O.K so the only perk of being an insomniac is that i get to spend many hours trawling for Indie games, I discovered this one a couple weeks ago and its pretty cool.

It has a lot of obvious Turbo Grafx influence from the intro onwards and it looks like if Dead Moon did have a sequel on cd due to the screaming guitar soundtrack.

It plays pretty nice and for a dollar you cant really go wrong.

Quote from: guest on 01/06/2014, 06:19 PMSeriously, Super R-Type? Not Macross SV?

Why even include SNES at all?

I'm guessing that Super Gradius III is being saved for a Gradius II versus.
R-type 3 isn't super R-Type but i agree macross kicks the ass of all these games.

Quote from: YANDMAN on 12/27/2013, 12:35 PMI  consistently pay high prices for any turbo games because they are soooooooooo thin on the ground in the u.k and europe, im equally confused by shipping costs from the states some people want like $20 per card others $6 when i question sellers they say the $20 is standard and there is no cheaper option im hoping to make it over for a few days next year and hopefully bolster my collection considerably.
No joke, the small flat-rate box to any international address is 24.95$ now.  That flatrate box can hold three jewelcases safely.  That's it.

It costs 11-12$ to send a jewel case in a first-class parcel to Europe.   It's pretty retarded.
Man this sucks and yet i can order a stack of like 10-15 cards from japan and get them for $10 done. Damn this postage shizz dont these guys know they are fucking with my Turbo love!

Currently playing Neutopia, Final lap twin and Lords of thunder

Axelay is a beautiful powerhouse display of graphical goodness but the sound fx suffer from the classic snes reverb in a big way, Soldier blade is an entirely different beast but a better one for it, Its fluid,B Beautiful and fun= perfect game ingredients.

Quote from: jperryss on 12/23/2013, 03:31 PM$150 is a ripoff even if you're talking about the fancy SAG version. The regular $79 version, however, is worth every penny and you can buy it direct right here.

I want one but funstock sell this Krizz version for £100 in the u.k

Quote from: A Black Falcon on 12/19/2013, 04:01 PMSeriously, I own Energy.  That game's actually fun darnit, I don't care that most people hate it.  But China Warrior is a complete disaster... that whole genre it's in, with stuff like Kung-Fu (NES/etc), Black Belt (SMS), Vigilante, etc. are mostly awful too, so that's part of the problem, but the difficulty level and repetition are also big problems in the game.
Wooooooooah slow up pedro, Vigilante is a briliant game and so is Kung Fu both totally playable with great graphics for their respective systems, Fluid game play and generally well executed

Or the difference could be classic arcade titles from the powerhouse that is capcom or jerky seemingly rushed side scroller ..........But all that said i do play it sometimes for a few minutes.
#67
This is one i built myself.

Wow those are really cool thank you for sharing those pics, I want that fully enclosed kiosk in the second picture with the glass shelving that is beautiful, Not to difficult to re-create but sadly i dont have a cd to fill it with and i do already have a Turbo arcade machine ;) but it is beautiful this is exactly the kind of thing i was wondering about so thanks again.

Quote from: YANDMAN on 12/16/2013, 11:57 AMOr can anyone recall how they were displayed in shops, Were they set up and running at all?
I remember seeing the Turbo running but it wasn't in anything special other than in a typical glass case.  There are a few kiosks out there. Sparky has one which is pretty amazing.  He's posted a few pics of it here:

As well as another pic Sparky posted sometime back, found here:

Wow great picture that thing is awesome, Was there ever any Turbo Grafx shop display rigs similar to the Nintendo M82?

Or can anyone recall how they were displayed in shops, Were they set up and running at all?

I would like to know the whereabouts of all the last cheap sealed Turbo games and consoles for cheap.
#71
certainly a very cool piece to have in a collection.
#72
Wondered if any of you guys actually own one of these display stands or have seen one in the flesh, I once saw an ad for someone selling some of the flip pages from the binder.

These other game sack guys iv'e been watching and supporting ferociously are getting big these days.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 12/13/2013, 12:30 AMNo he isn't, not even close. He has 328,000 subscribers (roughly 10 times as many as I have) but there are many more with MILLIONS. Mostly Let's Play type of people. Those videos are generally the worst yet the most popular.

it doesn't work like that, if you want to send in a game you have to go to the website and fill out an application form, You then mail that to them they then get back to you and say yes fine send it in and we will review it.

I know because in my two years or so of complaining at the lack of Turbo/pc engine coverage this is what i was told, It s a great show and he does a good job i just find this part annoying, I never feel like were seeing his passion as its always someone else's game.........Still at least he is finally giving some exposure to the games and systems.

Quote from: MrFlutterPie on 12/14/2013, 08:21 PMI was thinking about the fact he mostly reviews games that are sent into the show.  It's annoying that he doesn't expand his horizon more but then I got thinking.

Maybe he does it out respect for the people that sent stuff in?  I mean if I shipped him something for free I would damn well want to see him review it.  He's pretty big so maybe he gets a lot of stuff for free and when he reviews the game it's his way of saying thank you.

Or maybe people are jealous at all the free shit he gets and just want to complain :P

I do love the Thunderforce games but im not a huge fan of three, The controls are too twitchy for my liking and in this comparison there is none, Gates of thunder is far better.
#77
I wonder how AVGN will respond to this, These two guys are about the biggest on the tube.

Ha ha exactly dude

I too love my Megadrive but i never got one until about 99/2000 i was a Nintendo kid the whole way, i would of loved to of been a Turbo kid but had no chance of getting my hands on one back then.

Tatsujin that's a really cool advert thanks for sharing, Old video game adverts and magazines in general are the best, Do any of you guys own any of those Turbo Grafx flyers that were around at launch?

I would love one of those.

Quote from: johnnykonami on 12/12/2013, 06:17 PMFor me, I was sold by television commercials and the kiosk set up at Toys 'R Us - Last boss of Legendary Axe and Valis II impressed me a lot at the time.  I got a TG-16 with Alien Crush (and included KC) of course for christmas the year it came out (89 or 90?) and 3 years later I would ogle over that special issue of Turboforce or whatever it was that was basically a huge brochure for the Turbo Duo.  I saved up my money all summer mowing lawns, and my Sister and Bro in law who knew I wanted it badly (they were 10 years older and didn't know about video games really) went out and bought it for me while I was in school.  Of course, they had accidentally bought me the FEKA CD which the guy at EB told them was probably what I wanted.  Of course they ran me back out there later for an exchange and to this day the Duo is still my favorite system!

I love Sega too, BTW.  Even have quite a few Sega CD titles in my collection!
What was it like to own one at launch? It must of been magical i honestly cannot imagine what it would of been like to me as it really would of been the arcade at home had i gotten vigilante for the system and that would of been more excitement than my child hood body could handle, Its a shame with the way gaming has moved on that such special moments can no longer be experienced.

Wo and to get the Duo also thats really very cool.

Quote from: guest on 12/11/2013, 02:26 PMToo many to list, not just games I think are great, but games I really would chose over all platforms. The big one obviously is TM/FEOE Fuun Kabuki Den, which never gets old.

Bloody Wolf is actually arcade-superior, with double the framerate, infinitely better soundtrack, double(?) the length and bonus modes to keep it interesting for longer. The arcade version shouldn't have been released as-is. The PCE version isn't really a port, since the arcade runs on PCE hardware, except the sound, which wasn't ported. :P
very interesting this i did not know

CGR is one of the probably top three biggest on the Tube
#85
It blew my mind back then, Pre internet and with no u.k release so no exposure in shops or stores seeing the system completely took me by surprise and captivated me from the first glance, It was like you've just got used to loving your Nintendo and then this appears and now you don't want your Nintendo ha ha
#86
Yes CGR has a huge audience and following but it annoys me how they give the turbo and pc engine almost no air time at all.

I have been writing them for two years on and off simply asking as to why this is, mark the host is a supposed self confessed shooter'holic and Turbo fan yet for a period of five years he did one review Blazing lazers and continued to review the gamecom and other similar tat.

They only review games generally if someone sends them in for free which i think is really cheap.

yes lets hope this brings more exposure to this game and the truly great systems
#87
Thanks for that, some of the turbo advertising is sooooooooo cool i love it, Ahhhhhh the Turbo is so cool

Quote from: YANDMAN on 12/09/2013, 04:01 AMHello again

Those of you that read my first post here a few months back might recall how i first saw a Turbo advertised in a comic i was reading in 1990..........Well i happened to find that same comic and here it is for your viewing pleasure :)

It is just a comic but it makes me feel so nostalgic, I had not all that long had my NES at the time and seeing these pics blew my mind as vigilante was one of my favourite arcade games as a kid and i though what how is this possible what is this strange sounding machine the name Turbo-Grafx 16 did seem really odd to me as a kid like a powerful robot or something which is actually what it is.
Here's a scan of that ad (it was part of a larger, 4-page thingie in other mags):

I actually play very few two player games, maybe Bomberman from time to time, Although people moan about the single controller port i actually love its arrogance it ads the the persona of this beautiful machine and lets face it most of the good games are best enjoyed alone.

Quote from: 420GOAT on 12/09/2013, 12:11 PMi have that comic, was just showing my kid a couple of weeks ago. hahaha, he thinks Arkham is a city, and can not get his head around it being an Asylum started by the founder Dr Arkham. anyway, those were good times. the commercial that got me was the one with that dog that wigs out.
Wow you have it too thats cool man, You mean the legendary axe commercial where the dog is drinking the milk or whatever?
#91
yeah it really was special as it was in a box of other cool stuff from the time, I browsed through as i would of at the time and part way through there is a NES advert for fire shark which i wanted as soon as i saw that, Then when i reached the end i was like Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat i want this now whatever it is.

20 odd years later and i got my wish :)

Quote from: EvilEvoIX on 12/06/2013, 11:38 AMThe Legendary Ax II, the music alone makes it worth it.
Bloody Wolf, who can't love this game, wish it was 2 player but other than that.
Blazing Lasers, such an amazing effort for an early title.
Great to see some Bloody wolf, Some people bash this game for some odd reason, i think most dont realise its an arcade port and a damn near perfect one too.

What games do you really feel passionate about or that just really make you feel good to play as soon as you throw that switch??

Whether it be nostalgia or just a love of an awesome game.

I cant help but love every single time i hear the Soldier Blade music and knowing what great blasting is to follow, I love Legendary Axe because its awesome but so typically Turbo with great music and i also love keith courage there i said it, lots of people bash it but it was the first Title i ever saw a picture of and i do enjoy its quirky nature.
