@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

4/10 this movie sucks! Which is too bad because I remembered it being a lot more better. The plot is pointless and doesn't really go anywhere (it's basically "bronson gets mad and starts shooting muggers in random situations"), and the abysmal ending aggravates it. The soundtrack sucks. Bronson can't act. The movie is exploitative and it carries its pro-vigilante message in a very forced, heavy handed way. What a waste of time.

It's obvious that JT is using his powers to enhance the arcade feel on those data east games...

I'm glad that he isn't bitter about his time at TTi anymore.

This is still a very good action movie and a big contrast in regards to its brainless sequels. Not much I can say without repeating what everyone knows already about this movie.

Quote from: Psycho Punch on 12/18/2017, 09:40 AMI always found the Jap rule to be dumb. A word doesn't necessarily have only one meaning even if one of those meanings is very offensive. Now, the english language's word (pardon me for writing it) nigger is very strong and racially charged but that's mostly because it doesn't see much use elsewhere outside of a slur meant to offend, when in Portuguese the words "negro" (lit. dark) and "preto" (lit. black) can be used as a racial slur, but since "preto" is also the only word for "black" it doesn't carry that much weight and no one freaks out if you say "Pintei meu carro de preto" or something like that, much like "negro" which is ALSO used as a neutral term for "african descent" (ie.: you are a n--r ≠ você é negro).

Context is everything. It's quite obvious that the "JAP" in JAPJAC isn't meant to convey the same meaning as the phrase "bomb the japs" or something like that. I know that nowadays no one abbreviates Japan like that (usually "JP" or "JPN" is used) but faking outrage for something clearly not meant to be malicious doesn't get us anywhere.

Eh, that's some shaky reasoning.

That would mean I could register the name niggernagger and be like "what, its cool, its only racist if I mean it".

Jap was used in the same manner as the n-word, and it's a bit doofy to use it.   In what context was Jap used in a non-derogatory way?   There is a reason games put JPN if it's only got room for 3 letters like in Baseball and shit.

lol imagine if there was a game where its like JAP and NIG and youre like oh shit I'm playing Japan vs. Africa but it's ok they didn't mean anything by it.

This place by my house had this sign that said JAP MAPLES 50$, and its like guys, can you really not fit an A and an N?

fuck.
Yeah, I guess I'm rationalizing my biases too much. You're right.

God damn that's hard! I finally understood my japanese friends frustration with any european languages when I finally started learning japanese.

Not that I have progressed too much, only thing I got from it was being able to read english stuff in katakana and some really basic grammar points. I have Remembering the Kanji, Japanese for Everyone (Nagara/Gakken), A Dict. of Basic Japanese Grammar (the yellow book) plus Reading Real Japanese (a book that I bought to motivate me to study until I could read the stories written). I'm living proof that buying books does not equal learning them lol.

Wasn't that a prank or something? I remember seeing that at some point here at pcefx. Packaging INDIVIDUAL games on SD Cards one million times larger is such a stupid idea that maybe my mind filed this memory under "pranks and hoaxes" to save me from being traumatized for life.

Hey, what did you do with the CDROM drive gears? Did you just clean it off or did you apply any lubricant later?

I'm playing Shadow of the Beast, it's the most dumb, poorly designed europlatformer ever but I still keep coming back for it for some reason.
#210
Thanks BT, this isn't the sort of game I was searching for but it will do, I really want to play something new and exciting and that RPG game fits the bill. I'm glad it's gaijin-friendly.

That about exploiting the field and the AI I figured out. Graphics are well done and remind me of how dumb people think Final Zone Zenki Axis on the ol' Mega Drive is unfeasible on the TGX just because of how Final Zone II was done. Too bad Vasteel's mech battles are so broken to the point of making the game a chore to play overall. Not just the AI but the way everything is so big too, making stuff too easy or almost impossible (factory cores). I'm not really going to continue playing this game now that I know that the AI is like that for the whole game.

Sounds like a Human Entertainment game all right, good concept, poor execution.

Quote from: dshadoff on 12/17/2017, 04:15 PMI have one of these which I would be interested in selling in late January (will be too busy until then).

875Euros is a lot of dough - what would be more reasonable (i.e. quick sale) ?
I don't know Dave, 1000 dollars seems like way too much, I feel like maybe $200~300 is a fair price for what this is but it's a tough sale with the Turbo Everdrive selling for $85. There's not many prospective buyers for just playing backups with that.
#214
875 euros? Only if you're super serious about preserving videogame history or if you're from the other side of the spectrum.
#215
Anyone here played Vasteel? I'm trying to figure out a good strategy for destroying factory cores, I usually have to spend a lot of units trying to chip away it's health, it's almost impossible.

Also, does the difficulty increases during the single player campaign? I'm playing with the red rebel guy and I've beaten the first level and the ice planet side mission, and even with everything stacked against me on the ice level it was still very easy to beat the enemy into submission (except for capturing the factory as I mentioned before). It starts getting boring when you're offered no challenge from the enemy.

Quote from: guest on 12/15/2017, 02:30 AMI wonder what's the deal with ashrion's obsession about feces? Rarely you see a post written by him not containing the "shit" word.
I don't know but I think we all agree that "Sega cd is only a big shit". :P
#218
JAPJAC is a good user?

I find those hidden shooters to be fun. I always wonder if the programmer+artist done an elaborate easter egg for fun, a secret pitch using another game's development time, or just a disgruntled programmer mad about having to work at yet another boobie avg (I don't think that's the case for any hidden shooters on the PCE but it's funny to imagine a super excited programmer trying to convince his bosses to make a shooter after too many rounds of Star Force... "NO HIROSHI WE'RE STICKING TO THE PLAN, SUPER MAHJONG SOAP SPA III PLUS CD IS A GO").
#219
They really aren't all that great and the sole reason why they get attention is because they're unreleased. Off The Wall was dumped with no fanfare and was forgotten by 99% of PC Engine owners one week after its release, those Uni Post and Tengen games wouldn't be any different.

Quote from: PukeSter on 12/09/2017, 04:03 PMLooks absolutely fantastic! It's perfect considering I don't have a CD console (I play all that stuff on the laptop). I'll have to pick one up down the road if the price is a bit cheaper, and sell the everdrive.

Anyone know if this thing plays Altered Beast?
Everything can play Altered Beast:
The ultra rare second revision of the game that works on every system card has been dumped.

"What was the main reason for the creation of ______?"

I ask myself that question every time the topic comes up and that's exactly why I'll never put one cent on them.

Quote from: TDIRunner on 12/06/2017, 09:55 AMI see a few people already mentioned Vandal Hearst which I also highly recommend.  I still haven't played the sequels which I've always wanted to (finally picked up VH2 about a year ago).

Another game I will mention that I rarely hear about is Felony 11-79.  It's a driving game where you are running from the cops on a time limit.  It was unique when it was new because it was sort of "open world" in that you could go wherever you wanted while you were trying to escape.  Although the strict time limit prevented you from doing any time of exploring.  Unfortunately, it's one of those games that makes up for it's short length by being extremely difficult.
Is it as good as Driver though?
I saw the videos for that game and it looked hilarious, I'll check it out soon.
#224
There's so many great games and B-side gems that I can't understand how someone would dislike the PS1 except for sega/nintendo fanboyism. Or maybe just a general dislike for early 3D graphics, I don't know.

Quote from: CrackTiger on 11/29/2017, 11:52 AMI bought Loom when it came out, because it is a CD game. I couldn't believe how little they touched up/improved over the 16 color computer version and it was very buggy, randomly glitching, crashing and losing game saves. I exchanged it as defective for Air Zonk and didn't regret it.
I heard it was a mix of the 16 and 256 color versions of the game. Didn't knew it was that buggy, who programmed it? Was it a Hudson Soft port?

Nothing really, just want to tell how surprised I am to learn that there's a 16GB flash PS3, when 90% of the games just dump the entire disc to the HDD to be playable.
#230
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 11/28/2017, 04:33 PMI think that would get more people playing the game.

OK, It would get at least one more person playing the game.
Add +1 person playing the game (and wanting to buy a turbo everdrive)

Well you'll have to contact the creator of the device then. Is it driven by a MCU? Feels overkill for PCE and other retro consoles.

Quote from: DragonmasterDan on 11/06/2017, 04:25 PMThis is more of a general question of "Where on Earth did they find the people who drew this video game covers in America and who thought these were good ideas for box art?". I suspect people in charge of packaging at a bunch of Video Game publishers said things like "Hey, my son made a great art project. It's on the fridge. I bet he could draw a guy exploring a dungeon" but we'll never know if they simply found the most inept professional illustrators around, or it was the work of family and friends of those in charge.

Reminds me of my old neighborhood, people were getting sick of idiots spray painting ugly gang tags so they hired actual graffiti artists to do gorgeous murals on their walls. I guess they kinda "respect" those since no gang tags ever appeared again.

Yay for no stupid regulations telling you what you can and cannot do with your own land.
