RIP to BT Garner of MindRec.com... BT passed away early 2023 from health problems. He was one of the top PCE homebrew developers and founder of the OG Turbo List, then PCECP.com. Condolences to family and friends.

I snip the caps with some small and very sharp hobby side cutters right above the bottom ring at the base of the cap. What's left is the bottom ring that lifts off and leaves just the leg stub and pad which I de-solder after cleaning the PCB and electrolytic shit that leaked out Takes 2 or 3 snips and it's very quick and safe.  I haven't lifted a single pad since I started  doing it like this and can de-cap a board very quickly.

I regretted buying my first house and my motorcycle back in the day but in the end I sold the house for a better house and sold the bike for candy cabs and couldn't be happier now

Every NEC system is worth getting and trying out at some point. Trying all the funky console revisions and accessories is half the fun of being an NEC fan

Quote from: guest on 07/25/2017, 12:11 PMPretty good price, debated all morning! I had to pass since he doesn't say whether or not it's recapped or even works properly. Hope someone here gets it, though.

Thanks for posting this regardless and making me contemplate dropping $300 on a glorified Laserdisc player :)
Be glad you didn't.
there's like 5 games worth playing on the LA between sega and turbob pac units.

it's a crappy LD player.
any other sega CD hardware is better.
any other PCE-CD hardware is better.

plus, mods are weird and cumbersome and not as effective as they are on other systems.

seriously, just get a good LD player and the respective CD hardware for the systems
RGB modding the LA was simple and the picture quality is absolutely fantastic. It's an awesome system. I watch LDs on mine all the time and they look good enough to me. Most LD players that have better quality are also expensive.

Surprised he doesn't have doubles of "Black Hole Assault"

Quote from: blueraven on 07/18/2017, 01:56 AMHELL YEAH PUNK.

OK NEW CHALLENGE.

Since everyone has just been talking about how they really want to play the Turbo/PCE... And there is even a thread where we TRIED to beat all of the games in a year, (thanks btw Bardoly?)

WE SHOULD START BEATING SOME FUCKING GAMES
Well beating these games we collect should be everyone's goal on this forum and in this hobby in general!

Awesome review! I love this game and glad to see it getting some attention. It's very fun, unique and challenging. Definitely one of the best puzzle games on the system

I actually bought some bootleg Ninjago minifigures for my kids. They would take them places and loose them so I was like fuck it and bought the knock off set. You can get a set of 8 for $10 shipped. They look ok but my kids realized they were different right off the bat.
Oh and LOL at the new MC repros. I got flamed on the FB groups for calling out the hu card bootleggers because people thought they were better or somehow more justified to make them for "the community" and now look at them all working together LMFAO
Sad state for the PC Engine scene 2017, bootlegs were the worst thing to happen to our little world

I have the PC and it's cool as heck but there's just not enough games I'm interested to play it a lot. I bring it out to conventions and game meet ups though so it gets loved. The marty is very cool looking but has even less games that work on it. It's still cool and fun to have though and I love the port of Tatsujin O

Quote from: elmer on 12/18/2016, 12:49 PMEducate people about what?

I don't think that this is going to be a popular sentiment, but I'm having a hard-time in maintaining my "outrage" in the face of the events here at PCEngineFX in the last year.

The general-consensus here seems to be that ignoring copyright and making personal copies of games by burning CDs or using a Turbo Everdrive is OK.

But, to keep the forum "legally clean", we're not supposed to put links to free digital downloads.

OTOH, we've now got a thread where "respected" forum members are charging money for unlicensed bootleg copies of HuCard games (breaking the same copyright law) and it's OK to put links to their site and ordering info, and people here seem to love them.

So the forum now seems to approve of bootlegged game production for money.

I understand that there is historical reason to dislike Tobias and PCEWorks (and recent-history at that with his release of translations), but IMHO, we've destroyed our standing to complain too-much about him by buying-and-selling-off old-stock of his CDs on this very forum.

We could still hold our heads up high when BlueBMW bought up Tobias's "flawed" Sapphire discs and gave them away for free ... but last year's selling ("to recoup costs") of the CDs showed that these days we're just complaining about the price, and not the bootlegging itself.

So, if the main complaint that's left is that Tobias charges more than people here think is fair for his "product", and that he's an absolute ass that has outright lied and tried to decieve people, and that he doesn't respect the wishes of translators ...

... then I suspect that it might be hard to find a YouTube "personality" to take up arms against him for a crusade that seems more "personal" than "moral-high-ground".

And, it's going to be hard to "educate fellow video game enthusiasts" as to why they should avoid clearly-marked bootlegged games, when we're all sitting there with cheap copies of his earlier CDs ... we'd just look like hypocrites.
Nailed it. These issues have really turned me away from the NEC groups here and on FB. I just don't get how some people are deemed ok to bootleg while others are not and people get straight up flamed and shamed on here and facebook groups for picking the wrong bootleggers to support. It's all the same. Nobody has the right to reproduce any of this stuff more so than anyone else

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to get through a RPG with google translate but a game with a menu and shops it works good enough to figure out if you are buying a sword or a potion etc
#32
Have you tried playing on a LCD monitor and using google translate on your phone? It works well for a lot of games

There are too many people desperate for this game, you will never see it offered up for sale for an affordable price. The only way you will be able to buy this game is to negotiate with someone offering it up for a crazy price or have a connection with another collector who is getting out of the hobby.

District 9 is incredible. It had a 30mil budget and looks fantastic still. Compare that to the first new transformers movie which had a 149mil budget and looks dated already. They did such an awesome job of blending 3d with live action. Most new movies are just heavily filtered with a gray/blue palette and look corny. District 9 has a dirty gritty look with lots of bright natural light and looks amazing

Been on a sci-fi/ kaiju kick. Getting pretty hyped up over Shin Godzilla next week. Watched Pacific Rim and District 9 last night. They both have really held up well and look better than almost all other recent movies in the genre since then.
Anyone else got Shin Godzilla playing locally? Very excited. This is my first real Japanese Godzilla movie in a theater

Quote from: NightWolve on 09/20/2016, 07:12 PMWell, Corey has been hurt and put out a tear-felt FB video that was since deleted after all that criticism he received for that performance I linked earlier... Can't decide, pat him on the back or laugh at him ??
All of his parties and PR stunts, you just can't take him seriously at all (not like anyone does anyways). It's so bad.... but at the end of the day he's rich and surrounded by hot trashy women and we are probably not

The multi out is definitely the way to go. The DIN plug isn't a very tight connection and it is a pain to attach. Get the multi out and cut a whole with a dremel then use a file to square it off. You can make a template if that helps

I finished Maison Ikkoku and was having a hard time finding something to follow up that amazing series with. Watched most of Super Dimension Century Orguss but started to feel like a chore. Just got really boring but I need to finish it since I'm almost done. Wife wanted something to watch with me so we started Macross Frontier but she kept falling asleep. Then she wanted to switch to Inu Yasha but man thats just too long at almost 200 episodes for the first series!
Finally started Gurren Lagann and think that will be the one we stick with, whether she falls asleep or not on me (I work late so our sleep schedules kind of suck) because it's so fun. I'm just gonna binge watch this all week. Gotta love Gainax!
