungeon, with the instruments of the town theme.  IIRC, Tom was going to try n' hack the game, so that when you wanted to talk or search, you didn't have to open up a menu each time!  Oh, I think either Black Tiger or Frag (or both) reworked the title screen, so that it looked like the usual Dragon Quest logo, but said Dragon Warrior.

We also tossed ideas around of seeing if we could make some limited cinemas, maybe taking snippets from the old Dragon Quest anime.  That's all I can recall at the moment.
I'd still be down with finishing that project if everyone else was committed. Some great work was put into that, shame to see it go to waste.

One aspect to keep in mind regarding the translation projects is that it's probably only a matter of time before somebody like Care4Data swoops in for the opportunity to produce those games and sell them purely for self profit on eBay. And, kind of shameful for me to admit, I'd probably be one to buy it... but I'd feel much better supporting a community-driven production than giving money to some anonymous bootlickin' bootlegger.

I know it's going to be shot down, but just to show how much demand there is, I vote Ys IV!

Added AMIGA SCSI controller and Power Joy Famiclone.

Quote from: kazekirifx on 01/28/2013, 07:35 PMIf you're gonna put "chase" in a PCE title, it had better be a sequel to Magical Chase.
But Magical Chase is already the sequel to Magical Sauras Tour. Revival Chase is the sequel to Chase HQ, not to be confused with Psycho Chaser, which is actually a gaiden and spawned its own North American exclusive sequel: Psychosis.
Thanks for the new signature ;)

Haven't seen Nod/Old Rover around on the Frozen Utopia forums lately. Unfortunately I have no clue on the status of both of your packages. If I had extra DVDs, I'd re-send the whole set to ya's.

Homebrew must not generate as much excitement in Japan as it does in the rest of the world. Maybe because it's mostly made by Westerners.

I was hoping to see at least one Japanese name in the order list, but it's good enough to hear that Arkhan managed to connect to a Japanese audience. This is the land of PCE we're talking about, they should be buying our games up! :D
#65
I don't know the latest numbers for MSR's sales, but last time I was in charge of handling them I believe we had reached 200. Only 500 copies were produced, so we have sold close to half our inventory.

We had orders all around the world: US, France, and Canada were probably the top three, but we've also had sales from Germany, Japan, Switzerland, UK and Ireland, Finland, Brazil, and the Philippines. I'd like to make a sales chart comparing how well it sold in these countries.

The interesting thing about all the orders from Japan was that they were all bought under English names. I don't think any native Japanese person bought MSR.
#66
Thanks for the great feedback, glad to hear it! Now lets hope you can score a SMS soon!

All that yellow is BURNING MY RETINAS! That's some collection you got there!

If I hadn't signed on AIM for the first time in years recently, I probably would have forgotten his name too. But since he's on my buddylist, his name is listed as "slownerveaction". Close enough, good times!

On another note, would there be any interest in an AMIGA SCSI controller with hard drive?

All Master System, Genesis, and Sega CD games have been sold! I may have a few more to add later though.

I may have bought that cart from a fellow Famiconsumer user... I can't remember what it was like exactly, but it was cool and unique. It's just such a pain pulling out the NES and constantly blowing on cartridges to get them to work!

I have a lot of games that have been sitting around for years that I don't play and probably never will and would like to clear up some space. So here's my sale!

All prices are totally negotiable, so don't feel afraid to ask! Shipping prices will have to be calculated at checkout... I'd prefer to stick to flat-rate Priority Mail boxes when applicable, but I can ship any method and won't charge for handling.

Sony AM/FM Stero Cassette-Corder Model No. WA-200 - Sweet 80's walkman I picked up at a thrift store years ago. Something about it doesn't work, I can look into it if anyone's interested. Name your price!

IMG

Power Joy (Famicom clone) Controller - Also don't know much about this other than it's one retarded controller with a cartridge slot in the back that plays Famicom games. I think it also has crappy built in games on the chip. Never been able to try using this, it might require a special battery pack to power it on, which I don't have. Name your price!

The Simpsons DVD sets - Simpsons 6th season DVD set (looks brand new, unused) - $7

junksale/simpsons.jpg

2gb Dell Laptop RAM - Two 1gb Dell RAM sticks for laptops. Haven't tested them but they look unused. Product code is SNPINSP6000BK2/2GX7. Will sell for $20 and offer refund if product doesn't work.

Coupon Dispensers - Uhh, yeah. I got these from a grocery store I worked at years ago thinking it would be awesome, but never did anything cool with them. These DID work when I first got them, but I can't get them to power on with batteries at the moment, maybe I just need to play around with them more. I'll sell them $5 a piece, or $6 for both, or best offer. They come with [expired] coupons!

I don't get it. In the other thread people were telling Ragtime to "drop it already", yet now there's a new thread instigating the debate all over again?

Call it a hunch, but I think Ragtime struck a few nerves in that other thread because no one, save maybe Nightwolve, could debate the principles he was defending. For just one person against a wave of others, Ragtime held his argument quite well! 8)

What can I say? I like the unpopular wackos. :)

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 11/05/2012, 04:27 AMYeah, the point of this thread is to get the game dumped so everyone can see it (probably more for historical reasons, the game is probably not fun). Nobody here will be getting rich. Everyone would lose money.

I think it's much more sad that it takes a motherfucking hurricane to make you aware than there are people suffering in the world.

"Right now", fucking hell. People are starving to death by the tens of thousands EVERY DAY. If you're going to sell all your stuff and live like Ghandi for the rest of your live so you can help people then that's fine completely wonderful and I support it fully...but since you are writing on a video game forum right now I'm pretty sure you buy dumb shit quite often, just like the rest of us. If you're going to be sitting outside of Best Buy on Black Friday for a $100 laptop then please go fuck yourself. There is no difference between someone buying a $5000 game or a $5000 car or a $5000 gold plated dildo. Why single out this purchase instead of all the other shit people are spending money on every second of every day?

There are worse things that can be done with $50. It's not like we're spending the money on cigarettes or Assasin's Creed III, or Jersey Shore DVDs, and it's not like you have the slightest idea how much money we donate to other causes either.
Hahaha, this is the best post in the entire Dino Force debacle! And I agree entirely!

Man I never even heard of this guy before yet this news feels so devastating. Rest in Peace, Tony.

Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 11/03/2012, 04:21 PMYikes, spreading to the brain & spine does not sound good.  I'm glad he's keeping up a good attitude.  I truly believe that having a positive attitude can't make a difference on the body.  As an example, my great grandfather lived to be 100, didn't have a single grey hair until his wife died, then he all of a sudden turned grey & I believe died within a year after her.  He just didn't feel like hanging on anymore since losing his wife.  The mind can really play a good part in the outcome of various ailments.  Like Johsua, I don't know him, but I wish Tony & his family well, & pray for them!
Similarly, there was a member on my mom's side of the family that was told by a doctor she'd die in her 40's, yet by staying active and consuming garlic daily, she lived until 100!

Man I never seen that Splattehouse commerical before, I don't know how I could've missed it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I was really impressed by the production quality, has a very US NES commercial feel. The end with the camera zooming past a library of Turbo games followed by a 3D animation of the official TG16 logo with Rick's sprite walking up to smack it with a 2x4 was a really cool touch!

I always wondered the same thing, not just for PCE but homebrew in general. I get the feeling that Japanese collectors frown upon anything that isn't official or canonical.

You live in Japan still, right? Have you showed any gamers out there any of the PCE homebrew stuff that's around? I'd love for our games to get more attention out there.
