Quote from: seieienbu on 05/06/2018, 06:13 PMI've only beaten Legendary Axe a couple of times.  Normally when I get to the doors section I game over and get weak and then give up.  Nice run through.
You can see in that run that I actually lose a couple of lives on corridor "L". This is straight up the most unfair section of the whole game and is enough to knock the game down a point, I mean there are plenty of cheap traps in the game but you can avoid them easily if you're careful, not there though. But it's still a very solid game nonetheless.

I played Legendary Axe and finally beat it with 1 credit today! Plus I was recording it so right into youtube it goes.

Quote from: ccovell on 05/02/2018, 06:28 PMThis looks pretty cool.  Might prove useful for making simple CD compilations, etc.
I did this specifically to have something more transparent and simple to take a peek into than isolink (since I'm the #1 hater of HuC 'round these parts :v), but the "simple" part hurts since I'm planning to do fully fledged games with it

Quote from: seieienbu on 05/03/2018, 11:34 PMOkay, that's a much better list of games than I was expecting.  I'm very happy that there's no Fatal Fury 1 (or other first games that nobody in their right mind wants to play) on there.  Yeah, it's missing a few of my favorites but overall it's a solid list of games.
So I'm the only one who genuinely likes Fatal Fury 1?
It's not that bad... but you got to give people a discount since there's tons of better fighters on the NeoGeo.

I just now realized that there's no Crystalis :'( why doesn't SNK show some love for their pre Neo games. I would love to have some Victory Road or Guerrilla War arcade games on that.

This body wash ad needs to be played in the big screen at any nerdy event, 24/7.

If it isn't that SNK should pretend this never happened and only come back when they successfully copy that gorgeous design.

https://github.com/AleffCorrea/DiscMaker

I just did a batch file that merges all the binary data you want (ie tile graphics, audio samples, etc.) into a single ISO file which is CDROM compliant (it automatically pads the file to 150 frames).

Not only it pads the whole file, but also individual binaries so they are 2048 byte (frame) aligned. This, of course, is done to not overcomplicate loading data from the disc to VRAM/SYSCARD RAM and to make the padding process for your data automatic. This also spits out an .asm file containing constant defines for what the sector index of your inputted data files are, and how many bytes and sectors it occupies on the disc.

The only downside to this batch file is that you need to run this first before compiling your game (because of the index asm file), and then to copy it manually with copy /b (or with this tool itself if you don't mind to see the index asm file getting overwritten with nonsense, but since you won't need it after compiling your overlays it might not be an issue for you). Also, this doesn't add the sector 0 IPL file to the ISO, you're expected to add it yourself, just like the game overlays. The first parameter of the batch file is a sector offset so you have the indexes from the asm file properly aligned.

Anyway, no one will use this since everyone uses HuC and the isolink thingy, but I thought I'd share anyway. Hope it's going to be useful to someone aside from myself.

Quote from: geise on 04/25/2018, 01:22 PMLOL! So far I'm the only one that voted Splash Lake.
To be quite honest Splash Lake is a game I've wanted to try out for a while, but it feels like later stages would be boring with 1P only. Why isn't there a PCE emulator with online play yet?

No way manufacturing costs were larger than $15 per disc in 1989 (and the $15 is a very conservative guess!), discs always were more cheaper than PCBs with ROMs and plastic in it. The price difference in early TGX16 CD games can probably be explained more by operational costs (expensive as hell devkits, having to hire someone to master audio tracks into a DAT tape for manufacturing, difficulties in debugging and programming, more resources spent on the game overall). Remember that even the first game for the PCECD was developed with a borrowed Hu7CD system (Alfa System went to Sapporo to develop Fighting Street as Hudson was the only one with the CD dev system for obvious reasons).

And even if it was very expensive early on, it probably dropped in price dramatically during the early 90's.

Quote from: Flare65 on 04/16/2018, 03:15 PMYeah, the hacks and home brew scene is getting out of hand.  I saw that game play and it was utter trash.  Like shovelware Atari 2600 crap.  That was one of the weirdest home brews that I've seen so I took a photo of it.
It's kinda sad since the guy who made that game is clearly talented, but instead of directing his efforts into cool games he does those one off shitty games based on crappy memes from Nintendo Age or Swedish Erotica ports.

I mean, it's his time and effort so he chooses what he wants to do but his output is cringy as hell.

Reminds me of how I would post "Obey PCE" every single day on the Assemblergames chatbox just for the heck of it back then, yet no Sega fan ever did a tenth of what NW is doing here to anyone associated with the "head Dildo" (lmao). And trust me almost all of the mods there are die hard Mega Drive fans!

General Gaming / Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter
04/15/2018, 01:54 AM
Quote from: TR0N on 04/15/2018, 01:41 AMUpdate now sega is doing a hd version of shenmue 1&2.This was in talks for awhile now and even hinted,so it's not a surprise.
Can't wait to play Autistic Martial Artist Simulator 1 and 2 again. Especially since I bought merchandise.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 08/24/2017, 07:01 PMI hate almost all new games but I do play new installments of old series. Do I actually have the patience to play a *real* Shenmue 3? One with controlls *barely* better than Resident Evil? I don't know. Probably not. Do all the kick starters? Seems doubtful. It seems doubtful that a new generation of kids will emerge, in love with shitty controlling games that were once state of the art but now look 15 years out of date because everything from Japan does now.
You know you got me thinking, that's exactly why I have current gen consoles in the first place. Modern game design is nice and all but I feel like they homogenize a lot of unique traits those games could have. I like japanese games being japanese games, clunky and experimental, a good amount with medium to low budgets, it's nice to have variety as in PS1/SAT onwards until PS3/360. Not all games need to be triple A smash hit like.

But that's just me and it seems very, VERY hard in this era to sell to a mainstream audience an imperfect game or something that doesn't take itself seriously and isn't afraid of being goofy and gameish. It seems like the Yakuza series, for example, gets discovered as a hidden gem obscure series by the press and gamers in every single western release. There's praise for a month then everyone forgets about it again.

And let's be honest here, Shenmue 3 will be just as goofy as its predecessors, everyone who faked excitement on E3 when the words "Shenmue 3" appeared (but didn't recognize the iconic theme bgm in the first few seconds of the video lmao!) will at best buy it, play for a week or two and return it for gamestop credit. I don't see the momentum for a Shenmue 4 or significant fanbase growth, imo.

Edit: also, project stalled due to:

A: trying to find a good scheme to make data overlays since PCEAS complains whenever I add something larger than 32k instead of just spilling over the data to other 8kb banks
B: my keyboard's space bar is busted (again!)

PC/Console/Mobile Ports / Re: NES Maker
04/13/2018, 02:17 PM
I like that NES project but a PCE port would makes me kinda worried about people just giving up on the complexity of HuC in general, let alone asm. Not that I want elitism in homebrew games but I just don't want our homebrew scene to be more limited than it already is.

Far Cry 5 is a nice game but out of the forums domain which might not capture the imagination of the forum.

There's a way to put a SATA adapter into the PS2 broadband adapter isn't it? I recall reading about it somewhere.

Quote from: soop on 04/12/2018, 11:13 AMerr, complete thread hijack, but I don't suppose you've ever worked on a PS2 and had the controller port ribbon cable screw up?  For some reason, mine came loose and will not for the love of god remain back in place.  It's like some magical, intangible part has gone missing between the ribbon and the clip.  I've ordered some replacement cables, just in case that helps, but f*ck knows what happened.
The intangible part between the ribbon and the clip is the machine used to plug 1000 ribbons a second.

Soop, aren't the connectors on the other side of the board alongside the laser assembly? Doesn't make sense to place it underneath the board since you'll usually need a disc spinning to test the cd reader.

Quote from: PukeSter on 04/11/2018, 01:09 PMI love Dynasty Wars, just a shame no co-op or difficulty options. I like the chip music too, and I love how despite a lack of parallax, the backgrounds are very lengthy and don't repeat tiles (like what Renny Blaster and those cutscenes in Ys IV).

Unrelated but can Turbo be added to Street Fighter 2 champion edition? If not the extra moves (air hurricane kick is awesome), at least adjustable speed?
I think they removed coop mainly due to the already problematic sprite dropoff issues with 1 controllable character. Which is too bad.
