Quote from: esteban on 07/29/2017, 11:17 AMUPDATE: OK, after turning on my dehumidifier and placing the Heavy Unit manual in a container of baking soda, I think I may have figured something out...

IMG

...csgx1 is correct, that isn't a mold pattern.

IT COULD BE:

(1) aerial view of a "moon" depicting "faultlines" and craters...
(2) aerial view of earth depicting rivers and giant floating spores...
(3) painting entitled "Lilac #3"

Hmmmm....
All great possibilities.  I like #3 the best!  The lilac color is know to calm and relax, which is definitely needed when playing Heavy Unit.  :)

Interesting, is your spine sticker faded too?  Seems like all the ones I've seen for sale have faded spine stickers as well.  I wonder if that was also part of the art design or did they all just sit in a store window for years unsold.

Fortunately I've never had any mold problems where I live, but I'm always concerned with receiving funky stuff from others.

I picked up Heavy Unit and was a bit surprised at what I saw when I opened the case...

Took me a moment to realize the white shit isn't mold, but just the printed artwork on the back cover.  Not exactly on topic, but WTF kind of art is that?

Duo_r did a 3 button switch mod to a Ave 6 pad not too long ago.  Seems like a great mod and I've been wanting to do it when I have time.  I would also be interested in doing a mod to the Hori fighting commander.

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=19576.0

Also if you could utilize one of the extra 6B positions for switching modes/buttons or something, that would be quite nice and clean.

Quote from: guest on 12/13/2016, 01:25 PMThe Hori feels just like a genuine SNES gamepad. The only thing that gets me puzzled regularly are the missing shoulder buttons.
I agree, it feels just like a SNES pad which is why I kind of prefer the Ave 6 pad even though I think the Hori dpad is better.  Sometimes, out of habit, I press the blank shoulder area of the Hori when I play Street Fighter II.

PC Engine Japanese version.  Not sure if there are any differences with scoring.

A great game that I've never played back in the day.  Definitely a unique, challenging and fun experience after getting used to the controls.

Damn it!  Just this morning my juicer machine broke in spectacular fashion while making my daily kale juice.  The metal filter fell apart, pieces shot out and shattered the side of it, all while making a really loud bang.  Luckily no fragments shot out towards me.

Unfortunately broke at a bad time with the last stretch of the challenge being this week.  The juicer has been a vital tool for my diet and weight loss.  Time to get another one.

Congrats, looks like you scored a nice clean example.  I've been using the same model for a few years now and its a great monitor.

I was able to pick up a 1343md a couple weeks ago for $5 at a yard sale. Bought it untested and I had to get a degaussing ring to fully get rid of a bad screen discoloration problem it had.  The picture looks great after degaussing the screen.  It seems to have a slightly sharper image compared to my 20" probably due to the smaller sized screen.  The 13" makes a great little desk monitor.  Here's some phone pics.

I could have swore that someone posted a similar Mad Stalker screen-shot maybe a year ago, but searched for it and couldn't find a post.   I remember seeing that same screen shot.  Weird.  Maybe my psychic abilities kickin' in or my search abilities just sucks.

For standard cart shape, Hucards are definitely my favorite.  I do like the style and how massive Neo Geo AES carts are even though I'll most likely never buy or own any.

Also, some of the unique shaped carts that have handles, additional functions, inputs, etc. (or cartridge accessories) are pretty cool looking...

Station wagons are great.  My beater is a 93 Subaru Impreza L wagon (Fwd). I use it like a truck. I've hauled countless things like wheels/tires, car bumpers/parts, can recycling, wood, etc.  Also helped many people move with my wagon.  Not much to look at, but here's an old pic...

Two weeks ago I had to say goodbye to my old friend.

At least 400,000 miles on that little bastard.

The odometer broke over 10 years ago. But I averaged at least 20,000 miles a year, so....

My poor car...loyal for 20 years...but I did not make any repairs* for the past two years and instead of fixing her up, I opted to purchase my brother's old car (2008 Honda Civic).

His old car = my new car.

* repairs needed on my old car:
New windshield
New exhaust pipe + muffler
Possibly new catalytic converter
New tires
Overheating

Trivia: The old-timers may recognize the 2006 Honda Odyssey. Mandatory vehicle for three kids in suburbia.
Honda Civics are great cars and are absolute workhorses.  My wife had a 97 Civic that had 325k miles on it.  It was still going strong until late last year when her little brother (new driver) used it and ended up wrecking it.

I picked up a Innovation Multi-system arcade stick somewhat recently.  I was never in the market for a joystick but I picked it up because it was cheap and surprisingly it's compatible with the Turbo Duo/PC Engine.

Probably not talked about much since it's kind of hard to find and basically a generic brand.  I'll give my opinion on the Innovation stick if anyone cares to know.

I usually prefer controllers, so I don't have a lot of experience with various console joysticks.  I've never used the TurboStick or NES Advantage so I don't know how those compare.  I did grow up playing SFII and Neo Geo fighting games in the arcades.

The Innovation stick seems good, but probably far from the best.  It does use micro switches. Best feature is that it works with 4 consoles: PC Engine, SNES, Genesis, and Neogeo. Also has turbo and slow motion functions.  Negatives: the overall weight is light(all plastic case) and the overall size seems a bit small.  Buttons feel a little flimsy/loose and the button spacing is kind of wide.

Plays well with the SFII ports and fighting games that I've tried on the PC Engine, SNES, and Genesis.  Fighting moves and combos are easy to pull off.  I haven't tried too many other types of games but for the most part the stick controls well.

With shooters, action or other type of games I'll still grab a controller instead because that's what I'm used to. For me, a joystick is not an essential piece of hardware, but having the Innovation stick is great for casual use with my fighting games that it works with.

I got two, but only one is actually a turbo-less controller.  One came with a boxed white PC Engine system I bought years ago.  The other one, I'm not sure where I got it from but I ended up turbo modding it recently.  It's now my go to controller since it was hardly used and not all worn out.

Here's one of my proudest moments in gaming.  For the first time, I was able to 1cc Fighting Street (PCE version) with no cheats/cheating.  Sagat couldn't even touch me, I got double perfect rounds on him.  I am "King of the Hill!"  :D

Everyone can afford and should experience the power, elegance & luxury of a BMW Ultimate Driving Machine once in their lifetime.

Check the dealer link below for competitive pricing on a brand new 4 Series convertible.  Walmart employees should receive discounts and be able to negotiate below MSRP/sticker price.  Financing or layaway options might just help make the dream become a reality.

I tried the SFII' trick and it works.  Pretty cool feature that I wish other Hucard games had.  It also would be awesome if a Duo could be modded with CD player controls.

Here's more details that ElSeven posted a few years ago...

Quote from: ElSeven on 01/07/2013, 06:56 PMi love reviving this thread  :P

Rumor (legend?) has it that Street Fighter 2 was originally supposed to load music off of an included CD, which may explain why the hucard comes in a double case.  The double case could have just been used to make the game look more impressive, since it was a whopping 9800 YEN at release (ouch!).  Either way, the CD was apparently scrapped to help keep the cost down.

Well anyway, the programmers left in the code to turn off the chiptune BGM, so that you may enjoy CD Music with the standard SFII sound effects peppered in.  This procedure requires either a cd-rom2 briefcase setup or TG-CD.  Sorry, no fancy duo units allowed  [-(

1. Startup the game like normal, but let the demo play out
2. Insert a controller into port 3 of the tap and press RUN.  This will pause the demo, letting you know it worked correctly.
3. Insert any CD of your preference.
4. Press RUN on controller 1 or 2 to start the game like normal.
5. Press the PLAY button on the CD unit for the music to start, skip buttons to select track.

maybe this is well known, but I had trouble tracking it down online.  Thankfully the turbolist archives are still online.

Interesting combo idea; you got me curious...

Just tried test fitting and it won't work without serious modifications.  Height of the SGX expansion port is about a 1/2 inch higher than the Turbografx port making the insertion angle off. Maybe taking off the bottom of the SGX case might work.

If you somehow get the SGX to insert straight, you still would need to modify the port opening to fit.

Modding the RAU-30 to fit the Turbografx CD might be easier. That would be one funky looking system though.

Cool!, another Z enthusiast here.  Z32?  I'd love to hear more details about your Z.

I've owned two Zs. A '91 TT and a '93 2+2 that I still have.  Sadly, my Z has been sitting for years since it needs work and I haven't had the time.

My only hobby now is basically changing diapers and taking care of my kids.  Unfortunately at this moment there's no time to play games, work on my cars or time for any other hobbies with little ones around.
I have own three different Z throughout the years.  My first one was a 2+2.  Sold that and picked up a 91 twin turbo.  Sold the twin turbo a few years ago and have been kicking myself ever since.  I just picked up another z, this time a 93 NA just this past August.  All the z I've own were red including this one.  I love the way it looks, always have since I was a kid. And they are fun cars to drive.
Awesome, it sounds like you're a Z fanatic too. :)  I also wish I could have kept the TT but I ended up selling it to basically get one of my other dream cars.  Keeping two Zs just wasn't ideal, especially with kids now.  But NA Zs are still great cars, fun to drive, stylish and the engines are damn near bullet proof.  Only thing is working on certain things can be a pain since the the engine compartment is so tight; which is why I'm kind of dreading the work I eventually have to do.

Only red Zs?...so was that a must have color for you?  Did the game, S.C.I. with a red Z have any influence?  One of my favorite PC Engine games just because it features the Z.

Quote from: Desh on 12/16/2014, 07:38 PMAgreed.  I've always wanted one.  I drove a twin turbo once that was a pile.  It misfired and needed major mechanical attention.  All of those problems on top of the huge wing, ugly chrome wheels and a front bra hiding front end damage.  I was thinking it was a $2500 car.  The owner was thinking it was a $5000 car.  Needless to say I didn't buy it
Yeah, sadly a lot of Zs are really thrashed as these cars have gotten older. The one you described kind of sounded like my TT when I first got it. Misfiring with a lot of issues.  Clean, unmolested TT Zs are getting harder to find.

General Gaming / Re: Disc rot/Bronzing...

I have a disc that might be considered disc rot and it just so happens its a PC Engine game.  Received it from Japan in a lot a few years ago.  Looks like something ate away at the top area.  This is the only disc that I've come across. It doesn't seemed to have spread or gotten any worse since I had it.

I've only come across two bad HuCards so far since maybe my HuCard collection is pretty meager.  Both are CD system cards that don't work properly.

One is a 3.0 Super CD card that someone forcefully pried open.  I think when it was pried open was the cause for one of the chips to break off.   Some SCD games load up glitched and usually freezes.  Surprisingly it still plays all regular CD games fine.

IMG

Second Hu is a Duo Arcade card that loads games but glitches and/or freezes on the few ACD games that I have tried.  The HuCard shows no sign of physical damage.  I posted these glitched pics of Sapphire a few years back...
