@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I need to replace the battery on my bank. I really don't want to have to buy "another" Tennokoe Bank to move games over to and then replace the battery on mine.

Is there a way to keep it powered up and retain saves, i.e. If I have the card plugged in and the system powered on, can I de-solder the battery and install the new one? I would obviously have to remove the "Shield" before inserting the hucard.

I haven't seen anywhere with this question specifically or an answer. I know some people do this with SNES games.

Any ideas let me know.

I love this controller. The white pc engine controller killed my hands when playing Ys I and II, but this controller definitely changed how I look at PC Engine now. I wish I had it earlier.

I finally sat down and beat the last bit after Solomon's Shrine. Holy hell, I haven't played a challenging dungeon like that in awhile. The respawn rate in Ys I and II can be a hurdle at times as well, especially if you save at the wrong time in combat and try to load your game up. The last boss battle took me about 10 deaths before I finally got him too, those rocks/balls are a real pain. I know others have played this, especially because they helped me out when I had issues with the Skull Boss.

On to Ys III

So, I saw someone trying to like charge for this manual, I think it was like $45 or something. I have uncletusk do a lot of my manuals that I help produce for translated games, I've done or helped with. IF you know his work, you know he's awesome. I'm wondering if anyone would be interested if I worked from the original YS IV manual we have on the site? I think he'd charge us between $10 and $12 for the manual to be made. We could do a small batch. No profit on my side, if people where interested, I'd have them made up and only charge that price + shipping to your door or cave.

Any interest?

Because I wouldn't allow myself to cut into the Duo-R (even though it's not the prettiest), I have the switch between the lid and the bottom of the Duo-R near the huey slot. Has anyone done a mod where it doesn't damage the unit too much?

I repaired this one from scratch about 2 years ago now.

I wanted to start a TG collection, but I really don't have time for video games like I wanted. Anyone need these two?

I purchased a Keith Courage repro box from a great member here, and Exile from another forum, I believe.

Has anyone seen these releases?

They are "re-releasing" copies of known PC Engine games as reproductions. You'll have to join their mailing list to get information on the games etc.

Anyone have the Duo-RX or larger controller. I have the base pc engine controller (white), but I'd like the larger controller for it's ease of use.

Trades or cash definitely, please PM me.

Thanks

I purchased a Duo-R soon after joining this site. The unit was sold nonfunctioning. I repaired pretty much everything except the caps, which were still good and the unit worked. Now, I had to repair the sides of the case as they were damaged. They are better now, but I you can still see cracks if you look closely.

Now, I'd like to attempt to bondo the cracks and paint it black and re-decal the unit with the PC Engine Duo logo.

Any advice, or would this be unlawful to paint such a thing of beauty.

Looking to purchase some of my favorites. Please let me know. I'll pay cash or trades.

So, I have two Duo-R's now, both that I've saved from the depths of abuse from their original owners on Ebay.

The one I'm talking about in particular had it's sides cracked and deep scratches all over it, besides having the need for a new laser, capping etc. Because of this damage, I thought about cleaning it up and painting it black with a similar glosse it has already in its basic white color. After that I'd do the same purple stencil lettering on the front and change the LED to purple.

So, thoughts from you guys? Why I'm asking is, let's say I want to get rid of it (probably not lol) in 5 years, would this kill any potential resale value?. I wouldn't call it killing a console, as the damage is really bad, but it can be fixed with some "bondo" and time.

So I've tried hitting the arsehole in the face/mouth (Boss in Ys Book II in the Burnland area) when the snake starts to go back in his mouth, yet never any damage is taken.

What am I doing wrong.... 16 deaths later.

Thanks

So, I've been messing around with PCE CD translations.

I was able to identify specific areas of the game text using WINDHEX and a SHIFT-JIS table. However, not all the Kanji are showing up, so that's odd.

For Dragon Slayer 2, I identified the text for the action menu (Spells, Items, Save, etc.). Now, when I try to use 16font such as 53=S 50=P and L=4C, the menu goes bananas, and nothing works But the world SPL show up (and that menu works), however if I only replace the kanji letters with 32font, everything works fine 8272 = S and 826F = P. Now, my question is why. Does the PC Engine not read single 8font (i.e. 53-S) as only taking up one area? being a smaller letter size like the Wii does?

i.e. whether I use a 16 or 32 octet, the area is the same, like the 53=S and the 8272=S take up the same room. The Wii console doesn't do this....

The above link is for a .pix image file

It comes from the game Earth Seeker, that
I'm currently translating.

I have NO idea how to read it, no program
I found will identify it

IT should look like this.

So, I've gotten a basic main menu and sound, pressing 'Run' gets you into the game itself. Now I'm trying to figure out a few things.

Update: Grafx2 fixes my saving issues, however if I try to add any "new" color to the original .PCX file, I'm getting "Invalid Color Index Found" while compiling in HuC.

Update 2: Duh... you're only allowed 16 palettes, and 0 is one of those 16 (0-15). I'm dumb.

I'm using Photoshop to do the 32x32 character, so I'm assuming I've messed it up with how the PCX file is saved.

#incpal(bonkpal, "warrior.pcx");    /This command should be pulling the palette from the .pcx to make it work, but the character is all black.

When modifying an already created .PCX, it seems to stick me with the original pcx's colors. I even tried to use the same color palette that the original .PCX used, but it's still black (so I think saving the file in Photoshop is messing it up)

What are my palette limitations exactly and what sprite programs do you guys use ?

Some sprites I'm working with now. The pieces of "up for use", so I'm going to see what I can do with them in a 32x32 pixel area etc.

So, probably the coolest thing ever...

Super Hucard (I don't want to link to it, as there are "Roms" on the site in the downloads)

I did a quick google search and didn't see this posted per say here. Anyone use this back in 2003?

search for Zeograd's Lair if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I found an original Turboduo vendor, who now lists on Amazon some of his remaining stock. I was curious if anyone would like some questions answered or anything like that, from someone who was in the busy back then? I know it's interesting at times to see how the market was at the time, how vendors received items, kickbacks for selling items, or how they were notified once the Turbografx/Turboduo was laid to rest.

I was planning on fielding some of my own, but you guys have had your consoles longer then me.

He was a direct seller of Turbografx and Turboduo consoles, games, etc. in the 80s and 90s, before the internet and places like Amazon and Gamestop took a heavy hold on the gaming scene.

Update: I never heard back, I sent multiple emails and through Amazon as well. He doesn't seem to be selling anymore either. I thought this would be interesting or at least informative, but ended as an epic failure. The guy/gal (it was a couple) seemed to be interested in doing it.
Thank you,

First: I wish someone had the ability to translate Xak I and II, then III might make more sense to me.

I'm looking for information related to how this game plays and possibly a walkthrough. I've been looking over the internet and found guides for the original MSX  titles, etc. but not Xak 3.

Does anyone know of anything, or at least some information. I'm playing through it know. It's making me want to try to translate Xak I & II. It's weird starting a game and being level 50....

Thanks

Just to clarify,

On my Duo-r, I will need to Ground the 29 pin on the HuC6280 out? Or is there something else someone else has found out to wouldn't have me killing my machine in the future when the mod might be removed.

The lines are for my benefit, ignore them.

So, I find it very annoying that I have to turn off my DUO-R, remove the Bank Card and then turn it back on to accept CD Games... I can't just leave the Tennokoe Bank cart in there.

I don't see anyway around this. So, I thought I would actually wire in the bank card into the system and have a button on the inside of the hu card slot.

Button Off - Play Hucard/Arcade Duo/Cd Games
Button On - Open and run Tennokoe Bank.

I'm thinking of making the Tennokoe Bank Card interchangeable, so there's no direct wiring.

Am I nuts? Or does anyone else find this annoying?

I'm looking to region mod it and some other little changes.

Thanks.

Keith Courage said this might be a better place.

I've translated NGPC, NES, HUCARD, and VB games. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about how to extract the PC Engine CD or Turbo CD games, I'd like to translate menus/items/controls for certain games and hope that someone in the future could do the dialogue. Anyone use a good tile editor? I've been using Tile Layer Pro set to Genesis to see Hucard text.

Looking at the games, it seems a lot of them should be 16x16 tiles.

https://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/10m3-04206.php

The other monoprice site doesn't have stock until 12/2013. I thought I'd share. I picked up three. If anyone is interested.

Disregard this, please delete the post...

I ordered with them saying "in stock" and I just got a message saying they were not in stock and to wait 2-3 days...

So, I think some might think me daff, but I think it would be pretty interesting to do it. Does anyone have a spare controller I could experiment on?

My theory is to drill a hole through the board for the stick and then rewire the joystick to the right pads, as we know with any arcade stick that L=R and vice versa and U=D and vice versa.

Clickely Clickely.

Thoughts?

I finally got the PC Engine Duo-R playing CD's without issues. The games are incredible and the controller is great. I'm thoroughly impressed. You guys were right, the only thing that ruined NEC was NEC. This could have been great! (yes, I know it was great in Japan until the PC-FX).

Thanks again for this great community.

Update: So, I finally got my pc engine power adapter in the mail and after some thorough cleaning of the motherboard the little bastard started up.

Now, I just need a controller to test the CD portion, as I've read you need to hit run to start it up.
Has anyone ever had cut on the PCB board of a Duo-R near the controller port? On the solder side there's this nick, I'm waiting for the controller to show up so I can test the port.

I received this unit used, telling it it worked. The only issue is that I received 13 games and the console, but no cables, or controllers.

It arrived today, and I tested the unit with a Mega Drive 2 Adapter, no dice. I took it apart and realized that the DIN port and Power socket were broken loose in their solder sockets. I resoldered both correctly.

I powered it on... and nothing. Now, there are three points on this power socket, two of the ports are connected with solder, I wanted to make sure that these shouldn't be separated some how.

I checked the fuse and it seems fine, no breakage.

My goal next is to replace the two 7805 power regulators (I've had to replace these in Sega Nomads in the past) and I purchased cables and power supplies from GameDoctorHK as well. Anyone have advice where to look after this? I left my multi-meter on, so the battery dead. I'll have to pick up a 9v tomorrow.

Have a good night.

I've got a few projects under my belt, but it's always nice to work on something new and take a break from another project. I'm looking to do some PC Engine and Wonderswan translating/hacking, are there any titles anyone is interested in that haven't been done yet?

My current projects are:

Virtual Fishing - Virtual Boy
Virtual Lab - Virtual Boy
Biomotor Unitron 2 - Neo Geo Pocket Color
Ogre Battle - Neo Geo Pocket Color
Cool Cool Jam - Neo Geo Pocket Color

about 6-10 NES titles (almost all are about 90% done, waiting for title screen hacking).

Hello,

Some may know me from the neo geo forums or other various forums. I became interested in TG16 and PC engine after playing soldier blade. What a solid game, gotta love those green power ups. I do a lot of neo geo pocket and NES translations, so I'd be interested in doing the same for TG16 down the line.

I'm still trying to find a cheaper pc engine duo to purchase, no luck. They usually go for over 150.

Take it easy.
