10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

AVGN took the part of the movie that is just the actual game review and put it on his site to watch for free.  Meaning you can skip the whole movie thing and just see the Atari game itself.

Can you swap that Lighning Fighters over to a proper Trigon?  Trigon's appeal is the Trigon weapon pod, which was totally removed from the USA version, making it a rather generic go up and shoot game.

12 PCE-LDs
3 Turbo-LDs

That's the whole list.

Doom 2 for X360 Live Arcade.   The new exclusive episode it includes is fantastic.  A must play.

The problem with a CMVS, is that if you are willing to pay a good chunk of cash, you are far better off buying a nice fully featured supergun, as then you can play other arcade boards.   A dedicated CMVS only plays MVS.  If you have tons of cash to blow go for it, but I feel your typical budget-minded MVS owner can do better.

I assume what ever saves the data is dead.  Most likely a battery.  Since you are calling it an ''Omega'' I'm guessing this is one of those insanely overpriced massproduced CMVS units.   You should ask the guy that made it.

Hell yes.

By the way, have you, or anyone else, watched the Cosmic Fantasy OVA?

I think someone posted a link to it at some point...

One more thing I'm curious about.
Yeah I subtitled the damn thing. :)

The CD Exclusive -> MVS fan ports often don't have music though, as the CD games only have redbook CD music.

Haven't seen the movie, but from the few previews of his I watched, I assumed the focus was on doing lots of old-school practical effects, the E.T. attachment was just there for the sake of all AVGN works needing to be linked to a game of some kind.

PC ENGINE XE-1 AJ INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER (XE1-AJ)

I do not think there is a specific PC-Engine version of the Intelligent Controller.
It is more commonly called the Cyberstick.  It was produced via partnership by both Micomsoft and Sharp.
The Micomsoft version has red buttons, while the Sharp one has black buttons and was the official analog controller of the X68000.  To use the controller on a PCEngine, you have to use the XHE-3 adapter.  Micomsoft still has a list of their discontinued hardware on their website, and there is no mention of a PCE specific version....

If people are throwing the Amiha in there, the X68000 should be added, which is clearly number 2 behind PCE.

I see no point in repro boxes.  If you just want to store a system, use anything.  If you want to have a glass case full of shit to film youtube videos in front of, get the real deal or look like an even bigger tool.
#264
Japanese cables work the best.  People just avoid them as they are harder to find.  I don't have a Mini, but I have around 10 or so Micomsoft devices, and never had an issue with my Japanese cables....

The sad part is that for a long time Sengoku 3 was the number 1 sac cart for making boots.  The Neo Store had massive lot of them, people bought them and used them to convert into other games, now legit Sengoku 2001/3 is almost impossible to get.  Never selling mine, though to be honest I prefer Sengoku 2.  2001 is a very purdy game, but feels a bit too repetative imo.

As stated, it's a bit too late to get into the AES game for normal people.  Haven't bought a new cart in roughly 4 years or so...   I love the shooties.

Quite sure theres a VHS of Speed in my parents house still, better move it to the safe-deposit box.

Well the problem with LD games is that there is only so much you can do with an hour of video and sprite overlays.  And if you don't use the video, no real point in it being on LD.  I would have loved to have Lunar 1 and 2 on LD though.....
#270
To be honest it's not a very good game.... Any RPG fan will probably find it quite boring, has lots of crap that just forces you to spend more time grinding to make the game longer then it really is.  And watching the same 5 frames of video loop everytime you take a step forward gets boring fast.  As the only true RPG on LD, it's an interesting curiosity, but if it was on any other system it be labeled terrible by just about everyone.

Back when I was a kid my rich friend just got the shiny new Genesis and didn't care about his old NES anymore, I traded him a set of magnetic marbles for his Castlevania III. :)

If you want to see for yourself get a cheap pair of sunglasses and knock out one of the lenses. That's all these are really. Darkening one eye tricks your brain into seeing 3D depth.  The effect is dependent on parallax scrolling.   Works very well with Darius as you get a giant parallax layer with lots of sprites all going the same way at a different speed.

The glasses are actually made by Sony, NEC Avenue just stuck a sticker on top.

I think 2/3 of the owners here got their LAs through BlueBMW lol.
#278
Another LA owner here.  This forum probably has the largest amount of people who own LAs and actually use them as opposed to the ''glass case gamers''
#279
Overall I'd say Chipchan Kick is the best game on the system.  It's fantastic, long, and 2 players.

Most of the other games have been mentioned.  However if you have some Japanese ability, I highly recommend Blue Breaker.  It is a very unique game, a pain in the ass to really grasp even for Japanese speakers, but once you get into the flow of it, an outstanding game, and the FX original is the only version that isn't riddled with bugs and annoyances.
#280
Cychorider is quite impressive too now that I think about it.  On max game speed it moves REALLY fast but still remains perfectly smooth and records a reply at the same time.  Fantasticly well made for a freebie bonus game.
#281
Not sure how much it pushes the system, but Metamor Jupiter's rotating colony stage always makes me drool.  The game does some large scaling effects at times though they are quite slow.
#282
Possibly, it's basically the SegaCD version, though in 32bit color, has a lot more background detail as well.
#283
Fuck that, we already have a perfectly hot-blooded high score sub-forum.

Finally after many years I finally have this piece of shit.  :)

Quote from: InfraMan on 07/14/2014, 07:10 PMThat's really cool... I didn't even realize Silpheed had a PC release! Neat find =D>
Silpheed was originally developed for the NEC PC-8801 computer series.  Way back in the day Sierra visited Japan to demo their ''amazing computer games'' to the Japanese, when there the opposite happened and Sierra was amazed by what GameArts was doing and licenesed Silpheed and Thexder from them and sold PC ports in the USA.

The card should work with most recording software.  I use AmaRec with the lagarith encoder.

From the people I've talked to, the external X-Capture still seems to give some people issues.  I think a lot of it is due to USB 3.0 chipset compatibility problems.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 07/12/2014, 06:33 PMGot a brand new Framemeister in yesterday! Can't help Game Sack since it refuses to run at a proper refresh rate even with Sync Mode turned off and therefore I cannot capture its footage. So I have zero use for it. And I have already sold it. Goodbye, useless Framemeister! The XPC-4 is much better but it still is very hard to get it to look right on 15khz sources (240p).
Get your self one of the Micomsoft Capture cards and the XSync-1.  Not cheap, but real 240p RGB at 60fps capturing.  I know jack shit about video editing, and this was my first try.  No filters used here, just nearest neighbor upscaling.  Note the quality was hurt a lot as I blended every 2 frames in order to keep Sapphire's special effects...  The raw capture is truly stunning.  S-Video and Composite look great too.

The Changer doesn't count.  It's just the arcade board modified with a more home user friendly test mode and a crappy S-Video only commercial supergun.
Similar to the AES.
Ahhh

Still can't find diddly on either potential home ports to play this game.  Or even Jamma boards.  Sigh.  Guess emulation it is
There is no good port of Cannon Dancer/Osman.  The pcb is the only way to play it, and it's very rare and very popular.  The original Japanese version (Cannon Dancer) will run you $800 or so these days.
#291
That was the 2nd run.  There is going to be a third run, but some of the parts are hard to get these days so they only do it every few years so they can sell a ton of them in order to make a profit.  A third run is comming eventually by direct work of the President of Micomsoft, but no date yet, so maybe next year.
#292
The Selecty 21 is quite rare right now, but Micomsoft is going to do another sales run of them, no idea as to when, but they have said it will come.

Whatever I want. lol   I have about 40 or so PCBs.  The entire top rack is devoted to them.

The new place, had to get it all in one room.  Most of the games are in the closet which you can't see (its behind me)

The Turbo is in Black/Green and Red/Blue.  Mine is the Red/Blue.  The Red is a bit more orangish then the standard Red Twin.

Thank you and, this game looks silly.
Its not a game, its a fortune telling machine really.  Basically you pick a category and the devil asks you a question pauses for a few seconds, and then tells you the real truth behind your answer.  For example, one subject is camping.  He will ask "Who would you pick to make the fire?"  "That person is someone you want to have sex with because fire is hot."  As a cheesy party game for Japanese speakers its ok, but being a video his answers never change, so its kind of a one trick retarded pony.
