Why in God's name do these things always happen when I'm not here? I've even been looking for this game! ](*,)
#152
Might as well join in the fun! :D

Name - Landis
Age - 25
Class - Warrior
Personality - Slightly aloof, but friendly when social. Doesn't back down from a fight he sees as important, even if he might have a slim chance at winning. Very heroic when he needs to be.
Appearance - Short, but slightly shaggy brown hair long purple hair, piercing blue eyes, and quite handsome. Looks very strong.
Equipment -

-Magic armor that allows him to shoot projectiles comprised of one of the four elements. The drawback is that switching elements takes intense concentration and therefore cannot be done during combat. It also gives him the power of flight.

-Magic Sword that has the elemental properties that his armor currently uses.

Starting Max HP - 25
Money - 100
Skills - Expert swordsman, high accuracy.
Biography - Three years ago, he saved his homeland of Mystral from the destruction of the evil God, Zaggart, after he was unsealed by a crazed cult. He is the descendant of the legendary hero, Dyu, whom had previously sealed Zaggart long ago. Not much is known about him beyond that, although it is rumored that he might have a girlfriend somewhere.

Additional facts - It is believed by many that Landis is a skilled magic user, however the magic power actually comes from his armor, blessed by the Goddess, Pharina.

One liner - "I applaud your bravery, but don't throw your life away in a fight with me."

EDIT: Because I'm an idiot who doesn't do enough research on my character, I got Landis' hair wrong! Fixed.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: WTB: Turbo Duo
03/26/2014, 02:42 PM
Welcome to the club! :D

The Turbo truly is an amazing console, one of the most underrated ever, and considering the fact that you like shmups, I have a feeling that you'll love it. There are many excellent shooters for the system, many of them exclusive to it. Definitely look for the following:

-Blazing Lazers (HuCard)
-Gate of Thunder (Super CD)
-Lords of Thunder (Super CD)
-Star Soldier series (HuCard)

Those are just a few of the very best (that I've played). There are many others that will be worth your time. And, of course, there are many other different genres of games to play.

Still, I recommend you at least consider looking for a Japanese system. The PC Engine (as the Turbo was known over there) was much more popular there and will most likely be easier to find. They're also easy to get modded to play both American and Japanese HuCards (CD games are not region locked). If you're looking for an American Turbo Duo, you might be looking for a while, especially if you're looking for a good price.

Thanks for coming here! I hope your stay is long, yet pleasant.

I recently upgraded my copy of Dragon Warrior 1 to the "Subscription Version" so I have an extra copy that I've been trying to get rid of. It has the box, manual, explorer's handbook (strategy guide), and of course, the cart. It doesn't have the maps and charts, though.

It's in pretty good condition and I can also replace the battery for you. What do you think? :)

My little sister has this game, and I must agree. It looks really cool and unique.

As far as my picks, I am a big fan of a couple Sega Genesis games that don't get enough love.

Beyond Oasis (Genesis) - An excellent Zelda style adventure. Lots of secrets, a unique fighting system that has beat-em-up elements, a unique magic system, and created by Yuzo Koshiro's company, Ancient. I love this game, but I don't hear it discussed much, which is truly a crime. I remember going to a Blockbuster in the mid 1990s and renting this game. My dad saw it and recommended it, saying it looked good, and I remember being very skeptical. I rented it anyway, and even though I had no idea what to do, I fell in love. I must've spent hours running around the first area of the game, killing monsters aimlessly. Finally, not long before I had to take the game back, I figured out what I was supposed to do. I hadn't talked to the King! I went into the throne room, but didn't see any way to get over to the king, and it wasn't until later that I realized there were stairs leading up to him. I was playing on a really crummy old TV, and couldn't tell they were there. I had just assumed they were a wall. I quickly bought the game, and I've loved action-adventures ever since.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (Genesis) - Even though the movie sucked and was a huge disappointment even when I was a kid (I couldn't put it in those words at the time, of course, but even then, I liked the first one better.), the completely forgotten Genesis game based on it is still one of my personal favorites. I believe it was one of the last Genesis games officially released, and it does feel quite advanced for the system. It wasn't just a straight up side-scrolling action game like Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition. While it did have a few similarities to those games, like the way weapons were found around the levels and added to your inventory, the gameplay was substantially different. Instead of just making your way to the end of the level, you were usually tasked with some sort of objective to accomplish, whether it be destroying dinosaur nests, or capturing several Stegosauruses by luring them into a cage, or many others. After you complete the first level, where you basically just have to make your way to the end (one of the few of this type), you are thrown into a hub level from which you can access several other levels. Once you complete all the levels in the hub, you unlock a huge setpiece boss level which functions very differently from the normal levels. The graphics on these are quite impressive for the system. When you complete the boss level, you move on to the next hub. There are tons of unique features, like vehicles you can ride, lots of enemy types, a few strategy elements (You can earn tokens by finding them in the wild or by capturing dinos, which you can redeem for items.), and fairly nice graphics. It really feels like a game for a more advanced system, while still maintaining a special old-school charm. Definitely one to try.

Oh. My. God.

I don't think I've ever seen such a blowout. Seattle made Denver its bitch! ](*,)

Final Score: Seahawks: 43, Broncos: 8.

My Dad and I were expecting a fairly close game, and rooted for Denver (My family and I live in Wyoming). Then they fumbled on the first hike of the game, giving Seattle a safety, and it was all downhill from there. By the end of the game, I had switched sides to root for Seattle. Denver was THAT awful. They played so bad that Dad felt physically ill. We were completely shocked.

Seriously, this is the kind of game that gets players on the losing team fired. I think this one will be remembered (and studied) for a long time.

This is exactly why I put that sentence in. I was thinking ahead!

Also, as someone who really DOES have Aspergers, I am VERY offended by Xak using his disability as an excuse to behave however he wants, assuming he's even telling the truth. Aspergers is NOT the reason you act the way you do, Xak. The REAL reason is that you are a immature attention whore who demands everyone look at you every time you come on the forum.

Aspergers is NOT something you joke about having. It is a real affliction that causes a lot of problems for the afflicted (including me). I may be awkward in social situations, have strange tics and habits, and have trouble remembering what I'm supposed to do today, but I'm apparently still light-years ahead of your ability to function. I'm currently taking college courses, have a small circle of good friends, and I generally try to do my best, despite the enormous obstacles. YOU on the other hand, spend your time ranting like a lunatic on a video game forum, hoping people will pity you, and to be frank, you make me want to hunt you down and beat the shit out of you for even having the GALL to claim it's all because you have this disability that you probably are lying through your teeth about.

Go home, Xak. And take your bullshit excuses with you.

I'm not going to spend hours trying to figure this out. You make it sound so easy to ignore him; it's not. If it were, everyone would've done it already.

Quote from: SuperDeadite on 01/29/2014, 07:59 PMI'm against the ban.  Everyone knows his game already, just sit back and have a good rolf.
I would if his posts were actually funny. The only enjoyment that comes from having him around, is in OTHER users' responses to him. Users who actually serve a purpose on these forums. Xak's posts don't make me laugh. They just make me feel horrible inside, like I feel so sorry for the poor wretch creating them, and this is coming from someone who struggles with a minor mental illness himself.

It's weird, I both feel bad for Xak, and at the same time, completely repulsed by him. The reason I have started this petition is so that other members don't have to have that same reaction every time Xak posts some new piece of sickness.
#180
The problem with trying to ignore him is that we are not perfect. Sooner or later someone is going to snap at him and give him his fix. If we perma-ban him, the problem is solved, at least temporarily. It's not just Xak that infuriates me, it's also the apathy on the part of the mods. We should NOT have to put up with this retard. Period.

Fighting Street / The Petition to Ban Xak
01/29/2014, 06:52 PM
I should've made this thread a long time ago.

The member of this forum going by the username of 'Xak' has proven time and time again that he has nothing intelligent or noteworthy to add to any discussion on this forum. He has repeatedly shown that he cannot be taught, that he refuses to learn from his mistakes, and that he shows no remorse for his bizarre actions and posts. His posts add nothing to this forum, not even comedy value.

It is time for action. We need to show the negligent moderators of this forum that we will not stand for this obnoxious, vile behavior on Xak's part. I hereby ask all members of this forum to please sign this petition to the moderators for the express purpose of having Xak banned.

Every user who posts in this thread is considered to have signed the petition. Hopefully, with enough support, we can make this forum a better place.

Thank you for your time.

EDIT: Do you tire of having to skip through Xak's inane posts, or even worse, read them? Follow this simple guide, so you may no longer suffer!

How to add Xak to your ignore list:

1. Go to the top of the forum and click the button under your username labeled "Account Settings".

2. Highlight the "Modify Profile" button. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on the option labeled "Buddies/Ignore List".

3. Click the "Edit Ignore List" button.

4. Type "Xak" in the text box labeled "Member", and click the username that appears.

5. Click the "Add" button.

Follow these steps, and Xak's posts will only appear if you click on the "Show this post" link, but only masochists do that. :P

Any of you maggots who have not heard of the Nightmare/Atmosfear series are sent to the Black Hole.

I recently discovered this game thanks to Spoony, and it looked so interesting that I had to get it. I played it with my family once recently, and we all had a wonderful time. It's quite fun, but difficult to win.

The gimmick is that it came with a VHS tape that you were supposed to play in your VCR as you played the game. The tape featured the host of the game, The Gatekeeper, who would occasionally pop in to cause special events to occur in the game, usually by interacting with the players, and usually screwing with them. The tape is about an hour long, and if nobody wins by the end of the tape, the Gatekeeper wins.

If you don't have a VCR anymore, the entire video is on Youtube, which is what I did. I just started the video on Youtube on my big screen TV, and me, my little sister, and my parents played the game. Even if you have no intention of playing it, watch the video anyway. The Gatekeeper is absolutely hilarious.

This game was really popular in the early 1990s, and several sequels and expansion packs were released. There have even been fan-made sequels! I only have the original, but I will probably get more of them down the line. Definitely worth playing at least once.

Ah, Batman! An excellent choice! The video was excellent as well. I remember the first time I played this game, the only games I was really familiar with were Mario and Sonic, so I kept trying to kill the enemies by jumping on their heads.

It's good to see you play a real classic. I can only assume that playing lesser games for a while could burn you out, so it's good to mix it up a bit. That Race America game and some of your other choices looked awful.
#195

From what I've played of it and what I've seen online, it seems like a pretty awesome game, kind of like Zelda 1 mixed with an action/platformer. It also is EXTREMELY difficult. I don't see how anyone could finish it without either a manual or a lot of hints. Or both.

It was also the direct inspiration for an indie game by the name of La-Mulana, which is also good, but possibly even HARDER. If you like Galious, give this one a try.

Off-Topic / Robotech: The Thread
12/26/2013, 10:07 PM
So a short time back, I was in my local Wal-Mart, and while looking at the video section, I stumbled across the newest DVD box set of Robotech, that classic anime adaptation that arguably planted the seeds of anime becoming big in America.

Ignoring the strangeness of a Wal-Mart carrying something somewhat niche, I immediately decided I wanted this for Christmas. I had heard a little bit about Robotech in the past, and so, being a fan of anime, I decided that this was the time to start watching. I was quite happy to receive this 20-Disc monster of a DVD box set (no Blu-Ray version, unfortunately), and so, I started watching it a day or so later, and today I have finished the first disc (the first 8 episodes).

And you know what? Despite being totally '80s, having stilted writing and acting, and lots of changes from the Japanese shows it was made from (apparently, Robotech is made up of three story arcs that were all created from separate-but-similar anime series and they just created a new storyline to fit it all together), I still think it's awesome!

Besides being a lot of fun to watch, it also has a unique historical significance. Watching it from the imagined perspective of a kid growing up in the mid '80s, it is quite unlike anything else that I can think of that was on at the time, especially when you consider that anime was almost completely unknown in the U.S. at the time.

What do you guys think of Robotech? Discuss all you like, but try not to put major spoilers in your posts. Remember, I haven't watched it all yet!

I've always wondered what things would be like if I had been born a girl, but the idea of being stuck somewhere in between...Even though I have no experience with that sort of thing, I know enough about people to know that it can't be fun in the slightest.

I appreciate that you trust us enough to share this info, Old Rover. Seeing someone deal with their issues as well as you is very inspiring to me, because I also am dealing with an issue of the brain, although it's most likely not as bad as what you go through.

You see, I have a disability called Ausperger's Syndrome (spelling might not be correct), a type of low-grade Autism. While in most respects I appear to be fairly normal, and do not suffer from most of the typical Autism symptoms, I am somewhat awkward in social situations, I have odd habits like wanting to be in motion when I get excited (rocking back and forth, walking around), and I am a bit spacey as well. I just don't think like most people do. Couple that with a bad temper as a child, and it led to me having a really rough childhood. I couldn't figure out what was expected of me. I threw a lot of fits because I didn't understand why I couldn't have my way all the time. I didn't understand how my actions affected others. Things got even worse as I grew older because more was expected of me in terms of maturity and I wasn't keeping up. I eventually just got labeled as a bad kid by a lot of adults, and was treated quite poorly by authority figures as a result. Even though I am finally starting to get things in order, it still isn't easy.
