Quote from: Marll on 12/01/2010, 02:20 PMI got what I think is a good deal at a local game shop in Redmond, WA.

Shockman in mint condition for $18. Manual, card and sleeve. No box or tray though.
What shop? That's local to me, I wasn't aware of any shops in Redmond still carrying TG-16 games.
It's a place called Amazing Heroes. Not much Turbo stuff there now, just 3 copies of Keith Courage, Sherlock Holmes Vol 1. Takin' it to the Hoop, and Tiger Road.

Buddy of mine goes in there a couple times a week to check for Dreamcast games and tipped me off.

I'd be interested in a gear. I've had my CD unit since about 1990-91 or so, and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before that gear breaks.
#204
The only CD+G that I have is the original pack in for the TG-CD.
#205
I never called those hotlines, mostly because I'm pretty sure that my Mom would have murdered me LOL
#206
I'd really like to see the pictures when you get it set up for use with the CD ROM.

Anyone know off-hand what dimensions that tray slip should be printed to? I looked up dimensions on the internet and each time it comes out way too small for some reason.

Glad I got my SSC when it was released! I also bought the Arcade Card Pro years ago for a good price along with a Purple Barney the same week. Got the Barney for a song, $30 shipped.
#209
Haha!

Never ceases to amaze me how some people come up with these prices...

HAHHAA, my buddies and I were just laughing about that one. So obiviously NOT new it makes my eyes bleed to look at that listing.

And even if it WAS all new, sealed in boxes complete....still wouldn't be worth that much.

I used the phrase "Snatch Mouth" to great affect yesterday in an argument. Stunned the other person enough that I won by their silence while that settled in

Made a purchases today, and didn't run it past the club

$5.95 for Battle Royale with Game, Manual and Case (maybe sleeve, but not sure).

All the other listings on e-bay were around $20 at the time and this one was buy it now so I pounced. Any higher and I'd probably have passed, but been hard finding good Turbo games locally lately.

After 21 years of Turbo gaming, probably too many to count, but pretty much any game that needed to be saved or a password written down I've done Run + Select after hours of play with no saving...Ys stand out in particular having done that many times...

I have China Warrior, can we be friends?!

I'm thankful for the best job I've ever had that also pays well, my wife and son, and that my TG16 is still going strong since 1989!

Is anyone aware of someone that can/will do one of these mods on a TG16 with the TGCD attachment? I've been thinking more and more about going S-Video or RGB-Component for my system, but after much thought (and the fact that I am very out of practice, with no spare systems) I don't want to attempt one of these myself.

Is anyone currently doing these mods?

Love Splatterhouse to this day. I remember how edgy it was when it released too...such a cool game to shock people with back in the day LOL.

As for the ads that the Turbo had:

1. Tons of places in the country never seemed to even see them run, while Genesis ads were plenty
2. Most were horribly cheesy

Also the box art for the US were generally pretty lame...they should have just ported the box art from Japan.

Recycled this from another post I made since it's relevant:

I've owned a TG16 since right around the time they were released in the US. I was a RABID fan of the system, constantly scoffing at friends with the Genesis because I KNEW that I had the superior system no matter what they said. I read every review in every magazine I could on the system, games and PCE stuff. I didn't have normal posters in my room as a kid, only TG ads that were cut out of the magazines and posted on the wall. I saved money from mowing lawns to buy a converter and Street Fighter 2 when it came out in Japan and endured the 3 months shipping time to my house...

My parents were cool and got me the Turbo for Christmas one year the Turbo CD and the Super System Card the year it was released. I have toted the system all over the world with me as I moved around while serving in the Army, the system has never failed me. I desire to have a complete collection some day, but not willing to compromise on quality or price (to a certain degree).

Biggest Turbo mistake was selling it at one point before I left for the Army...I bought it back after 2 months because I couldn't stand it...thankfully I came to my senses.

I can abide by these rules. Ebay handle is marcel_alexis.

I tend to be a very cautious buyer on ebay, and only really buy complete games that are in good shape. I have been known in the past to pass up auctions that seemed even a few dollars high because I wasn't willing to pay more than what I thought was fair, I can wait it out most of the time. I've recently been visiting vintage game stores in the Seattle area and got a few good deals:

China Warrior (Complete, good condition) $8
Andre Panza Kick Boxing (Complete, good condition) $5
Space Harrier (Complete, good condition) $15
Devil's Crush (Complete, good condition) $15
Valis 3 (Complete, decent condition) $19
Double Dungeons (Complete, amazing condition) $14 (really mint or I'd have passed on it)
Turrican (Complete, good condition) $17

A bit more about me in general as a Turbo player:

This may seem like a silly question, but does anyone have pictures of a modded TG16/CD for RGB?

I really would like to mod mine to do something like SCART to Component (or something), but having a hard time fully understanding once you make the mod, build the amps and such, how does that get to the cable to go to the TV? Like I said it may seem like a silly or stupid question, but I'd like to be able to visualize more of the end result before I just dive in.
#222
E-bay prices have gotten even more out of hand lately. How do I sign up?
#223
I fixed a TG-16 with a bad controller port once, the board had been abused and was actually cracked around the solder points. I actually used some solid core wire to basically re-make the runs and re-soldered everything. Been working for years now.
#224
I'd gladly get a CRT (or actually I used to have an older Commodore monitor that worked amazing with the Turbo) but currently I have nowhere to put one. I'd gladly pay money for something as long as I knew that it would make the picture quality better on an LCD.
#225
Does anyone know if these work very well? Having an HDTV, Turbo games just don't seem to live up to their former glory when it comes to color and clarity.

It seems like from the information that I have read that these converters are able to upscale the video a bit, improve the color and the overall look of the pixels, and then if you put the TV into 4:3 mode it should look very similar to what the games would look like on an SDTV.

Awesome! Send me a PM with how much you want for the lot and we can work out a deal.
#227
Great, let me know what you might have and we can probably work out a deal.
#228
I went ahead and bought 2. The price was too good to pass up, and on really close inspection of the picture, the lighting is what makes the plug look smaller, but it is a TG16 cable and not Duo/PCE.
#229
Yeah I know they didn't but would love to have cases and get the stickers that Sparky makes and create cases for them :)

I think that not including cases was one of my biggest gripes with TTI and Hudson back in the day... I like my cards to be protected dang it!
#230
Quote from: DreamTR on 12/18/2009, 03:08 PMThose are Turbo Grafx Repair Cables, not Duo.
If they are I'll buy some right now. Have you purchased some as well and they are verified as Turbo repair cables? Worst case I suppose I could resell them.
#231
Does anyone have for sale spare HuCard cases, sleeves and manuals? I'm missing a few and would like to get some replacements, or just cases in general for a couple of games:

Air Zonk - Sleeve and Case (I know it didn't come with one, would probably buy the case stickers available here)
Victory Run - Sleeve and Case
Falcon - Sleeve, Case and Manual
R-Type - Manual
Fighting Street - Manual
Parasol Stars - Manual
Keith Courage - Sleeve
CD System Card 2.0 - Sleeve and Case (Have a 3.0 and Arcade Card, so not super important)
#232
No response from the seller yet, but after looking at the picture enlarged and then comparing to my current controllers, I'm pretty sure those are repair cables for Duo controllers.

At this point I'm wondering if it would just be easier to convert my 2 Avenue Pad 6s back to the small DIN as well as my other 3 controllers and Turbo Stick and get a PC Engine or Duo Tap, then take the cable from my Turbo Tap and use that on the Duo Tap...whew...I really wish they'd just kept the controllers the same for all systems  :x
#233
Thanks, I sent the seller a question to clarify, but the description does specifically say Turbo Pad, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Turbo Pad Repair Cables
12/16/2009, 07:13 PM
I know TZD went out of business a while back, but wonder if anyone knows where I might be able to get 2 repair cables for 2 Turbo Pads I have. I used their cables to mod 2 Avenue Pad 6's back in the day (probably about 8 years ago).
#235
Sorry, just noticed from your site that you don't do TG-CD stuff :(
#236
Very cool mods. I'd be interested in Getting my Express repaired, and perhaps a region switch added to my TG16 and the TG16 backlight.

Do you also do the component video mod? I'd love to have component video on my TGCD :)
#237
Well it appears as if the unit won't really power on, the screen lights up for a second and then slowly fades out, but no video is displayed and I hear no sound.

I could probably do the sound fix, and other cap replacements, but would prefer to pay someone to do it. Maybe I'll take it apart again and see if I can see any blatant problems when I reassembled it.
#238
So, checked the Express this morning, and actually it looks like the system won't really power on. I put in batteries and when I flip the switch, the screen lights up and then slowly fades out.
#239
So I've been collecting TG16 stuff since the system came out and have a decent collection (though not nearly complete). I recently came into possession of a Turbo Express which was very neglected and dirty, it also had VERY weak sound. I took it apart, and cleaned the case, but when I put it back together now the buttons don't work if I remember correctly (I'll need to dig it out when I get home and make sure). I've taken countless game systems apart, done repairs to TG-16 systems in the past, modded controllers, etc, but don't have the time, equipment or patience any more to figure out what is messed up in this system. How much would someone charge to perhaps do a repair/cap replacement on my Express?

Also, something I have noticed over the years with my TG-CD. When the games are loading, you get the sound of the CD drive loading and sort of a whirring sound through my sound system. This seems to have gotten worse over the years and is now every loud. Anyone have any idea what might be causing that?
