2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

so, looking for just a few more things that have evaded me:

Shining Force 3 (US) - @$100
Silhouette Mirage (Saturn JP) - $40

hoping for them CIB + shipped, if they're a little rough but otherwise intact that's fine! I know you can sell them for more on ebay/etc but for what it's worth, i can guarantee you they'll have a happy home/be played and not resold!
Also looking for some Sega-CD pack-ins as well - thanks in advance here.

..the user, though the game is neat too

seriously, finally got my doujindace RGB/region modded Duo-R working like it should, and i couldn't be happier.  just wanted to say thanks for everything man, also just so you know you get mad love/praise over at GAF too, haha. totally gonna dump some more homebrew stuff that was recommended here onto my roommate's turbo everdrive & get back onto Rondo of Blood soon!

while back, my roommmate got a Turbo Everdrive - any good homebrew/unfinished/etc stuff we should be loading up on this thing?

i'd always wanted to play that Fantasy Zone/Harrier hybrid one, but i think that's a disc game.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Duo Arcade Card!
04/16/2014, 03:05 AM
Hey all, just wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions for places to find a fair price on an arcade card for my Duo-R?  i was gonna wait till later but with prices going up all over, though i'd check here for resources...was thinking of trying arcade-gears but i'd want to put in a larger order after paying some bills first!  anyway, thanks for any suggestions offered.

of course, i posted in the repair thread for help on my Duo-R before introducing myself a while back, really poor form there  :?  even bought stuff here before getting around to this!

so yeah howdy all, i hail from GAF/Sega-16/other places, grew up a sega fanboy but my best buddy next door got a turbo + CD, we were big on JRPG's so we tag-teamed Cosmic Fantasy 2 until it's ending kicked us both in the nuts, and down south we just couldn't find copies of Bonk/Legendary Axe/etc so the one time he thought he found one he came back all hyped, and it was Air Zonk!  he was so let down that it was a SHMUP & not a platfomrer, i was all over it though, haha.  recently bought it back from Galam too (thanks again man!).

I'm still in the process of getting the CD part of my Duo working, but ive been loving the hucards i picked up in the last year or so, thought it was high time i joined this community instead of just voyeur.  Thanks for having me & again apologies for the bad etiquette.

Man, i love this thing, but i'm about to throw it in the bushes.

some of you may recall (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=8926.60) i'd purchased a Duo-R (RGB & region modded) off doujindace late last summer, and was having issues with it - hucards work perfectly, but as the title says, any disc (be it legit or less so) gets the "PLEASE SET DISC!" error after attempting to read.  the thread i linked to there, i'd taken pics & was advised that the resistor which doujin said needed tightening was shot, so after getting back to him, he sent replacement ones, as well as a japanese screwdriver & proper power supply (i'd been using the duo-R one from retro game cave before).

since a buddy from GAF was RGB modding my NES anyway, i sent along said tools & my Duo, which he found puzzling since it worked just fine for him - nevertheless he replaced the needed bits & sent it back, but I still got the same error.  Taking his advice, i unplugged it from the power strip & tried something else - i ran a cheap extension cord across the room & plugged it in there, and BAM!  that night, everything played.  I was overjoyed!  he suggested plugging it straight into the wall, so i went to work on that.

i spent the greater part of my evening moving bookcases to rearrange outlets, only to have it fail entirely once plugged directly in.  now, even when i use extension cords - either the previous cheap one or a nicer one i'd picked up since - it's iffy at best; a legit Valis II boots, but burns of other stuff which worked fine that one magical night do not.  other times, even Valis won't work.  I'm so disappointed.

What should I do?  I could have a local friend come tighten VR102 (as doujin originally suggested) but before my modder friend replaced it, that solution also worked only for one night - the next morning, even without having moved the system, the errors resumed.  I really don't want to end up with a system so finicky & unreliable, and said modder did offer to buy it off me but i'd really like to get it working.  I suppose it's possible that something got banged around when shipping it back to me, despite the tight packaging?  I guess i'll try tightening it again but i really hope it takes, i want my Duo to be like every other classic system where i just plug it into the strip & it works as intended.

Any other suggestions?  I appreciate any help i can get here!

howdy all!  glad to finally get to join you guys  =;

right, so - i recently bought a PCE Duo R off a popular ebay seller who mods them for RGB & replaces the lens, was quite happy with my purchase but i had to wait on a PS1 AC adapter (couldn't find my genny model 2), just got everything sorted & plugged it into my XRGB mini only to get

Please set disc!

..regardless of trying legit discs, burns or music CD's.  obviously, I was pretty let down but i wanna make this work without having to send it back to japan, as it looks like a great unit otherwise.  i emailed the seller to verify the power unit was right, and he replied with:

Quote"Please try to adjust VR102(#1)."

which is a bit more invasive than i usually get, so i'm having a buddy who's more comfortable with this stuff help out tomorrow, hopefully.  is anyone else familiar with this error/fix?  i searched and found only one unanswered thread, was curious if either 1) there might be a less invasive answer or more likely 2) someone could provide something a bit more specific regarding those steps, as I'd hate to have it opened & get it wrong.  Much love in advance for any help offered!
