@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Thanks to those who purchased games.

I just started playing this but how do you make the sidearms shoot and do the charge weapon? All they do is sit there for me unless I hit the other button then they go out towards the enemy.

I just finally played through Download 2 and am trying to figure out which one I like better. Overall I think the graphics, music, and bosses slightly better in Download 2. I also like cycling through the different weapons during the stages in Download 2. The first Download is more difficult, faster action and I like the life bar system. Both are fun games worth a play especially for shooter fans.

Image Fight 2 came up in the Boss battle thread. I think it's a great game that isn't too difficult when you learn how to take down the bosses. The stages can be tough but a little memorization can get anyone through. I thought this may be of help to some that get stuck and frustrated on a certain boss. I know I also use the search feature so maybe this can help someone down the road who is searching this game. This isn't overly detailed but should help in your efforts to beat them game if your willing to put some time in:

Image Fight 2 Boss Strategy
Weapons – Your weapon choice makes a huge difference in your success. Unfortunately to switch main weapons you will need to take a direct front shot to the one you have to release it. Be careful, a hit to the side or back will kill you. If there is an easier way to grab a weapon let me know!

Stage 1
– He has three forms of attack. Make sure you have 3 orange pods. Start on the upper right hand of the screen and have your pods shoot towards him. He will start off going left so stay still till he comes back your way, after he spits his wave beams at you sneak by to the other side and keep shooting. This should take care of his first form. Then, move directly in the center of the screen at the bottom and stay put, he will move back and forth but won't hit you if you are in the center. This will bring you to his 3rd attack, blue lasers. Just stay moving in the opposite direction he moves until defeated.

Stage 2 – This Boss has a nice cheap spot. Just move to the top of the screen and make sure your side-pod comes in direct contact with his side just above the lower/center red line that shoots out a laser. For extra speedy defeat use an Ave 3 Pad, set button 3 to select and turn the turbo on (make sure you turn off again after the battle).

Stage 3 – Pick up the barrier weapon towards the end of the stage. Be careful not to take a hit from behind. Just go to the brain and have the barrier on it for a quick death.

Stage 4
– Have 3 Blue Pods. Start in the middle of the top of screen. This one is pretty self-explanatory.  When he raises shoot the rock until it breaks free and the enemy pops out. He shoots circular bullet patterns. Avoid and shoot. Pretty standard stuff here and should be easy to learn.

Stage 5 – You need the blue gas? Wavy deal weapon (last one you can pick up on this stage). Start in the upper right of the screen. The Boss gets in a circle barrier that opens and closes. Go inside (very quick) when it opens and get out. It takes 3-4 well timed tries to defeat him. Remember he will follow you, try to lead him to the upper right corner then go down when he opens up for the shot.

Stage 6 – This Boss has a few attacks. I suggest having 3 blue pods. Start about halfway up your screen on the right side. He will throw rocks behind you and dash towards you. When he comes back up it opens up and the enemy shoots. Shoot him until he gets too low then get above him, get your back pod on his center to work on his destruction. When he gets close to the top of the screen move back to the side where you started. It should take 2 times.

Stage 7 – This Boss can be a bitch, basically a silver rock thingy. Shoot him right away, stay in the center, hold back on the D-Pad and stay low on the screen. He will open up and shoot smaller silver rock things at you, stay still or you will die. Keep shooting, when he reforms stop shooting and lead him to the upper right, all the way to the top of the screen then get below him and shoot and stay low and hold that d-pad back. It will take multiple tries. This Boss probably took the most work to learn the pattern.

Stage 8 – This one is easy (if you have the right weapon). You need the last weapon pick up on the stage. It is a single shot so it seems like it sucks but it doesn't. It will take the Boss down in one shot. YOU NEED TO HOLD ONTO THIS WEAPON THE REST OF THE WAY if you want easy victories!!

Stage 9 – If you have the same weapon on this boss he will go down in one shot also. You need to avoid the lasers that come from the side long enough to get a clean shot at the center. Try to stay below the boss but above the lasers and move back and forth until you get a clean shot. If you don't have this weapon the blue/wavy deal that can be picked up last weapon on this stage will do it. It's just harder and takes longer.

Stage 10 – You're finally here, and it's the easiest boss in the game! If you have the weapon from stage 8 it is very easy. Two green worms come from each side. They will take one shot each. Then you fight a flower that also takes one shot. If you don't have this weapon just watch the flower, it sends a black warp ball out. Just move to the opposite side. After his center laser beam goes move in the middle and shoot. Repeat until dead.

Congrats, you beat the game!

After you beat the game, you can go in the configuration and go to "OMAKE" where you can change ships to the R-9 or GENSAN. If you don't want to play again right after you beat it, since there is a save feature, go back, continue from stage 10, and beat it then go change your ship.

I got this in a bundle but not much of a platformer fan so I figure someone else can get more out of it. I will draw a name next Wed 1/23. Free Shipping to the US and Canada. Outside of there if you could chip in a few bucks that would be swell. Game has the original case but no manual, sorry. I'm sure I have an extra Hucard sleave laying around also?

What a fun little game.  :P

I got this in a bundle and thought it I would be a play for 5 minutes then store away in the collection to collect dust, but I sat there for probaby 1:30 hours and made it to about level 30. Has anyone on here made it through all 99 levels? If anyone has does it get absurdly dificult later on? I think I'm going to try to chip away at beating the game we'll see how my patience goes.

Pretty fun for a puzzler game, a good one if you can get it cheap! Anyone else enjoy this game?

I was surprised I didn't find much info on a search on this site. Anyways, I have been playing Steam Hearts the past week. Most of what I heard is that it is just a decent shooter with bad Hentai pervert stuff in the cutscenes. I love shooters and thought this expensive title would be a good one to play on my Christmas break.

I think the game is great. There is a ton of action, basically nonstop. The game has a good length and the action is fun all the way through (No long dead zones of mindless blasting ala Blazing Lazers or Spriggan). The game is also fairly difficult to beat, especially with one credit since you only have 1 life so you will be playing and doing a fair amount of memorization plus some good reflexes to conquer it. The last Boss and stage 4 Boss are  particularly tough. The graphics are also pretty good, nothing spectacular but the Bosses are nice and the colors are easy on the eyes even when there isn't a ton of detail. I also think the soundtrack is great, especially the techno sounding tracks on stages 3 and 5.

Good graphics, great sound, tons of action and a nice challenge. What else do you need in a old school shooter? For me there are still some better shooters on the Engine but this one is in my top 10.

Just picked this game up. I do remember this one in the arcades but was never a arcade hound so never played it much. I have never played a home console version until yesterday when I tried the PC Engine/Turbo Version. Couple Questions for those who have played it:

1.) The controls are super funky even though I have an Ave 3 Pad. I know it will get easier with practice but is it still awkward even when you get the hang of it? My satelight gets out of position and I have a tough time getting it back in front of me then take a bunch of hits trying to get it in line.

2.) When you get the controls down is it a very difficult game to clear? I quickly got to stage 5 but seems like this may be one tough game unless it's just seeming that way for now. Stage 5 Boss (centipede thing) destroyed me.

I had high hopes but after a couple hours play I think it's OK but hoping it gets better.

Picked this game up and have been playing the last few days. Once you get the controls and weapon system it seems pretty easy to get to the final stage. Then you get those speedy as hell blue stars or whatever they are and I just can't seem to dodge them yet. Anyone have some tips on what to do with these things? There has to be some pattern I'm not thinking of otherwise maybe you just get lucky once in a while and dodge enough of them to clear the game? Any advice from those who have beat this one?

Don't know why but took the time to clear King of Casino. Figured someone may want this last password I had to get close to the 10 million needed so they can see the credits. Easiest way is to max your bets on roulette on the 0 and 00. Casino the Apple has $20,000 bet Roulette tables.

Been playing Rayxanber 2 for the past week or so. I think it's a pretty fun shooter, good graphics, I like the tunes quite a bit. The game is known as one of, if not the toughest shooter on the PC Engine, and so far it's living up to the reputation. The second level is pretty difficult for a second level but afther some plays getting to the fourth level isn't too bad. Once you get to the fourth stage however things get extremmly difficult and annoying. I have got to the boss but usually don't make it. The enemies are faster than the ship and there is a major slowdown that affects your turbo fire and you have to manual fire. I've read a few reviews and seen people say they didn't get past the 4th level without magic engine and save states, which I'm not interested in.

Question, has anyone beat the 4th stage let alone the game without cheats? I know there is a longplay on youtube but I'm pretty sure it's magic engine and save states. Gonna keep playing, hope to beat the game (I like to beat all my shooters, except Raiden because it sucks)

Seems this game could have been a classic top knotch shooter if you didn't have check points when you die or maybe a shield here and there. I don't mind a hard game but this one loses some point for how hard it is.

Any other opinions on this game??

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Raiden...

Seriously how is this game considered a classic? It blows, you control this slow piece of shit with no speed control and you have some of the least inspiring weapons in shooter history while flying over mostly generic backgrouds. I mean the bullet hell would be fine if your ship wasn't so slow, maybe that would have made the game too easy?

A question for the Raiden fans out there, were the other ports on other systems and the Arcade game have the ship this slow or is it something the Turbo/Engine just didn't get right? As a big shooter fan I was looking forward to playing this one finally and it was a huge letdown. Am I missing something here?

Hey

I've started this game, I'm a few hours in, at the city lost in time or whatever it is. Anyway I have a question about the battle system. The game is fun so far but the battles are way too often, it's like every 3 steps and there is another enemy. It's to the point of not being fun. Do the battles lessen in frequency as you go or is this what I have to expect the whole way? Anything like in Dragon Slayer where you get the glasses {?} that allow you to see your enemies later on?

Looking to buy a couple standard 2 button with turbo PC Engine controllers. Any of them will do but I'll pay extra for the white Duo-R one if you have it. If anyone has one or two in good working condition you can sell let me know how much. Thought I'd try here before I went to ebay.

OK, since the world cup is going on and I like Soccer I have been playing this game alot. Problem is it's tough as hell to score or at least since I can't read Japenese I'm sure I'm missing something in the manual that explains it. The gameplay is actually pretty fun but it's getting frustrating and I've only been able to win 1 game in about 20 or more trys. I know it's not a game most people have or play but figured it couldn't hurt to ask here in case someone knows if there is any trick to scoring or other tips.

Sherlock Holmes 2 - Complete
Bomberman 93 - Hucard only
Formation Soccer on J Leauge {PC Engine} complete
SplatterHouse - Hucard only
Dungeon Explorer - Hucard only
Bonk's Adventure - Hucard only or also have one Complete with Box

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Ys 3
02/04/2010, 03:28 PM
Hi, after 18 years I finally made it through book 1 and 2, lol. Anyway, I now want to pick up Ys 3 and was wondering peoples opinions of it. I know you actually yield a sword and it's more side scolling but how else does it compare? I was close to breaking stuff while getting lost in Solomine Shrine, very rewarding when you finally figure it out but man I can get a short temper getting lost in mazes. Does book 3 have as complex mazes? Any other differances? Just curious, I'm going to pick it up and try it anyway but thought this would be a good place to get opinions on the game.

Hey guys, I've been reading alot on this board about laser problems with their duos. Currently my duo will play some CD games if turned upside down, however it still can freeze often and the games that play seem to be ones with probably less information on them {John Madden - Riot Zone} and some games I get the read disk error {Ys - Lords of Thunder}. I've owned this duo since Christmas 92 - Manufacture date says Sept 92 and the games are in great shape so I know it's not the games. Wondering if anyone that understands these things better than I can give their thoughts on if I need to outright replace the laser or if it probaly just needs an adjustment? Thanks...
