I own it, and I will say that, disregarding how anyone feels about the game itself, this is, in my opinion, the best version of the game.

Besides higher video quality, here is a list of things to know about the new version:

- The intro is completely different from all previous versions of the game to be released. It explains the story a little better, but at the cost of not explaining the gameplay nearly enough. They don't even MENTION the whole color code system, which is very unfortunate for those playing this for the first time. On the upside, there is no bullshit with random game overs for watching too long, or it taking up in-game time to watch to penalize first-time players.

- There is a very useful new feature that makes playing the game less of a chore. In the options, you can select whether the room icons are just icons, as in previous versions, or thumbnail previews of what's going on in said room, making it much easier to keep track of what's happening in each room. No more channel surfing to see what's going on!

- There are a few deleted scenes reinstated into the game. You can actually trap Commander Simms near the end, or even allow the preteen boy to get killed by the augers, to name a couple.

- There is now a "checkpoint" at around where the disc change would occur in previous versions. If you make it to "Disc 2" and fail, you can restart from that spot, instead of the very beginning.

- A new Score Attack-style game mode.

- Tons of unlockable bonus features, including: a theater mode where you can re-watch any of the story-related scenes you've seen in previous playthroughs; two documentaries; behind the scenes images; and most interesting of all, a completely playable version of Scene Of The Crime, a prototype game made as a proof of concept to sell the idea of the ControlVision/NEMO (the unreleased console that Night Trap was originally designed for) to Hasbro.

All in all, if you like Night Trap at all, definitely give it a go. If you dislike the game, though, this version isn't likely to change your mind.

I finally got off my ass and relinked to my avatar from its new home on Imgur. Thanks to everyone who recommended it in this thread.

You gotta love how Photobucket not only now prevents free accounts from linking images, but they also punish you for all the links you made in the past before they made this braindead mandate!

Bye, PB! Don't let your bankruptcy lawyer's front door smack you in the ass on the way out.

I'm glad things are going well! At first, I was disappointed that I couldn't participate (my Mic decided to break at the WORST possible time), but it may be for the best. I have trouble doing voices besides my own standard anyway. I'm now just happy that Sam got the publicity and talent to make this the best possible dub it can be.

Can't wait to see and hear the final results, Sam! That will definitely be a day long remembered! :D

That being said,

I appreciate your apology. I did overreact quite a bit, and I apologize for blowing a gasket. I understand that you were just trying to tease a little, but when someone makes it clear that they are not appreciating the joke and you keep going, that's where it begins to escalate into bullying.

Yeah, I have thin skin, and I do need to work on that. However, this community as a WHOLE seems to have a talent for bringing out the worst of humanity in all of us. (Ashley Madison? Really, Nulltard?) Now, that might just be the power of the internet, but I really feel that the PCE community in particular has an extremely toxic atmosphere, and it shouldn't have to be that way. Let's face it, if we treated each other in person the way we sometimes do on this forum, there would probably be no community.

Let's not make ourselves hate each other. That's what discussing politics and religion are for, not love for a video game console.

Ah, of course. So because I didn't put up with them making sexually charged comments about my sister and make a passive aggressive comment, I am a narcissist. Did you even read the chat log? Saru made those comments, without context, after my sister was mentioned. The show in question was my YouTube videos about obscure video games. Saru's excuse for his comments did not come out until afterward. Learn to read and analyze context.

I wasn't sure where to post this, so this thread will do. I'm fucking done with DoxPhile.

I hadn't been on in a while, so I decided to pop in for a bit, and within that time, all Gredler and Sarumaru wanted to talk about was sexual shit about my sister. Ever since my sister appeared in the second episode of my Youtube show, that's all they want to talk about with me. I made it very clear that I wasn't finding their shit funny, but they kept it up anyway, saying extremely nasty shit and then making excuses for it until I couldn't take any more.

If I wanted to have discussions on this level, I would go to a Youtube comment section. I certainly wouldn't come to what is supposed to be a gaming forum where I can talk to like-minded individuals about video games.

Absolutely gorgeous. Sounds very close to the original Genesis version and perfectly captures the spirit thereof. I recently attempted to make my first chiptune; a version of Ys II's Termination for Genesis, but it didn't turn out nearly as well as yours. Kudos!

If anyone here is acting high and mighty, it's you. Translations take a HUGE amount of time and effort, and you showing up, basically demanding that we drop everything and translate the games you want, then throwing a temper tantrum because we mildly teased and criticized you instead of immediately giving you your way, is not going to make things go any faster.

If you can't even handle such low-level teasing and mild criticism, then this is DEFINITELY not the forum for you.

Quote from: TurboXray on 12/18/2016, 06:52 PM1) What right do you have to anything? I mean, complaining that you can't afford this or that, when it isn't a matter of life or death, or even the difference between eating unhealthy junk food vs eating healthy (i.e. more expensive), or not having the income to move out of the ghetto <- better quality of life by being safer. You're talking about physically owning games, to play on your old relic of a system. You have no inherent right to that. And in context, you have every opportunity to play or "own" any of these games via emulation, CD-R, or flashcard. So this whole, "I can't afford it" thing seems petty, especially knowing how expensive these systems are to collect for -> this isn't some surprise to you. Even if you did buy the game from PCEWORKS, it's not the original. It's still a fantasy of owning the original, which really isn't any different than CD-Rs, flashcard, or emulation. It's fantasy shelf candy.
I never claimed that owning these games was my right. It is indeed a "want" and not a "need." I could indeed just burn a game to one of my Taiyo-Yuden CD-Rs, and in all honesty, I should. The problem is, as you yourself put it...

Quote from: TurboXray on 12/18/2016, 06:52 PMDon't get me wrong. From a human-science perspective, I understand the experience with the relationship of owning a physical copy of the game. I understand that the experience of the game is more than just the controller and interaction with the game logic; it's the feel of the real controller, the sounds of the CD drive seeking, the act of taking the game out of its case, parsing through the manual, and placing it in the system - the physical affirmation of the system sitting in front of you; the aesthetics. All of it. But it's still a choice, not a right or something owed. And you have other options that aren't preventing you from playing any of these games - only your own view that's preventing you from enjoying them via other options.
Maybe it's because I have a bit of "collectard" in me, but I have a fascination with high quality game repros. They give me the same thrill I get from buying a new game; to be able to read through an elaborate manual, to put an actual cart or CD in my system; it's just not the same with emulation.

You are correct though, it is just an illusion, but for me, as a classic gamer, it's a very powerful one.

Quote from: TurboXray on 12/18/2016, 06:52 PM2) You feel bad that Tobias cheats people with deception, and you feel bad that he rips off homebrewers.. but none of that compares to the evil of having to deal with ebay sellers of the real products??? Do you realize the absurdity of that statement? I know you're trying to rationalize it with the minimal amount of guilt or feeling shitty about it, but in the end you pretty much just said, "I feel a little bad about what he's doing, but not bad enough to not to support Tobias". Your nod to the opposition is just that - for show. And that's what it boils down to for you. And if that's how you feel, then just say it. Don't shift the blame on ebay sellers. That's ridiculous. No one is forcing you to do anything - you made a choice. Own it. Don't squirm around it because it make your conscience feel better.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up there. I really do feel that eBay sellers are a major factor in why we have this situation to begin with. They are the ones who jack up the prices for original games, giving Tobias a reason to make these bootlegs in the first place. They are the majority of the ones trying to pass off these bootlegs as real to make a quick payday. They are likely the ones getting Tobias to make 1:1 replicas of the original packaging. I am pretty sure that they are part of the problem.

But...

Quote from: TurboXray on 12/18/2016, 06:52 PMBuying his items isn't just a decision on the morals and ethics of him profiting on someone else's work (Capcom, NEC, whoever) - it's the fact that when you purchase something from this specific man, you're not only supporting what he does, you're elevating/promoting what he represents. Fraud, deception, robbing from the very community that gave it something special. You need to own that too.
When it comes down to it, this is the real issue here, and you're right. I am putting my selfishness ahead of the community's interests, and that's not fair to you guys.

You've changed my mind, Bonknuts. I will not buy any more of Tobias' bootlegs. I'll burn Taiyo-Yuden CD-Rs instead. I need to own up to what I'm doing and not make excuses.
#15
While I understand why Tobias is hated around here, and I know he has done some pretty selfish things, there is an issue that I would like to bring up here.

I live on a fairly modest monthly budget, and that makes it extremely difficult to justify buying Turbo games right now, because eBay sellers are charging obscene amounts for even common games. When I first entered the Turbo scene, a copy of Neutopia II was selling for about $100. Now that's what a copy of the first game is being listed at.

With that being the situation, there is no way I could buy a legit copy of games like Beyond Shadowgate, Dynastic Hero, or Dungeon Explorer II, and still feel comfortable about it. I could burn a CD-R, but we know that those are not great for the lasers in our systems, and frankly, look butt-ugly when the game's on the shelf between plays.

Tobias' repros are not cheap, but I can still get four games for less than the price of one (legit copy), and it's professionally pressed, printed, and looks like an actual product that I can feel happy to have on my shelf and in my CD drive. For the first time, I have a chance to actually feel like I "own" these games. That would never happen if I were left to the nonexistent mercies of eBay sellers.

Should Tobias try to make his repros look legit? No. Should he profit off of the homebrew community without permission? Of course not. However, I'd much rather deal with him than the eBay sellers. In fact, I'd argue that it's because of them that we have this situation in the first place. Tobias provides a service to people who want these games but cannot afford them, and I am happy to support that...up to a point. I won't be purchasing his unauthorized copies of fan translations or homebrews out of respect for those who make them.

Does that make me a selfish person? Yeah, probably, but if it means I can own and experience "rare games" like Dynastic Hero without breaking the bank or funding swindling resellers, I can live with that. Games are meant to be played, not bought and sold like stocks.

Commodore computers were badass. I have both a C64 and C128 that haven't received NEARLY enough love from me lately. Don't have an Amiga, though. They're kinda expensive.

In a way, you could argue that the C64 was in many ways one of the precursors of the "gaming PC," with its great graphics and sound for the time. Although, unlike gaming PCs today, it was reasonably priced.

Hmm...this thread makes me want to boot mine up!

Outstanding work, Elmer! Those character portraits look great! The one thing that bothers me is that on the title card, the part that says "The Legend of" doesn't quite match the part that says "Xanadu II." There's a bit of an art style clash. I think it's because of one having a black outline and the other not having one. That's just a minor nitpick, though.

Umm...you might have noticed that I haven't been around much lately. After how badly I embarrassed myself the last time I was here in any real capacity, I decided to take a voluntary leave to get my head together.

Looking back on what happened, I really was quite an asshole. Regardless of how I feel about Nightwolve, I had absolutely no excuse to behave the way I did, flipping my shit and betraying his trust like that. On top of that, I then tried to garner sympathy by blaming personal issues and offering a half-hearted apology only to flip-flop right back the moment that didn't work. My behavior was childish and disgusting, and all over something that isn't any of my business anyway. My most sincere apologies.

With that said, I am hoping to possibly return in some capacity, that is, if I'm still welcome. I will try to keep a more level head and not nuke any more bridges, and perhaps even be a little more proactive in contributing to the community, and not just be that guy who sits in the corner leeching off of everyone.

I hope you all can forgive me, but I also understand if you aren't ready, if ever. Regardless, I want to do my best to make it up to all of you. I hope I will be able to...

That's how you started this, you arrogant cuntbag! But you flamed out cause return fire came back your way! You must've thought or rather hoped you'd get a 4chan/GameFAQs/ALOY reaction, instead more people told YOU to f--k off than not!
Ah, you were referring to the pic I made of that big stunt you pulled. Yeah, I saw your post, saw red, flipped out about it and did some things I shouldn't have. Don't know what you're talking about with this whole "tracked you down" thing, as I've been here for long before all of that. I called you out on it publicly, and in retrospect, I agree it would've been a better idea to discuss it with you privately.

QuoteYou should've f--ked off from the point of your apology, instead of coming back into my thread and posting this.
Ah, I see. It's OK for you to retaliate when I attacked you, but not for me to retaliate against your retaliation. Got it.

QuoteYou're schizophrenic in apologizing, then resuming right back on the attack! And yet you hypocritically like to call others paranoid and lunatics!
After my apology, you kept going on and on about what a monster I am. I decided that I shouldn't have to just sit back and take it.

QuoteThere's NOTHING that I said about a slimeball like you that's based on paranoia. NOTHING! You're a two-faced slimy piece of shit, always have been and that you took part in trashing me in Thomas Lipschultz's shame thread years ago is simple fact! Second, I've said that my flame thread was wrong several times already. I've also said several times that I made a mistake in jumping to conclusions and spouting off in that ALOY thread. I even posted that the whole thing was my fault and apologized in THAT VERY THREAD.

You keep claiming that I am the one who wants to start this up again. Every post I've made since the one where I attempted to say I was done with the matter and moving on, has been in response to YOU, in response to YOU starting up the attack again! I've said multiple times that I want this to end. Every time, you come back with another post attacking me. If anyone is continuing this, it's YOU. I don't even need to reply anymore for you to feel the need to keep going! While writing this reply, you made another post to keep up the attack!

Well, you may want to keep going, but I am done. I'm not posting on this subject anymore. You can keep going by yourself if you want to, but I will not reply. Good day.

When Lukester pointed out my outburst that started this whole thing, in reply to a post that had nothing to do with said outburst, I calmly explained my thoughts as briefly and non-aggressively as possible. I wanted this to be over and done with, but YOU keep feeling the need to open the lid again. Seriously, did you even read that response I made to Lukester, or did you just see me mention our fight and go ape shit?

QuoteI didn't appreciate it going from Facebook, to you tracking me down to an active forum to start a fight with me there!
I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. I'm pretty sure that this altercation began here, that I never had a shouting match with you on Facebook. Also, I've been a member of this forum for YEARS before my big rant about you. I have no idea where this whole thing about you thinking I'm stalking you came from. Sounds like delusions of importance or persecution to me.

QuoteBut we get it, XSEED is your precious Ys supplier in the present, you don't care that they cheated me, and I should just shut up and go away as far as holding them accountable for their actions...
I DID care, but the more you act like a spoiled, paranoid lunatic, the further I get from caring.

Now, unless you are compelled to keep going, I would like this pointless back-and-forth to END. I have nothing more to say, except in response to your continued need to respond.

Nightwolve, I am truly sorry about what happened with Jeff and XSeed, but your bad attitude started long before that, and I would be far more sympathetic to you if it weren't for said bad attitude. The name-calling, accusations that I'm "one of them", pictures of you flipping the bird while hiding behind your Falcom collection, constant juvenile snark, and more really makes it hard for me to want to take your side.

I admit (and will continue to admit) that my outburst was wrong of me, but the feelings behind it are very real.

I'll be honest; these feelings didn't come out of nowhere. They built up over years and years of watching your behavior, and then they exploded in that rant I wrote. I tried to hold it inside, act like I didn't have a problem with you, listened with fake calm to your own rants, and tried to accept it all. I failed. Feelings are not meant to be bottled up inside.

From this point on, I'll try not to shove my opinions down people's throats, but I'm not going to lie if asked, either. I think your attitude sucks. You have problems with me as well. I accept that. However, at this point, I think the best option is to just accept that we don't care for each other and live with it without having to be at full-out war...

...Unless, of course, you want to keep throwing verbal punches at me. I have no problem with it if you want to be at each others throats all the time.

Still, I'd much prefer that we just agree that we don't like each other and move on.

Anyone who has an interest in the process of crafting and telling a good story should try watching Adaptation. It's a surreal comedy about a depressed, self-conscious movie scriptwriter who is convinced that real life is boring, uninteresting, and not entertaining in the slightest, only to get caught up in a series of events that may prove him completely wrong.

To say much more would spoil it. It's not for everyone, it's a bit artsy, but it's very clever, intelligent, and entertaining in a very unusual way.

Here's a trailer:

While I indeed have a beef with how NightWolve handles his grievances with others, I realize, now that I've cooled off, that it is none of my business, and he has no need for me bitching about it.

Members are required to have the exact same taste in gaming, opinions about the state of gaming, and ways of expressing said taste in gaming as the forum elite. Those who dare to express love for non-obey compliant games or express their love for games in a way that the forum elite doesn't appreciate (like, say, make a Tool-Assisted Speedrun), or disagree with the forum elite on any topic, no matter how petty or important, will be flamed with extreme prejudice.

Holy shit! I thought I would never see this project make any more progress!

Also, that title graphic is awesome. Kudos to Black Tiger and Elmer!

Keep up the great work guys! I am cheering for you! =D>

Also, if you guys do decide to go ahead and translate the first game, I would be happy to reprise my role as Nuse. God...that seems so long ago, now...me, recording my dialog on a shitty mic I bought from Wal-Mart...I've gotten a much better mic since then, and I also now know how to use the noise cancellation feature in my recording program! I think I even asked SamIAm once if he wanted me to re-record my dialog with the better setup; I don't think I ever got an answer. I hope it sounds OK.

As a perverted amateur game voice actor with no shame, I would be proud to audition for a role in a potential translation of this game!

Fair enough. You're absolutely right that NightWolve deserves credit for the work he put into making the translation possible. He absolutely does. What I really take issue with is his childish behavior concerning this whole issue. It's because of this behavior that I had trouble trusting him. Also, it's only going to hurt him if his case ever goes to court.

Sephiroth, thank you for your well-written post. I cannot argue with facts. I said some things in my earlier posts that show how emotional I was while writing them and that didn't make a lick of sense. The truth is, I typed without thinking rationally.

I made my prior posts in frustrated anger, and after thinking about it, you are all absolutely right that this is none of my business and that my ramblings do not hold water.

NightWolve, I can only offer my most sincere apologies to you for all the bullshit I've spewed. I know it's not worth much, considering that this isn't the first time I've done shit like this to you. For what it's worth though, I plan on doing my best to not screw up a third time. Whether you forgive me or not, I totally understand your frustration with me. I have been acting as a fair-weather friend, and you deserve better than that.

Finally, I am intrigued by those posts by Wyrdwad that you mentioned, Sephiroth. Would you mind sending me a link to some of them when you have the time?

Anyway, I'll try to keep my trap shut on this issue from now on. My foot tastes quite awful. ](*,)

Quote from: PCEngineHell on 05/16/2015, 11:12 PMOn no child, make no mistake, I am not attacking you because you have a disability. Lets snuff out that wishful thinking right now. The reality of the situation is I laid into you because you decided you would try to use your disability as an excuse to have free reign to pester, cause drama, and insert yourself multiple times into Nicks business, like you are still doing as of today.
I accept that, and you are right that using my disability as a crutch was immature and wrong of me. My disability isn't why I attacked Nick. I attacked Nick for the same reason I'm assuming you attacked me; I have a very low tolerance for people's bullshit.

If Nick had been dealing with Deuce and XSeed's apparent treachery in a mature, sensible way, not only would I not feel the need to attack him like this, but I would also most likely give his story a lot more credence. Ever since the Felghana translation patch fiasco, though, Nick's behavior has been extremely odd, to say the least. I had been trying to put up with it for a while, but when I saw that Facebook post, I decided that I had had enough.

I remember reading an interview with Deuce a while back on Hardcore Gaming 101. He mentioned that one of the main reasons he quit associating himself with NightWolve was because of his behavior after the patch leak. Regardless of the morality of his actions, I can understand where he was coming from. Seriously, I remember NW seemed like a completely different person before that. When the patch got leaked, he went totally ape shit.

The Treasure Chest theme from the early Ys games may have been ripped off from Metroid. Seriously, listen to the 'Got Item' jingle from that series. It's almost identical!

Wow. This thread really exploded while I was busy finishing up my classes.

First off, I must say that I find NW's paranoid delusion of me being a secret agent working for XSeed absolutely hilarious. Honestly, I cannot even recall the last time I logged on to ALOY, and I certainly haven't been speaking to XSeed staff on the side. Still, I can't help but be a little touched that NW sees me as such a threat! :P

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that what Deuce and XSeed did was indisputably illegal. That does not make it legal, in ANY way, for NW to retaliate by releasing a pirated version of Ys VI at the same time as XSeed's version. NW's argument for why he should be allowed to do this is basically, "They hit me first!" Seriously? Are we all still in Third Grade?

My reasoning for calling NW crazy was not that I didn't believe that he had been screwed over by Deuce and XSeed (although I probably could have clarified that better in previous posts). He may have been. I am not capable of making a proper judgement, because I do not have all the facts and both sides of the story. All I had was NW's word and some circumstantial evidence.

The reason that I feel NW is out of his mind is because his immature actions are only going to hurt any case he might have a chance to make. Whether Deuce and XSeed eventually are found guilty or not, the fact that NW is throwing temper tantrums and using illegal petty revenge tactics is going to make any lawyer or judge in the case think long and hard about supporting him. It will also give XSeed some high-caliber ammo of their own. NW is shooting himself and his case in the foot.

Finally, you can call me crazy all you want, NW. From what I've seen, it's all "Pot calling the kettle black." The simple fact of the matter is that my point of view clashes with yours. If that makes me crazy, having a different point of view from you, I would hate to find out what being a "sane" person is like. They sound like a bunch of sick fucks to me.

This was the part where I was going to lay into Prof., but do I really need to? The fact that he's attacking me over my disability, and basically telling me to get over it as if I could walk it off, and all in the most insulting, obnoxious way possible, really says everything you need to know about his character.

Moving on, can someone summarize for me why everyone hates DarkKobold? All I remember is something about everyone going psycho over his Tool-Assisted Speedruns or something. Was that DK, or someone else? :-k

This is the scariest thing I have ever read on this forum. I'm glad that I have a bad memory and don't remember anything from those times.
