Messages - Psycho Punch

I'd help you but I think you mean the original CD unit, right? The Turbo Duo has the jumper connectors clearly labeled on the board's silk screen.

Quote from: NightWolve on 04/11/2018, 12:31 PMPlease, you wouldn't have given a rat's ass about it enough to change your signature had you thought it was somebody else originally, keeping it around now is a saving face "whatevers, durrr, still think it's stupid."
That's not true at all and deep down you know it. I'll just stop interacting with you for once to stop giving you fuel. Thanks for your time! indeed, abusive moderation is forever.

The name of the game is 01:Ultima:01-01, duh. The best Ultima game.

Quote from: Psycho Punch on 03/30/2018, 10:21 PMIt's an unfinished site with scans of turbografx related magazines and a chatbox that coexists with PCEFX. If you want to believe in NW's claims that Nulltard is a mere "forums thief" that wants to get a portion of the already tiny PCEFX userbase to defect to his site that gives no returns to him and will probably never make back a single month of hosting costs, that's ok. I mean, look at the legions of PCEFX users that left for Du'o-phile!

Coming up next: Why putting an apostrophe in "Ys" is complete evil and a personal attack at someone, somewhere. (how dare Hudson put one in Y''s 4's promotional material)
As usual, a DildoPhiler will give a speech on the greatness of DildoPhile.com when under attack, then attack the opponent or anyone teasing/making fun of it, and in this case, his signature was changed due to discovery of said Ys word filter,  "RAWRR, I love Y''''s!", and before that, I was PM'ed about the Ys filter by someone else since it was just discovered, and why was I sent the message, like Punch, I was assigned credit for it.

Maybe get over yourself instead of waiting for opportunities to show your disagreements/oppositions with me at every turn.

Did I really need to clarify the time span, due to the RECENT mocking after the Ys word filter was discovered ?
I like how you omitted my admission of error in that same thread about who made the filter. Why have I kept the signature after that?

A- Because I thought the filter was amusing regardless of author
B- I HAET NITEWOLVE HURR

I do hate you right now but that's only because you keep making childish attacks on me every single time. I was like a week or two without even mentioning you in posts, let alone "attack" you. Cut it out already.

edit for clarity.

Quote from: NecroPhile on 04/10/2018, 11:50 AMThe apostrophe ain't worth worrying about.  Even some official stuff has it wrong, like PCE Ys IV's disc or SMS Ys.

Plus, it's fun to mock people when they get it wrong.
I'd agree.  You could almost say it is a WISE decision to just drop the filter.  8)
Now you're just asking for trouble.
#56
Hold on, does the PCE port uses the full 512 horizontal resolution instead of the more sensible 256?

Well, it was a matter of adjusting laser power. I messed with the laser pot and now everything works well (except for the last track laser jam duos are known for). Even Gulliver Boy worked flawlessly streaming its FMV.

While it's a relief it's also a "oh no" moment since I had to increase laser power. Better buy another laser just in case. You might argue that I shouldn't be running cdrs in the first place but I need to test my homebrew builds too :P

Thanks for the help ^^

Quote from: NecroPhile on 04/09/2018, 03:05 PMStandard things apply: recap, clean board of any cap juice, check for damaged traces and open vias, tune pots, and then a new laser if everything else fails.
This was worked on before by a forum member (Keith?) but I don't know who specifically because I bought it "second-hand" from another forums member (which I don't remember too -- sorry!).

Quote from: Keith Courage on 04/09/2018, 10:43 PMthis might be an odd question but is your DUO set up near any other game consoles? If so, move it away from them and see what happens. Also try unplugging any other game consoles from any wall outlets in the general vicinity.

Also, are the Discs you are using ones that worked prior? Some of these systems work better with one type of CDR media over another.
I'll try the troubleshooting when I get the time. It's just weird that the CDR focus/seeking is corrected mechanically by tilting the console haha. I wouldn't discard the eletromag interference hypothesis.

To be quite honest CDRs never worked well, but I have beaten JB Harold before on this system with voices on and there was never a problem reading anything. Maybe I should just buy an RX to stop worrying about burned games.

Hey, I wonder if there's any homebrew in it, even if just a passive mention. The japanese doesn't seem that big on PCE homebrews.

Quote from: NightWolve on 04/10/2018, 07:02 PMRight, but the mocking was only due to pricks like Punch
Gee what a bully this Punch guy is.

I got to admit that when I saw the "Ron Jeremy's anus" post with the filter I laughed pretty hard.
#62
We are the world, we are the children.
#63
I've got a fairly weird problem into my hands: my Turbo Duo simply can't focus properly on tracks without inclining it in an almost 45 degree angle (it works perfectly in that position ). I'll test with legitimate cds later but it's happening with all my Taiyo Yudens.

I hope this isn't a matter of buying a new laser pickup. Sigh.

Wow this is a dark age era thread all right, nowadays having 500 gb ssd cards running is almost plug and play.

Nice info for retro PC enthusiasts though.

Bugs fixed! Just need to un-dummy the PCE version of the sprite handling routines and RLE compressed backgrounds. (and get rid of that ugly ass palette for once)

I hope the game gets to this stage soon:

QuoteI got reminded of Mednafen and it's actually pretty decent for debugging purposes....
Yes, it is. Make sure you go to the mednafen site and print out the debugger docs, so you
have it handy. There's a lot of nice things you can do with it.
And, as far as I'm aware, it's actually almost perfect emulation; if you see glitches when testing
in mednafen, you will almost certainly see the same glitches on real hardware.
I'm wondering if there are ways to load labels from the .sym file PCEAS generates into Mednafen. That would be useful (instead of having a second monitor with the file open searching for addresses lol.) I already have a nice cheat sheet printed out.

QuoteIf you don't understand, chances are I won't either
But I'll take a look.
At one time, I had a link to how the signal timing for NTSC video worked; how many pulses there were for various things, how long they needed to last, etc. I just didn't feel like working out exact timings in terms of how the pce did it.
I do remember being puzzled by how the values got set (in the bios routines), until I walked through the actual code. IIRC, they are set based on the center of the screen. So, in theory, it should be possible to come up with a higher Y resolution; I'm really interested in something other than nnnX240, but haven't found out how. Yet.

Maybe I'll look back into that soon.

And, for the record, I'm not an electrical guy. I'm a programmer. But sometimes you have to know these things. Or at least, sort of understand them when you google them.
That's true, to this day I have no idea how to calculate exact Vblank time on the NES. I always use some conservative approximation (and you probably know how bad this is since it's so limited in that regard). Maybe it's time to actually try to understand that kind of stuff.

:derpcat: :derpcat: :derpcat: :derpcat:

I got reminded of Mednafen and it's actually pretty decent for debugging purposes. Suddenly this became fun to do (!!!). So many bugs left to find, lmao. But as you can see the underlying logic is working semi correctly and building for the NES still works properly as it should.

/soZQ3sQ.png

EDIT: LOL I think I've figured out why there's a black stripe across the full screen fill and why the first column is also black: I'm probably writing the most significant byte of the tile first. Another bug slain, 9999999 more to go. :yuki:

/tXaA15h.png

Another question: does anyone know what emulator actually supports debugging? I have bizhawk but the debugger doesn't work properly and it's just for show. Well at least I can see that the game managed to get to my character VRAM upload routine

I regret starting this but I can't give up until it's done. Wasn't revising my code to translate specific hardware code enough work already? Sigh ](*,)

Quote from: TheOldMan on 04/01/2018, 09:33 PMI only vaguely understand that stuff - maybe you can explain it?

Wait, is this an actual thing? I came here thinking you were mocking the Wikipedia page but with those TGXCD codes you added to the thread I'm not sure if this is a serious question.

It is recommended to use the Arcade Card while playing the game so you don't lose the sweet arcade feel

I thought this was going to be a repeat of the boob gif thread. How disappointing.
#76
ATTENTION DUELISTS:

1. I'm still trying to figure out what's my window for manipulating VRAM data. I heard that you can write/read data anytime, is that true? If so, what happens if I change a tile while it's being rendered in the current scanline?

I'll probably stick to writing during vblank for now (I don't even know how much cycles it lasts lol). Write outside of vblank in the NES and everything starts jumping up and down and your tiles get written randomly everywhere since the PPU reuses the registers you use to write to VRAM when rendering, it would be nice if that didn't happen here.

2. How can you rip tilemaps easily with MAME? Asking for a friend.

I was going to say Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six but nevermind

Quote from: Psycho Punch on 03/30/2018, 11:11 PMThis doesn't change the fact that the Ys filter is pretty stupid. Can you blame me for thinking that you were the responsible for it?
Sure, it was a good assumptive guess to credit me upon noticing this, but you know ASSumptions sometimes get you egg on da face... I agree with it as an Ys fan, but dunno if I myself would've come up with the idea of doing it.

If Necromancer doesn't recall adding these Ys edit/fix rules, my guess would be Joe. Aaron never struck me as a big Ys fan.
Well, you could do a step in the right direction and remove the filter. I don't think writing Ys with an apostrophe ever resulted in anything aside from some laughs when used by mistake.

Are you saying the whole DildoPhile website isn't a joke?

For years since joining this group I thought the whole DildoPhile thing was a play one pedophile (like that pedophole bear meme).

Only duo in place of pedo.

Are you saying that it's not a joke web site and all this time he truly has been trying to get it off the ground with members?

Eat shit, Grandpa. You're so wrong about that I couldn't begin to explain it. Condemning an entire "generation" with a fad product is just stupid. There's no other word for it. Besides, the stupidest of these products is by *far* Facebook and that's really the most popular with people even older than me.
LOL look who's talking, the guy who hates everything and everyone.
I'll admit of being wrong with my generalization, though.
#88
I think it's just how the new generation rolls, they don't care about anything meaningful or deep. Take a look at the #1 "forum" platform for anything niche nowadays, the self purported "Home page of the internet", Reddit. There's a surprising number of reddit pages to anything you can think of, however discussions there can never compare to good old message board threads since everything revolves about how new your thread is and how many "upvotes" you got. It's not common to see deep, meaningful conversations disappear from the thread listing after a day or so because the massively upvoted memes took their place instead. Did I mention that there's no "bump" and your thread dies off anyway after a certain amount of time?

Even message boards nowadays are shallow and pointless.

Quote from: gilbert on 03/28/2018, 12:11 AMThat said, it was rumoured that Hudson ported Darwin 4078 to the PCE but the game was unreleased (Hudson had already ported the game to the MSX), which was even mentioned on Wikipedia. A more believable version is that Hudson did make a test game for the prototype of the PCE as a demonstration of the chip's ability in displaying large and numerous sprites. How complete this version is unknown, but it was probably never intended to be released and since Hudson switched partner during development of the chipsets the game probably won't run without major rewrites on a real PCE.
This is amazing, I wonder if there's any surviving pictures of it running on proto hardware. I mean, the rumors have to be created from some source

That being said, I always wondered what the names and ship shapes were supposed to represent in that game. Pister, Beas, Sharru?? I also wondered what's the setting/story for that game, but I'm afraid to search for it because I'm 100% sure it will be something stupid that will never live up to what I imagined it to be.
